And more books…

That's what you think! : a mind-boggling guide to the brain In this book, experts respond to 80 questions posed by children about the brain. Their answers explore how our brains develop, what they are made of, and how they work. They reveal astounding information and facts not only about the human brain, but also about the gray matter of earthworms, ants, and sperm whales. The images created by Jan von Holleben capture our personal control rooms in action--as we taste, get scared, study, juggle, and sleepwalk. These fun, enlightening photographs clearly demonstrate that even when we do nothing at all, our brains are hard at work.

La roue médicinale : la danse des cerceaux racontée The Hoop Dance and the Medicine Wheel are powerful symbols of unity, cooperation, and harmony. The Medicine Wheel's four colours-- black, red, yellow, and white-represent the various nations and people of the Earth. In Teddy's first book, he shares his vision of a world where knowledge guides our steps on a path of love, where all people see themselves as members of one family. English edition on order! Simon Schwartz was born in 1982 in East Germany, at a time when the repressive Socialist Unity Party of Germany controlled the area. Shortly before Simon's birth, his parents decided to leave their home in search of greater freedoms on the other side of the Berlin Wall. But East German authorities did not allow the Schwartzes to leave for almost three years. In the meantime, Simon's parents struggled with the costs of their decision: the loss of work, the attention of the East German secret police, and the fragmentation of their family.

The Ruptured Sky delivers insight into the vital role played by First Nations in the outcome of the War of 1812. Without First Nations participation, the British military and the Canadian militia would have lost. Canada, as we know it today, would be a very different place. If not for the First Nations allies, key battles would not have been won and Canada’s borders would have been invaded by American forces. 6 copies available! What’s New @ BZERC October 2015

Safety in the Senior Science Lab

In every classroom in every school, everyone has the right to a safe learning environment. Science laboratories present a whole range of potential hazards to people's health and wellbeing, and it is critical that both teachers and students are fully aware of their responsibilities to ensure the learning environment is kept safe at all times. Unfortunately, accidents can and do occur. Awareness and preventative action are therefore paramount to maintaining a safe environment. This program is aimed at students who are not new to science laboratories. It covers a range of safety areas, including general safety in science laboratories and specific areas of potential risk in chemistry, biology and physics labs. It is an ideal learning resource for students of this level to remind them of the ever-present need to act with safety foremost in mind at all times during science classes. http://www.accesslearning.com/videodetail.cfm?asset_guid=06BED6C0-634E-47B6-A3CC-3032A626326E Understanding Plagiarism and its Consequences

Information has never been more accessible than it is today. With millions of people contributing material to the internet, the temptation to plagiarize is ever-present. In this program, we explore the nature of plagiarism and debunk common myths and misconceptions that drive some people to cheat others out of their intellectual property. The legal, academic, professional and personal consequences of being branded a plagiarist are also examined. Students and professionals will benefit from the advice provided to help guard against the theft of both their own intellectual property and the creative work of others. http://www.accesslearning.com/videodetail.cfm?asset_guid=25055B3E-E1D0-496F-8506-807C90E55AEF
