The release of the Egyptians occurred after mediation led by Abdul Latif al-Sayeed, tribal leader of the People’s Committees in Abyan. The website of the Ministry of Defense quoted the Egyptian ambassador to Yemen Ashraf Aql, who said that tribal mediation succeeded in releasing both Dr. Nasser Khalaf, the Deputy Executive Director of the al-Wahda cement plant in Abyan and Hanafi Hijazi, director of the factory quarry. The source noted that the faltering of the periodic meeting of the government caused disruption of many interests of citizens and government ministries and institutions whose reports are discussed at these meetings, noting security chaos and the deterioration of public life which models many areas of the provinces of the Republic. The regular meeting takes place for the Yemeni government on Tuesday of each week, but it did not take place for nearly a month due to the traveling of the Prime Minister to Jordan on

BEHANCE YEMEN UNITES CREATIVE YEMENIS

TWO PRESENTERS AT THE EVENT SHARING HIS IDEAS WITH THE FRESH TALENTS.

BY SHEZAAN SYED

Behance Yemen- A meeting of creative minds organized by One Graphics held its first ever event in Sana’a on May 16 2013 at the Lebanese International University inviting over 250 talented and creative students and representatives from various divisions of businesses in Yemen. The organizers One Graphics aimed at gathering creative professionals from all over Yemen to come

join them at this event and share their experiences and ideas.

The event coordinator Mohammed Mubarak said that this event was the first of its kind to take place in Sana’a. “It is a global event which takes place across various countries including the Arab world. It started with the idea of a website which gave opportunities to the creative minds to share their work and projects on the website. We then decided to go for a

gathering or create small events using the power of creative minds in the region and other cities to bring people from this field closer together to share ideas. Behance holds events across 1000 cities and Sana’a will hold the first of its kind in Yemen which will gather the most experienced and talented individuals from various regions of Yemen. Also the creative minds and talents will have the opportunity to share ideas and socialize and meet with people with

visions just like them and passion to grow. The event features presentations and workshop seminars. Also the work from the presenters such as Ziryab al Ghabri, Ibrahim Saleh, Mahdi Karama Joban, Abdulrahm H. Jaber and Salwa Eliryani will be up on display”, said Mubarak. He also added that their work will be on display where they will discuss their concepts and experience. “ We want the young talents to get exposure to the outside world. Up to 250 attendees will be visiting. It is not a short term event it will go a long way. At the seminar the presenters will take questions. The young talents are at the verge of bagging a job or a contract for business owners who will also be attending the event. The young talents can take advantage of the socializing opportunity to meet and express their ideas and work to the others and the business owners. Also for the business owners who are looking for fresh young talent this would be the perfect spot to pick them in their company or start a small project. This is basically our aim in introducing Behance to Yemen. Basically it will enhance the ideas and create new opportunities in the Yemeni market and get the market to develop and mature. We have also invited people with medium or little experience to attend so that they can gain help with their future plans and enhance their ideas. We are having visitors like Xerox and Natco attending the event so hopefully they can benefit too out of this program. One graphics is exposed to similar events across the globe and they wanted to expose this to Yemen too”, he added.

in Sana’a, al Kahily introduced them an excellent and extensive recreational program that he had already prepared for them to identify the most possible number of landmarks of Sana’a. When the one-day visit was over, the four Yemeni-Emirati young men couldn’t help pleading with al Kahily to have more extra days. They asked for another three days. During the additional days the young people came to know several attractions in the city of Sana’a and nearby areas. These extra days were enough to change their presumed impressions of their mother country as a whole. After they discovered that their native soil is a “Paradise”, they regretted having such presumed impressions. “Yemen is an amazing country with abundant landmarks and highlights, which really out-

shine more than those in the highly tourism-based countries,” they said. The four Yemeni-Emirati young men expressed their gratitude for the amiable contributions of al Kahily, They hailed him “an epitome of Yemen’s enthusiastic Youth.” They asked al-Kuhali to prepare for upcoming programs in order to visit other landmarks across Yemen, stressing that they will visit Yemen during every time off they will have.

