In questo palinsesto fall/winter 2016 ci sono due facce, come accade per le monete.
There are two sides to this fall / winter 2016 collection, like the two sides of a coin.
Una faccia è composta di pochi eccellenti progetti nella vena per noi più abituale: lo Spremilimoni/pestello di Venturini, i Reggilibri di Mirri, i Piatti per pasta con il Barattolo per spaghetti di LPWK/Aricò; la riedizione della serie di Mestoli di Starck e alcune nuove versioni di oggetti già in catalogo (tra cui mi piace segnalare i due nuovi colori della sedia “Piana” di Chipperfield e la versione nera della caffettiera “Ossidiana” di Trimarchi, che ha appena vinto il decimo premio Compasso d’Oro della nostra storia!).
One side presents a few select projects designed along our usual lines of production: a Lemon-squeezer / pestle by Venturini, the Bookstands by Mirri, the Pasta dishes with Spaghetti jar by LPWK / Aricò ; the re-release of the kitchen cutlery set by Starck and new versions of some objects already in the catalogue (among which I would like to point out two new colours for the “Piana” chair by Chipperfield and the black version of the “Ossidiana” espresso coffee maker by Trimarchi, which just won the tenth Compasso d’Oro award in our history!).
L’altra faccia illustra una sorta di esplosione progettuale di Marcel Wanders, alla cui potenza e tenacia espressiva è il caso di dire che questa volta abbiamo mollato i freni. Oltre al completamento del servizio da tavola “Dressed” con una importante collezione di oggetti dedicati in particolare al tema delle festività, Marcel ha disegnato una serie di decorazioni natalizie. E una primizia nel mondo Alessi: una nuova famiglia di oggetti come dire “fortemente decorativi” che si chiama “Circus”, dotata di un profilo non solo estetico ma anche di mercato piuttosto innovativo e suddivisa tra i marchi “Alessi” e “Officina Alessi”, alla quale abbiamo dedicato un supplemento di questo magazine.
The flip side illustrates a kind of design explosion by Marcel Wanders who, in front of his expressive power and tenacity, we decided to stop holding back this time. In addition to completing the “Dressed” table service with an important collection of objects dedicated especially to the holidays, Marcel designed a series of Christmas decorations. And also a first in the world Alessi: a new family of objects that, putting it lightly, are “highly decorative”, called “Circus”. Its aesthetic profile as well as its market orientation are both rather innovative and straddle the brands “Alessi” and “Officina Alessi ” to which we have dedicated a supplement of this magazine.

“Valerio” is a multipurpose luxury “objet-bijou” in stainless steel, alluding to erotic inspiration. After all, back in 1993 the same designer conceived the equally suggestive gas lighter “Firebird.”

Una nuova versione nera festeggia il quarto prestigioso riconoscimento collezionato dalla caffettiera “Ossidiana”: il premio Compasso d’Oro (ricordo che si tratta del decimo premio Compasso d’Oro ricevuto dalla Alessi) segue il tedesco Red Dot, l’americano International Design Award e il Design for All Quality Label. Considero questo progetto un grande esempio di come un buon design possa riunire in sé una estetica scultorea molto contemporanea, un bisogno di rinnovata semplicità e l’attenzione per una facilità di uso da parte di tutti. A new black version celebrates the fourth prestigious award for the coffee pot “Ossidiana”: the Compasso d’Oro (this is the tenth time in its history that Alessi has been awarded the Compasso d’Oro), following the German Red Dot, the American International Design Award and Design for All Quality Label. I consider this project a great example of how good design bring together in a single object a very contemporary sculptural aesthetic, a need for renewed focus on simplicity and ease of use by all. Tra i simboli più iconici legati al Natale, il Presepe è scelto da Wanders per creare una collezione di dieci campanelle che raffigurano i personaggi ricordati nel racconto biblico: Maria, Giuseppe, il bue e l’asinello, un angelo, una stella, i Re Magi. Le stesse campane sono uno dei simboli per eccellenza di questa festività, rappresentando il raccogliersi insieme delle persone per condividere un tempo speciale. Arricchite di un fiocco, richiamano anche il gesto di fare un regalo alle persone care. Completa questa collezione di ornamenti festosi e colorati una serie di classici addobbi per l’albero di Natale e un alberello in acciaio inossidabile.
Among the most iconic symbols related to Christmas, Wanders chose the crib to create a collection of ten bells depicting the characters mentioned in the biblical story: Mary, Joseph, the ox and the donkey, an angel, a star, the Magi. Bells themselves are one of the symbols that epitomise the holiday season, representing people gathering together to share a special time. Embellished with a bow, they also recall the gesture of exchanging gifts with your loved ones. Estensione della collezione “Dressed” creata nel 2011 da Marcel Wanders, questa nuova serie propone oggetti e accessori per il Natale. Per la produzione degli oggetti della collezione vengono accostati materiali diversi: acciaio, zama, ceramica stoneware e porcellana sono impiegati per alzate, candelieri, pirofile, portatovaglioli, segnaposto, un vassoio e una ciotola alla quale associare delle forchettine per antipasti. Oggetti speciali come il momento al quale sono dedicati, grazie a un uso sapiente di colori evocativi, il bianco e l’argento, e di elementi che richiamano la magia delle feste come un angelo stilizzato riconoscibile nel disegno per i due simboli distintivi: le ali e l’aureola. alberto alessi
Continuing the “Dressed” collection created in 2011 by Marcel Wanders, this new series offers objects and accessories for Christmas. In the production of this collection, different materials have been juxtaposed: steel, zinc alloy, stoneware and porcelain are used for cake stands, candlestick, oven dishes, napkin rings, place cards, a tray and a bowl to which the appetizer forks can be associated. Objects that are as special as the time to which they are dedicated, thanks to a clever use of evocative colours — black and silver — and elements that recall the magic of the holidays, like a stylized angel depicted with two highly-distinctive symbols wings and a halo. “La letteratura per l'infanzia che vede animali protagonisti in avventure e imprese accanto agli esseri umani è immensa. Nel mio caso da "Storie proprio così" di Kipling a "Zanna bianca" di London passando per le favole di Esopo, da Snoopy di Schulz ai personaggi delle filastrocche di Roald Dahl sono stati molti gli incontri letterari felici in cui era bello immedesimarsi. Questi tre personaggi escono dalle pagine di qualche storia forse ancora non scritta e non si limitano a rimanere pressati fra le copertine dei libri che sorreggono. Chiedono di essere guardati nello splendore del loro materiale, l'acciaio più nobile, e dei loro colori. Desiderano stare in tranquillità sulle nostre scrivanie o sullo scaffale accudendo volumi, quaderni, riviste selezionate. Sono anche leggermente più grandi di altri fermalibri in commercio”

A vast amount of children’s literature features animals as main characters alongside their human cohorts, busying themselves in all sorts of challenges and adventures. In my case, they ranged from “Just So Stories for Little Children” by Kipling to “White Fang” by Jack London on through to Aesop’s fables; from Snoopy by Charles Schulz to the characters in Roald Dahl’s nursery rhymes. Many were the times I identified with them as I merrily engrossed myself in a book. These three characters come from the pages of history, perhaps as yet unwritten, and are not limited to simply being sandwiched between the covers of the books they hold up. They demand to be viewed in the splendor of their material, the most noble steel, and their colours. They want to sit calmly on our desks or bookshelves caring for volumes, notebooks, selected magazines. They are also slightly larger than other bookends on the market.
