STUDIO PRACTICE Statement of Intent Name Blog Address http://afranklin1417.blogspot.co.uk/ Alice Franklin Date 5.2.17 Rationale I am going to do a set of briefs in which I can educate or inform children or older people if necessary to the brief. I also want to approach different briefs that aren’t necessarily educational but will inform my practice, which I can apply to briefs in the future. My passion is teaching and I want to create fun, different ways in which I can educate and inform people on certain topics, either adding to curriculum or focusing on topics that are not necessarily taught or spoken of very often. Themes / Subjects Education – Science, English, Maths etc. Hidden Curriculum – Life skills, people skills etc. Things that aren’t in the curriculum, but help build children’s character and prepare for life after school, either further education or work. Brief 1: Colouring Book
Rationale:
Deadline
Create an A3 line drawing for a colouring book to help De-Stress people with depression and anxiety, I am going to adapt this and make it bigger for my portfolio, I will submit one A3 illustration to the company but I am going to produce 3 to make into a pack. Brief 2: Met Office Deadline Rationale: Create a fun way for the Met Office to show their news on weather and how they find it out how the weather works. This could be fun to research the way they do it and how to create a fun way of creating it. Brief 3: Colours May Vary Deadline Rationale: For this brief I have to produce one print to go in the Colours May Vary exhibition. This is the brief that will be a challenge, I need to adapt it to fit within my practice, education. The brief is called ‘Out of Order’, which we can interprate in any way. Brief 4: Character Development Deadline Rationale: This brief I will develop 6-10 characters. The development will inform my practice and I can use them for oncoming briefs. Brief 5: Penguin Brief Deadline Rationale: This brief requires me to design a book cover for ‘The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ¾”
Additional Project Proposals
I would like to re-start my paper cut project as now I have enough time to experiment with the different processes, this could help to go towards the other briefs that I am choosing to do Contextual References Contextual References - - Shelley Li Wen Chen - Christopher Corr - Craig Foster - Heather Landis - Steve Evans (LinkedIn) - Hannah and Molly (LinkedIn)
RESEARCH ACTIVITY: Get In Contact With Schools
Deadline
Details
I need to get in contact with some schools to get some information from teachers and possibly students. I would like to know what are the subjects that the students struggle with the most and how they learn best. I want to do this so I can produce work that combats a problem as that is how I work best when I think I am making a solution to something. I could also see if there are topics that they think should be taught in school. RESEARCH ACTIVITY: Talk to parents Deadline Details I’d like to talk to parents, to see if there are skills or topics which they think should be taught to their children, which the curriculum doesn’t cover in helping them leaving school. RESEARCH ACTIVITY: Talk to Papyrus Charity Deadline Details I’d like to get in contact with the papyrus charity, I want to do this so I could find information in which I can add to the colouring book idea. I want this to be informative to fit my practice, so getting some primary research from them would help the project. RESEARCH ACTIVITY: Discover the best topics in the Met Office Deadline Details I am going to research the best topics to illustrate for the Met Office, I am going to use the ‘Evergreen’ information as it informs my practice, but there are numerous articles written by them, so I want to discover the most important, necessary articles to illustrate.
