CAMPUS SAFETY TIPS

7. Don't overshare on social media.

8. Watch out for phishing scams.

Adhere to all Title IX policies and know reporting protocols

It's everyone's responsibility to keep college campuses and communities safe, no matter who you are. Title IX of Educational Amendments Act of 1972 requires gender equality for males and females in every educational institution receiving federal funding. Fundamental to this goal is the prevention of sexual harassment and assault.

Follow guidelines set forth in the Student Handbook. These handbooks have a wealth of information regarding how to navigate student life. They also provide valuable guidelines, rules, and regulations that help keep students safe on campus.

Employee and Student Badges/Photo ID required

To ensure the safety and security of all individuals on ATC campus and site, all students and employees (full-time and part-time) are required to obtain and wear an updated ATC issued identification badge or photo ID while on campus, and it must be visible at all times. Effective August 2023, all guests will be required to wear a visitors' badge and/or sign-in while on campus.

Parking lots

Familiarize yourself with the parking lot locations and corresponding parking lot numbers. Also, ensure that you are parking in the appropriate parking spacing (faculty/staff, student, visitor) and have a current decal.

While driving on campus control your speed, be mindful of weather conditions, watch for pedestrians, and do not use cellphones.

STAY VIGILANT!

A new chapter begins for aspiring radiologic technicians at Albany Technical College (ATC) as they celebrate the opening of their state-of-the-art Radiologic Technology Lab. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony took place in February. The renovated facility stands as a testament to the college's commitment to excellence and innovation.

Equipped with two new imaging rooms—one hosting the cutting-edge GE Tempo Radiography unit and the other the multifaceted GE Precision 180—the lab ensures students receive hands-on experience with the latest in medical imaging technology. Alongside these are four brand-new Dell computers installed with EvoView PACS software and a pair of interactive flat-panel displays, enriching the learning process through digital radiographic imaging.

With a total investment surpassing $1.3 million, including over half a million for the lab's renovation alone, ATC's endeavor signals a significant leap forward in radiologic education.

THRIVING TOGETHER: PRIORITIZING STUDENT WELLNESS AT ATC

At ATC, we understand that the well-being of our students is crucial for their overall success. That's why we're all about wellness – actively practicing healthy habits daily to become the best version of ourselves, both physically and mentally. Our ultimate goal is not just to survive but to thrive!

Introducing the Student Wellness: M.A.P.P (Mental, Academic & Physical Preparedness) Grant, a five-year initiative at ATC, aimed at promoting wellness at our predominately black institution. We wasted no time in implementing a range of services and activities to support our students' well-being. Let's take a look at some of the fantastic projects we have going on:

1. Wellness Wednesday Newsletter: Every week, our students, faculty, and staff receive a valuable newsletter filled with tips on self-care, stress management, and improving sleep quality – essential aspects of wellness.

2. Yoga on the Yard: Get ready to unwind with our rejuvenating yoga classes, where we not only practice yoga but also learn meditation and deep breathing exercises for a calmer mind and body.

3. Spring/Fall into Fitness: An exciting event that takes place in both spring and fall, challenging our students to walk a specific number of miles within a set timeframe to win fantastic prizes. It's all about staying active and having fun!

4. TutorME: Struggling with your studies? No problem! With TutorME, our new tutoring platform, you can get help from a virtual tutor 24/7, along with some valuable study tips to boost your academic performance.

5. BHS Student Assistance Program: We care about every aspect of your well-being. Through this program, you can connect with counselors virtually, and you'll even have access to free legal and financial counseling.

6. Local Counseling Agency: For those who prefer face-to-face counseling, we've got you covered. We partner with a local counseling agency to ensure you get the support you need, in the way that suits you best.

These are just a few of the efforts we're making to address wellness both inside and outside the classroom. But wait, there's more! Mark your calendars for September 20th as we're hosting our very first Wellness Fair from 9 am to 11 am at the Kirkland Conference Center on campus. The ATC Wellness Fair aims to educate and celebrate our ongoing commitment to integrating physical, mental, and academic wellness into college life.

Remember, wellness is a campus-wide effort, and we've teamed up with several groups on campus to ensure that whenever a student, faculty, or staff member needs support, the community knows just how to lend a helping hand.

Together, let's thrive and make ATC a place where well-being is at the heart of our journey!

ALBANY TECHNICAL COLLEGE ENGAGES WITH AREA SUPERINTENDENTS AND PRINCIPALS TO PROMOTE DUAL ENROLLMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Albany Technical College organized a luncheon meeting with area superintendents and principals to discuss the various opportunities and advantages of dual enrollment for high school students. The event was held in March and provided valuable insights into the programs and resources available to students in the Albany area.

The meeting highlighted two significant programs offered by Albany Tech: Accelerated Career (formerly Option B) and Dual Enrollment. Accelerated Career provides qualified students with a unique path to high school graduation by allowing them to simultaneously earn a high school diploma and a college associate degree, technical diploma, or two technical certificates of credit (TCCs) in a specific career pathway.

Dual Enrollment, on the other hand, enables eligible high school students to maximize their education and career training by taking courses that earn both college and high school credits concurrently.

The program covers tuition and fees for the first 30 credit hours, providing an affordable pathway for students to jump start their higher education journey.

The luncheon emphasized the importance of internships and apprenticeships in bridging the gap between education and employment. By participating in these programs, students gain valuable experience and enhance their career portfolios, while employers have the opportunity to develop a qualified applicant pool.

Albany Technical College remains committed to providing exceptional educational opportunities, empowering students to achieve their academic and career goals. Through initiatives like Dual Enrollment, internships, and apprenticeships, the college strives to prepare students for success in a rapidly evolving workforce, while also addressing the needs of the local community.

DUAL ENROLLMENT GRADUATES

Empowering High School Students to Achieve Academic Success and Accelerate Careers

One hundred twenty-four students in total were recognized as Dual Enrolled high school students who graduated with either an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, a diploma, or a Technical Certificate of Credit. Two separate ceremonies took place on Friday, April 14 honoring the Dual Enrollment graduates from ATC. The first ceremony was a pathway signing and included 14 students who earned an AAS degree. At the later ceremony, 110 students were recognized for successfully completing a diploma or a technical certificate of credit.

The Georgia Dual Enrollment program has proven to be one of the most well-regarded opportunities available to high school students. Witnessing the success of students transitioning to four-year universities to pursue advanced degrees has been a rewarding experience for all Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) colleges. The aim is to shine a spotlight on these students each academic year and inspire other graduates to further their education, whether it means transitioning from a diploma to a degree or progressing from a technical certificate of credit to a diploma.
