Dickson Realty’s March 2017 Newsletter Looking Beyond the Interest Rate When people consider refinancing their mortgage, the first thing they think about is the rate. Obtaining a lower interest rate is no doubt extremely beneficial to homeowners as it can save them money over the life of their loan. Additionally, maintaining stability rests on the forefront of many primary homeowner’s minds. For homeowners, every situation is unique. Adjustable-rate mortgages are an excellent option in many situations. However, in other cases, where homeowners are seeking stability with rates, a fixed-rate mortgage may be a better option. Nonetheless, the benefits of refinancing don’t end there. Think, equity. There are a variety of ways to build equity in your home. You can establish equity by putting more money down, paying your mortgage on time and in full and making additional payments toward reducing your principal. The housing market can also play a huge factor in raising the value of your home. Once you have established equity, you have the option of cashing out and using that money to your advantage. Do you have repairs or additions you want to tackle? Debt you need to pay off? Children you want to send to college? Home equity can make it all possible.
