Industrial Operations Technician Graduates of Program Share SUCCESS STORIES Life Changing: Jerry Brett Lowery For as long as he can remember, Jerry Brett Lowery wanted to work in a factory. He has always been intrigued by the process of creating a product. Lowery is now living his dream as a recent hire at MillerCoors in Albany. Not only is he spending his workdays doing work he enjoys, he is also getting paid well to do it. Lowery owes his hiring to the fact that he earned a certificate in Albany Tech’s Industrial Operations Technician program. Lowery feels that he was granted an interview because of his participation in the Industrial Ops program, which was designed by the local

Industry Roundtable. Because local industry helped create the curriculum, they know what students have learned when they’ve completed the program. The combination of hands-on skills and soft skills, such as communication and conflict management, ensure that students are work-ready when they graduate. “During the interview, when I began discussing my Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma, their eyes lit up!” Lowery said. Lowery doesn’t plan to stop with his certificate. “Taking this program has made me want to learn more,” he says. He plans to continue his education at Albany Tech and aspires to

work in management at MillerCoors. Of the Industrial Ops program, Lowery says, “This program changed my life.”

“Taking this program has made me want to learn more.”

“Confidence Gaining!” Quarntavious Gladden

Confidence Gaining Quarntavious Gladden Gladden had a long-standing job at a small manufacturing company, but wanted a change. Gladden was appreciated at his workplace because of his loyalty, longevity, and his ability to conceive new approaches and solve problems. That mindset for problem-solving led Gladden to the Industrial Operations Program at Albany Tech, and finally to Procter & Gamble. Before beginning the program, Gladden knew the advancement opportunities with his employer were limited. He chose Industrial Ops because he wanted to gain the skills needed to move up in the manufacturing field, while continuing to work full-time at his job.The

flexibility of the classes in Industrial Ops allowed him to work while earning his certificate. Like many people, Gladden did not believe that a job at Albany’s Procter & Gamble plant was attainable. “I thought you had to know somebody to even get an interview.” However, graduating from Albany Tech gave him the confidence to apply to the company anyway. P&G managers saw the Industrial Ops certificate on his resume and called him in for an interview. “It’s been less than a year since I completed the program, and now I am a Plant Technician at Procter & Gamble,” he says. “In my opinion, P&G is one of the greatest companies in this area. I’m proud to work there.”

Employers benefit as well. When more than one-third of their project managers are PMP-certified, organizations complete more of their projects on time, on budget and meeting original goals.
