Cyprus News Headlines ►Government is monitoring situation in Libya, says Government Spokesman Due to current events in Libya the Cyprus Government is continuously monitoring the situation and the Cyprus Embassy in Tripoli is in communication with most of the Cypriots who live there. The aforementioned statement was made by the Government Spokesman Mr Stefanos Stefanou, who also pointed out that the Government is coordinating closely with both the European Union and Greece in case Cypriots need to be flown out of Libya at short notice. More specifically, speaking to the press after a meeting of the Council of Ministers yesterday, Mr Stefanou said in regards to Libya, “The Government of the Republic of Cyprus is continuously monitoring developments and events in Libya.
www.larnacanews.com
It is known that there are a number of Cypriots there, about 140, and despite the existing problems with communication and movement, our Embassy in Libya is in contact with most of the Cypriots who are there. We are coordinating and are in constant contact with the EU, as in the case of Egypt. There is also constant contact and coordination with Greece, with the Greek Foreign Ministry, so that if there is a
need and a decision to transport Cypriots out of Libya, this will take place”. Turn To Page 7

Cyprus News Islandwide ►President Christofias presides over a broad meeting on the Cyprus term of EU Presidency On the 23rd Feb the President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr Demetris Christofias presided over a broad meeting at the Presidential Palace on the subject of the assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union by the Republic of Cyprus. The meeting was attended by the members of the Council of Ministers, the Secretariat of the Cyprus EU Presidency and government officials. Head of the Secretariat of the Cyprus Presidency of the EU Mr Andreas Moleskis told the press afterwards that there was “a broad meeting…on the issue of our preparation for the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU in the latter half of 2012… covering, in detail, policy issues as well as organisational matters and I would like to express my satisfaction for the fact that all the Ministries have progressed and are in a position to be ready in time, so that we can hold a successful Presidency”. According to Mr Molsekis it has been decided that the end of March will signal a time when all of the Ministries and services will be properly staffed in preparation for training in Brussels. Mr Moleskis also pointed out that two scenario solutions have been considered, one with the Cyprus Problem solved and the other with it unsolved by 2012. “The Secretariat already employs a small, for the time being, number of Turkish-Cypriots and our website is in four languages, Greek, Turkish, French and English. Therefore the preparation, in order to be ready when a solution is found, is in progress and we will have created a host environment – when there is a solution”. Agenda and policy issue of the Presidency were not discussed in the meeting however. www.larnacanews.com
►Government Spokesman – Religious Rights During a press briefing at the end of February the Government Spokesman Mr Stefanou replied to many journalists' questions. Invited to comment on a statement by the so-called ministry of foreign affairs that the Greek Cypriot side should give equal rights to the Turkish Cypriots living in the governmentcontrolled areas to freely perform their religious duties, Mr Stefanou said, “Each citizen of the Republic of Cyprus, either Greek-Cypriot or Turkish-Cypriot, has equal rights and can freely exercise his religious rights. This is something that, unfortunately, cannot be said about the occupied areas. The so-called minister of foreign affairs cannot try to give lessons to the Republic of Cyprus, which consistently implements the Constitution, the law and every international convention.” ►President Christofias to veto NATO Partnership for Peace Program Cyprus' legislature voted to join NATO's Partnership for Peace program, but the island's president said he will veto the decision. Government spokesman Mr Stefanou said in a written statement that membership of the program is not in line with President Christofias' vow to achieve a peace deal with
breakaway Turkish Cypriots that would demilitarize the island. A total of 32 lawmakers voted for membership, whilst 17 voted against. Mr Stefanou said that the vote was in breach of the Cypriot constitution because it infringed on the president's executive authority to conduct foreign policy. Christofias also rebuffed a 2009 House vote that urged him to swiftly apply for Partnership for Peace membership. Lawmakers who voted in favour reasoned that it would provide the opportunity to have more of a say in EU-NATO co-operation, which would in turn bolster reunification efforts. The program was created in 1994 by NATO to boost ties with non-alliance member countries in Europe and the former Soviet Union. Mr Stefanou stated that Cyprus already has "equal participation" in EU security and defence mechanisms. Larnaca News 9

