Goodwill of the Southern Rivers, Inc. Goodwill Career Center/Center for Business Solutions Partnership Provides Participants with Many Competitive Advantages
When Goodwill Industries of the Southern Rivers, Inc. began a training partnership with the Center for Business Solutions (CBS) at Albany Technical College, they had no idea just how many competitive advantages the training would offer their participants. Through skills training classes such as ServSafe Food Handlers, National Retail Federation, and Spartan Custodial classes, all participants are more prepared than ever to enter the job search arena with a competitive advantage. The primary advantage is the National Certification in each area provided by the completion of these classes.
Not only has the collaboration enabled Goodwill to make their participants more marketable for competitive employment, but it has also allowed Goodwill’s placement services to help these individuals to not only become employed, but to be better able to retain their employment. “This training has helped support and increase the success of our mission of connecting people with jobs,” said Crystal Askew, Mission Services Manager, Career Center, for Goodwill Industries of the Southern Rivers, Inc.

The Quality Assurance Professional program acquaints the learner with additional tools and methodologies beyond the Green Belt level that will further enhance the skills previously acquired. The methodology
12
used to accomplish this will be a project simulation where the tools are applied to data and circumstances. This will give the learner opportunity to practice the skills prior to applying them in a real life setting. This program equips individuals to function as the leader of a Six Sigma team in addition to their regular assigned duties. It will also prepare them to be able to sit for the Six Sigma Black Belt certification exam.
High Performance Leadership This course will allow you to explore topics in leadership and practice proven leadership techniques. The topics covered will help you meet the challenges you will face as a leader in the 21st Century. The purpose of this course is to enable participants to build basic leadership skills. The primary focus is how to accomplish goals effectively and efficiently through the use of proven leadership techniques. Participants will determine their personal or preferred leadership styles by completing a series of leadership self-assessments. Activities such as role-
plays, class discussions, case studies, and video presentations allow participants to determine individual leadership strengths and provide opportunities to model appropriate behaviors in the workplace. Throughout the course, participants will develop a Leadership Action Plan to apply new skills that have been learned in the course. The principles taught in this course are appropriate for more traditional organizational structures, as well as team environments.
Customer Contact Specialist The Customer Contact Specialist Certificate prepares the individual for work in the business environment through training that equips the individual with the skills necessary to provide quality customer service through an understanding of the nature of business, customer service, and personal growth and development in the context of constant change. This certificate is completed entirely online and is imbedded in the Business Logistics Diploma and Associates degree programs.
City of Albany/Dougherty County Customer Service Training In 2008, CBS began a customer service training partnership with the City of Albany and Dougherty County. Through this partnership, dozens of employees, representing all departments from public works and public safety to solid waste and finance, have trained in business communications, computer skills, problem solving, crisis management, and even psychology. "One of the most important aspects of serving a customer is understanding their concerns," said Dr. Steve Eidson, Solutions Associate at CBS. "This requires truly listening to their problem and emphathizing with their feelings and then, logically handling the situation in a way that benefits the customer and your organization. The CCSS class teaches this lesson." Employees receive a Technical Certificate of Credit upon successful completion.
