Editorial

With the of publishing of “Al-Moosa Mission” as one of the major media projects aiming to enrich the health education level in the region, the Editorial Management is pleased to represent the editorial of the 8th issue of our Mission. Our confidence has increased in the social role we present via the attention His Highness Prince Bader Bin Jalawi, Al-HasaGovernor has paid to that role. His Highness, during our visit to his office has encouraged and directed us to keep publishing the Mission, for the important information it presents with a professional and distinguished publication which attracts the readers. We welcomed the year 2012 with a number of activities, forums, and local and international conferences which the hospital takes part in to continue its strategies and aims towards the social responsibility. We’ve organized a forum about work-related injuries and how to deal with them in collaboration with Al-HasaChamber of commerce thattargeted Human Resources managers, field supervisors and workers to enhance their health education regarding the treatment of work-related injuries medically and administratively. The attendance and organization were on the highest level and were honored by the presence of the deputy governor Mr. Khaled Bin Abdul Aziz Al Barak. During the coming months the activities continue whereas we take part in the organization of two international conferences. The first one is about breast cancer targeting to increase the number of the health educators in this subject and will be in Al-Hasa from the 10th to 15th of March. In cooperation with The ministry of health, King Feisal University .a number of prominent

professors and lecturers from the Kingdom, the Gulf and the United States of America will present in this conference to prepare the highest possible number of educated women in the field of breast cancer which has spread among women and girls in the Eastern Province. Additionally, the hospital organizes the international conference for Trauma and accidents in the middle of May, 2012 in Al-Hasa Intercontinental Hotel. This conference aims to introduce the latest methods in treating the injuries of the accidents and to improve the awareness among the health practitioners in the emergencies and accidents departments. A number of organizations will take part in this conference such as the Directorate of Health Affairs, Al-Hasa Chamber of Commerce whereas the presence of a number of lecturers from Germany, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan was confirmed in addition to a number of Arabian Gulf Countries and several speakers from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We are expecting a visit by the Joint Commission international (JCI) in a survey aiming to renew the hospital accreditation which is usually given every three years. In fact, this is the second time the hospital is experiencing this big challenge as any hospital has to meet around one thousand criteria of quality elements which at the end will be reflecting in the quality of care and patient safety . We, the editorial management team, hope the readers find this issue very helpful, useful and enjoyable by finding the topics they really seek as we try to provide the topics that reflect the message of Al-Moosa Mission to meet their needs and interests. I invite everybody not to hesitate to contact us in case there are any suggestions through the magazine’s e-mail: Magazine@almoosahospital.com.sa Malek Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Moosa CEO

How to get along with your new co-workers?

“I don’t know how to get along with people in the new job”, when joining a new job, some complain not being able to communicate with the new co-workers or even don’t know how to be friendly with them.. It sometimes takes months to adapt with the new situation, and if he/ she isn’t able to socialize with them, it could be the main reason for leaving the work.

Here are some steps to help you solve this problem: 1. “Always keep your promise no matter whatever it costs, for you can’t build up a friendship once confidence is lost” 2. Be gentle, do you think others may accept you if you don’t. Try to smile all the time and be quiet. Take it easy when you have a conversation with one of your colleagues. 3. Be friendly, but don’t be too friendly, for some people may try to take advantages of you. 4. Be calm, try to have some self-confidence. If you look so nervous and you can’t be quiet, you won’t probably able to have new friends, and it will show you just want to make friends, so try to show as if you have many friends and that you are so selective in choosing your new ones. When you want to start and your friends share and avoid differences. In fact, both of you have different viewpoints, but don’t focus on them at the beginning of your friendship. 8. Be a good listener, and pay great attention to what they say. Look directly at their eyes showing you are interested in what they say. Try to use body gestures like facial expression to show enthusiasm, and again be a good listener, for everybody likes to be listened to. 9. Be yourself in all your expressions, and select your words. Don’t adopt an idea you aren’t convinced with. People

a conversation, try to find good reasons for doing so; otherwise, they will feel you just exaggerate in the way you are attracted to them. 5. Don’t be shy, being shy won’t help you. Simply, try to know what others are interested in. Only at this time, you can start an effective conversation: start by greeting them, introduce yourself, and if they know you, just get to the point directly. For example, talk to them about their interests such as sports, music, movies…etc. 6. Be careful during your first conversation. In other words, don’t try to interfere yourself in private issues such as their political tendency, their relationships, or even the religious matters, and remember the first impression lasts. 7. Always think about what you always like to listen to the opinions they agree with, but this doesn’t mean you have to agree with all what they say because this will let them feel you are a deceiver and indirect. Be yourself and accept others as much as you can, and remember to have your own personality and flexibility. 10. Improve your relationship with your friends. For example, don’t come to the point that makes others feel bored when talking to you and this probably happens when you keep repeating what you said before. Always show that you pay attention to them through asking them friendly questions such as: “What were you doing?” This makes them feel happy showing that you care. 11. Try to be so sociable by inviting your friends to hang out and going to a mall or a café shop to have a drink. Having a nice time with your friends helps in improving your friendship. It would be nice to improve your network by introducing your new friends to your old ones. 12. If you failed to have a good friendship, don’t stop and start to look for another one. Later one, you’ll have the best friends you really seek. Finally, don’t be in hurry: friendships aren’t built overnight.

News around the World The death of Whitney Houston: «Nobody makes me do anything I don›t want to do. So the bigger devil is me, I am either my best friend or my worst enemy.» These words were said by Whitney Houston.

