Welcome Tonight Capital Football, for the first time, welcomes College Sport to Memorial Park for the College Football Finals. The first game is the Girl’s final (Capital Football Trophy) at 6pm between Wellington Girls’ College and Wellington East Girls’ College. Both teams have beaten each other during the season, so we will be expecting a close game. The second game is for the Boys title, between the perennial champions Wellington College (champions seven times in the last eight years) against the 2010 champs St Patrick’s College (Silverstream). College Football started after World War II in 1946. In 1976 College Football broke away from the Wellington Football Association (now Capital Football). The league was sponsored by Cable-Price Toyota and the inaugural league was won by Tawa College. In 2000, the grand final concept was developed with the top two teams playing for the Trevor Rigby Cup. We’re looking forward to seeing the players competing tonight to go on to take part in the Capital Football leagues in the near future. Special thanks for the supporters attending the finals and good luck to all four teams! Capital Football
