LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT Dear Friends: It has been quite an exciting year for Albany Technical College. Not only have we launched new programs and embraced new partnerships throughout the year, but we were proud that one of our students was chosen to be the year’s State Ambassador and represented both Albany Tech and the Technical College System of Georgia well. Some of the most significant accomplishments for 2013 included the launching of our Associate of Science in Nursing program. We were pleased to have officials from Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in attendance at our press conference in support of this new venture. Another notable accomplishment was the kickoff of our participation in the Achieving the Dream National Reform Network to our local community and supporters. We need their involvement as we conduct research to identify problem areas and close achievement gaps. Another hallmark for 2013 included signing articulation agreements with Southern Polytechnic State University, Valdosta State University, and Georgia Southwestern State University. Combined with the agreements we already hold with Albany State University, our students can choose to continue on and earn their bachelor’s degree at any university of their choice right here in Southwest Georgia. We officially broke ground on our “Wall of Giving,” which is one of the final pieces of our campus master plan. The Wall of Giving was originally birthed prior to a recent capital campaign as a way of recognizing donors. I am especially proud that the structure plans were designed by our drafting technology students and will be constructed by our masonry students. We are helping our students to earn skills in more ways than one. As we embark on 2014, I am sure that the year will hold many more great accomplishments for Albany Technical College. We have some of the best faculty, staff, and students in the country and I am proud to be part of our Titan Nation. Sincerely,

ATC LAUNCHED ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE IN NURSING PROGRAM
Albany Technical College held a special press conference on Thursday, January 31, 2013, at 10am, in the Practical Nursing lab in the Nathaniel Cross Health Care Technology building, to announce its new Associate of Science degree in nursing program with a LPN-RN Bridge, which began fall 2013. The program is designed to meet the needs of the community by complimenting Albany Tech’s existing nursing program.
ATC RECEIVED $5,000 GRANT FROM GEORGIA POWER Georgia Power awarded the Albany Tech Foundation a $5,000 grant from its Foundation on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 11am in the President’s Office at Albany Tech. Through the Georgia Power grant, Albany Tech will be able to provide scholarships/book stipends for students enrolled in one of the three ET programs. Providing students with the additional funding to purchase books will allow them the opportunity to complete all six of the courses required to obtain their AAS degree in any of the three ET programs. Courses include: Circuit Analysis I and II, Electronics Circuits I, Introduction to Engineering Technology, Statics, and Strength of Materials.

EMERSON ELECTRICAL FOUNDATION PRESENTED $500 SCHOLARSHIP DONATION TO ALBANY TECH FOUNDATION, INC.
On February 14, 2013, the Albany Tech Foundation accepted a $500 scholarship donation from the Emerson Electrical Foundation. The Emerson Electrical Foundation is made up of about a dozen former Albany Tech students and faculty members who studied electrical systems under former instructor Willie Emerson. They asked for the scholarship dollars to go to deserving industrial electrical, air conditioning technology or electrical construction and maintenance students. The scholarships will pay for tuition, fees, books and tools. Emerson taught at ATC from 1961 to the mid-1990s. He also founded the college’s first basketball team.

Albany Technical College announced the 2013 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) winner for the college at a Rotary Club meeting held at Doublegate Country Club in February. March ATC KICKED OFF ACHIEVING THE DREAM TO THE SOUTHWEST GEORGIA COMMUNITY Signifying a strong commitment to student success and completion, Albany Technical College was one of the 26 institutions selected this year, into the Achieving the Dream National Reform Network – the nation’s most comprehensive non-governmental reform network for student success in higher education history. On Wednesday, March 6, 2013, Albany Tech’s Achieving the Dream Core Team held a special session in the Kirkland Conference Center to ask for community stakeholders’ help in the initiative. As an Achieving the Dream Institution, Albany Technical College will continue to develop and implement research-based policies and practices based on quantitative and qualitative analyses of its institutional strengths, problem areas, and achievement gaps.
ALBANY TECH FOUNDATION’S ANNUAL ROAST On Friday evening, March 1, 2013, at 7pm, the Albany Technical College Foundation held their annual Roast in the Kirkland Conference Center on the college campus. This year, the College “roasted” co-owner, president and CEO of Flint River Services, Lem Griffin. A silent auction was also held in the Conference Center atrium beginning at 6pm. Lem Griffin is also a past chairman of the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital Board. He now serves as Chairman of the Phoebe Putney Health System Board of Directors. As a member

of the board of the Boy Scouts of America, Griffin has dedicated countless hours and financial resources to the Boy Scouts fund raiser events for many years. He also serves as the Salvation Army Board Chairman, as well as on the Boards of Security Bank, Flint River Water Council, and the Albany Tech Foundation, Inc. He and his wife, Linda Merritt Griffin, have two children and four grandchildren.