The enthusiastic young man and homeland-loving Hassan Ali al Kahily of Fly Dubai have made great efforts to persuade the four Yemeni-Emirati young men to visit Yemen. After a period of swaying negotiations, an agreement was reached ultimately to visit Sana’a and for one day only, though they described it as “an adventure.” By the time of their arrival

YEMENI WOMEN HORSEBACK RIDERS BREAK THE RECORD BY HESHAM AL KIBSI

The Yemeni Equestrian Federation recorded a historic achievement after the number of female horseback riders reached one hundred and twenty in one batches, which is a record number. This is the first time that Yemeni females snatch the horseback rid-

ing figures out of the hands of men who are busy with politics. Five years ago, Sheikha Hind alShayef was the only female jockey in Yemen. After that, the well-known media female figure, Ahlam al-Sayaghi became a Jockey. But during the years of 2012-2013, the number of female jockeys in Yemen in-

creased to approximately 150. The most amazing thing about it is that among these female, about 12 have Master’s and Ph.D. degrees. One of them is a doctor in the medical field from the province of Marib, and the others are professors at the universities of Sana’a,Taiz and Hodeidah!

province claimed responsibility for the abduction of the Swiss Red Cross employee working for the Red Cross mission in Yemen. The tribe demanded the release of one its fellow tribesmen detained six years ago in order to release the Swiss national. On Tuesday, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced that three of the organization’s workers were kidnapped in southern Yemen. ICRC spokesperson told the Swiss News Agency (SDA) that talks were being held with the armed group to secure their release; he did not reveal the nationalities of the hostages. The ICRC staff members were stopped by armed men at around 11 a.m. local time on 13 May near Ja’ar. They were in an ICRCmarked vehicle on their way back to the delegation from a field trip. This kidnapping came one week after the abduction of two Egyptian experts working in a cement factory in the region by the same tribe. The kidnapping also came after just a

few days of the release of two Yemeni doctors working for the Red Cross, after a mediation effort by the commander of the commander of Popular Committees in Abyan, Abdul alLateef al-Sayed, with the Maraqeshah tribes which abducted them days ago. Tribal sources said that the kidnappers were demanding the release of one of their fellow tribesmen detained in al-Mansoura penitentiary in Aden. The man was arrested six years ago on the backdrop of a murder charge that has not been proven as of yet and has not been presented to the court to decide on the case. The sources accused officials and influential figures in the state of being behind his arrest, trial stall and delay of his release. According to tribal sources, the tribes issued a statement where they claimed responsibility for the abduction of the two Egyptian experts, and demanded the release of their fellow incarcerated tribesman. The sources said that a copy of the statement was delivered to each of the Governor of Abyan, security manager, and Faisal Rajab commander of the 119th Brigade in the area, and the commander of the Popular Committees Abdul Lateef al-Sayyid.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) confirmed the kidnapping of the three Red Cross staff members including two foreigners, a Swiss and a Kenyan national along with a Yemeni. The MoI stated that they were kidnapped by al-Maraqeshah tribesmen as they were on their way back to the District of Ja’ar. The MoI explained that the three abductees were Daniel, a Swiss citizen. a Kenyan national named Abdullah Mohammed Saeed and the third was a Yemeni national named Jamal. “The three persons were granted permission to the area of Ja’ar only, but they went out of their path and visited the Atiyah fort and al-Barq Mountain and met, during their visit to those areas, with sheikhs from Aal Obad al-Maraqeshah and Sheikhs of the fort area. When they were on their way back from the field visit, they were intercepted and detained by armed tribesmen from alMaraqeshah tribe before their arrival to Ja’ar. “ Read a statement by the MoI. According to the Security Media Center of the MoI, security forces in Abyan province had carried out ongoing procedures for the release of the staff of the Red Cross (ICRC). Intel at that time suggested that they were held at al-Barq Mountain about 12 kilome-

ters north of the city of Ja’ar. The spokeswoman of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Dibeh Fakhr, confirmed that the hostages told the Red Cross that they were in good condition.

Aql said he was in contact with the kidnapped Egyptians after their release and reassures that they are in good health and were treated well by their captors.

The country has seen frequent kidnappings targeting foreigners to achieve the demands of the authorities. Mostly, the release of the kidnapped for a ransom and it comes as a natural result of the deterioration of the security situation as a result of the political crisis, which began in early 2011

LEARNING ABOUT THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM: JUMP ON IT!

REBOUNDING BURNS THREE TIMES MORE CALORIES THAN RUNNING, IS EASIER ON THE JOINTS AND THE BEST EXERCISE FOR YOUR LYMPHATIC SYSTEM.

T

THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM IS A COMPLEX NETWORK WHICH CARRIES THREE TIMES MORE LYMPHATIC FLUID THAN BLOOD IN OUR BODY.

here is a system working in our body to keep us healthy that few of us ever consider. And just as we and all our organs are dependent upon it, it in turn is dependent upon us. The lymphatic system. BY HASNA’ ABDULMAJID

Although few of us ever think about it, the lymphatic system deserves our understanding and attention. The blood that is in our bodies is often given more recognition and we are connected to its importance in our lives. There are terms that we use that give importance to blood within a social context. We may describe people who are close companions as being “ Almost like blood” and everyone has heard the saying, “ Blood is thicker than water.” From a literal standpoint every one of us has had a wound from which we have bled and so this aspect of the circulatory system is far from being a foreign concept. Blood is circulated by the heart at all times and it is well known that exercise and diet can improve the function of the heart. Nevertheless, a person who is in a coma and not eating or moving will still have their blood moving as long as the heart is pumping. This is not the case with the lymphatic system despite its fluid being more than the blood in our body and the health of every organ dependent upon its function. What is the lymphatic system?

