Undergraduate Portfolio

STRUCTURE OF THE ORDINARY

After being raised in primarilt suburban neighborhoods, we are tasked with bringing attractive aspects of living in a neighborhood to family driven alternatives to a house on the ground.

CONSTRUCTING GEOMETRY

Create discernible objects through cultivation of card stock models of derived from the para-line drawings drafted in the previous project.

ASIA SOCIETY ATLANTA

Taking as our inspiration the ancient definition of art as the mirror of nature, we propose a studio centered on the art museum as a site for research into the active and passive mechanical systems that properly support the storage, display, and experience of varied works of art.

DRAWING GEOMETRY

Construct a series of paraline drawings using a set of three projections including top, front, and side elevations for six different geometric objects.

GOTHIC CONFIGURING

After thorough examination of the historic gothic window tracery and possible synthesis, a design proposal will be made to satisfy the needs of a fashion-driven design research academy located in San Francisco.

URBAN INTERACTION

Embark on a neighborhood district site in Atlanta, GA and design two dwellings for two different designers/makers while adhering to the guidelines of the residential subarea of Cabbagetown.

BODY, SITE, PROGRAM, AND STRUCTURE

Design a small pavillion as a communal space and create a narrative around the design that requires accomodation for up to five individuals standing, sitting, and an overnight experience for sleeping.

CAMPUS BUS STOP

Design a prototype bus stop/shelter for the STINGER service on the Georgia Tech campus. The design should provide shelter, shade and seating for waiting passengers, during the day and at night.

MEDIA AND MODELING II

Using Grashopper Interface, Components, and other Parameters, create architectural structures such as folded roofs and 2D attractors.

PERSONAL PHOTOGRAPHY

A collection of work that illustrates who I am as a photographer in order to take one of my passions a step further and on full display. This is a curation of portraits, landscape, and collage work that I have done in the past few years.

STRUCTURE OF THE ORDINARY

After being raised in primarilt suburban neighborhoods, we are tasked with bringing attractive aspects of living in a neighborhood to family driven alternatives to a house on the ground. Looking through strong precedents pertaining to communal circulation, lighting and views, and the porch, we use these architectural concepts as tools to construct an efficient apartment building housing up to 200 families.

From systems to tectonic considerations, we aim to answer the question “How can we design attractive family housing in the city?” through a logical synthesis from the unit out.

ASIA SOCIETY ATLANTA

Taking as our inspiration the ancient definition of art as the mirror of nature, we propose a studio centered on the art museum as a site for research into the active and passive mechanical systems that properly support the storage, display, and experience of varied works of art. The art museum brief remains an excellent design research tool offering three distinct but related arenas for exploration:

- Aesthetic issues involved in a building type to experience visual and performance art.

- Technical issues in the marriage of art and science.

- Social/urban issues in the expectation that museums are both exemplary and didactic in their address to a broad public

GOTHIC CONFIGURING

GOTHIC CONFIGURING

Of all architectural styles the Gothic is probably the one that is most successful in bridging the divide between structure and ornament. Where classical architecture first creates an abstract structure to then decorate it locally with curved scrolls, garlands and volutes, the Gothic uses thin elements (“ribs”) which can bend and flex to create a large variety of figures that combine into enormously complex webbed vaults, bundled columns or rose windows. The idea is not to develop a Neoneo-gothic to design our projects; we will slowly move away from the Gothic as a historical style to create our own sets of configurations and spatial organization. For our research we will be concentrating on window tracery (lancet windows and rose windows) of the English Decorated and the French Flamboyant styles.

Such an academy is not a typical school, and would harbor not only post-graduate design students but also practioners that have decided to leave their practice behind, either temporarily or for good, to deepen their research into design. The DRA is a platform for experiment, for learning as well as unlearning. Such an academy would not house a fixed staff; it would itself function as a harbor, where designers and teachers would meet to do high-end research for short or long periods, and seek discussion, study and renewal.

URBAN INTERACTION

After thorough examination of the district site and its guidelines, a design proposal will be made to satisfy the needs of two individual artists on a 3500 sq. ft. lot. The shotgun and cottage types are being prioritized, but an array of the vernacular types studied are applicable and can be used in combination. This proposal shall consist of client needs, technical drawings, and site analysis and diagrams.

BODY, SITE, PROGRAM, STRUCTURE

Using the same site location given in Project 2, the objective here is to design a small pavilion as a communal space and create a narrative around the design. The pavilion requires accommodation for up to five individuals standing, sitting, and sleeping including an overnight experience. The area must not exceed 85 sq. ft. and cannot be longer than 15ft in any dimension. After developing the deliverables for this project, not only my craft in drawings and models has improved but my ability to persevere through trial and error has as well.