Hormone Balance High Energy Living by Dr. Mirjana Duvnjak, MD, MT, FDN&M Practitioner Hormones effect all aspects of your life - energy level, vitality, mood, brain functions, etc. Simply, your quality of life depends upon your hormonal balance. Hormones in your body work in synergy with the body's natural ability of self-healing as well. Depression - is mainly caused by hormonal imbalances (Estrogens, Progesterone, Thyroid, Testosterone.) How are they connected? Brains chemicals - neurotransmitters, who are responsible for our mood and mental health, are activated by hormones, therefore a lack in hormonal balance leads to imbalances in brain functions. Sleep Problems - Stress hormone imbalance interferes with deep sleep(REM), and taking sleeping pills does not address the root of the problem. THYROID - imbalances in Thyroid hormones cause weight gain, fatigue, dry skin, and other health problems. The Thyroid is directly involved in energy level regulation. The average life today is full of stress; one kind or another. Handling stress, even chronic stress, properly means we need balanced hormones. Fatigue - one of the modern day epidemics, fatigue, is caused by low thyroid, low testosterone and low stress hormones. These are just some of the chronic symptoms and diseases directly influenced and caused by hormonal imbalances. Modern, conventional medicine does not address their root problems. Influenced by pharmaceutical industries (selling disease, not health) and lack of education in functional diagnostic medicine, we are prescribed pills or corrective surgery that does not solve the root of the problem. More likely, pharmaceutical drugs, with their many side-effects can cause further deterioration in someone’s health. Today, when you can get information about an alternative, holistic approach to building www.larnacanews.com
health, not treating diseases, you should take responsibility for your own body and mind. If you have knowledge, you are the master of your own destiny. Food - is the first step to your health. Natural, fresh vegetables and fruits, preferably organic, should be your choice. Meat from organic, pasture fed animals in small quantities is also helpful. Why? Conventionally grown fruits and vegetables are full of pesticides. Conventionally grown animals for meat and milk production are full of antibiotics and growth-hormones. Today’s science proves without a doubt that pesticides act as Xenoestrogens in our body, and disrupt the normal function of our hormones. Those Xenoestrogens can cause prostate problems in men, infertility and other menstrual problems in women and praecox onset of puberty in children. Metabolic Typing(R) diet is the first and major step to restoring your hormonal balance and restoring or maintaining your vibrant health. Non MT diets in time lead to cellular, tissue, organ, glandular and systemic inefficiency. This inefficiency cascade stresses digestion, detoxification, hormones, and immune function and leads to different symptoms and chronic diseases. The Adrenal glands (above your kidneys) are the body's first line
of defence and are the heart of stress response. Conventional doctors do not know how to deal with stress in a natural way due to lack of knowledge about laboratory tests which can detect any abnormality in adrenal function and their connection with other hormonal imbalances. Functional Diagnostic Medicine uses saliva as a medium, which gives us bio available hormonal values, and uses natural adrenal and other hormones to restore balance and health of adrenal glands, leading to a balance in all other hormones. ouise Cunningham has lost over 5 stone in the last 6 months with Slimming World and their Food Optimising plans. It has never been so easy to lose weight, 3 simply wonderful plans- no measuring, calorie counting or points to add up. Louise says, "When I first walked into the Slimming World group in Dhekelia it felt so friendly, warm and fun. The Consultant Caz was bubbly and friendly and told me how she would personally support me and help me to succeed in losing weight" "For years I had been yo-yo dieting, losing weight, getting fed up then putting all the weight I had lost back on and more after just a few months. "I was fed up, depressed and shopping was a nightmare - buying what fitted rather than what I wanted" "I felt awful when taking ages to get ready for a night out as I hated myself in everything I wore. Living in Cyprus where the summer is hot, bikinis and swimwear are a must, but not for me, I was embarrassed wearing them; hiding at the water park where the rest of the family were having a terrific time, just cringing lying in the sun." "When I walked into the Slimming World Group the atmosphere was electric. Everyone was smiling, welcoming and friendly. The consultant Caroline spent time with all the new members, including me, and we were told all about Slimming Worlds Food Optimising plans and listening to Image Therapy (the group part of the session). My life changed. It was not like a diet. I could have chicken curry and rice or a full