Dickson Realty’s April 2017 Newsletter As expected, this time of year does not bring forth many buyers, which is more than understandable with the extreme winter conditions that we’ve experienced this particular year. However, with spring emerging, flowers starting to bloom, and longer, sun-filled days, Sellers and Buyers are looking at the possibility of making changes. We recommend taking positive steps before we experience the additional rate hikes promised for this year.

As Rates Go Up, Affordability Goes Down Interest rates remain historically low at this time, however this will not always be the case. After raising its benchmark interest rate on March 15th, the Federal Reserve is expected to increase interest rates twice more this calendar year. As a result, when rates go up, affordability goes down. This is because higher interest rates ultimately mean higher costs. Higher costs make the process of getting pre-qualified more difficult, due to the fact that borrowers will have to come in with more money. While rates remain low, now is an excellent time to consider making a purchase or refinancing your home. The process of getting pre-qualified is seamless and easy and can give you a better idea of your buying power. Additionally, refinancing at this time can save you money by locking in at lower rate before rates go up.
