1. Description 2. Environment 3. Furniture Design
Reflection Furniture Design was conducted online semester, which made it quite challenging as we could not meet our lecturers and classmates face to face for communication and we could not use the studio. However, I still think that it is an great process overall. In Assignment 1, I have learnt more about joineries and connectors as I had to observe and pay more attention to the objects around me. It made me understand more about how joineries work, which helped for assignment 2 and 3. Overall, I enjoyed sketching the weekly sketches and found it quite relaxing. Next, I think that I learnt more about the mass production of furniture and the furniture market. Me and my groupmate had to research what was required in the market and come out with a creative yet practical idea for our furniture. It was quite challenging at first as a lot of creative furniture has been designed by others. However, after brainstorming and researching together, we managed to come out with our furniture design. Overall, I found it interesting as we get to understand more about the practicality of furniture.
Lastly, in assignment 3, we had to base our design on our chosen city in the Invisible Cities novel, which I found to be fascinating as the novel describes the cities very well and made me immerse in its world. I chose Thekla as the city I focus on because I liked how it uses the stars and constellations as the theme. Although the process was a little challenging as I had not done many physical models, the model making and furniture design process was still fun as I got to be more hands on and think as if I was in the city itself. Overall, it was fun to be more hands on and experiment in this assignment.
