Chief Executive’s INTRODUCTION GROWTH… Welcome to Issue 3 of our ConnectED magazine, where we bring you stories from our members and local businesses. This time we’re focussing on growth, which as you will read, means many different things to many people. We have waved Dan Cargill off with our very best wishes for his new job and welcomed Jagroop Singh into our team as Membership Services Manager. We’ve also expanded our International Trade and Export Documentation Services capacity, bringing on board Dave Adamson and Katie Preston to new roles as International Trade Assistants. Jeremy Parker of NFU Mutual joined our Board of Directors at our AGM and he brings us a wealth of experience and business connections. As a graduate of the Scottish Enterprise Rural Leadership programme, Jeremy will support us on many initiatives, such as connecting us to business leaders who are championing rural diversity and innovation. We’re also working on bringing the Chamber story to life and launched our first official video, produced with one of our members, Son of the Sea. Having members talking about how much they value their relationship with us, the many personal and business benefits that come with that and telling the stories of why we’re proud to do what we do – that’s a very powerful message. We also launched our Team Values after holding a session with some of our members to get a sense of how they felt that the values fit with us as a business, and as an organisation that is here to support and help businesses grow in Dundee and Angus. I am very proud to lead a Chamber which believes in being SUCCESSFUL, SUPPORTIVE, APPROACHABLE and ENGAGING. By making sure that these values sit at the heart of how we behave internally in our teams and externally with our members and contacts, I know that we will continue our path as one of the fastest growing Chambers in the British Chambers of Commerce network. Alison Henderson, CEO

news... Chamber Growth
We’re delighted to welcome new team members to the Chamber. It’s important that we support businesses to make the most of being a Chamber member, and Jagroop will be coming out to see lots of members over the coming months. Dave and Katie join Hayley and Lauren in working directly with our exporters, to support the movement of goods overseas. We’ll also be connecting with businesses to help with planning and mitigating the impacts of Brexit, and supporting new global connections through our work with the Scottish Chambers of Commerce Network. As part of our International Connections work that we will do in the next 18 months, we will be strengthening business relationships between Dundee and Dubai, working to support businesses trading with China, and building on our Chamber connections in Scandinavia.

“Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.” Benjamin Franklin
There’s a lot to smile about in Dundee and Angus. The past year has been a hugely exciting period for the region, with growth seen across a range of businesses, from SMEs to long-established organisations. DACC is excited to be going on this journey of growth with its members and provide support in the growth of your businesses. The following pages are from our members, sharing their stories, ambitions, tips, love of their region and how the Chamber has impacted their ability to grow. Before that, our CEO Alison Henderson provides a special introduction… “Since our last magazine was published, around seventy new members have joined our Chamber, with over 1,500 people attending our events to grow their network, grow their skills and grow their use of Chamber benefits. Our news channels remain consistently busy, with our online news reaching over 700,000 hits in the last three months. “Some of the highlights of the last few months have seen us continue the important partnership work with Zero Waste Scotland to deliver our Circular Tayside project with Perthshire Chamber of Commerce and Ricardo, helping businesses uncover the economic benefits of the circular economy. “We ran another successful ‘Making the Most of your Membership’ session, did two Hard Hat tours of the Earl Grey Building in the heart of Dundee Waterfront and held a Business Round Table with The Rt Hon Stephen Barclay MP, Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union. I was delighted to chair a very successful discussion with members and a large group of Directors of Communication from various Whitehall departments, led by Alex Aiken, Executive Director for Government Communication, from the Cabinet Office. “Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce is here to help members Connect, Communicate and Develop. We represent our members’ views and use our collective voice to influence opinion makers. We are passionate about Dundee and Angus and promote it as a world-class destination, helping the local business community to thrive. “In this issue, we’ve been talking to members about how they have seen the Chamber grow, develop and give real benefits to their businesses and the local community. “The rest of the magazine is packed with many stories of growth, business success and economic impact – we hope you enjoy reading it!” Feature by Irene Duncan, Take My Word

Networking is so important Andy Simpson, Founder and Managing Director of Angus 3D Solutions, explains why he decided to launch his own business and how Chamber events have helped and inspired him as he grows his business.
“Building relationships is vital and the Chamber can play a major role in that.”
“Before setting up my business, I worked in the Oil & Gas industry in Aberdeen. I ran manufacturing facilities in Abu Dhabi, Russia, Germany, Great Yarmouth and Arbroath. When the Oil & Gas downturn kicked in, my job changed and was involved in shutting down several of these factories. This was very unpleasant and ultimately affected my overall wellbeing. “To gain control of my destiny, I set up Angus 3D Solutions at the start of 2017 as I could see the potential use of additive manufacturing in Scotland. This turned out to be a great decision. “The business is growing and we’ve just taken on our first employee, which was been a major step for us. “The business’ growth is on plan, which involved the purchase of the latest technology in 3D metal printing. This technology is called ADAM (Atomic Diffusion Additive Manufacturing). We’re the only provider of this technology in Scotland and it’s the only machine commercially available in the UK. “Being located in Brechin has been ideal as we can visit customers easily throughout the Dundee and Angus area and also customers in Aberdeen. “We have a diverse customer base – from individuals and general manufacturing to Oil & Gas, medical, automation, heart surgeons and satellite manufacturers, which reflects the diverse businesses in the region. “It’s fantastic being a member of the Chamber. I think it’s particularly beneficial at the start of building a business, as the events they run are both informative and very social. Networking is so important and it’s vital to have the right people attending which is the case at the Chamber events. The Chamber helps make one-to-one introductions to other Chamber members as well. “Working on your own can be quite lonely. Meeting other like-minded people, even just for a coffee, is beneficial and the Chamber events provide this opportunity. “I found the Business Growth Mentoring Group first class. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to develop as an individual, develop their business and learn with other like-minded people. It’s a great way to do this. “My biggest piece of advice to anyone who wants to set up a business is never hesitate to ask for help. Building relationships is vital and the Chamber can play a major role in that. “It’s handy to be able to pop into the Chamber and have a coffee and a chat. You never know who you’re going to meet or find out relevant information for your business from. “The Chamber is such a positive place – very upbeat and welcoming. There’s a tremendous energy about the team who are always there to help in any way they can.”