Whitney Houston, Pop Superstar, Dies at 48 Whitney Houston, the multimillion-selling singer who emerged in the 1980s as one of her generation’s greatest R & B voices, only to deteriorate through years of cocaine use and an abusive marriage, died on Saturday in Beverly Hills, Calif. She was 48. Her death came as the music industry descended on Los Angeles for the annual celebration of the Grammy Awards, and Ms. Houston was — for all her difficulties over the years — one of its queens. She was staying at the Beverly Hilton hotel on Saturday to attend a pre-Grammy party being hosted by Clive Davis, 10

the founder of Arista Records, who had been her pop mentor. Ms. Houston was found in her room at 3:55 p.m., and paramedics spent close to 20 minutes trying to revive her, the authorities said. There was no immediate word on the cause of her death, but the authorities said there were no signs of foul play.

The 5 Dumbest Things You Can Do if You Have too Much Debt The five strategies you may want to avoid: The first piece of advice from experts in the field is to be sure you don›t make your situation worse by making common mistakes. In particular try to avoid: 1. Paying only the minimum payment on your debt, as this will result in the amount you owe actually growing, and your problems will only become worse. 2. Relying on friends and family, as this can damage relationships with the most important people in your life. 3. Unscrupulous credit counselors that demand cash upfront or high fees for help they promise, but don›t deliver. 4. Using new high-interest

loans to pay off lower interest rate loans. It may be easier to just have one payment. but it will actually increase the amount you have to pay back. 5. Declaring bankruptcy. This can have permanent and severe consequences on your financial future. Avoid it if you can, especially when debt settlement may work for you.

Facebook and the big IPO letdown Facebook’s IPO has raised hopes in Silicon Valley that the tech industry’s days of wine and roses will soon be back with hundreds of start-ups going public. Even President Obama seems excited. He recently proposed an “IPO on-ramp” to help young, smaller companies go public. Sadly, everyone is going to be disappointed. We are not going to see the

flood of IPOs that happened during the late 90’s. The rules of the game have changed. The infrastructure to facilitate IPOs is no longer there, and the regulatory environment has changed. Joe Grundfest, a professor and a colleague at Stanford Law School, outlines four reasons why the path to the IPO has become so steep for aspiring companies. First, regulatory costs for companies that aspire to go public have increased substantially. Second, the financial markets have changed Third, the analyst sector, which does the intense, company-specific grunt work for IPOs, has been decimated. Fourth, many of the largest and most successful sectors display winner-take-all characteristics early in their evolution.

LORYLEN:I have an experience more than 18 years How do you measure the improvements of the hospital? Improvements in the hospital can be measured by the increase in the number of patients satisfied by the services delivered to them. We have updated machines and equipments as well as highly qualified staff taking care of their needs. What is the chance of the hospital to achieve the second renewing of “ JCI” ? We have a very good chance in passing the reaccreditation for the JCIA. The hardwork, dedication, cooperation and teamwork among the staff of AMGH will bring success in passing this reaccreditation. We passed it before and I am sure we can do it again.

TOP 5

The Top 5 Must-Have Professional Development Books , If you re just starting to build your professional development library, the following five books are essentials. These are considered the «classics». They are the most widely referenced in business because they offer timeless advice in an engaging way. Check out this list : What Color is Your Parachute? By Richard Nelson Bolles whether you›re just entering the workforce or exploring your career options later in life. It is the «best selling job-hunting book in the world» for a reason. The useful information inspires readers to honestly evaluate their strengths and goals, establish a plan, and execute that plan with care and efficiency. A new version is released every year, so be sure to get the most up-to-date copy. However, even an older edition will be useful. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, By Stephen R. Covey This isn›t a «quick read» kind of book. I recommend that anyone who is serious about personal and professional development study the lessons here carefully. The habits presented here are thought provoking and truly life changing. Stephen Covey does an amazing job of inspiring and teaching the reader. The information is profound, building on principles of psychology, spirituality and philosophy so be prepared: this is an intense read. Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity, By David Allen Often referred to as GTD, the organizational system presented in this book has gained something of a cult-following in recent years. Originally created for CEOs, the system outlines how to effectively manage an overwhelming workload. The book seems 14

Al Moosa Mission

to overcomplicate the process so don›t get too wrapped up in it. I recommend reading it once through and just take notes of things that hit home. Take the parts that are useful and implement them. Don›t worry about following every step precisely, unless you really want that kind of firm structure. If you really get into the GTD-thing, you›ll find plenty of blogs and websites dedicated to discussing techniques for effectively implementing it. How to Win Friends and Influence People, By Dale Carnegie This book is a sort of «Human Relations 101.» It›s broken down into short sections that explain a principle and offer practical examples. This classic provides an in-depth analysis of human behavior and our common characteristics. It outlines strategies that will help anyone become more influential, a better leader, more persuasive, and yes, even more likeable. It›s a fascinating read and one that really motivates the reader to explore the depths of human psychology. It›s a must read for every human being. Now, Discover Your Strengths, By Marcus Buckingham and Donald O. Clifton This book is a must for anyone who supervises others. It revolves around the central concept that it is more effective to manage strengths than weaknesses. By focusing on the positive in people, you bring out more of it. Many managers attempt to correct weaknesses, which only prevents failure. This book teaches us that true motivation (and excellence) comes from recognizing and developing strengths. It describes 34 different types of strengths a person can have. It›s very interesting to do some self-analysis and also, use this framework to evaluate those around you. The coolest part about this book is that it includes a code for taking an online web assessment of your personal strengths. Note: don›t buy the book used as you›ll need a special code on the cover that can only be used once. ‫رسالة الموسى‬