ATC SIGNED ARTICULATION AGREEMENT WITH SOUTHERN POLYTECHNIC STATE UNIVERSITY FOR THE OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
On Tuesday, March 5, 2013, Albany Technical College officially signed a new Operations Management program articulation agreement with Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) in the Executive Board Room of the Logistics Education Center of Albany Tech’s campus. Last fall, Albany Tech launched its new Operations Management program. The program

ATC GOAL WINNER NAMED AS STATE AMBASSADOR FOR TCSG FOR 2013 AAmir Greene, a telecommunications technology student from Albany Technical College, was named as the Technical College System of Georgia’s 2013 Student of the Year. TCSG Commissioner Ron Jackson announced the award during a banquet honoring the system’s top students and instructors at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel in Atlanta on April 25. Greene competed for the top student honor as part of the system’s annual GOAL (Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership) program, which recognizes the best students at each of the state’s 25 technical colleges and a Board of Regents college with a technical division. As the 2013 Student of the Year and state GOAL winner, Greene served as the TCSG’s student ambassador during a number of system and college functions throughout the year. In January, he spoke before the Georgia General Assembly and received a personal commendation from the Governor.

ATC PHARMACY TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM RECEIVED ASHP ACCREDITATION
Albany Technical College’s Pharmacy Technology program received accreditation by the American Society Health Systems Pharmacists (ASHP). This was the first time the program received this accreditation. ASHP is the leading national accrediting body specifically for Pharmacy Technician Training Programs. This accreditation provides instant credibility and a competitive advantage
over other programs and shows that the program has undergone a peer review process and offers a didactic, laboratory, and experiential training program to meet contemporary employment needs, which is the absolute highest in quality for the public’s safety. It also shows the program is committed to excellence.

ATC SIGNED TWO PATHWAYS PROGRAM AGREEMENTS WITH VALDOSTA STATE UNIVERSITY

Albany Technical College officially signed two Pathways Program agreements with Valdosta State University on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at 3pm in the Executive Board Room, Albany Tech Logistics Education Center Building. Through the Pathways Program agreements, students graduating with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in 22 selected programs from

ATC HELD FIRST ANNUAL MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY Albany Technical College held its first annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at 10am in the Kirkland Conference Center. In an effort to create a student awareness of why Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day are celebrated, Dr. Anthony O. Parker, President of Albany Tech, said this year marks the first of what he hopes will be an annual tradition for the college. Keynote speaker for the ceremony was Maj. Gen. Charles Hudson from the Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany. In 2011, Hudson came to Albany to take the helm following Maj. Gen. James Kessler. During his career, Hudson has done multiple deployments,
the most recent of which was a one-year stint in Afghanistan, which ended roughly two months before his arrival in Albany. Through his deployments, he has also participated in operations conducted in Grenada, Lebanon, the Arabian Gulf, East Timor and Iraq. Remarks were also given by Dr. Willie Adams, Retired OB-GYN and former Mayor of Albany. Adams served as the Mayor of Albany from 2004 to 2012. He has practiced medicine in Albany for nearly 25 years and remains actively involved in community and civic affairs.
ATC DRAFTING STUDENTS PRESENTED EXPANSION DESIGNS TO CHEHAW Students in the Drafting Technology program at Albany Technical College presented officials from The Parks at Chehaw expansion designs on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at 10am, in the drafting lab of the Center for Excellence in Technology building. Chehaw Zoo Director,

Kevin Hills, worked with Albany Tech drafting instructor, Chinelo Ochie, and her students to create a North American Expansion for the Park. Chehaw’s ultimate goal is to bring animals from different continents of the world to the zoo. In order to accomplish this, they
wanted to expand the zoo by building different habitats to house the different animals. The North American Expansion is the first of such designs to accomplish this. The theme given to Albany Tech students was to use an outline of the United States, which is the central part of
North America, as the layout and foundation for the design. Different areas of the map are designed to house different animals.