We want to be part of the creation of the new Dundee
Celebrating its 25th anniversary since being awarded university status, Abertay University’s Head of Business Engagement, Lorna Edwards, shares what her role involves, the university’s special relationship with the business community and how that has been strengthened by the Chamber. “In plain language, my role is to make sure the university is as useful as possible for the business community. I run the events team and work on some of the big projects with business input. I also run the student enterprise and entrepreneurship hub, called Bell Street Ventures. It’s a new initiative for the university which is really exciting. There’s a lot of very positive overlap with the Chamber. “Our student population is in the region of 4,500 students who come from all over the world. They are predominantly Scottish, but there’s a fair proportion from the rest of the UK. “Our growth in terms of reputation is excellent – Abertay University is recognised globally as a leader in computer games education. We have a big reputation in Games Design, but we also teach Computer Arts, Sound and Music for Games, Production Management and Computer Games Technology and Analytics. InGAME is a research collaboration helping games companies benefit from cutting-edge research. “Abertay is a teaching intensive university – most of our income comes from the teaching of students rather than research. Our graduates are our most important product, so it’s important that businesses want to employ them and work with them. “Computer games is strong and we’re growing in cyber security. We were the first university to offer degrees in Ethical Hacking and have an excellent international reputation, which has been recognised through the inclusion of the Cyber Quarter within the Tay Cities Deal. “There’s a huge choice for students. Mental Health Nursing, Counselling and Psychology are strong and we have a good reputation in this area. We do a lot in Sport Science as well as Law, Marketing and Finance at the business school. A lot of our students come from college – there are lots of ways to find yourself at Abertay, no matter how far away from university you think you might be.

“We also have a lot of expertise in food and drink innovation. On the campus we have a pilot food production plant and a consumer testing facility. We work with companies to test recipes, as well as packing and production techniques. “Being a Platinum member of the Chamber has been great. It helps embed us with the local business community. “The thing that surprises me most about Abertay University is what we are rather than what people expect from a university. We are small and friendly, with a real and genuine willingness to help – from individual students to small businesses to the whole community. “We want to continue to be part of the creation of the new Dundee. There’s an obvious connection between Abertay University and the digital economy where the availability of smart and well-educated people is fundamental to success.
“We work with the Chamber to support potential entrepreneurs setting up businesses during or after their studies.” “We’ve held joint events with the Chamber and also send staff to present at events – this year we’ve already done a business breakfast on cyber security, which got great engagement. We work with the Chamber to support potential entrepreneurs setting up businesses during or after their studies. “Alison and her team are fabulous. They are always there helping to promote opportunities and putting Dundee on the map which highlights Abertay University. The university is all about recruiting students and making them ready for their future – whatever that may be. “The support from the Chamber is enormous and is such a positive relationship.”

There’s a great sense of community within the Chamber Graeme Mackay is a Director at Begbies Traynor who offer financial advice to companies and individuals facing difficulty. With over 30 offices in England, five in Scotland and another in Belfast, the Dundee branch has been in operation for over 10 years. Joining the Dundee office just over a year ago, Graeme is enthusiastic about the business and its connection with the Chamber. His advice for any company having problems is to seek advice as soon as possible. “We realise people are often fearful of the potential costs involved, but there is no charge for our initial consultation. There are all sorts of reasons why businesses face difficulties. Sometimes markets can literally disappear. “I would always recommend people get in touch with us as soon as they think there may be an issue. The longer you ignore a problem the bigger it becomes. It can be a very lonely place when you own a business and something goes wrong. The emotional and mental stress can be enormous. We can do a lot to help. “It’s a great feeling when you’re able to save a business or lessen the stress. People are always very grateful to get help and have someone to offload on.” Graeme has advice to give to everyone thinking of launching a business. “When launching a business, you need to know your market and ask yourself why you’re getting into the business. I ask people where they ultimately want to be and work back from that. It’s all about understanding why they want to be in business. “If it’s a hobby someone wants to turn into a business they have to ask themselves if it’s sustainable. Basically, can they earn enough to live? It may be a well-paid hobby but not a sustainable business.
“The Chamber is constantly thinking of different ways to help businesses. It’s not the same old, same old.”
“Since I came on board in Dundee I’ve attended a number of Chamber events which is a great opportunity to raise our brand awareness. Getting to meet other businesses is definitely beneficial. I find the events are very varied which is good and the networking is excellent. “The Chamber is a great support, particularly for young people starting out in business. “It’s a lively office and very friendly. The team are regularly in contact and make you aware of the benefits of membership. The Chamber is constantly thinking of different ways to help businesses. It’s not the same old, same old. They have the right level of engagement – not too much and not too little. There’s a great sense of community within the Chamber.”

Being part of DACC means you have a voice Graham Huband, Deputy Editor of the Courier, underlines the importance of the Chamber in reflecting Dundee’s new-found confidence and “phenomenal growth”. “I remember the former Dundee Chamber when it was based in Meadowside. The organisation worked hard, but didn’t have the presence DACC has today. The new set-up mirrors Dundee as a city and its renaissance and it is definitely having a positive impact on the business community. “The city is more confident and DACC is the fastest-growing Chamber in the UK. That alone demonstrates just how far the city has come from the post-industrial malaise days of the 1990s and early 2000s. “Growing networks is vital for business and the Chamber does this really well. It connects people and companies who wouldn’t have obvious links otherwise and it is bringing new people to the party all the time – the more who come to the party the better. There’s been phenomenal growth in recent years. “Dundee needs an organisation where businesses can have a work space, a coffee and a chat. The Chamber definitely fulfils this role. It’s also a conduit to the wider Chambers in Scotland. “The Courier has a business desk whose role is to reflect what’s going on in the commercial community locally. The Chamber is at the heart of that community and every member has a story which we believe could and should be told. DACC is a central hub for the business community. The Scottish economy is more than 90 percent SME based and many small businesses work in isolation. “The Chamber gives those traders the opportunity to get out, make new connections, talk business and, ultimately, to grow. “When you are a one-man-band business it is incredibly difficult – if not impossible – to influence the policy decisions which directly impact upon your business. “Being part of DACC and the wider Chamber network gives you that voice. Dundee and Angus Chamber is very active in promoting its member companies and raising the fears and concerns they have with decision makers. That approach is working and is reflected in its ever-increasing number of members. “Twenty years ago, there was very little inward investment into Dundee. Today it’s a different story. The regeneration of the city is phenomenal. We now have investors looking at the city in a way they never did before – they are turning their heads towards us rather than away from us. “Another phenomenal resource is the more than 30,000 students studying at college and university in Dundee during the academic year – that’s roughly one in four of the population. “We need to harness this talent within the city and the wider region and we need to foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. “DC Thomson is proud to be a Platinum partner of DACC and, like the Chamber, is part of the growth story of this city along with the likes of Elevator, the Prince’s Trust and many others. “The Chamber plays a strong role in supporting businesses, regularly hosting tremendous events featuring decision makers and influencers. It cares passionately about its members and there is regular communication. It’s also incredibly helpful. “The team don’t always have the answers, but will always point a member in the right direction for support or help.
“We now have investors looking at the city in a way they never did before – they are turning their heads towards us rather than away from us.”
“The entire Chamber team is fantastic. Alison is pro-active, visible and has a vision to grow the Chamber even more. It’s also good to see young people joining the team, gaining experience and contributing to its overall success.”

