1. Knowledge hub Place: Holesovice, Prague Year: 2018 Subject: Architecture Design 6 Studio: Jaroslav Wertig & David Neuhausl

The project is located in the centre of lower Holešovice on the cross of the streets U Uranie and Komunardů. It is an unbuilt plot, which due its size and location can have a big influence on the urban fabric of Holesovice. The area right now can be understood as developing, changing and growing, that is why it is really important which mood and direction new architecture would bring there. The final design of the complex is respecting its urban context by having street facades following urban grid and defining corner, which is facing Ortenovo square. Meanwhile, courtyard space is composed out of volumes, which consist out of terraces, stairs and bridges. The feeling inside of the courtyard corresponds with building program and represents life of the complex. In addition to that, it enables accessibility and permeability for the people living around or walking by. The complex is divided into four interconnected parts, which have different programs but the same idea behind. The four programs are: “Research”, which is a library – a place where people can get inspired and research for their projects, “Discussion hub“ - a space in which they can learn from others, present their projects, solve common problems and also a place for community to meet and for young people to enjoy themselves. The “Production hub” is filled with laboratories, workshops and studios for different fields. Last but not the least, the sports center, which has different sports directions for students to develop not only mentally, but also physically. The buildings are connected between each other by physical and visual bridges which make it possible to move from one space to another without actually exiting the building and also supporting the idea that it’s all one complex and all spheres are connected between each other. 4

The community was chosen as the main topic and aim of the project. Therefore, the building was designed to support its life in the city. “Knowledge hub would be a space for youth. A space which would support their dreams and encourage realizing them and which, on the other hand, does not forget about the other generations. The education centre includes different fields like arts, science, humanities. It would provide facilities, which can’t usually be found in schools and also create a platform to network and learn from others. This gives a base for a healthy community, where youth feel safe to be themselves and would shape their values in life but with the idea of meeting and respecting the elderly. 7

[1,3] The whole pavilion works like a labyrinth made out of mirrors, which activates when people are coming to it and it directs them to different “pockets of destination“ by implemented programs. Those pockets are different views or as we call them, corner of infinity created by the pavilion. The Pavilion has 3 different sizes of components and 3 types of clusters. Each has at least 8 different vectors of movement programmed into it, which

4. FALLING SHELTER

Place: Přístav 18600, Karlin, Prague 8 Year: 2015 Subject: Architecture Design 1 Studio: Jan Schindler & Elan Fessler

The project brief was to design a temporary dwelling for 2 adults (and max. 2 kids) which would be located within the recreational area of Přístav 18600, near the edge of Vltava river. The maximum volume is 33m3. It must be accessible for pedestrians and can be accessible for bicycles. The concept is based on the idea of creating space from a relationship between light, ground and abstract form, which is the intersection between spatial form and body. The shape of the shelter was derived using this methodology, using the shadow of the cube. The shape of the building is giving a feeling of a non-static and falling structure. The idea of the shadows was saved not only in the shaping but in exterior and interior as well. This is shown in the contrast feeling of different time periods during the day: lit volumes inside and shadows in the semi-public outside at the day time and the opposite counts for the night time.

5. THE CONNECTION Place: Stvanice Island, Prague Year: 2015 Subject: Architecture Design 1 Team: Alex Yeloyeva, Marie Meland, Karlo Lauc Studio: Jan Schindler & Elan Fessler

For the main design, we chose a cylindrical surface with a circle in its cross section. The circle is one of the most natural shapes and it makes a very specifi c circulation of the space. To get to the other “circles” which are located further away from the island, the people need to pass the closer ones. This drives people to get closer to each other and pushes them to communicate and make “contact”. Another thing which was important for our team was to create the installation in the way so it doesn’t disturb the view and feeling of nature. That is why it’s so light, fl at and close

6. WORKS FROM FINAL YEAR OF ART SCHOOL

Place: Kharkov, Ukraine Year: 2013-2014

“Architecture“ (to the right on this page) A2 paper, rapidograph, gouache, pastel, technique overlapping This work was done during my high school when researching work on “Ecology in Architecture“ and my experiments in art school with overlapping techniques. It represents my fi rst abstract image of the architecture world. “Monument of life“ (to the right on the next page) 90х90 cm, paper, gouache, technique overlapping This work represents a monument to the path of life: its beginning, the end and the most important - life road between these two points.. “Fonts and Letters“ (to the left on the next page) 90х90 cm, paper, gouache In the art school, I was assigned to paint the interior, which will remind the person something. At that time I was fascinated by reading books about fonts and words, so I wanted to create space which would be made just out of letters and imagine how would it look if everything around us would speak for itself.

7. Woodcarving with intarsia of soil Size: 80x20cm Year: 2014 Material: wood, soil, mechanical and hand carving

This carving was created for my final year at art school as an decorative object. My dad taught me how to carve wood and technology to insert one material into another. The process was very unique and enjoyable for me. While I was carving the wood I felt the material and unification with it. I worked with a mechanical chisel and carved it by hand as well.

During the semester we were participating in different school activities and developing the community to encourage students to be more active in improving the school together. Above you can see a variety of posters which we hung around the university and on social networks as a fun “motivation“ for students to participate in our research connected to the current Architecture Design studios, and ways how the tutors can develop them. In our questionnaires there was an increase of 40% more people than on usual school evaluation forms. Next step was presenting the results on the monthly based school assembly in front of tutors, office, and students. All our researches are open and everyone can check results of questionnaires on links from school facebook page, ARCHIP IS and on our newly build web-site.