English breakfast, lasagne, fish and chips, burgers, roast dinners, no calorie counting or weighing; it seemed too good to be true!" "Listening to the other members I realised it was true; it worked. Free Food is the key. Lots of variety, no measuring and everything I wanted to eat. Lovely!" "I felt motivated as I left on that first day and throughout the week I was never hungry. It really felt like I wasn't on a diet - no way could I lose weight...could I?" "I lost 9lbs in my first week and continued losing every week. Now I have lost over 4 and a half stone and have dropped 5 dress sizes. I feel fantastic." "Slimming world is a completely confidential and supportive place to lose weight," Louise says. "I have enjoyed my personal experience so much I have decided to join Caroline and the Slimming World team in Cyprus and have recently qualified as a consultant myself. I too want to show people who have struggled to lose weight before that it doesn’t have to be hard work, and it can be done in Cyprus!" Slimming World is unique because of: ► The freedom to enjoy real food ► The support of a caring consultant and the understanding of other members. ► It is different from other restrictive diets that have been doomed to failure in the past. ► No humiliation and no judgments. ► Just lots of informed support, choice and freedom. Come to our group and learn all about what we offer at Slimming World and why there is nothing else like it in Cyprus,. It is the top Slimming group in the UK at the moment. Food optimising is the heart and soul of Slimming World and it will change your life. Slim into summer with this fantastic healthy eating plan and so much more! Louise opened her group in Larnaca at the Flamingo Beach Hotel, Mackenzie on Monday 17th January. Group meetings are held every Monday at 7.30pm, and a new morning class on Wednesday at 10.00am. Slimming world now have groups in Paphos, Limassol, Larnaca, Dhekelia and Paralimni. For more details contact Louise on: 99 68 89 73 or email louise@slimmingworldcyprus.com. Lent The Fun of Green Monday By Chrissie Flint As the ten colourful days of the Carnival draw to a close on Sunday 6 March and King Carnival bids a hearty farewell for another year thoughts turn to ‘Green Monday’, which is a really popular Public Holiday that marks the beginning of the 50 day Orthodox Lenten Fast. The fast is the most important one in the Church’s calendar and is observed by as many young people as older family members. The fast begins in party mood on Green Monday and is not broken until everyone has returned home from midnight mass on Easter Saturday ( 23 April as the Orthodox and Roman Easters coincide once again). Traditionally, families gather after church to enjoy a bowl of avgolemoni soup together. Some older Cypriots refer to Green Monday as ‘Clean Monday’ for two reasons; firstly because it is the day everyone starts to ‘cleanse’ their bodies of meat products in preparation for Easter and secondly, it is traditionally the day housewives clean their houses from top to bottom before going on a family picnic in the countryside with baskets piled high with vegetarian foods. Be warned! The roads get really busy because simply everyone heads for the country and popular picnic spots are the grassy banks by dams such as the Yermasoyia and
www.larnacanews.com
Kouris, everywhere in the mountains and the Akamas peninsula and Cape Greko. In the week leading up to Green Monday, large trestle tables appear in local supermarkets, laden with all the traditional vegetarian foods - Tahini (a creamy dip made from sesame) and Houmous (another dip, made from chick-peas) and mountains of crusty bread. The spread for the Green Monday picnic also includes plenty of green salad, fruit, wine and Zivania as well as ‘bricks’ of sweet halvas (made from ground sesame); some plain, some with nuts and others rippled with carob syrup. Halvas can be bought by weight in all local delicatessens and is well worth trying. Large displays of kites also appear in shop windows as this is the popular pastime on Green Monday. There are all types of kites simple, traditionally styled models, acrobatic versions with dual controls and huge rectangular ones with really long tails that take a number of people to successfully launch them. The Lenten Fast forbids any meat or fish products or any products derived from animals such as cheese, cream eggs, etc. to be eaten and in supermarkets and restaurants permitted foods are indicated by the word ‘nistisimo’.
Fish is permitted on only two days during the fast. During Holy Week (the week leading up to Easter), olive oil is also withdrawn from the diet. Families enjoy their day in the countryside which is at its best with all the spring flowers and after lunch the children usually start the kite-flying. In some areas like in Kato Paphos by the lighthouse and on Curium Beach there are competitions and everyone can join in the fun. As Green Monday comes to an end as does all the revelry because for the next 50 days, everyone’s mood is sombre in comparison as they prepare themselves spiritually for Easter.