Really helpful, friendly and professional Graham Parker is full of praise for the Chamber. In his previous role as Client Manager at Murray Taylor’s Arbroath office Graham oversaw the smooth running of the compliance and bookkeeping departments. He was the main point of contact for clients and says it’s vital to build strong relationships. “Trust is massively important with business and people definitely trust us. We had a lot of clients who had been with us for many years. We encouraged them to keep in touch as a regular connection helps build trust.” “Murray Taylor joined DACC in 2016. Their team is great – really helpful, friendly and professional. The Chamber has definitely had a positive effect on the business. It helps to make good connections as there’s a broad range of events. Their 123 Lunches are excellent for catching up and networking. “The fact you can use their rooms for meetings is excellent – and the rates are very reasonable. We used the Chamber as a client drop-off point which was really useful. “We were looking to expand business in Dundee and being a member of the Chamber made a difference. Since joining, my LinkedIn Connections has grown from 180 to over 600.”
“Their 123 lunches are excellent for catching up and networking.”
Graham was with the company for 13 years. They put him through his training and continue to take on trainees straight from school, which works well for both parties. He is looking forward to continuing his relationship with DACC and their members as a trustee with Skilz Academy.
Accountancy firm Murray Taylor has been in operation for just short of 30 years. Tom Murray and Steve Taylor set up the company in 1990. They were both sole traders who met at a party and then came together to form the business. Not your average way to go about things, but their meeting of minds that night has resulted in great success. Today, Murray Taylor employs 30 staff – 20 based at the Montrose office and a further 10 in Arbroath. This year, they’re aiming to surpass previous targets as they look to grow in Dundee.

DACC events are very important to the business Emma Miller is the local Business Growth Enabler at the Royal Bank of Scotland. Having worked at the bank for 14 years, Emma has seen how it has benefited from networking at Chamber events. She tells us why she has the best job in the bank and is pleased to report business growth. “I love my role. I cover a wide area from Montrose to Pitlochry, up to south Aberdeenshire, plus parts of Fife and central Scotland. What I love about my role is that no two days are the same. “Some days, I could be running an event in the morning where I bring in an expert speaker and in the afternoon I could have a mentoring session. Others, I could be attending an event and then helping someone with a lending application. It’s totally diverse. The Business Growth Enablers run the Boost Your Business programme which is all about running value add events, networking and connecting people. “I’m pleased to report business growth is good. We’re in a much better place than we have been in the past and that’s due to feedback from customers and continual changes to the way we operate. We listened to what the customers wanted and paid attention to their feedback. My role is all about being out and about in the business community. Face-to-face communication is really important. “Networking opportunities are essential. I attend as many Chamber events as I can and I’ve never been to a bad one yet. They are extremely well organised and relevant to my business.
“The Chamber is very pro-active in supporting businesses.”
“I meet a lot of valuable connections at DACC events, so they are very important to the business. “I would say the Chamber runs like clockwork. All the team are great – they have the perfect balance of friendliness and professionalism. You’re always made to feel very welcome and if I ask them to do anything they always deliver. “Since I started in my role there are far more businesses starting up, particularly with young people. They have the confidence to go for it! There are definitely more women going into self-employment and more women-led networks which is fantastic to see. The Royal Bank has just launched a special lending fund for women-owned or women-led businesses called Back Her Business which is aimed at helping more women to start up in business. There’s definitely a growing economy in Dundee with a wide variety of businesses opening up. “For small businesses, being able to rent Chamber rooms is fantastic. When businesses are starting they don’t necessarily need their own permanent premises, but sometimes require a meeting place. The Chamber rooms are in a good location and are reasonably priced. “The Royal Bank does a lot in the community and supports several charities. The organisation gives each member of staff five paid days off a year to support a charity which is brilliant. Furthermore, the bank matches whatever money is raised with the community cashback initiative. “The Royal Bank does a great deal to support new and existing businesses. For start-ups there are no charges for the first two years on day-to-day banking. For all Royal Bank business customers we offer FreeAgent – which is a cloud accountancy based software, subsidised by the bank and is available free for the lifetime of their business account, which is a significant saving. We’ve also launched MentorLive, an online HR platform. This is also free to all Royal Bank customers as part of the business banking proposition. “I would say the Chamber is very pro-active in supporting businesses. They recently contacted me to run an article on the bank’s Back Her Business initiative and are always looking to support their members in any way they can. “I’m a massive advocate for the Dundee and Angus Chamber. There’s a real buzz about the place and I haven’t met anyone who hasn’t found it fantastic – and that’s down to Alison and her amazing team.”

