THE SPIRITUAL PATH: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY

Let’s have a conversation about spirituality, you and I.

I want to find out what it truly means to you.

Where does it take you when your inner dialogue mutters the word to you?

A dictionary definition points us to the following: “Relating to or affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things.”

Somewhat vague and uninspiring, I agree with you. What if it’s not something that can be defined? In the same way that pointing at the moon is not the same thing as understanding what the moon is.

Maybe you identify as deeply spiritual and have dedicated your life to truly knowing what is possible in this human experience, especially beyond - as much as possible - the ego. Maybe you’ve never thought of the subject a day in your life. Or perhaps you find yourself somewhere in between.

Whatever your story, you’re very welcome here.

I actually had this very same conversation recently with the beautiful and incredibly interesting Sheena Brown. What started as an interview, turned into an enthralling back and forth on the topic. After our time had blipped

by, we both remarked about how it’s rare and refreshing to have these conversations for the sake of them - not just in a teaching or a coaching capacity. I can’t speak for her, but I know I got a few nuggets of wisdom and little, cosmic puzzle pieces that now fit a little better into my understanding.

I loved that in a lot of ways we were saying the same thing, just wrapped in different, linguistic skin. I was enthralled by her story and her journey. I was mesmerised by the way she perceives reality right now; full of magic and hope.

The first point of similarity came early on as I was giving a little background on myself and my journey thus far.

“I did 10 days in Kathmandu,” she sympathised, referring to the ancient silent meditation practice Vipassana, which we’ve both done multiple times.

”I did my initial one in Kathmandu then a couple more in the Blue Mountains, and it’s just incredible how different the energy is.”

Agreeing on the fact that the spiritual journey is non-linear, Sheena describes it as a “Zig-Zag”.

As we continued, I learned more about the origins of her spiritual path. Fining the inner work and yoga (now having practiced for over 20 years) through an unlikely source - acting school!

Alive Magazine Wide Bay | www.alivemag.com.au 04 COVER STORY

“Acting school is about getting to know yourself on the inside. It teaches you to live truthfully under imaginary circumstances. So what you try to do is find internal triggers that are real, from your childhood and from your life, and keep acting them out to trigger yourself, that’s how it works. For me going through my childhood, on camera…” We both laughed at the implication of what this must bring up.

Anyone who has experienced some degree of spiritual awakening will know that there is no ‘unseeing’ the signs.

“One thing led to another, led to another and it was like a calling, not a conscious choice.”

“As you do yoga and as you meditate, certain things start to heighten and gifts you have that are dormant, start to wake up and… you can’t ignore it.” I shared my own experience in solidarity. Completely different circumstances, yet the same universal law at play.

In her own words, “I think that the Universe is always conspiring to give you exactly what you’re supposed to have.”

Currently offering a range of spiritual-based services she summarised the steppingstones of her journey as, “acting led to yoga, yoga to healing work.”

Sheena currently offers a range of services:

• Private yoga

• Astrology readings

• Kinesiology ‘integrated healing’

• Tarot and mediumship readings

I was curious about the transition to becoming a medium and I asked what lead to that evolution.

She started by sharing she has always had a solid meditation practice, where her gifts started becoming clear, then the tipping point, “then after I had my second daughter, the universe opened up.”

She described her world as being, “flooded with people from the other side.”

We spoke, at length, about the changes that the pandemic has brought about in people as a collective. This was especially interesting. We both had a similar take on the acceleration of the global consciousness, as a byproduct of lockdowns in particular, yet had some points of difference to share into.

“The way the world is, it’s like an accelerated spiritual evolution. Because I think there needs to be a lot more people holding a certain frequency, because of what’s happening on this big, massive rock that is spinning in the middle of space.”

05 Alive Magazine Wide Bay | www.alivemag.com.au
Alive Magazine Wide Bay | www.alivemag.com.au 06

I questioned if she thought Covid exacerbated it.

“Yep, 100 percent. People being forced into lockdown it was like they were forced into meditation or at least self-reflection, whether they realised it or not. People weren’t the same after because they were seeing things differently.”

This led us into the topic of how humans grow and move forward in regard to their spirituality. She made an interesting point, “It’s not an easy lesson to learn, but we don’t grow when things are easy. If you’re floating on a cloud, things are great, and we feel no need to grow. The jewel and the juice is in the struggle.”

“If you think about it like a diamond, it’s faceted and there’s so many different sides to it, it’s like, the more you put yourself in the flame the more things are created in beauty. It’s just part of the human journey.”

And further, “People don’t realise how powerful their minds are. They can create an external situation based on their internal feelings.”

This brought us round to the notion of oneness and how we’re spiritual beings having a human experience. We went on to the stark opposites of the human ego versus universal consciousness and how they are polar opposites; “How can you understand oneness without experiencing duality? That’s one thing I took out of 20 years of yoga. The only way to understand separation and duality is to experience separation and duality!”

To sum up I asked directly what spirituality means to her. I got several answers ranging in complexity until a final distillation point, “learning to operate from love, with everything.”

She expressed how this point is, now, so obvious to her but it wasn’t always that way. It’s completely unique to each person yet there are often similar waypoints or ‘stages’.

