LA JORNADA MEXICO THE ENERGY INTERFERENCE OF THE U.S.
The editorial focuses on the meeting between Mexican president, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the U.S. envoy for climate change, and businessmen from that country to discuss an energy reform local project. It explains that the American embassy indicated that “representatives from the White House ‘reiterated the important concerns that the U.S. has about changes in the Mexican energy policy. … that constitutional amendments pose possible violations to the Canada- United States and Mexico Agreement, which ‘is risking out millions of dollars in potential investment in Mexico.’ … the former secretary of State … claimed an agreement existed whereby his nation would keep a team in Mexico ‘in order to make sure that reform (electricity) has the capacity to move forward.’” Lopez Obrador, refuted this and “restated that cannot be accepted, whether it comes from the United States or any other country.” El editorial se refiere a la reunión entre el presidente mexicano, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, el enviado especial de EE. UU. para el cambio climático, y empresarios de ese país sobre un proyecto local de reforma energética. Recuerda que la embajada americana indicó que “los representantes de la Casa Blanca ‘reiteraron las importantes preocupaciones que EU ha planteado sobre los cambios en la política energética’ mexicana. (…) que las modificaciones constitucionales implican posibles violaciones al Tratado entre México, Estados Unidos y Canadá, lo cual ‘pone en riesgo miles de millones de dólares de inversión potencial en México’. (…) el ex secretario de Estado (…) aseguró la existencia de un acuerdo por el cual su nación mantendría un equipo en México ‘para tratar de asegurarnos de que todo lo que surja del esfuerzo de reforma (eléctrica) refleje la mejor capacidad para seguir adelante’”. Lo desmintió el López Obrador, quien “reiteró que eso no se puede aceptar, venga de Estados Unidos o de cualquier otro país”.
CLARÍN ARGENTINA ‘FOGGY WAR AND PEACE’
Journalist John Carlin commented “Some questions I was asked are still running around in my head … . Which parallelisms I saw between the war in Ukraine and the Falklands War? (…). First, presidents who started hostilities, Leopoldo Galtieri and Vladimir Putin: both assassins. To be fair, Putin, with his several wars separated, has less blood in his hands (...). Enemies of democracy, Putin y Galtieri killed to defend their dictatorships, reason for which they set o their military adventures. In the case of Galtieri, the move was by the book. The military junta was unstable, and the last card was to appeal to patriotic populism. Putin did not fear losing power, but he saw a threat in the democratic debauchery of neighbor Ukraine: a bad example for his Russian subjects … . Once the two wars initiated, the truth was and still is being beaten. In Argentina, in 1982, as it is in Russia today, the regime imposed controls to the media.” El periodista John Carlin comentó que “le sigo dando vueltas a una pregunta que me hicieron (…). ¿Qué paralelismos veía entre la guerra de Ucrania y la guerra de las Malvinas? (…). Primero, los presidentes que iniciaron las hostilidades, Leopoldo Galtieri y Vladímir Putin: ambos asesinos. Para ser justos con Putin, que cuesta, sus varias guerras aparte tiene menos sangre en las manos (...). Enemigos de la democracia, Putin y Galtieri mataron para defender sus dictaduras, el mismo motivo por el que se lanzaron a sus aventuras militares. En el caso de Galtieri la jugada fue de manual. La junta militar tambaleaba y la última carta que le quedaba era apelar al populismo patrio. Putin no temía perder el poder pero veía una amenaza en el creciente libertinaje democrático de la vecina Ucrania: mal ejemplo para sus súbditos rusos (…). Iniciadas las dos guerras, la verdad siguió y sigue siendo apaleada. En Argentina en 1982, como en Rusia hoy, el régimen impuso controles a los medios”.
O GLOBO BRAZIL ‘GOOD-BYE, PUTIN!’
Commenter Jose Eduardo Agualusa said “American intelligence believe that Vladimir Putin has been deceived by his ministers, consultants and generals on … the military consequences in Ukraine and the damages caused by the economic sanctions. Out of fear of making the dictator angry, the consultants would be hiding the real number of casualties and injured, and other key information … , at the war and at the diplomatic level.” He remembered the case of Antonio Oliveira Salazar, a Portuguese dictator, replaced due to a stroke, but nobody “had the courage to tell him that he had been removed from power. The ministers kept having meetings with the dictator, pretending to take notes and making up an outside reality. … I can picture Vladimir Putin, taking walks in the heavy loneliness of his palaces, while the ministers and generals rush in the shadows, printing fake newspapers, making documentaries about imaginary victories … . Vladimir Putin will wake up in the ruins of a country destroyed by his ambition and his blindness.”
El comentarista José Eduardo Agualusa planteó que “los servicios de inteligencia estadounidenses creen que Vladimir Putin ha sido engañado por sus ministros, asesores y generales en (…) las consecuencias militares en Ucrania y a los daños de las sanciones económicas. Por miedo a enfadar al dictador, los asesores le estarían ocultando las cifras reales de muertos y heridos, y otros datos clave (…), tanto a nivel bélico como diplomático”. Recordó el caso de António Oliveira Salazar, dictador portugués, sustituido por un derrame cerebral, pero nadie “tuvo el valor de decirle que había sido destituido del poder. Los ministros siguieron reuniéndose con el dictador, fingiendo tomar notas e inventando una realidad exterior. (…) Me imagino a Vladimir Putin, paseando en la pesada soledad de sus palacios, mientras los ministros y los generales se afanan en las sombras, imprimiendo periódicos falsos, produciendo documentales de victorias imaginarias (…). Vladimir Putin despertará en las ruinas de un país destruido por su ambición y su ceguera”.
EL ESPECTADOR COLOMBIA A FOREWARNED TRAGEDY
In his column, Juan David Ochoa wrote “Henry Kissinger … had said seven years ago, when NATO started to dangerously get closer to Eastern Europe, that Ukraine should not join to the organization due to its catastrophic e ect … . There they are, covered by the dust of destruction, and disoriented under the unpredictable advance of the war (…). Joe Biden has had nothing left but to escalate the war speech as the intensification of the conflict has taken over, and due to his misguided reaction sending more weapons and gunpowder to that fire, he now has no other option than being progressively involved. But his dramatic position in history and Ukraine’s humanitarian catastrophe could have been avoided if NATO’s military high command had understood that the neutral position of Ukraine was necessary for the security of the world.” En su columna, Juan David Ochoa manifestó que “Henry Kissinger (…) había dicho siete años atrás, cuando la OTAN empezaba a acercarse peligrosamente al Este de Europa, que Ucrania no debía unirse a la organización por los efectos catastróficos (…). Pero allí están, sumidos en el polvo de la destrucción y desorientados ante el impredecible avance de la guerra (…). A Joe Biden no le ha quedado más que escalar el lenguaje bélico ante el recrudecimiento de los acontecimientos absorbentes de un conflicto, y ha tenido que reaccionar torpemente enviando más armas y más pólvora al incendio, ahora que no tiene otra opción ajena al involucramiento progresivo. Pero su posición dramática en la historia y la catástrofe humanitaria de Ucrania pudieron haberse evitado si la OTAN hubiera entendido desde su cúpula militar de altas esferas que la posición neutral de Ucrania era una necesidad para la seguridad mundial”.