growth... Spotlight on Arbroath’s Fishing Heritage ANGUSalive is growing the range of attractions at Arbroath’s Signal Tower Museum, with a Spotlight on Arbroath’s Fishing Heritage. The Signal Tower, next to Arbroath’s picturesque harbour, was built in 1813, as shore station for the Bell Rock Lighthouse. Over almost 150 years, lighthouse keepers’ families lived there. The keepers used the tower to watch over their colleagues on the lighthouse, 11 miles out to sea. In 1974, a museum was opened at Signal Tower. Since then, generations of enthusiastic visitors have sung the praises of the museum’s displays about Arbroath’s lighthouse and maritime history. Signal Tower Museum has been inducted into the TripAdvisor Hall of Fame, for achieving a certificate of excellence every year for the last five years.
Accountancy Firm Invests in Dundee Premises to Accommodate Growth Leading Scottish taxation and business advisory practice, EQ Accountants LLP, is expanding its Dundee premises to accommodate significant growth in recent years - and further anticipated growth in the short term. The firm, which also has offices in Forfar, Cupar and Glenrothes, is expanding its City Quay premises by incorporating the 2,300 sq ft unit next door, which was acquired at the end of 2018. The work to renovate and connect the additional space commenced last week, and will create an office of around 8,500 sq ft. This will complete a £1.25 million investment in the City Quay property by EQ in the last two years. The development follows a near 70% increase in headcount within the Dundee office since 2015. With 54 people now in place, the firm has recruited into its client service teams and across Central Services, at all levels from school leavers and graduates, to experienced professionals. David Cameron, Managing Partner commented, “We are delighted to be expanding into these new premises which reinforces our longterm commitment to the city. “With growing demand for the services we provide, it’s crucial that we have the right people in place, and the space to accommodate them comfortably. Our effective recruitment processes are ensuring that we have the necessary resources as we move forward. “With plans to recruit across all areas of the business in the months ahead, our expanded premises will allow us to accommodate our growing team and provide them with a working environment they can thrive in and be proud of.” For more information, visit www.eqaccountants.co.uk or the firm’s new dedicated Taxation website www.eqtaxperts.com. Details of the opportunities to join EQ can be found at www. eqaccountants.co.uk/careers/.

Hawkes Health plan move to Dundee to capitalise on upcoming decommissioning projects Aberdeen based Hawkes Health has announced its intention to set up a permanent base in Dundee with a new office base in the River Court building on Victoria Dock. Hawkes Health was formed out of the Oil & Gas sector in Aberdeen. Its ‘Blue Chip’ clients include Shell, Premier Oil and Marathon Oil. The firm’s network of offices include Aberdeen, Norwich, London, Manchester and Birmingham. Hawkes Health provides environmental health and occupational hygiene services that it believes will be in high demand in relation to recent decommissioning firms setting up in the city. Services include recording how hazardous materials are handled, noise levels assessments and air monitoring. Hawkes also provide on or off site drug and alcohol testing and food safety auditing, enabling catering facilities to meet their legal responsibility to ensure food storage and service is safe. Directors Michele Buckley and Dan Hawkes said: ‘’We assess any type of workplace health risk. We are already nurturing relationships in Dundee and we want to capitalise on this incoming work.”
MP opens Certas Energy’s pioneering refuelling bunker at The ‘fechan Truckstop’ Certas Energy, the UK’s leading independent distributor of fuels and lubricants, welcomed lorry drivers and local dignitaries to the official opening of its new refuelling site at the popular ‘Fechan Truckstop (Eardley International). The bunker promises increased speed and efficiency, as well as convenience for drivers. The ribbon cutting ceremony was overseen by MP for Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale, David Mundell, with several other local councillors joining HGV drivers and Certas Energy representatives at the site. Representatives from Certas Energy were on-hand to offer advice and explain the benefits of their fuel card system to local drivers. A truly local event, the bunker opening also saw pupils of Hoddom Primary School in Ecclefechan design road safety posters, which will be on display at the ‘Fechan site to encourage drivers and pedestrians alike to be mindful on the roads.
“Eardley International Truckstop is such an important fixture in this community, so it’s fantastic to see companies like Certas Energy investing in the area.”
Located at Junction 19 of the A74(M) motorway at Ecclefechan, Scotland, the new bunker features a high-speed refuelling system which dispenses fuel at speeds of up to 120 litres per minute, as well as allowing up to three HGVs to refuel simultaneously.
Andrew Goodwin, National Bunker Manager for Certas Energy, said: “We are so proud to be able to officially open the ‘Fechan Truckstop’s refuelling bunker. The Eardley International stop is very popular within Scotland’s driving network, so it is fantastic to be able to offer them such state-of-the-art facilities.
The site also features advanced data collection technology, fuel monitoring equipment, filtration systems and multi-product dispensers to help drivers and fleet managers maximise their efficiency.
“Extending our coverage to all areas of the UK is important to us at Certas Energy, and the ‘Fechan project has allowed us to continue to forge great relationships with drivers north of the Scottish border.”
David Mundell MP commented: “The new refuelling facility is a great addition to Scotland’s strategic road network that will support both HGV drivers and transport businesses.

Rural Leaders travel to the Netherlands for ‘innovation safari’ Rural Leaders from Scottish Enterprise recently visited the Netherlands with a Rural Youth Project delegation from across Scotland to embark on an “Innovation Safari” exploring rural-urban relationships. The many visits featured agri-tourism, hospitality, food producers, innovators, community supported agriculture, HAS University and the world’s first floating farm. Jeremy Parker of NFU Mutual’s Forfar Agency shares some key themes from the trip.
Food and the growth of the City
A culture of innovation, collaboration and entrepreneurship
“The Netherlands can be viewed as a city of 17m people with co-ordinated spatial planning across provinces. Land use around and within the city should contribute to the health and wellbeing of its inhabitants. The concept of Urban Farming brings production closer to consumption and includes the use of redundant industrial buildings, brownfield sites, green corridors and vertical farms.”
“New thinking and new models are just as important as technical innovation. Increasingly businesses are finding their growth opportunities away from the current mainstream and within an expanding “sea of niches.” Hubs and clustering encourage collaboration.”
Social impact & community engagement “This was important for most of the businesses that we visited and it is proudly regarded as a measure of business success and growth. One farm operated in partnership with the local health authority to put 80 people at a time through a six-week programme, as part of their treatment for addictions or mental health issues whilst still operating as a commercial farm for fruit, vegetables and egg production.”
Circular Economy & sustainability “There’s an acceptance of the need to work with the sustainability agenda and resultant changes in consumption behaviours. Kipster Farm’s poultry feed used “residual flows” from large bakeries, reducing their carbon footprint by 50%. Even municipal verge cuttings don’t have to be waste. Cut-and-collect machinery sends grass feedstock to Anaerobic Digestion plants for gas or electricity production, both reducing the net public cost of trimming and reducing the land taken out of food production for this purpose. Koppert Cress has seven hectares of glasshouses, but sustainability objectives mean that, as they develop faraway markets, they look to establish local glasshouses to keep use of airfreight to a minimum.”