ATC PLANTED LIVE OAK FOR ARBOR DAY Albany Technical College, a Tree Campus USA, celebrated Arbor Day on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 10am on the grounds west of the Center for Excellence in Technology and south of the Nathaniel Cross Health Care Technology Building, by planting a tree. George Paul, Environmental Horticulture instructor at Albany Tech, selected a live oak, which is the Georgia state tree. The tree was planted in the large span of grounds between the Center for Excellence in Technology and the Nathaniel Cross Health Care Technology building.
ATC PARTNERED WITH AIC WIRELESS TO PROVIDE TRAINING FOR ELECTRONICS TECHNOLOGY STUDENTS
ROTARY DONATED TO THE ALBANY TECH FOUNDATION, INC. The Rotary Club of Albany presented the Albany Tech Foundation, Inc. with a donation at 3pm on May 30, 2013, in the Executive Board Room of the Logistics Education Center at Albany Technical College. During the presentation by the Rotary Club of Albany, Alex Green (Welding Technology student at
Albany Tech) and Clarence Reed (Automotive Technology student at Albany Tech) were presented with a scholarship for $500 each. In addition, Rotary also donated $160 to the college for General Education Development (GEDÂŽ) testing.
Albany Technical College and AIC Wireless held a press conference on Monday, June 17, 2013, at 10am, in the Electronics Technology Lab of the Center for Excellence in Technology, Room 226, to signify a partnership designed to provide customized training
for Electronics Technology students. AIC Wireless, a division of Automated Irrigation Controls, LLC, was founded in 2005 in Sylvester, Georgia. The company specializes in custom DDC controls applications and the manufacturing of wireless control devices for Building Automation, Intelligent Lighting, Industrial, and Commercial markets, as well as the Agriculture markets. Their wireless controls line stems from a teaming agreement with Tridium, Inc. in Richmond, Virginia, who created the technology called Sedona™ - the platform used to fabricate and build their controller technology on. It is this technology that students enrolled in the Electronics Technology program with a concentration in Industrial Specialization will train in. In addition to the students in the Electronics Technology program with a concentration in Industrial Specialization, students enrolled under a new Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology (ECET) program at Albany Tech will also benefit from this training partnership with AIC Wireless.

ATC LAUNCHED NEW AND IMPROVED WEBSITE
Albany Technical officially launched a new website on Tuesday, June 11, 2013. The new website offers many new features and enhancements including improved layout, a mobile friendly version, and enhanced job listings and contacts. Designed with every audience in mind, the new site presents the end user with only
the information they are interested in. The simple design of the front page easily directs the user to the most critical information first. This is especially useful for students and visitors alike to view information they need the most. In addition, the wider layout allows more room for content in a viewer friendly format.

Albany Technical College held its Spring Commencement Ceremony on Friday, June 7, 2013, at 7pm at the Albany Civic Center. Preceding the ceremony, a reception was held from 5pm to 6:45pm in the Meeting Room at the Civic Center. Over 60 students received their associate degrees; almost 200 received diplomas; and more than 40 technical certificates of credit. In addition, more than 100 students received their GEDÂŽ. Several of these students were also
recognized in the program for outstanding achievements and contributions in club organizations, student organizations, and academic excellence, which includes President’s List, scholarships, and other affiliations. The guest speaker for the evening ceremony will be Lieutenant Commander K. Moore, Commanding Officer of the United States Coast Guard Station Atlantic City and Coast Guard Station Small Great Egg.

