Movie ad Campaigns The breif is for us to build a big advetising campaign for the upcoming film independence day 2, They want a campaign that keeps to the theme of the film but reaches out to audiences of all ages. I’ve decided to look at 11 movies which used these idea’s ranging from websites with hidden meanings to interactive games. Or just live stunts in the public eye. Huge advertising campaigns I feel are the most effective forms of communication with audiences of all ages. Especially with the internet being what it is today. So the next 11 pages will lable different types of films which I feel had great advertising campaigns along with my notes on what to take inspiration from.

The Hunger games For the Hunger Games advertisement campaign , They decided to develop a interactive fan website for there new movie, The website included small movies from the cast and an Interactive mini game. This type of advertisisng campaign is extrememely effective in a drip feed affect. The Idea of a drip feed is to give the customers what they want in small portions over a long period of time which hint to the final thing. Customers also enjoy an interactive platform for there favourite films. It brings advertisement for the film and gives hardcore fans a look into there world. Movies that do not use interactive advertising campaigns normally
This is one of the peices that they did for the final website, Customers of all ages could design a character or avatar which would be thrown into this open virtual world, where you had to surive very similar to the Hunger Games. Of course it was only an online pc game so we weren’t expecting graphical wonders, but its something for the kids to play on . And Im sure the parents must have noticed and taken them to see it. Its all about how you display the project.
How was it recieved ? The actual final advertisement campaign was recieved really well kids loved the interactive site and it gave them a platform to play games of there favoourite films. For parents this was a lot safer than having them run mad around the internet with no thought on what they were watching and if it was safe or not. It was a winner for everyone, because it catered to the masses, It was safe for children and it was also helping advertise this movie to people who may have never seen it before.
Men In Black 3 Banners and Websites Men In black 3 developed a movie campaign to explain that aliens do exist and that he has proof. it was a active site which he posted daily updates on what he felt aliens were like. He developed a large following and eventually developed a fan club, This was then opened to the public as advertsising campaign for Men in black 3. This then developed a lot of flack as people actyually beleived it, But it was extremely effective and bringing in the public eye. As people actually felt like it was something interesting to follow. They also developed a poster campaign called MIB 3 the suits are real. and underneath they would have call this number. If you did this then you would get a answer phone message which promoted the film. I am taking a lot of inspirtation from this project in to my final peice. I have started devloping my own posters for the new independence day film. Following sentence extracted from (Imediaconnection. com) The blogger “bugeyes” is supposedly a no-name kid from a no-name town in the middle of nowhere. This likable 14-year-old student likes computer science and researching extraterrestrials, so has gathered information on his blog to prove that aliens and “the men in black suits” are real. (See his clip of Arianna Huffington denying that she’s an alien.) This clever campaign from Sony quickly generated over 129 thousand Facebook likes, and ended in a feel-good vlog where bugeyes is recruited to join the team he idolizes.
Chronicle Flying people soaring around NYC Chronicle advertsed they’re new film by doing a active stunt around New York City. They started a campaign which involved people flying through the city. This attracted the attention of the media and also the people who live in and around the city. For this they took a different approach to the two other films ive looked at. This was a flash event instead of feeding in a slow and steady message through either advertsement or poster creation. This one hits quick and fast and dissapears as quickly. This helps the film make a good lasting impression. I find this idea nteresting and I want to incorportate one of my ideas to be like this. Obviously by myself this would not be possible but with the right rescources I could take this idea and Incorporate it. (Quote taken from chornical Ad campaign on Imedia Connect) If you were in New York City this January and thought you saw people flying overhead, you would’t be crazy. The low-budget superhero movie “Chronicle” used the surreal stunt to generate viral chatter in the weeks leading up to the movie’s debut. The “flying people” were actually human-shaped remote-control planes being manipulated by team members on the ground. Fox partnered with ad firm Thinkmodo (the group behind the iPad Head Girl) to generate this clever marketing campaign. A video of the stunt has over 8 million views on YouTube, and the flyers were reported on by the Today Show, Early Today, Bloomberg
Simpsons Movie Real life Kwik-E- Mart For the simpsos movie opening they developed one of the most iconic parts of the franchise into a real life shop. They opened a quick- E- Mart in califronia and one in universal studios in Orlando, The idea for this was to attract new and old fans of the show to see the store and spend some money. This atracted the attention of the media and developed a world wide support for the film. and even though the film wasnt very good, Having this generated more popularity for the film.
When “The Simpsons Movie” came out in 2007, the marketing team at Fox developed some uniquely creative ideas to stimulate the already excited fan base. Ideas included an integrated campaign that let fans create their own Simpson’s-style avatar, play the wrecking ball game on the movie website and explore digital Springfield, enter a contest to be in a Simpson’s episode or have their hometown host the movie’s premier. But the most visually-interesting part of the campaign was when 7-Elevens around the country were transformed into KwikE-Marts. Stores were given Kwik-E-Mart branding and products, including Buzz Cola Squishees and pink-frosted donuts
Ted Interactive photos and tweets. Before the film Ted came out they developed this very clever way of attracting people to the film. They used the latest apps such as twitter and snapchat to pretend that ted was a actual person talking about his life. They used snapchat to post videos of him doing things and then twitter to comment on how his day is going and how he feels about political situations plus gossip from celebritys. The aim of this was to show ted of as being another person more than just a character in a tv show. They wanted him to become beloved so that when he told all his fans to go and watch his new film they would.
How was it recieved ? Well to this day Ted is still tweeting, and his tweets are still wildly known. They are funny and gained the interest of many tweeters of a young age. It is a very clever idea to use an app such as twitter to get your message across. Apps such as twitter develop a large following very quickly and they are a cheap way for companies to get there essage out.
Billboard Campaigns District 9, Developed an advertising campaign which basically devloped posters for the segregation of difference races. They then plastered them all over billboard and bus stops. This idea will be used heavily in my final peice Design. I like how it is developed for every single part of human life and it fits in so well.
More Campaigns
The art of Graffiti Graffiti even though it has become more widely accepted, In some places it is still considered vandalism and is frowned upon. For my project I want to make it look like vandalism and I want it to be rejected. It fits well into what I want to do. My idea is to develop billboard designs of real life commercials and then vandalise them. This will provide for a realistic look of a actual warning to earth. I will be looking at different graffiti artists to increase my knowledge of how it is done. And what style I can take. I will not be looking at huge works of art because I want to use the theme of a vandal, Or someone who is doing it to prove a message rather than a work of art.
Graffiti Kings Graffiti Kings is a company of Graffiti atists who hire themselves out to anyone who needs them. They are owned by worldwide renowned artist Darren Cullen. They are based in London and work for local schools, Mums and Dads, They say that no job is to big or to small. They make up some of the best graffiti artists in the world and work for the local community. The talents of this company date back to 1983 and they try hard to stay on top of the industry and continue to deliver upstanding work. When I looked at there work i was instanly blown away by the level of detail especially for using spray cans. This kind of work is fantastic and the level they go to develop this is astonishing. I have selected some of my favourite to place on this page.
Watch Dogs App In order to develop a more susbstantial research document. I decided to develop an application for my final peice. In order to properly develop an Idea of how an app work and looks. I researched into how some other apps are developed in order to meet the standard which has been set for the product. Most apps are developed independently from small companies trying to make a name for themeselves. However in a lot of cases the apps are developed for a film or movie to advertiseand promote the original product. This is a effective because of how popular apps have become and the demographic they reach. The app from the pictures on the left is from the game called Watch Dogs. This app was developed to go along with the game, It let the player link in with the app and play minigames in order to support there online character. This is one example of many apps out there that develop for the same reasons.