New MG Franchise Drives Mackie Motors Ahead Angus based car dealership Mackie Motors successfully launched their fourth brand - MG, the UK’s fastest growing car brand - in Brechin earlier this year. Their brand-new MG showroom, situated on Clerk Street, Brechin, right across the road from the group’s Renault and Dacia premises, has created several new jobs in the City and to date has exceeded even Mackie’s own high expectations. Kevin Mackie, Managing Director of Mackie Motors, said: “We’re delighted to be the main MG dealer in the North East of Scotland for the UK’s fastest growing car manufacturer. MG has been a really exciting addition to our portfolio of popular, great value motor brands.” Mackie Motors was established in Brechin in 1977, initially with just the Renault franchise. In 1998 they expanded, adding the Nissan brand and a new site on Montrose Road in Arbroath. The DACIA franchise, part of Groupe Renault was launched in 2013 in Brechin. In 2016 the Brechin site was completely upgraded and expanded to create more capacity, as well as a more modern, welcoming showroom environment. Kevin added: “The MG brand has a great history and we’ve been really impressed with the design, build quality and level of spec on the models in the current range. Industry talk is that it will have a 268mile range on the old NEDC cycle. This move further strengthens our already strong EV offering, which includes the popular Renault ZOE and iconic New Nissan LEAF models.” “We see this new venture as providing a fantastic opportunity for us to expand our new car market share in the region. Particularly as currently we are the only registered MG dealer between Falkirk and Shetland.” The UK new car market shrunk by 6.8% in 2018, but in contrast Mackie Motors saw new vehicle sales grow by an impressive 7.5%. “We are forecasting a 20% growth in combined new and used vehicle sales in 2019,” explained Kevin. “A strong start to the year put us on track to achieve this.”

STAR-Dundee looks to grow team to support new spacecraft standard For the past decade, aerospace engineering company STARDundee has been leading the development of the next generation of spacecraft onboard networking technology: SpaceFibre. To support this rapid adoption of SpaceFibre, STAR-Dundee are looking to grow its team in Dundee. SpaceFibre is a high-performance, high-reliability, high-availability network technology for use onboard spacecraft. It provides data signalling rates of 6.25 Gbit/s in current flight technology, while its unique multi-laning features allow up to 16 lanes to be combined into a single link, giving correspondingly higher data rates. SpaceFibre offers much more than high data rates, however and is capable of detecting, isolating and recovering from faults in the link where they occur, preventing faults from propagating around the spacecraft network.

Five Ways to get more from your Marketing Budget One of the biggest challenges faced by any business is how to grow. As a marketing agency, it’s the number one problem we solve for our clients. And yet, there are actually only two ways to grow a business (really!). No matter how we try to dress it up, business growth ultimately boils down to either doing additional business with existing customers, or from doing new business with new customers. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? So how come it never feels that easy once you set your sights on it? Well, that’s the million-pound question, and I’ve always suspected it’s down to a general overwhelm of the possibilities (and costs) of what could be done, rather than a laser sharp focus on doing something that’s achievable, affordable and will be effective. Here’s my top five tips on how to ensure your marketing activity will deliver growth: 1.
Focus your Budget. Hone in on the activities that actually make a difference to sales. Don’t assume because you have created awareness that sales will ultimately follow.
2.
Invest in Data Analysis. If you don’t have the data to help you make the decisions required in point 1, then invest time and expertise in finding out. If you have an online purchasing option, ensure you have Google Analytics set up correctly and then track what works.
3.
Clear the Clutter. Sometimes less is more in a marketing strategy. The key is reaching those customers you do want – whether they are new or existing customers.
4.
Tailor the Message. Existing customers want different things from you. They want to know what else you can do to help. New customers just want to know what you can do to help. The messaging to both needs to be complementary but not exactly the same.
5.
Be Consistent. Your customers will take time to catch on. They are busy people. Don’t just say something once and move on, repeat and repeat again. The best marketing campaigns work because they are seen often enough to be acted upon.

spotlight... High School of Dundee focuses on collaboration As the High School of Dundee continues to inspire young people, Alex McGrory, Head of External Relations and Development at the High School shares her thoughts on how wider collaboration in the community can engage with their pupils.
“There are over 80 weekly activities like our pupil-led Stop Motion Club, Community Outreach Volunteering, Boat Building, Volts Engineering Club, Music and Drama Groups through to the Enterprise Club – many that lend themselves to greater links with local schools and businesses. But we can’t do that in a vacuum.
“I recently read an article by George Monbiot which sums up what we are striving to achieve with our young people at the High School. He said: “In the future, if you want a job, you must be as unlike a machine as possible: creative, critical and socially skilled.”
“Since I joined the school a few years ago it has become clear that collaboration is the key to helping all young people in Dundee. We already share our facilities with local schools, but we want to strengthen the links that already exist with schools, colleges, universities, local businesses and the wider Dundee community. Joining the Chamber of Commerce is a fantastic way to connect with like-minded people who want to achieve the same goals.
“Creativity and curiosity ignites a love of learning and our young people should be allowed to discover a way of learning that best reflects their character and skills. “I am always heartened by the reaction of families who visit us for the first time. The common response is: “Wow, what engaged and happy children!” “When completing High School, pupils emerge with more than just a piece of paper in their hand. From Nursery to S6 our young people are demonstrating our core values of Honesty, Kindness, Creativity, Resilience, Confidence and Respectfulness in everything that they do in school to enable them to be socially skilled, creative and critical thinkers able to take on the challenges of tomorrow.
“So, if you’ve never ventured beyond the pillars please get in touch. We’d love to hear from you if you are a local business who would like get involved, or come along to our annual Open Morning on Saturday 21st September to find out more.” For enquiries visit www.highschoolofdundee.org.uk

The Unicorn Preservation Society’s vision is to see HMS Unicorn preserved in the East Graving Dock at the centre of a new Maritime Heritage Museum in her home city of Dundee.
Over the last year, HMS Unicorn has seen record breaking visitor numbers, been awarded the prize for Best Entertaining Team of the Year by the Scottish Hospitality Awards and achieved the Volunteer Award from Dundee University 2019.
Work continues to preserve the ship and grow her identity as a world leading visitor attraction. If you haven’t been down to Victoria Dock recently why not take a trip to the ship and show your support, taking the opportunity to see, at first hand, the many other improvements that have taken place onboard.
The National Lottery Heritage Fund, formerly HLF, has demonstrated their confidence in the Society having recently awarded a £29,800 grant to undertake further preparatory work on HMS Unicorn’s journey towards major funding.
For further news, please follow HMS Unicorn on Facebook and show your support by raising funds for the ship and by becoming a Friend of Unicorn.

