09 Villa Petroti, Corfu

Villa Petroti was another exciting project I took part in while working with LWA. Located in the amazing landscape of Corfu Island, surrounded by dense and untouched vegetation, the client asked for a development of two apartments and one office space that would be hidden within the landscape and under the existing tennis court.

Taking into account the natural slope of the hill, and working closely with the landscape architect, we proposed a layout that comes forward in some places and steps back in others depending on the exact location of the existing trees. Using natural materials such as local stone and timber, the composition emerges from the ground to give the user the opportunity to experience and live within the outstanding nature, and enjoy the selective views of the beach while maintaining the natural scenery as unharmed as possible.

Level 00 plan Because of the steep slope of the hill on which the existing tennis court is located, the whole development is buried into the ground with only one side having the advantage to offer views of the beach.

Therefore, the composition was formed in a way that all the living spaces are heading towards the east windows to get as much light as possible, while the dark side in the back of the development is used for secondary spaces such as a garage, a storage room, and a water tank.

The access to the tennis court is kept untouched on either side of which there are two sloppy paths leading to the garage and the main living spaces. Access to the latter is also possible through the existing natural paths that surround the site.
