glue The design took shape starting from a deep understanding of the area and its development following a compelling hierarchical system based on different ground levels. The different layers subdivide the space into separate functional spheres: the city and the public space on the street level, the more private area dedicated to the campus and university life at minus one. The resulting framework, the “glue, is a complex system where the different layers are divided but also strongly connected. The design on the upper level is strongly interconnected to the allocation of the functions on the lower level, giving life to an efficient synergy between the different parts of the project. The obstructed flow of people is now possible and made more natural thanks to the organic design of the shell-bridge, which follows the flux of the users and links the entrance of the University buildings. The second element of the project is some rectangular pavilions placed in some specific points, allocating functions to bring people belonging to the different social spheres together. Even though the project may look like a very invasive design proposal, the final result is, in fact, a well-balanced dialogue between the different part of the social life concerning the surrounding area, re-establishing a lost balance and giving fluidity to the Campus conformation.

archipelago marvila The Marvila district is located in the eastern part of Lisbon, between the historic centre and the area of the Expo 98. It is characterized by social housing buildings dated 1960/70 and a variety of urban voids where spontaneous and lush vegetation grows, by an irregular terrain morphology and marked by overlapped historical heritage and identity: the rural and agricultural memory represented by the Quintas buildings (Lisbon nobility’s holiday houses), the conventual and monastic patrimony and the industrial and productive heritage. The district, inhabited by low-income classes, lacks in the quality of public space and it is poorly connected with the rest of the city as it manifests an important unevenness in urban planning. This thesis aims to enhance and safeguard the natural environment and the places of local memory, preserving them from speculation, degradation and abandonment, creating a new local identity among the inhabitants of Marvila. The urban strategy involves two macro phases: the protection of green areas and the enhancement of the local memory. The first phase involves the action of local administrative authorities: the purpose is to widen the boundaries of the Bela Vista Urban Park, integrating the surrounding green and agricultural areas, thus giving life to a new urban green lung. The second phase involves the local heritage

house two The project of House Two is located in Borneo Sporenburg, the Amsterdam’s district designed by West 8 in 1993-1996. We respected the rules and the dimension given by the masterplan, and we tryed to enlarge the scale of the project designing an apartment that is able to involve the neighbourhood trhough a small and flexible art gallery that face the public space. We decided to create a double house, divided by a small street inspired by the ancien street of the old city of Amsterdam that allowed us to experiment with the small dimension of housing, but at the same time with two different layers of the society - private and public- in a light and delicate way.

once upon a time The project design focus on two main topics: how the private and safe space of a school can relate to the public surrounding and how the interior spaces can create more welcoming, flexible and fluid spaces, encouraging a stimulating and interactive learning process. The complex is composed of two buildings: the kindergarten and the primary school. The square in front of them generates an area able to mediate between the public, open space and the protected, private space. A light foil runs along the entire perimeter of the square going up and down creating a bench in one point and a shelter in another. The Kindergarten building interfaces with the public space through a dynamic facade where the openings are designed in order to guarantee the privacy of the young users but allowing to natural light to enlight the interiors. The classrooms develop around a shared stepped patio and the interior is thought to be as more flexible as possible. The garden is a fundamental tool for cognitive and sensory learning planted with allyear vegetation, studied according to light differences throughout the four seasons, and thanks to some changeable and interactive elements which generate sounds.