These connections ultimately lead to increased business opportunities for local companies, as well as more opportunities for young people which sometimes extend beyond their stay at Rossie. Rossie’s hard work has led to various awards during the past 12 months. CEO, Mary Geaney, won the ASB Professional of the Year 2018. Rossie was recently awarded UNICEF’s Rights Respecting School Silver Award, and Gardening Scotland’s Pallet Competition Gold Award, designed and led by one of the charity’s young people. Law firm warns against neglecting mental health issues Kate Wyatt, Dundee-based Partner in the employment team at Lindsays solicitors, is encouraging Tayside employers to take greater responsibility for the mental health of their staff. Employers who don’t do this face a range of risks including rising numbers of complaints to tribunals, she warns. Small businesses that don’t have a dedicated HR function are particularly vulnerable here. They may not have anyone in the team who understands what support and resources can be (or should be) offered to employees or understand their legal responsibilities as employers. According to Kate, the main legal risk for an employer who ignores or mishandles mental health issues is of disability discrimination. The average UK-wide award from employment tribunals for cases of disability discrimination in 2017/18 was £30,968, with the highest amount awarded being £242,130.

She said: “Even before a problem gets to the legal stage, employers may have to deal with reduced performance and poor attendance. This can also feed into higher pressure on other staff, disruption, lost business and lower productivity.” According to the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH), every year one in four people in Scotland will experience a mental health problem. “It’s important for employers of all sizes to communicate – listen to people’s problems and try to address any work issues that are contributing to the problem,” Kate added. “The key thing is for employers to recognise the issue of mental health and take advice early. There’s guidance available from organisations like Acas and employment lawyers who can tailor advice to your particular company.”

Project to develop community fruit and veg growing site at Camperdown Park is explored A new approach to upscale the involvement of Dundee citizens in local growing has been initiated by Dundee City Council, Dundee Social Enterprise Network and the Maxwell Centre. In its infancy, the potential to develop an underused site north of the City for fruit and veg growing is being explored. The vision is to create a space where local food and plants are produced and where community groups and individuals sharing the vision, come to learn and grow. It’s envisaged the project will provide opportunity for training and upskilling individuals and eventually creating opportunities for income generation, whilst producing local food for local people. Building on the popularity and success of community growing spaces around the city, Dundee City Council recognised the potential to increase the impact city wide through the upscaling of the local community garden. With this, the potential to develop the Council’s site at the well-loved Camperdown Park was seen. Partnering with Dundee Social Enterprise Network and
the Maxwell Centre funding was obtained, allowing the feasibility of the idea to be explored. It is envisaged that the sale of fresh produce and eventual branded products will contribute to an income stream through potential markets. Learning from similar models, the project vision sees net profit being circulated back into educational as well as health and wellbeing projects, with the issue of food poverty being high on the agenda. DACC lead workshop sessions at Dundee’s Al-Maktoum College Alison Henderson, CEO at DACC, led Leadership workshop sessions at Dundee’s Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education in June. As part of the College’s annual Summer School programme, Alison explored the topic of leadership qualities and attributes as she presented to over sixty overseas students during the College’s 28th education programme. The programme, aimed at female students, was established by AlMaktoum College in 2003 and has since received much support from the Dundee community. Over the years, Dundee’s Lord Provost has met with hundreds of Summer School students from across the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and Egypt. The Summer School programme lasts four weeks in total and aims to allow female students the opportunity to experience cultural exchange, whilst learning the importance of multiculturalism and diversity in leadership. During this time, students become residents of Dundee, this time staying at West Park, and enjoy excursions to wider parts of Scotland and the UK. A panel of local industry experts and DACC members, also attended the Chamber-led workshops to share their personal leadership experiences through a series of group discussions and café conversations. The experts sharing their journey’s included Dr Liz Cameron OBE, Chief Executive, Scottish Chambers of Commerce; Andrea Calder, Head of Chief Executive’s Services, Dundee City Council; Kelly Fairweather, Owner, At Your Service Scotland; Dr Bharti Rajput MBE, PhD, Founder
& Multi-Award Winning Podiatrist at Sole Body Soul and Michelle McKearnon, Head of Engagement at The Highland Reserve Forces and Cadets Association. The event was a huge success, with one of the students commenting: “I loved the leadership pizza idea. Each slice represented a different leadership quality and made us consider how leaders become so successful.” Alison Henderson, Chamber CEO said: “I was delighted to design and deliver these Leadership sessions, having participated myself over many years. We worked in groups to identify skills, attributes and attitudes for effective leadership, then carried that into individual assessments of the students’ own skills, giving them tools to help identify where they would like to develop.“ “The conversations with our visitors helped get a perspective on how leaders behave in different sectors, how experiences throughout a person’s career help shape them as leaders and had interesting discussions around what makes a good leader. The Summer School aims to inspire the next generation of female global leaders and I am proud that we have played a part this year.”

In June 2018, the Scottish Government launched a Pilot Programme in conjunction with Dundee Health & Social Care Partnership and NHS Tayside called Health & Work Support. Based in Kings Cross Health and Community Care Centre in Dundee, a team of health professionals offer free and confidential support to those finding it difficult to remain in work due to a health issue or disability. Statistics published in May 2019 by the Scottish Government show there have been over 500 enrolments since the project started. Demand for the service has dictated an increase in both physiotherapy and counselling sessions and this has prompted an expansion of the premises. The team are in the process of securing extra space within the Bowel Screening Centre at Kings Cross to accommodate client work on a day-to-day basis. Health & Work Support could be a valuable service to you, as an employer or an employee of a small-medium enterprise, in that you will benefit from fast access to treatments such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy and counselling. The team offer support for a range of wellbeing issues such as debt management, substance misuse problems, bereavement and stress/anxiety, to name a few. Health & Safety advice for your workplace is also offered at no cost. Call 0800 019 2211 or visit www.healthandworksupport.scot to find out more.