Troodos To Ski or Not to Ski, That is The Question! By Chrissie Flint With enthusiastic skiers currently holding their breath to see if there will be a skiing championship this year or not, for most people a day ijn the mountains can still be great fun even if there isn’t enough of the ‘fludffy white stuff’ for the pistes! True the Troodos mountains usually does get a dusting of snow at this time of the year but If this year’s championships do get cancelled, they won’t be the first – or last as snowfall isn’t always a certainty! The Cyprus Ski Federation did invest in snow making machines a few years ago but these are only good for supplementing the snow and are no good if there is no snow at all… Anyway, even if the championships are doomed and Troodos doesn’t temporarily get transformed into an Alpine-like ski resort (For the latest reports please contact Cyprus Ski Federation on 25420105 or British Forces Cyprus Ski Report hotline 25-967013) A day in the mountains is still fun and lofty Mt Olympus (1,952 metres) can be comfortably reached within 90 minutes from Larnaca - half that time if you live in Limassol! The
weather is usually bright and sunny so if there is snow be sensible and use sun tan cream otherwise it won’t just be Rudolph with a red nose! Skiing in the Troodos began in the mid 1940s when the Cyprus Ski www.larnacanews.com
Club (CSC) was founded by Cypriot and British enthusiasts. In those days you had to be determined to enjoy the sport as there were no facilities so skiers had to walk all the way up the ski run with their skis over their shoulder! In the late 1950s British soldiers from Episkopi installed two portable ski lifts where the Hera lift stands today and shortly afterwards, the Ski Club built a café at Sun Valley 2. The first international competition was held in 1969 with teams from nine different countries. In 1978, the first Cypriot ski team took part in the Alpine World Championships in Garmish Partenkrchen and two years later in the Winter Olympics in the United States. The Cyprus Ski Federation was founded in 1992 – incorporating the Cyprus Ski Club. Today, there are six different ski runs on four different slopes of 100500 metres in length. Sun Valley 1 (Aphrodite) is for beginners, Sun Valley 2 (Hermes) for more proficient skiers and North Face 1 (Dias) and North Face 2 (Hera) for the experienced skier. In recent years, lighting has been installed on North Face so skiing can continue in the evening. Two langlauf (cross country) trails have been established in Sun Valley (8km and 4km respectively) and there are also snowboarding and
tobogganing facilities. Equipment can be hired and lift passes bought from the ski store on Sun Valley 1. Ok, this is good news if there is snow, but even if there isn’t there is still plenty to do in the mountains! There are four walking trails of varying length with accompanying free information booklets available from the Cyprus Tourist Organisation (CTO). Those who enjoy exploring churches have the chance to visit the ten beautiful Byzantine painted churches that appear on the UNESCO World Heritage List and there are some wonderful villages to discover like Phini with its pottery museum and shops selling delicious Loukoumia (Cyprus Delights), Kato Platres with the Lambouri Winery where you can hear the nightingales singing (Closed Sundays) and Pano Platres with its Trout Farm and restaurant and walk up the side of the Caledonia Falls and on the northern flanks of the mountains, Kakopetria with its cobbled streets and quaint old houses in the old part and the river and watermill below…even if the skiing doesn’t happen you won’t be bored after all! LARNACANEWSLETTERS
Creative Writing Monthly Winner Nick Nipperton's Teenage Trauamas By Wayne Partirdge Tuesday October 27th I’m in a rut. I’m in love with the beautiful Jessica Hutton, I’m not sure she even knows who I am, or if she does I’ve never even had a glance, a smile, a nod; an acknowledgement of my existence. I can’t get into the school football team, my PE teacher Mr Berbick says I'm 'enthusiastic' and my 'time will come.’ I interpret that to mean ‘you’re awful but you work hard, the only way you’re going to play is if someone breaks their leg.’ So for the moment I am the number one linesman. Wednesday October 28th Progress! The beautiful Jessica Hutton asked me for a pen, I did have one but when I tried to talk I just smiled and made a noise, well more of a grunt, soon I will be able to actually say whole words to her, but at least she knows who I am. Hopefully not as the grunter, that would just be weird. Thursday October 29th People at school are starting to recognise me. Georgie Harris broke his leg playing football for the school (very unlucky for him I know), I came on and scored my first ever goal. Think I may have a broken nose where the ball hit me, took a while for me to figure out what was going on, but as I lay on the floor dazed, I could hear the army of supporters (Nick Jackson and Brain Newman) on the side-line shouting, “Nips! Nips! Nips!” Friday October 30th Woke up this morning in agony! My nose is definitely broken. My eyes are puffy, think maybe I look rugged, hopefully Jessica likes the bad boy look. Didn’t have a great day, had to sit by Josie Granger in English, forgot my book, accidentally sneezed blood and snot all over hers, much to the hysterics of everyone else. Also sounds like I’ve got a permanent cold, Jackson has started calling me “Pee-wee herman,” think I prefer “Nips.” N.B Buy a handkerchief. Saturday October 31st Went to see Georgie at hospital, took him some chocolate, a can of coke and a magazine. Thought I’d better not brag about my goal, didn’t want to rub salt in the wounds. He seems in good spirits. Thought maybe while I was there I would go and get my nose checked out. Queue at A & E was massive, decided not to. Sunday November 1st Mum lost her job. No more luxuries she says. So no more cable, internet or dinner money. www.larnacanews.com
Got to take sandwiches to school. Not getting a lunchbox, must maintain respectability. Monday November 2nd Georgie’s back at school, getting all the attention from everyone. He decided to get a bright pink cast, you would think that may lead to questions about his masculinity or sexuality, but not for Georgie, his bright pink cast is like a magnet everyone flocking to see him. I signed the cast, “Break a leg,” which I thought was quite witty, like in drama - good luck, Georgie laughed but everyone else looked at me with utter disgust, like I’d slaughtered an innocent family. Jessica Hutton signed it, “Get well soon, all my love Jessica x x x.” So there we have it, Georgie breaking his leg has enabled Jessica to profess her love, without making much of a big deal about it. My whole world has come crashing down. Why o why Jessica? I have a broken nose and I get laughed at, Georgie has a broken leg and he gets love. I wish I broke my leg or something equally cool, and I actually try, but intentionally walking into a pot hole doesn’t have the same effect, so instead I go home muddy and cold, and the only thing that is aching is my face, and my heart. Tuesday November 3rd Finally got a doctors appointment, took day off school. It’s not broke just severely bruised. I ask if I can play on Thursday, and the answer is yes. I try and get a doctor’s note so I don’t have to go to school because I am love sick; the doctor declines. Honestly I don’t know how these doctors are so well paid, and take so many years of training. I consider getting a paper round so I can go private. Decide against it, can’t let it compromise my school work. Wednesday November 4th I miss one day at school and everything changes. There’s a party at Josie Granger’s on Friday. Her parents are away. Maybe this is my time to shine with Jessica Hutton. Went to the shop at lunchtime, Jackson wouldn’t give me a toffee worther, so I smashed him in the face with a custard cream, he then gave me a toffee worther. Whoever said violence wasn’t the answer obviously wasn’t talking about getting a sweet from Jackson. Thank you for your entrance into the Larnaca News Creative Writing competition Wayne, if you win the competition then people will get to read much more of these interestingly funny Teenage Traumas. If you're reading this and would like your own writing to be put into the Creative Writing competition, please email your 700-800 word piece to editor@larnacanews.com

Dear Tess, Last year I made the difficult decision to put my mother into a care home after she had been living with me for some considerable time (I gave up my high profile career in design to look after her). However my husband was diagnosed with Cancer a few months ago. I realised I couldn't look after everyone. I knew my mum needed better care than I could give her so I made the difficult decision to place her in a care home. My husband is well now and my mum is content within her new home. The issue for me now is I don't know what to do with myself. I have lost so much confidence. I know I need to find something but I just don't know where to start to find it. You have selflessly given your love, time and devotion to the people you love and you have made immense sacrifices as a result. After so long caring for your mum, husband and children it's no surprise that the edges of where you end and where they begin have become blurred. The line between caring and meeting our own need to be needed is