What does she recommend for someone beginning their journey? Perhaps someone who has just recently ‘woken up’ to this side of themselves. “If you have questions, find a teacher or a healer that you resonate with and ask them questions. Find like-minded people. Don’t underestimate the power of service to others.”

What about an actual practice?

“Walking meditations are a really good place to start. You can try to sit in meditation too, but just start with, say, three minutes. Then add one more the next day and so on. Try [the mobile app] Insight Timer.”

I was interested to hear that she doesn’t necessarily recommend guided meditations because they’re just another thing we need our phones for, hence the walking meditation as a starting point.

She shared a super cute story about her 7-year-old declaring at times, “OK, I’m off to do my mindfulness now Mum.” She jokes that her two daughters are already wiser than she is!

As is often the case with these articles, there’s so much more I’d like to have been able to share but I just don’t have the space. Perhaps I’ll start writing my own book on the chronicles of my interviewees!

I hope that I have been able to bring you into Sheena’s and my conversation and maybe you took a little something from it. I’ve enjoyed having the opportunity to chat with you, the dear reader, and I look forward to our next one.

A MESSENGER BETWEEN WORLDS

If you’re perception of a brilliant psychic is a wildhaired lady in a caftan holding a crystal ball, you clearly haven’t met Katy-K.

The highly sort after psychic, tutor, author and Modern Oracle Decks creator is a fun-loving everyday woman who loves to travel and spend quality time with her family.

Hence the name the “Modern Oracle”.

The only difference between a regular person and Katy-K is her unique physic abilities that she had used to help heal her clients over the past 30 years.

She’s not a wishy-washy clairvoyant that reads people’s minds in the lineup of the Woolworths checkout or become the entertainment at get togethers.

“I don’t walk around looking at people and wondering what’s going on in their head,” Katy-K said.

“It’s like going through someone’s underwear draw and finding things you’re not meant to find. You don’t do that.

“It’s funny, if I go to a party and someone says “Katy

is physic”, all the cheating husbands would disappear really quickly and you knew something was up,” she said with a laugh.

“But you never become the party trick or be friends with people who just want to pick your brain. I teach my students that.”

The Hervey Bay resident has built a solid foundation of trust with thousands of loyal clients around the world including many well-known celebrities.

She was born into a world of spirituality with her mother predicting the future in her dreams, her grandmother read tea leaves and palms and her grandfather - who she didn’t know about until her 40s and unfortunately never met - was a working medium from a family of seven who were all members of a spiritualist church.

She is a self-confessed sceptic but just knew from a young age that she had the ability to use energy to connect with others and feel “their aches and pains” but never revealed her gifts or harnessed them until about 30 years ago.

by Kerrie Alexander

Not even her husband was aware that when “on” and connected with the spirit world she could predict danger on the highway ahead or that the camera wasn’t working to film a jump off a New Zealand mountain, even though the guide was adamant it was working.

She even the predicted the exact time her granddaughter was being born.

Now that he knows, it all makes sense.

“That inner sceptic is always there,” Katy-K said.

“In my second book I wrote about imposter syndrome because I don’t think there’s anyone that hasn’t felt that.

“Things that aren’t tangible like the spiritual world; you can’t touch it or pick it up.

“It’s like a Tupperware party. You can invite everyone, but you never know who is going to turn up.

“Prior to everyone knowing I would just say what I knew in conversation to make it sound like they had already discussed it with me.”

That “knowing” was just too strong to ignore so the decision was made in 2005 to except and harness the gift through tutelage at the Arthur Findlay College of Mediumship.

Katy-K travelled to England sometimes twice a year from then on to study, until Covid hit.

She recalls one session in the heritage-listed building with solid sound-proof doors, when the tutor would send one student out of the class room while another student would sit down for a brief moment in a chair.

It was then her turn to come back into the room, sit on that very same chair and connect to the person that was sitting in it before her and share things about their life.

“They really did test you and you didn’t know what you were capable of until you were put on the spot.

“I surprised myself because when I started going into her shoe fetish, the tutor quickly shut me down as she had sat in the chair,” she said with a laugh.

It was also through these teachings that Katy-K harnessed the power of meditation which enables her to be “on” and connected through a connection prayer.

If she’s going to work, the prayer will set her up for the day’s clients but there’s no rest in between sessions.

She doesn’t mingle with other people or take a break. When she’s on, she’s on!

However, there is never any memory of what the client

Alive Magazine Wide Bay | www.alivemag.com.au 10

has been told so when they come the next time they start from fresh.

“I went to Adelaide recently and did 22 readings in one day, 15 minutes between each one and there’s no way I can remember each one. Because I work with energy, you don’t recall a lot afterwards.

“I look it as I have 15 minutes to help sort their lives out and guide them the best I can.

“I don’t tell people what to do, I tell the people what I am feeling, hearing and seeing and it’s up to them what they do when they leave me.

“I remember one celebrity was picking up her children in a limo and life was still happening all around her and she was testing me, and I told her what I thought, and she said how did you know that? I haven’t told anyone that.