University of Dundee apprenticeships “challenging the myths” and boosting local community

The hunt is on for employers across Dundee and Angus to take part in the University’s biggest graduate apprenticeship programme to date. While most people associate apprenticeships with teens straight out of school, one local programme is proving that’s not always the case. In its biggest Graduate Apprenticeship programme to date, the University of Dundee is offering 110 places to people of all ages and academic backgrounds for the academic year 2019-20. The scheme is being run in partnership with Skills Development Scotland (SDS), which is funding the initiative. And with courses starting this September, the University is on the hunt for employers to collaborate. Karen Petrie, Associate Dean at the University of Dundee says: “We’re looking for employers across the Dundee and Angus region to make this programme available to relevant members of their workforce.” The University will work with employers to provide qualifications in subjects covering business, IT and engineering. The five courses with places are: Business Management; Engineering, Design and Manufacturing; Civil Engineering; IT: Management for Business; and IT: Software Development. “Participants can combine their tuition at the University with an employer relevant to that sector of study. It’s a perfect balance and one that we believe is an important boost to the community,” says Karen, adding: “It’s a programme that challenges the myths of what apprenticeships are, most people think of apprenticeships as for teens straight out of school. Partners to create “first-class” innovation centre at Michelin plant
our platinum & Enterprise partners...
A “flagship” innovation centre, the MichelinScotland Innovation Parc, will be created on the site of the Michelin factory at Baldovie in Dundee. An agreement has been signed to form a new company, Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc (MSIP) Ltd, which will deliver a new future for the plant focused on sustainable mobility and low-carbon energy. The joint venture is a partnership between Michelin, Scottish Enterprise and Dundee City Council and signals a long-term commitment to Dundee and Scotland by Michelin, which is ceasing production of tyres at Baldovie next year. Jérôme Monsaingeon, Michelin’s representative on the MSIP Ltd board, said: “On 17 December 2018, together with Scottish Enterprise and Dundee City Council, we pledged to move at pace to build a new future for our Dundee site. “Today, by incorporating MSIP Ltd, we are taking a first concrete step in delivering against our shared ambitions of providing employment opportunities for our workforce, creating a flagship innovation centre in Dundee and placing Scotland at the forefront in the fight against climate change. “Along with our partners, the Michelin Group is deeply committed to supporting the future development of the Michelin-Scotland Innovation Parc in the years to come. “Our workforce, through their support and professionalism, have played an extremely important role in ensuring we could set up MSIP Ltd. I would like to express my gratitude for their dedication in these challenging circumstances.” The partners believe the Michelin-Scotland Innovation Parc will be a leading global destination for innovation, attracting companies, research institutions and skilled people to address key global challenges in which Scotland has a competitive advantage. Councillor John Alexander, Leader of Dundee City Council, said: “This signing is a hugely important milestone in delivering on the pledges made after the closure was announced six months ago. “The progress over that period is testament to the genuine commitment and hard work of all involved. Michelin’s long-term presence in the city is welcome as we build a new future for the site around sustainable mobility and low-carbon energy.
“a centre of excellence in sustainable mobility and low-carbon energy.” “There will be no let-up in our efforts to deliver significant employment and investment opportunities at Baldovie, with a clear focus on securing the first tenants for the Parc.” The partnership will provide job opportunities and skills development in the Dundee region with the aim of meeting the needs of people, place and planet. Derek Mackay MSP, Economy Secretary, said: “Since Michelin announced plans to close its Dundee plant in November, the Scottish Government, our agencies and our partners have worked tirelessly to find a long-term sustainable future for the site and the workforce. “Today’s announcement is an important milestone. The creation of the Michelin-Scotland Innovation Parc will create new employment and investment opportunities for Dundee and demonstrates Michelin’s commitment to Dundee. “The Scottish Government will continue to do all we can to realise these ambitious plans which will provide Dundee with a first-class innovation centre.” Steve Dunlop, Chief Executive, Scottish Enterprise, said: “The creation of the joint venture underlines the commitment made by Scottish Enterprise and our partners to create a long-term, sustainable future for the Baldovie plant that builds upon Michelin’s legacy of innovation and manufacturing excellence in Dundee. “Together, we aim to create a centre of excellence in sustainable mobility and low-carbon energy that creates domestic economic opportunities while simultaneously addressing the challenges posed by the global climate crisis.”
“There will be no let-up in our efforts to deliver significant employment and investment opportunities at Baldovie.”

living wage update DACC and Partners have lead the way in supporting Dundee to become the first city in the UK to be awarded recognition for a plan to become a Living Wage City. At an event held at DC Thomson’s headquarters, Ellis Watson made an impassioned speech to the audience and to employers in the City to get on board with the initiative. John Alexander, Leader of Dundee City Council, spoke about the Local Authority’s work in the area to support the growth of Living Wage accredited organisations, and his commitment to making it a key part of the Council’s conversations across the City. Part of the wider Action Plan sets out how partners will work together on “Making Dundee a Living Wage City” in partnership with Living Wage Scotland and making Dundee the first city to adopt a new, place-based approach to driving uptake of the real Living Wage by local businesses. Alison Henderson, Chamber CEO said: “We are proud to be a partner in driving this forward. Dundee’s ambition to be a Living Wage City is very much a statement of intent, looking to double the number of workers covered by the Scottish Living Wage over the next three years. The economic benefits of change in our city must make a difference to everyone. Get in touch with us if you want to talk about how straightforward we found the Living Wage Accreditation process and the benefits to our workforce & business.” Over 50 Dundee employers have already voluntarily committed to ensure all their staff and subcontracted staff receive a real Living Wage of £9.00 an hour, higher than the government minimum of £8.21.
The Action Plan includes commitments to: • Sign up other major employers in the city • Encourage employers in retail and hospitality to commit to the real Living Wage • Support and celebrate small businesses who join the Living Wage employer movement Following the successful launch, Dundee’s most recently accredited Living Wage employers gathered at Social Enterprise ‘The Circle’ in May 2019 to host a visit from Jamie Hepburn, the Scottish Government Minister for Business, Fair Work & Skills. Mr. Hepburn met with staff from The Circle alongside representatives from Coldside Medical Practice, cleaning company Star Clean, vegan café Marwick’s, Mental health charity Feeling Strong and arts charity Creative Dundee. Together these small organisations employ 47 workers, 24 of whom have received a welcome pay boost to the real Living Wage. Fair Work Minister Jamie Hepburn said: “I welcome the opportunity to congratulate Dundee’s latest Living Wage accredited employers. This follows Dundee being recognised in March as Scotland’s first city to demonstrate its commitment to becoming a Living Wage city. I am proud that Scotland has the highest proportion of people paid the Living Wage of any UK nation and I encourage all businesses to commit to doing the same for their employees. Paying the real Living Wage and becoming accredited treats people fairly, benefits the economy and sends a positive signal about the organisation into the wider community.”
The 50+ Living Wage employers already accredited in Dundee cover the equivalent of a quarter of all workers in the city. The Action Plan launched today sets out how the alliance intends to double the number of workers covered by Living Wage accreditation in Dundee over the next three years.