ATC’S SASET PROGRAM HELD FIRST ANNUAL ROBOTICS COMPETITION
ATC ENTERED AGREEMENT WITH SOUTHWEST GEORGIA WORKFORCE INVESTMENT BOARD Effective fall semester 2013, Albany Technical College entered an agreement with the Southwest Georgia Workforce Investment Board as administered by the City of Colquitt to help General Education Development (GED®) students gain affordable access to higher education. For over 25 years, high school dropouts were able to attend America’s technical colleges with financial assistance from the U.S. Department of Education based on a specific provision within the Pell Grant Program. The provision, known as Ability to Benefit (ATB), allowed dropouts who are no longer high-school age, to demonstrate their readiness for postsecondary education by achieving certain scores on the college’s placement exam. In order to take advantage of this provision, students who have not completed a high school credential or GED® were required to pass a test indicating that they can read, write, and compute at or above the 12th grade level. Passing the college’s placement exam proved that the student had the ability to benefit from a postsecondary education and were likely to graduate from identified programs. The ATB program
was discontinued in July 2012, which affected hundreds of students who were enrolled at Albany Tech. Through the agreement with the Southwest Georgia Workforce Investment Board through the City of Colquitt, eligible students could receive financial assistance to cover the excess tuition and fees not covered by HOPE, plus, approximately $647 in funding, per student, per semester, for fees, books and supplies. In order to qualify for financial assistance, students must be working on their GED® at Albany Tech while enrolled in one of the following programs: Air Conditioning Technology, Auto Collision Repair, Diesel Equipment Technology, Early Childhood Care and Education, Automotive Technology, Carpentry, Culinary Arts, Electrical Construction and Maintenance, Environmental Horticulture, and Welding and Joining Technology.
Albany Technical College’s Students Achieving Success in Engineering Technology (SASET) program kicked off its first annual Robotics Competition as part of the Summer Robotics Enrichment Academy, which started in May. The competition was held on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, in the Kirkland Conference Center of the ATC campus. The Robotics Camp is part of the $2.4 million grant Albany Tech received almost two years ago from
the Department of Education to encourage students to pursue careers in the areas of Engineering Technology via the SASET Project. The 10-week program is designed to encourage students to use their analytical and critical thinking skills as they learn to build robots through troubleshooting and solving problems using their hands and minds.

ATC NAMED IN FIRE SCIENCE ONLINE’S TOP 100 COLLEGES WHERE GRADS SAVE LIVES Albany Technical College was recognized by Fire Science Online as a top 100 college that offers the most first responder programs in the country, including firefighting, EMT, and law enforcement. In the creation of the list, just under 7,000 first response programs across nearly 2,500 colleges and universities were reviewed. Each of these
ATC SIGNED ARTICULATION AGREEMENTS WITH GEORGIA SOUTHWESTERN STATE UNIVERSITY Albany Technical College officially signed two articulation agreements with Georgia Southwestern State University on Monday, August 19, 2013, at 10:30am in the Executive Board Room, Albany Tech Logistics Education Center. Through the articulation agreements, students graduating with a Networking Specialist, PC Maintenance Specialist, or Computer Support Specialist Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS) from Albany Tech (ATC) can begin work toward a Bachelor of Science (BS) in
Information Technology from Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW). In addition, students graduating from an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Accounting from ATC can begin work toward a Bachelor of Business Arts (BBA) degree in Accounting from GSW, while students graduating with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Business Management from ATC can begin work toward a Bachelor of Business Arts (BBA) degree in Management from GSW.

Only the schools with the most programs (no less than seven) made the list, providing they met the following criteria: Fully-accredited schools only; public and private schools included; two- and four-year institutions included; and U.S. (and its territories) colleges only.
ATC BROKE GROUND ON “WALL OF GIVING”
Albany Technical College officially broke ground on its new “Wall of Giving” on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at 10am, on the grounds north of the Nathaniel Cross Health Care Technology Building. The Wall of Giving is one of the final pieces of the campus master plan that was developed prior to a recently ended capital campaign and will be a way to recognize donors. The garden concept with an engraved brick walkway evolved to a wall that better blends with the rest of the campus. The Wall of Giving will allow Albany Tech masonry students to construct a lasting memory of their student days here at Albany Tech as they build on the masonry skills. In addition to the masonry students actually building the wall, the rendering for the Wall of Giving was created by students in the drafting technology program at Albany
Tech. With workforce development being one of the primary objectives at Albany Tech, this project provided a means for students in these two programs to work on a “Real World” project that would last for many years to come. In 2010, drafting students designed a campus marquee, which was later constructed by Albany Tech masonry students.