The lymphatic system is the system by which waste is removed from the body .It is made up of

glands, lymph nodes, the spleen, thymus gland, adenoids and most commonly known, the tonsils. By way of its lymphatic fluid, it carries the body’s cellular sewage from the tissues to the blood, where it is either filtered by the liver or the kidneys. The liver and kidneys , the main places by which the body is detoxified. It removes everything impure from remnants of over-thecounter and prescription medications, drugs, toxins from cigarettes, airborne pollutants, food additives, and pesticides. There are about 500 lymph nodes in our body although the number varies from person to person. They’re made of tissue that contains special cells that help fight infection and disease such as cancer. They very in sizes from that of a pinhead to the size of a bean. According to Wikipedia “ a lymph node or lymph gland is an ovalshaped organ of the immune system, distributed widely throughout the body including the armpit and stomach and linked by lymphatic vessels”. The lymph nodes are work like a filter that traps and destroys anything harmful or useless to the body such as viruses, bacterias, damages cells or cells that are cancerous.Within Lymph

nodes are high concentrations of white blood cells (lymphocytes). When these attack and break down bacterias and harmful cells there is waste and destroyed bacteria which are carried by lymph fluid into the bloodstream where they are then disposed of.

At times there is an accumulation of trapped bacteria and viruses that cannot be destroyed in the lymph nodes, they tend to swell and become tender and sore to touch and this can be sign of infection. One of the most common forms of this is tonsillitis.

Cancer cells can also spread into the lymph nodes from a cancer in another part of the body. Cancer can also start in the lymph nodes themselves (lymphomas). If this happens, the lymph nodes become swollen but are often painless. Some signs of sluggish Lymphatic System When a person’s lymphatic fluid is stagnant then consequently toxins are not able to leave the body as readily making it prone to illness. The fluid controlled by a pressure system would usually be fluid and think but instead becomes thick and at times congealed. When this place that disposes bodily waste becomes clogged the body may exhibit symptoms such as: •Recurring colds, flu, and other illnesses that indicate a weak immune system •Fibromyalgia, MS, chronic fatigue syndrome and even cancer. • Fatigue

• body aches and pains

•Acne and cystic acne along jaw line, near ears, cheeks, and/or sides of the mouth and chin •swollen lymph nodes in neck, groin, and under arm pits •Allergies

Ways to improve the Lymphatic System

REBOUNDING IS FOR ALL AGES AND FITNESS LEVELS.

•Deep breathing can be an effecient way to pump fluid through the lymphatic system. Breathing deeply transports toxins into the blood keeping them from going through the liver. Most of us breath very shallowly and many doctors advocate breathing exercises to improve the detoxification process. Marcelle Pick, OB/GYN NP writes. “Breathing serves as the pump for the lymphatic system, just as the heart serves the circulatory system. Your cells must have oxygen to survive moment to moment. To thrive, they rely on a complex exchange between the circulatory system

and the lymphatic system. Blood flow carries nutrients and ample amounts of oxygen into the capillaries, while a healthy lymphatic system carries away destructive toxins. Proper breathing is the moderator of this exchange. •Exercise in any form and specifically rebounding are a essential for lymphatic flow. The best kind is rebounding on a mini trampoline, which can dramatically improve lymph flow.James White, Ph.D., director of research and rehabilitation in the physical education department at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD), has explained added benefit of the rebounder when he said,“Rebounding allows the muscles to go through the full range of motion at equal force. It helps people learn to shift their weight properly and to be aware of body positions and balance”. It has also been ascertained at the American institute of bariatric physicians that rebounding burns 11 times more calories than walking, 5 times more calories than swimming and 3 times more calories than running!

•Drink water. Water is needed for every function of our body and the lymphatic system being liquid based is no exception. A person should ever wait until they are actually thirsty to drink water as thirst is actually a sign that your body is dehydrated.Without adequate water, lymph fluid cannot flow properly. One way to makes sure that the water is quickly absorbed by your cells, add some fresh lemon juice, lime juice, oxygen drops or pH drops.

•Dry skin brush especially before showering. Use a natural bristle brush on your dry skin.Brush in circular motions going upward from the feet to the torso and from the fingers to the chest. Strive to brush in same direction that your lymph flow – going toward the heart.

