Refurbisment of a
house atPlomari
traditional
(Lesvos) The main pattern that we followed in the restoration of this stone building was the main reinforcement of the skeleton. We installed a casing of strongly reinforced mortar (otherwise called the mantle), as the main reinforcement process. Depending on the image of the stone building, an additional reinforcing frame was required to decongest the existing old walls. In our case, the stone walls were in good structural condition. In addition, we were given the opportunity to do clean grouting on at least the visible walls. The next step concerns the perimetrical concrete zoning of the roof. The stone building functions as a single structural whole, therefore we have a constant flow of loads from our roof to the ground. Usually, old stone buildings require a roof replacement, as in our case where we proceeded with the construction of a new tiled roof. In addition, on the ground floor of the house, two new windows were opened with access to the garden, and a large opening was created that connects the two large areas of the house. For the end we leſt the intermediate structural elements, these are the floors made of wood, which were preserved and reinforced. Aſter we proceeded with the work of designing the interiors with plasterboard, where a large master bedroom was created, in place of two smaller rooms that prevented the space from being airy. Finally, we proceeded to paint, externally and internally. The whole restoration lasted a year and is still considered a work in progress.

technique, which up-cycles plastic bottles by filling them with compressed earth, in order to be used as bricks in the structural body of the building. Earth, mixed with sand and gravel in different proportions, was used for the flooring and the plaster. Other building parts [window frames, pillars, beams and rafters] were constructed with wood.
The project ‘A Handmade School for Rural Ghana’ was initiated in 2016, after the distinction of the design entry of L. Lioupi and P. Stergiopoulou in the 4th International Earth Architecture Competition. The competition regarded the design of a classroom for a vocational skills centre in the small village of Sang, in the northern region of Ghana. This vocational centre would help young people in the area, who cannot have access to higher education, aquire technical knowledge and skills for employment.
Eventually, ‘Cuelba classroom’, named after the technique of bottle-earth bricks (‘cuelba’ means bottle in the local dialect), built out of collective work with the local community, is now ready, and may hopefully serve the needs of the local young population of Sang.
For the realization of the project a team of 40 volunteers and interns was assembled, which, with the aid of several supporting groups, launched a promotion and fundraising campaign to raise the necessary funds for the construction of the classroom. The collective construction process took place in Sang in the summer of 2017 for three and a half months. With the collaboration of the local community, local craftsmen and builders, the 60 square feet classroom was finalized on October, as a result of intensive and systematic hand-work. In every stage of the construction, the objective is to maintain a low-cost and eco-friendly approach, using local materials [earth extracted from the site and redwood from the area] and applying simple, as well as innovative, building techniques. One of the most important methods used is the bottle-brick

The subject of the research deals with the meaning of the collector as a social subject, and tries to investigate the causes of recommending one collection. Firstly some information about the collection as a historical and sociopolitical treat. Highlights the ways in which the collection is introduced to society as indicating potential and social model with proving economic prosperity. These properties are those that will create the historical museums through merging. Then, it continues by analyzing the notion of property, the psychology of the subject-collector in relations with itself but also as social status. The concept of finding one self through objects link to the subject an operative force and firing primary cause of passion for the creation of a collection. Passion creates chaos in the subconscious of the subject, so as affection by any conntinuous condition of the subject with objects or persons. It analyzes the subject’s sexuality as proper treat. The primary factor in the collection is the force exerted by the object and its connection to social existence. The materiality affects the personality and the personality of the formation of the collection. Collection forms itself and is being created through memories. Then it examines the object as psychoanalytic search method and explanation. The relationship of time and an object and the relationship of the object with art fill the significance analysis of the object as a means of shaping the contemporary sociopolitical everyday. The end of each collection is the death of the collector. Death is the last priority analysis of the process of collection. Dipoles like death-life ,mortality- immortality, memory-oblivion complement my research. for the whole booklet: https://issuu.com/alexandrosvounatsos/docs/ for more photos: https://www.behance.net/gallery/47654973/Collecting