STATE REPRESENTATIVE WINFRED DUKES VISITED ATC’S CHILD DEVELOPMENT DEMONSTRATION CENTER AS PART OF PRE-K WEEK IN GEORGIA Georgia Representative Winfred Dukes, 150th District, sat alongside a group of 4-year-olds on Monday, September 30, 2013, from 9am to 10am, reading to the group from a favorite children’s book as part of Georgia’s Pre-K Week. Around the state, attention was turned to the tens of thousands of Georgia’s youngest children in celebration of the important work they are doing to prepare for school success. September 30-October 4 was the state’s official Pre-K Week, hosted by Voices for Georgia’s Children (www.georgiavoices.com)
and its Pre-K Week partners. Representative Winfred Dukes is one of nearly 150 officials who visited some of the approximately 3,800 Pre-K classrooms located in all 159 counties in Georgia. Representative Dukes was at the Albany Technical College Child Development Demonstration Center at 2031 Newton Road. While there, he participated in a reading activity with the children, took a tour of the facility, talked with the staff, and got an upclose look at the many ways that the center is supporting early learning.
ATC PRESIDENT PARKER HELD ANNUAL STATE OF THE COLLEGE ADDRESS Albany Technical College President, Dr. Anthony Parker, delivered a State of the College address on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at 10am in the Kirkland Conference Center. Dr. Parker focused on Albany Technical College’s strength in enrollment and compared how we measure up within the seven-county Service Delivery Area (SDA). AMERICAN PROTEINS DONATED SCHOLARSHIP TO ALBANY TECH FOUNDATION, INC.
Norman Barber, Human Resources and Safety Manager for American Proteins, Inc., presented Dr. Anthony Parker, President of Albany Tech, with a check for $8,000 for the Foundation’s scholarship funds on Monday, November 25, 2013, at 10am in the President’s office in the Kirkland Administration Building. Forsyth County business and civic leader, Tommy Bagwell and his wife, Chantal, established the $500,000 Bagwell Family Scholarship Endowment to provide scholarships for students attending technical colleges located near their family business locations.
The family business, American Proteins, Inc., currently has five locations, including one in Cuthbert, GA. Scholarship recipients are chosen using the following criteria: financial need, proximity to the company’s operation sites and the likelihood of their success.
ATC HELD DUAL/JOINT ENROLLMENT FORUM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND PARENTS ALBANY TECH FOUNDATION, INC. HELD ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT The Albany Tech Foundation, Inc. held its annual golf tournament on Monday, October 28, 2013, at 11am at Stonebridge Golf and Country Club. Proceeds from the tournament benefited the Albany Tech Foundation and its mission in providing scholarships to Albany Tech students in need of financial assistance, along with other initiatives needed by the College. Albany Technical College held a dual/ joint enrollment forum for area high school students and their parents on Thursday, November 7, 2013, at 6pm in the Kirkland Conference Center. The purpose of the forum was to educate students and their parents in the Southwest Georgia area about the options available to high school students through Albany Tech’s dual/ joint enrollment programs. These
programs provide an opportunity for high school students to enroll in college while pursuing their high school graduation requirements.

ATC HELD FIRST ANNUAL VETERAN’S DAY CEREMONY
Albany Technical College held their first annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at 10am, in the Kirkland Conference Center. Keynote speaker for the ceremony was Daniel J. Gillan, current President/Chief Executive Officer of the Albany Area YMCA. Gillan served over 32 years as a United States Marine, retiring in 2009 after serving two years as CEO and Commander of the Maintenance Center Albany at MCLB. At MCLB, Gillan led a workforce of over 2000 Marines and Civilian Marines providing maintenance, repair and overhaul of Marine Corps ground combat equipment while managing an annual budget with revenue of over $375 million.

AT&T PRESENTED ALBANY TECH FOUNDATION, INC. WITH DONATION The Albany Technical College Foundation was presented with a $2,500 scholarship donation check on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at 10am in the Executive Board Room of the Logistics Education Center, by AT&T District Director, Courtney
Brinson. AT&T presented Albany Tech Foundation with a scholarship donation of $3,000 just last July. The college has received almost $70,000 from AT&T in the past five years. The money goes toward the college’s general scholarship fund to help students in need.

December ATC HELD FALL COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES Albany Technical College held fall commencement exercises on Thursday, December 5, 2013, at 7pm, at the Albany Civic Center. A reception was held from 5:15pm to 6:45pm in the Meeting Room at the Civic Center prior to the ceremony. Over 170 received associate degrees; over 500 diplomas; and almost 300 technical certificates of credit. In addition, over 130 graduates received their General Education Diplomas (GED®). Almost 100 students graduated with honors with such recognitions as highest scores on the GED®; Presidential Scholar; Honors with Distinction; National Technical Honor Society; Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL); Student Government Association; Phi Beta Lambda; and Skills USA. Keynote speaker for the ceremony was Cynthia C. George, owner of Artesian Consulting, LLC, and current Chair of the Albany Chamber Board of Directors. Among those graduating included AAmir Greene, Albany Tech’s GOAL Winner and the 2013 State Ambassador for Technical Education in Georgia.