Hillcrest reveals a bold new overhaul After almost a year in the making, Hillcrest has this month unveiled a bold new brand and big changes following extensive consultation with tenants, service users and staff. The new brand, reinforced by a fresh palette of vibrant colours, new names, values and new logos, has been rolled out across all of Hillcrest’s companies. Working with external creative design agency Flock Creative, the new brand has been developed to reflect the key points highlighted throughout the research conducted. Hillcrest Housing Association has now become Hillcrest Homes, Gowrie Care has now become Hillcrest Futures and Hillcrest Maintenance Service has been simplified to Hillcrest Maintenance. The refreshed line up also joins a brand-new venture, launched on 1 April this year. Hillcrest Enterprises was born through a merger between the former Northern Housing Company and Hillcrest Enterprises Limited. To celebrate the beginning of a new chapter for the organisation, staff and people that Hillcrest work with were asked to ‘Bite into their new brand’ with a series of bite sized celebration events. Hillcrest Chief Executive Angela Linton said: “Our rebrand, which has been the culmination of almost a year of hard work by our staff and external consultants, marks an exciting time for us at Hillcrest. These are big changes coming in, but as a company we are always eager to stay ahead of the curve and develop our offering.” “This new brand has been built from extensive feedback from everyone involved with Hillcrest, our tenants, service-users and of course our staff. We hope our vibrant new look will help carry us ever further on our upwards trajectory.”

On Wednesday 26 June a platoon of Chamber members descended on Slessor Gardens to develop their leadership, problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills from the Armed Forces Reserves. Taking place on Reserves Day, the inaugural ChamberFORCE Stretch event had seven teams taking part. They were: • • • • • • •
Hillcrest Hounds and Harlots (Participants from Hillcrest Homes) The Cooncil (Participants from Dundee City Council) The A-Team (Participants from Helm Training) West Park Warriors (Participants from West Park Conferencing and Events) HRFCA (Participants from The Highland RFCA) Clan Mactuff (Participants from Macdonald Resorts) Mixed Bag Maniacs (participants from DACC, The Malting House Design Studio and The Dundee Gin Company)
The activities taking place throughout the event included an inflatable assault course, pellet shooting, crossing a simulated mine field and reassembling a map that had been scrambled by an imaginary enemy. The event was organised in association with ChamberFORCE, a collaboration supported by The Highland RFCA which launched last year between five Chambers of Commerce across Scotland and the military. DACC worked closely with 225 (Scottish) Medical Regiment to pull off the event, supported by Dundee City Council. Alison Henderson, CEO of the Chamber of Commerce, said: “The day is about giving people a chance to work together and build a better team. It’s a chance for the armed forces to show businesses their best practices and give them something to learn from. It helped that we had such a glorious day to be out in Slessor Gardens. It’s a mix of mental and physical challenges so they have to work together. “This is the first time we’ve done this. We only formed ChamberFORCE around nine months ago, so we hope to bring it back next year and make it bigger and better and get more people involved. “There are some people who came today who didn’t really know the other people in their team, but by the end of the day they were communicating better and working together as teams.” The winning team on the day was The Cooncil, followed closely by Mixed Bag Maniacs. The teams were scored on their ability to work together as a team, follow instructions, complete the task and show evidence of good communication and teamwork throughout each activity. There is already talk of a 2020 event so summon the troops and get your team in early! Reserves Day is an annual celebration of the contribution reservists make to the armed forces.

CYBER SECURITY BUSINESS BREAKFAST Cyber Security Business Breakfast held at Forbes of Kingennie Country Resort, 12 March 2019 Attendees joined us in the beautiful surroundings of Forbes of Kingennie Country Resort to hear more about Cyber Security from our event sponsors m3 Networks, learning how it impacts not just the business but the individual and what steps can be taken to avoid getting caught out. During the morning we heard more about the expertise that m3 Networks and their team can deliver to businesses, along with our two guest speakers, Professor Karen Renaud from the Division of Cyber Security at Abertay University and Mikey from the Curious Frank team at the Scottish Business Resilience Centre. Hearing more about how hackers operate, why they target business, the impact it has on the organisation and how to ensure staff are aware of the threats were all high on the agenda, helping to educate members so they can make sure they don’t become another statistic. Our thanks go to Mark Riddell and the team at m3 Networks for their support with the event. www.m3networks.co.uk Photo credit: Digital Mark Photography

the last
word...
Stephen Simpson offers an insight into how Winter & Simpson Print have bucked the trend by growing the business in a shrinking market.
we view change as an opportunity “...we have a clear vision of who we are and what we want to be!” To be successful and remain in business both profitability and growth are important and necessary for a company to prosper. Understandably a company will often focus on short term cash flow and profitability but growth is the most crucial element to long term survival. This is particularly true in the print industry where machinery is very expensive and long term capital investments are required which need to be funded by equally long term growth strategies. Whilst all this sounds fairly straightforward, the major challenge we have faced at Winter & Simpson over the last few years is operating in a volatile print market which has changed considerably and one which has seen a steady decline as a result of email and other electronic communication. The management team at Winter & Simpson have always viewed change as an opportunity rather than a threat. Our growth strategy has remained consistent over the least 20 years and has focussed, and continues to focus, on three main areas. Firstly, we recognise and embrace the inevitable consolidation which the declining market brings about. In 1999 there were more than 25 commercial printers in Tayside. Now there are only a handful with long established names like Burns & Harris and George Stephenson & Son having disappeared. We proactively seek opportunities for acquisitions
Stephen Simpson
and mergers. Our company is an amalgamation of four different companies (David Winters & Son, Trendell Simpson, Tayport Printers and most recently Let’s Talk Print). Secondly, we continuously look at our product base. Our investment strategy has been under-pinned by a desire to increase the range of products we are able to offer our customers. As an example, we identified a growing demand from our existing customers for environmentally friendly packaging solutions and over the last 18 months have greatly improved the range of boxes and cartons we can produce. We also identified an increasing demand for signage, posters, exhibition materials, etc and investment was made to our large format department to significantly improve the range and quality of our products. Thirdly, we have a clear vision of who we are and what we want to be! We are a local printer who wants to build long term relationships with our customers, preferably on a face to face basis. We are passionate about service quality and our team are very focussed on providing a personal service with a desire to be seen as the friendliest, most helpful and most knowledgeable in the area.