•Eat an abundance green vegetables to obtain chlorophyll which help purify your blood and lymph. They are best in their raw state or juiced. •Wear clothing that fits properly. Tight clothing restricts your lymph system and can cause blockage. Women should avoid under-wire brassieres and brassieres in general for least 12 hours each day. •Stay away from soda, neoncolored sports drinks, and fruit “juices” that are more sugar than fruit. These sugar-, color- and preservative-laden beverages burden the lymphatic system •Eat more raw fruit on an empty stomach. The enzymes and acids in fruit are powerful lymph cleansers. Eat them on an empty stomach for best digestion and maximum lymph-cleansing benefits. Most fruits are digested within 30 minutes or so and quickly help you feel better.

One specialist recommended the following:

•Add a few lymph-boosting herbal teas to your day, such as astragalus, echinacea, goldenseal, pokeroot or wild indigo root tea. Consult an herbalist or natural medicine specialist before combining two or more herbs or if you’re taking any medications or suffer from any serious health conditions. Avoid using herbs while pregnant or lactating and avoid long-term use of any herb without first consulting a qualified professional.

•Alternate hot and cold showers for several minutes. The heat dilates the blood vessels and the cold causes them to contract. Avoid this type of therapy if you have a heart or blood pressure condition or if you are pregnant.

•Get a gentle massage. Studies show that a gentle massage can push up to 78 percent of stagnant lymph back into circulation. Massage frees trapped toxins. You can also try a lymph drainage massage. It is a special form of massage that specifically targets lymph flow in the body. Whatever type of massage you choose, make sure it is gentle. Too much pressure may feel good on the muscles, but it doesn’t have the same lymph-stimulating effects.

AIR FORCE COLLAPSES

The black box is still missing and citizens have looted many parts of the wreckage. Military and specialized sources consider that it is more probable that the plane exploded before crashing. The Air force commander in Saudi Arabia and his deputy said: this is a targeting on the air force. Sources: there were three planes that returned to their bases during the last months with traces of shots on their wings. Military sources said the black box of the plane is still missing, fearing that it fell into the hands of the citizens who looted the scattered parts of the plane. Sources said 3 planes were exposed to shooting during the previous months and the shooting traces had been seen on their wings on their return from training flights. The sources disclosed that the radar station responsible for detection and control of the civil and military aviation on “Jabal al-Nabi Shauib”Prophet Shauib mount, went out of service two days ago, after it was surrounded by armed tribal groups , demanding sums of money from the Defense Department, according to the source.

In a first official response on the incidence, the Air Force chief of Staff, General Abdul-Malik al-Zohiri, said in a statement to the public state run TV (Yemen TV,) following the plane crash, “the crash could not have been from a technical failure because the plane returned from a mission and broke the sound barrier,” describing the incidence as a targeting on the air force, and wondering why these planes are falling in Sana’a in particular. A Ministry of Defense statement said, “After a training flight outside the capital, Sana’a, the military plane Sukhoi 22 returned in its full readiness, led by, Captain Pilot Hani Ali Obad Al- Aghbary. During his return, the pilot attempted to land, and while he was over Dar Salm neighborhood, as reported by eyewitnesses, the plane exploded and crashed on a dirt street, without casualties of citizens, except a mild injury of a woman and minor damages in the houses neighboring the wreckage of the plane. “ The statement added that the incident led to the death of captain Pilot al-Aghbary, and a committee has been formed for investigating the incident and the results will be published after the committee finds out the real reasons behind the crash.

YEMEN’S AIR FORCE SUKHOI CRASHES IN CAPITAL

A

Russian-made Sukhoi plane, which belongs to the Yemeni Air Force, crashed in the Yemeni capital Sana’a. The plane crashed in the 50th street, which is located in Bait Baws area, southern Sana’a. Flames were seen rising from the area. Eyewitnesses told Yemen Observer that the plane exploded in mid-air, and its debris scattered all over the residential area. Reports indicate that a number of people were killed and injured. A Yemeni official told AFP news agency that the pilot was killed in the incident. Fire trucks and ambulances rushed to the crash site, where at least four houses in the area caught fire. Initial reports indicate that the main reason behind the crash was a technical malfunction. A Yemeni official was quoted as saying that the plane was on a training mission. He added that the army had launched an investigation into the incident. This is the fourth military plane to crash in the Yemeni capital in four months. Twelve people were killed in a similar incident that occurred in February last year, when a military plane crashed on a building in a residential area in al-Dayeri street, Sana’a. Another military plane crashed in northern Sana’a last November. Air Force plane crashes have been repeating lately, especially since most of the Yemeni Air Force planes are old and dilapidated.