a thin one. Whether we are looking after elderly relatives, sick partners or children we always need to be mindful of meeting our own needs and looking after ourselves. I think that now your life is one against your own you are feeling guilty. You are now having to focus upon yourself but you must overcome these guilty feelings. It's easier said than done I know but remind yourself of how much you have given your husband and mother. I am sure you continue to give of yourself to your family. It's going to take time to carve out a new life for yourself. Looking for work is tough - it's not easy out there no wonder your confidence has been knocked. I suggest you focus on you for a while. Motoring Madness Travel to the Future
The 81st Geneva International Motor Show will take place from March 3-13 2011, presenting an extensive show of automotive technology and design. Major manufacturers, renowned bodywork designers, and top preparation specialists will be dazzling visitors with nearly 170 World and European Premieres, with the "green" trend continuing with more than 40 premieres utilising alternative and ecological technologies. One car that will be highlighted at the Motor Show is the Forspeed Smart, with its image of zero emissions, fun driving and cool design. So what's so cool about it? Easy. This two seater delight has no roof or side windows and where you would usually expect to have a front windscreen, a low wind deflector has taken its place! The concept vehicle gives us an inkling of what future generations of cars could be like. What's more, this little gem can do 0 - 60 km/h in
www.larnacanews.com
LARNACANEWSMOTORS
just 5.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 120 km/h using a 30 kW magneto-electric engine installed in the rear of the car. And there's even more! A button in the centre console provides an immediate short boost of 5 kW of power to be used, for example, when overtaking on those long highways. That sounds like a lot for such a small electric car, but don't be fooled. This lightning bolt can do 135 kilometres on a fully charged battery, requiring a recharge of only 45 minutes to get it back from 0% - 80% charge. The extras just keep on coming too...The wind deflector has photovoltaic cells that send solar power to the electrical system of the car lengthening the battery life of electric powered extras such as the smartphone that controls navigation and communication; a nifty little gadget that even has an app that can direct you back to your parked car in case you ever forget where you left it!! With so many more like vehicles and designs on show it's no wonder the Geneva International Motor show is recognised as one of the "Top 5" international motor shows in the world.

Introduction To Larnaca Football Clubs February's League Results by George Kasparis Great only 4 games left and the final places in the HOME SCORE league will be decided...At the end of a regular season when every team has played each other AEK twice both home and away, the team with the most Apop 0-0 points are hailed the champions. You would think so but no not quite. Cyprus has AEK 1-2 decided to be the only country in UEFA to implement its own system for deciding its champions and Olympiakos 2-3 relegations. AEK 0-0 At the end of the season the 4 teams at the top will play in play offs against each other home and away. ERMIS Only after these games are completed will there be a champion. It’s not complicated...the thing to Ermis 3-0 remember is that all 4 teams carry over their points AEP 3-1 totals from the league so it’s important to gain as many points from the league as possible to gain Ermis 0-0 the advantage in the play offs. If you really can’t get Apollon 1-1 your head around it give me a call and I’ll be happy to talk it through with you. ALKI While writing this article I got to thinking about why they would go to the trouble of extra matches Alki 2-2 and extending the season and then the penny Doxa 3-0 dropped….MONEY...I can only assume that big teams equals big gate receipts. Just think about it... Apop 1-2 all the big teams playing each other at the end of the season. Wonderful. Wouldn't that be great in the Alki 2-1 English Premier League. Oh and before I forget, they do exactly the same for the relegation places' 4 bottom teams in play offs. So how did our Larnaca Boys do over the last 4 games. Alki came out best with a massive 7 points, AEK and Ermis both with 5 points. As you can see from the league standings AEK are still hanging in one of those precious top 4 places with Alki and Ermis hovering dangerously near the bottom. Finally Cyprus cup news. There are just 8 teams left. Both AEK and ALKI are still there so fingers crossed we get at least 1 Larnaca team in the final. I'm thinking of doing a report on my local team next month. Digenis Oroklini who play in the 3rd division. I have gone to see them a few times this season at our local stadium and boy do they need our support.

NEW RELEASES Film News Competitions possibly go wrong.
