CRIMINAL JUSTICE TECHNOLOGY This program provides students with a solid foundation in basic law enforcement skills, including the areas of law enforcement, legal systems, crime prevention, corrections, and probation. These areas of study are directly involved in the apprehension, prosecution, defense, sentencing, incarceration, and supervision of those suspected of, or charged with, criminal offenses. Students will earn a Criminal Justice Associate of Applied Science degree or diploma, with Technical Certificates of Credit (TCC) in Criminal Justice Specialist and Homeland Security Technician. Students will be qualified for diverse opportunities in the corrections, security, investigative, and police administration fields. Completion of the Criminal Justice associate degree or diploma does not ensure certification of officer status in Georgia.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR CONTINUED EDUCATION Students who want to receive a certification of officer status in Georgia must do so through the Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Council, which requires additional training for certification.
DEGREE Cyber Crime Investigation
CYBER CRIME INVESTIGATION As more of the world’s personal and business transactions are conducted online, the opportunity for criminal activity increases, creating a growing need for security specialists capable of investigating cyber crimes. This program will prepare students to enter the field of computer crime investigations and private security, teaching them how to investigate computer crimes, properly seize and recover computer evidence, and aid in the prosecution of cyber criminals. Course work will include the study of criminal justice and computer information systems. Upon successful completion of the Cyber Crime Investigations degree program, the graduate should be able to identify current ethical issues in computer technology; use appropriate software to monitor network traffic; identify network vulnerabilities; create plans to enhance network security; apply computer investigations skills and analysis techniques; and act as an expert witness and present evidence and findings in the court of law. Students will earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Cyber Crime Investigations, qualifying them to become computer crime investigators for local or state criminal justice agencies, work as computer security specialists or serve as consultants to private businesses.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR CONTINUED EDUCATION Often graduates that earn an associate degree in Cyber Crime Investigation choose to pursue a four-year degree at an institute of higher learning.

Fire Science Technology Professional Fire Officer Professional Firefighter
FIRE SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY/ PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTER Every year, fires and other emergencies take thousands of lives and destroy property worth billions of dollars. Firefighters help protect the public against these dangers by responding to fires and a variety of other emergencies. Although they put out fires, firefighters more frequently respond to other emergencies and are often the first emergency personnel at the scene of a traffic accident or medical emergency and may be called upon to treat injuries or perform other vital functions. The Professional Firefighter diploma is designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in the public safety area of firefighting, whereas the Professional Fire Officer diploma program prepares fire service personnel at all levels to become better officers and leaders. Albany Tech’s curriculum for this program has been validated by subject matter experts and is based on a national model developed by the National Fire Academy.
Depending on which path they choose, students will earn a Fire Science Technology Associate of Applied Science degree or diploma, a Professional Firefighter or Professional Fire Officer diploma, or Technical Certificates of Credit in Firefighter 1, Firefighter 2, Basic Fire Company Officer, Fire Officer 1, and Fire Officer 2. To date, 99 percent of students who completed this program gained employment in their respective fields.
DEGREE Fire and Emergency Services Occupation
FIRE & EMERGENCY SERVICES OCCUPATION The first degree of its kind in the State of Georgia, Albany Tech’s Fire & Emergency Services Occupation program offers dual certification in both fire and emergency medical services. It also is a degree designed for promotional purposes at the occupational level. Students who are Fire and EMS dual certified are more marketable graduates as industry demand for qualified employees in this field increases. Students will earn a Fire and Emergency Services Occupation Associate of Applied Science degree, qualifying them for entry-level employment in the public safety areas of fire service and emergency medical services. Upon completion of this degree program, students may be eligible for certification and/or licensure in the following areas: Firefighter I, Firefighter II, EMT, and Advanced EMT. *Note: Criminal background checks and drug screens will be required for participation in clinical experiences.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR CONTINUED EDUCATION Students may choose to further their education on the paramedicine side or the fire science side.
DIPLOMAS Firefighter/Emergency Medical Services Professional
FIREFIGHTER/ EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES PROFESSIONAL The Firefighter/Emergency Medical Services Professional diploma program is designed to prepare students for entry level employment in the public safety areas of fire service and emergency medical services. Upon completion of the Firefighter/Emergency Medical Services Professional diploma, students may be eligible for certification and/or licensure in the following areas: Firefighter I, EMT, and AEMT. Note: criminal background checks and drug screens may be required based on the requirements for participation in clinical experiences. To complete the AEMT portion.

ADMISSIONS TESTING
ATC uses the Accuplacer-Next Generation exam for measuring proficiency in reading, writing and math. Applicants must achieve minimum admissions scores on the exam as specified in the program state standards or acceptable scores on a statistically validated test such as the SAT or ACT. Program-specific entrance scores are a minimum requirement, and higher scores may be required. Reasonable accommodations are made during testing for those who need them. (The examiner should be notified prior to testing.)
FINANCIAL AID
ATC offers several types of financial assistance to help qualified applicants pay for their education. Funds are available through the Federal Pell Grant, the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, Federal Work-Study and the Georgia HOPE programs. Students may also receive assistance through the Job Training Partnership Act, operated by the Georgia Department of Labor, or the Veterans Educational Assistance Program, administered by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Sufficient financial assistance is available to provide the opportunity for eligible students to attend college. Grant and scholarship programs operate on an award-year beginning in August and ending in July. Students must apply or re-apply each year to receive or continue to receive financial aid.

Albany Tech is charged with providing education opportunities to the residents, businesses and industries within a seven-county service delivery area. These counties include Baker, Calhoun, Clay, Dougherty, Lee, Randolph and Terrell. Today, more than 3,000 full-time students are enrolled in credit programs per semester. Another 2,500 are enrolled part-time and in seminars, continuing education courses, teleconferences and customized business training. All of our graduates receive job placement services from our Career Services department. The result? Ninety-eight percent of our graduates are employed.
