TRANSPARENCY IN ARCHITECTURE fifth year thesis project The primary issue is that there is very few instances for constituents to feel represented or relate to civic buildings around them. Giving the community the opportunity to see themselves and their culture within their city halls is important. Looking at the site conditions is important, as well as demographic and city’s population. Understanding the user will give me insight into how to approach the project in a way that constituents will want to participate in. Creating spaces that allow for participation will give the community the space to engage in not only democratic acts but in community events.
EMPOWERMENT THROUGH DEMOCRACY
GARNETT NEST fourth year affordable housing This Residential + Mixed-Use Project will promote its community through public gathering spaces and enrichment programs. Providing an inclusive and diverse neighborhood that will be supported by the retail and amenity spaces. Sustainable measures will be implemented through the projects’ materiality, optimization of solar orientation, water collection system and energy harnessing features.

THE COLLECTIVE OFFICE third year the contemporary workplace The Collective Office is inspired by Jennifer Bonner’s ‘Office Stack’, MVRDV’s Ilot Caravane and MVRDV’s Radio Tower and Hotel. Each of these prominent project have made become a hybrid into these new collaborative space that allows professionals to inhabit a space that can quickly immerse into other spaces. Office Stack inspired the cut-outs that are apparent throughout the facades along with the differentiation of each program’s facade. Ilot Caravane inspired the way the spaces interacted with one another and the overall presentation of the Collective Office. The Radio Tower and Hotel allowed the stackable office spaces and programs throughout the project and also enhanced the cluster of spaces in addition to the differentiated facades. The Collective Office showcases an integrated and new work environment that involves fun facades and friendly colors to create a diverse and entertaining environment.

Energy In addition to passive solar design, the building is equipped with solar shading on the south elevation in order to reduce the need for air conditioning. Photovoltaic film is also located on the rooftop shading louvers in order to serve the building’s energy demands.

RACCOON CREEK ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER third year environmental center
Raccoon Creek Environmental Center provides a space for members of the community to gather and learn about their local environment through the use of classrooms, labs and exhibition spaces. Raccoon Creek embraces the idea of deception through its created burrowed spaces. As you descend into the building, they are illuminated by light from the light shaft and create a stark contrast to their environment.
