[Youth Hostel ReDesign]
“ I want the users to feel comfortable and live harmony when they have cultural exchange!” “ When the public are discussing the future of West Kowloon Cultural district, This PMQ exists more than 50 years and is more precious to be our cultural hub for art development.” The vertical green wall chains help lowering the temperature of façade. The façade design aims to communicate the sustainability and revitalization of the original façade---vivid and energetic. “Transition---New meets Old---consists of the combination of contemporary residential elements and traditional PMQ façade. It symbolizes the cultural fusion and generates creativity of the youth generation.”

Living Room
Flexible open space caters different users to redesign their private time in the PMQ Youth Hostel. Rederings from the 4 Person Room are shown to express the spatial quality. Indeed, the partition walls are designed in a flexible way that the users can link up the living room and bedroom space. “The interior design of the hostel rooms uses lots of environmentally-friendly materials such as second-hand furniture and recyclable wood, and provides a comfortable place for users!”

8 A. Wave-form glazing would be my façade pattern of Cultural Centre. Art has no boundary here---free to express your mindset.

B. The ground floor serves as an exhibition hall in telling a story of PMQ. With the reflection of light, the interior environment is pleasant and comfortable. C. Cultural Centre---time for music buff to Rock and Roll. This Cultural Centre adopts column-free structure and allows users to feel the expression of Art here. My gradual development starts from boxes arranged in random angles. As I investigate further, I find these transformations are interesting and innovative. Finally, I reach to an envelope with stripe-like shape. I study various possibilities of different forms of Cultural Centre.

A “By finding the turning curves and angles on my wall façade, I notice that Long shape is a good way to solve the spatial mismatch on the courtyard of PMQ!”