Have you been looking for a new family film to make you laugh from start to finish? What better way than with an animated film starring none other than the hilarious Pirates of the Caribbean star, Johnny Depp as Rango himself. And from Director of the Pirates of the Caribbean, Gore Verbinski, how can you
by Alex Andreou
Rango is a hearty chameleon who sees himself as a swashbuckling hero. When he finds himself flung out of his owner's car and into a desert, you follow him along his travels as he meets new, interesting and funny characters. Rango makes his way to the desert town of Dirt where, after a hilarious action sequence, he becomes the appointed Sheriff of Dirt. However, he soon finds that the town is overrun by bandits and something is happening to the towns most precious resource, water. As newly appointed sheriff of Dirt, it is Rango's job to find out what's going on, and find out his own identity at the same time. Johnny Depp's voice work is fantastic as usual and Rango actually has quite a depth to his character that you find as the plot progresses. Joined by memorable characters voiced by Isla Fischer, Bill Nighy, Ray Winstone and Timothy Olyphant this film will keep you intrigued and laughing all the way to the end. The animation itself is stunning and when you combine that with a great list of voice actors and a real "Old Western" style plot, Rango is definitely a film to watch for a family day out at the Cinema. Showing at Cinemas islandwide in March. Don't Miss Out!

Baby's Benediction As I hold you in my arms And shallow-cup your dreams, I weave for you Beguiling moons When lovers walk abroad. I hang the trees with Silver threads where Fairy spiders spin; The music of the stratosphere Enhymed in perfect chords, Sweet incense of a thousand plants Distillate of the Gods, Not cloth of gold, but lightest Down, about your body swathed; The floating rainbows Prism-trace their hues About your hair. Have Your Say by The Editor Dear Editor, I would just like to thank you for the article last month on ways of beating the petrol rise. I tried putting air in my tyres before I filled up the tank this week as they were a bit flat. Anyway I've been driving just under 3 days with €20 petrol and it ran out today. That's a day longer than I used to get doing exactly the same journeys and just from keeping the right amount of air in my tyres! Really thanks a lot, it won't save me thousands of euros, but every little helps at the moment that's for sure! Also I'd like to point out something that I've noticed over the past year. Certain petrol stations seem to give me more petrol for the same money than others, for example if I put €20 euros in one petrol station it always
lasts longer than when I put €20 in a different one. Always. And I don't understand why unless the petrol stations are doing something fishy. There's one in particular that always lasts less than when I fill up at all the other petrol stations, but I won't name it just now... Yours, -Elena, Larnaca Hi Elena, It's good to hear that our articles help our readers, I too have been following those tips and I'm getting much more out of my petrol too. As for the petrol station scenario, I have heard a few people say they prefer certain petrol stations over others, though not necessarily for the particular reason you are giving. It would be nice if someone reading this who has had or is having
the same experience can write in and let us know, as this would be worrisome if true. -The Editor

RIDDLES

Question: What happens when you throw a yellow rock into a purple stream? Answer: A Splash!!! Haha, now here’s the real riddle for the month: Question: You saw me where I never was and where I could not be. And yet within that very place, my face you often see. What am I?
Answer: Your Reflection
FASCINATING FACTS ► Stephen Baldwin worked in a pizza parlor, Jean-Claude Van Damme delivered pizzas, Bill Murray was a pizza maker, Madonna worked at Dunkin’ Donuts. Julia Roberts worked in an ice cream parlor, Queen Latifah worked at Burger King, Andie McDowell worked at McDonalds, as did Quintin Tarentino, Jennifer Aniston worked as a waitress in a burger cafe. There’s hope for all of us!
JOKES ► Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson go on a camping trip, set up their tent, and fall asleep. Some hours later, Holmes wakes his faithful friend. 'Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see.' Watson replies, 'I see millions of stars.' 'What does that tell you?' Watson ponders for a minute.' Astronomically speaking, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, it tells me that Saturn is in Leo. Time wise, it appears to be approximately a quarter past three. Theologically, it's evident the Lord is all-powerful and we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically, it seems we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. What does it tell you? Holmes is silent for a moment, then speaks. 'Watson, you idiot, someone has stolen our tent.' ► A policeman spotted a jay walker who wasn’t having much luck in crossing the road and decided to challenge him, 'Why are you trying to cross here when there's a zebra crossing only 20 metres away?' 'Well,' replied the jay walker, 'I hope it's having better luck than me.'
FUNNY QUOTES ► "I owe a lot to my parents, especially my mother and father." - Greg Norman, Golfer ► "That scoundrel deserves to be kicked to death by a jackass, and I'm just the one to do it."- A congressional candidate in Texas ► "I've never driven a horse before" - Tara Reid www.larnacanews.com
