Duration: 11’00’’ Notes for Performance Text The Long Nights Dawn Ich grüße alle mein Freunde! Mögen sie die Morgenröte noch sehen nach der langen Nacht. Ich, allzu Ungeduldiger, gehe ihnen voraus.
I salute all my friends! May it be granted them yet to see the dawn after the long night! I, all too impatient, go on before
By Stefan Zweig Pronunciation T: as in time S: as in sink K: as in kill J: as in yes Always stress the phonemes, as through there were an accent on each of them. Flute Diagram-fingering Flute Chart
Bass Flute Chart

Mixture of normal and breathy sound
Key-Click. Glissandi There are two positions which the Glissando Headjoint can be positioned. The first is when Glissando Headjoint is all the way in, towards the body of the flute it is in “home base” (the flute is in normal flute tuning). The second is when the Glissando Headjoint is extended outwards to the “Out” position. These two are indicated by an I and o as shown below.
Fingered B pitch with Glissando Headjoint extended to notated G pitch.
Downwards Glissando “In”: Glissando Headjoint in Home Position to “Out”: Glissando Headjoint extended to produce notated pitch
Upwards Glissando Glissando Headjoint pulled out to notated pitch Glissando Headjoint pushed in to home position
The Long Nights Dawn was written for Bill Dowdall, (who gave the first performance in the Lutheran Hall, Dublin on February 26th 2018 ) as part of an Irish Composers Collective concert.
