The golden ratio in conjunction with Gestalt Principles define relationships between the architecture and interiors. This proportion has been tied to harmony and balance through creating spaces that are functional and have an equilibrium. Spring 2020

Communauté Communauté is a shared housing complex in France for people and their dogs experiencing social isolation. The design strategy of architecture d’origine controlee takes advantage of the local environment and community to drive material selection, design, and construction techniques. Passivhaus design strategies turn the independent elements of the site become a single, well-articulated system. Human-centric design gives residents value to their stay in the community and helps connect them with other residents. HAPPY HOMES FRANCE COMPETITION INTD 3555 / REBECCA BOLES

Eden Retail Store Eden’s brick and mortar location sells cleaning products for a sustainable lifestyle. Eden prioritizes social, environmental, and community well-being over everything else. Eden’s store design features framed spaces that elegantly show circulation through delicate, clean lines. As a tree can frame a landscape, Eden frames the natural products within the store to promote the natural composition of their products. Sophistication and freshness is amplified through the use of French style interiors, incorporating simple natural finishes and sustainably sourced materials.

Bank of America The design for the UTA Bank of America location was inspired by a plant cell to create an engaging, nature-inspired environment offering high-tech solutions in a variety of spatial arrangements. The design was inspired by nature around the site and Bank of America’s sustainability initiative. That idea was taken a step further with the exploration of plant cells. A plant cell was then dissected and separated into different parts based on function. These separate functions became the rooms within the bank, and thus the floor plan.

Fall 2019

Retail Fixture This project included making a package design and a display fixture to feature Everlane’s Tread shoes. The packaging consisted of reclaimed wood that can be used over and over again. This is aligned with the Everlane’s transparency values. The display fixture integrated the packaging by allowing the boxes to become the shelves and slide in and out of the wall.

Elevator Intervention

Spring 2018

Elevator Intervention The Elevator Intervention began with an existing dance complex. As a studio, we had to understand the building. We started with blurry and incorrect plans and sections and worked to make sense of the building. The challenge was to take the existing architecture and interrupt it with an elevator. These adjustments could not include eliminating anything or reducing room sizes less than 80%. The design solution intertwines the stairs and elevator to create one element. The concept was to make the stairs dance around the elevator 538

in an elaborate performance.

Spring 2018

Hidden Room This project is composed of 5 rooms, one which seems to be hidden from the other four. The program requires providing a means of access to the hidden room while controlling the degree to which the room becomes vulnerable to disclosure. Challenges in the program were that the hidden room had to remain 10% of the whole, there had to be two means of access to the hidden room (one interior and one exterior), and each of the four rooms needed to be accessible from two other rooms not including the hidden room.

Spring 2020

Togetherness The “Togetherness” exhibition features Rani Ban’s most inspiring works. The exhibit focuses on human connections that bring communities together and drive for change. The anchor piece for the exhibit is a playful screen print which shows figures dancing and floating around freely. This captures Rani’s approach to her free flowing designs. For this project, a logo, typeface, iconography, and signage system were created to be displayed within the museum.

Flow Lighting Light flows gently, guiding the viewer, as if following a river of literature. As one gets deeper into the space, the ceiling light coves define spaces to gather below the ambiance. Expressive curvilinear elements on the walls offer the soft suggestion of circulation, subtle touches of color emphasize important zones, create hierarchy, and personality within each room to define different functions and helps add to the creative productivity.

The excercise pushed the class to explore with creating glass and mullion structures using curtainwalls. This space was conceptualized through analyzing and diagraming the veins in a leaf, which resulting in the curvature of the walls that guides the viewer through the space. The curtainwalls serve as places where plants are displayed within the glass. Project B