“I said I don’t know but I won’t remember this when we’re finished anyway which is reassuring to them because if you’re a celebrity you want to trust that you can talk to someone without it becoming front page news!”

When it’s time to finish, Katy-K winds down and switches her mind off. She only connects if it’s time for work.

“I am not on, in the energy, all the time. It’s like leaving the gas stove on all the time… the gas just keeps flowing out. That would be exhausting!”

Katy-K is no stranger to the stage but always warns her guests that her shows aren’t an episode of Jerry Springer.

“I always say to the crowd, don’t ask me things that are going to embarrass you. Don’t ask me when your grandmothers going to die or what the lotto numbers are!

“You must be discreet. The spirit world isn’t going to work with you if you’re someone that is going to go off blabbing about someone’s life all the time. I totally believe that.”

The same belief goes for those sceptics who do not believe but want to just turn up to a reading for a laugh.

“It’s like anything there are a lot of sceptics out there and I would rather not see a sceptic as they will negate what you say anyway.

“Don’t come to me if you don’t believe. Usually, the only time that happens is if someone had bought

them gift and they will try and discredit everything I say.

“I don’t want to see them; they are wasting my time.”

She said her connection is only as good as the person letting her in.

“If they have walls up it only makes it harder.

“I can pick up people’s back aches, but I can’t tell them why it’s achy.

“I might see what’s coming up if they’re going on a trip and I’ll say that. I will have the place written on paper if I can connect to them.

“I might see some job changes and I will be specific with that change.”

The award-winning psychics learning and teaching journey is well documented in her two books including The Modern Oracle Book – How to tap into your unique psychic powers and The Modern Oracle book – Becoming more Psychic.

With many real-life examples from her own unique story and learnings, this book will inspire and encourage you to identify and develop your own unique gifts and provide guidance for every step of your journey.

She also created The Modern Oracle and The Modern Oracle Essential Oils card decks to assist other psychics to do readings.

These cards are proudly shown alongside Alison Dunlop’s Inspiration column in Alive Magazine each month.

“The Oracle Deck is a tool and different to Tarot which consists of 78 cards and follows a very strict format.

“Oracle decks can have any number of cards to use as a way of divination.

“It’s a tool like a crystal ball or pendulum. It’s a way of focusing to receive more information and guidance.”

The Modern Oracle Cards for Guidance can also be used for free on The Katy-K Spiritual Advancement Academy website.

“What I do is healing; helping people to move forward and take the step to understand what they’re going through and sort their lives out and get clarity.

“What they do with that information is up to them.”

PATHWAY TO HARMONY AND BALANCE

Aluring sign that read “Feng Shui can change your life” was intriguing enough for a 16-year-old Michelle Reid to pay for a sitting at a Brisbane psychic fair.

The consultant advised Michelle on how to bring harmony and balanced chi energy to her home and after moving around the bed to the best facing position, Michelle seemingly had good luck for the rest of the year.

The ancient Chinese practice of arranging pieces in living spaces to create balance with the natural world, had worked!

While teenage life got in the way of pursuing more knowledge in the practice, Michelle always followed astrology, horoscopes and as a spiritual person, enjoyed attending psychic fairs.

In 2000, a visit to a friend’s new home on the Gold Coast reignited the yearning to learn more about the practice after a feng shui consultant was paid to come in to arrange objects and space in the environment to achieve harmony and balance using formulas from a form score and annual stars.

Michelle became friends with Perry the consultant and the friendship resulted in tutelage every Wednesday night at feng shui workshops and later lead to formal training.

“I didn’t think I had a (psychic) gift or anything but my friend showed me what Perry had done, moving beds and furniture around according to the formulas, and it was fascinating,” Michelle said.

“I had learnt quite a bit from Perry at the workshops but I knew there was more to it so when she actually started teaching I jumped into her class and since then I have been immersed in feng shui.”

The pinnacle and belief in her training came in 2015 when she took the advice of the training practitioner and placed a note of intention in a metal “wishing box” and placed it in a spot that the stars and formula for that year read as lucky.

“One of the workshops with Perry said that year’s stars showed a strong energy for luck in the north-east area of the home.

“So, I wrote out a note with my intention which was money for a new couch, and then put it in place. I didn’t think about it all the time but it was there, no worries.

“I’d actually given up on it until I did my tax at the end of that financial year and because I only had a part-time job, I was only expecting $500 back. I got $5000!

“It was just so unexpected. I rang the tax office and asked where this money was coming from.

“That year, I couldn’t do anything wrong.”

Michelle, 60, has now made a business out of doing feng shui in other people’s homes using the score forms, the annual stars and the elements of balance including

water, fire, earth, wood and metal.

“These elements are all very much intertwined into every element of feng shui. They are assigned to each direction and each number in the flying stars which represent them flying into different parts of your life.

“When it comes to providing good fortune, good luck and good vibes, you have better outcomes on different dates.

“The study of feng shui is the movement of life energy around the good and the bad, positive and negative. It’s like magic mixed with science.”

Other training includes how to select “luckier” dates for things like signing important contracts, weddings and job interviews, as well as choosing a space with the best vibe in the home to make life-changing decisions.

“It’s a big balancing act and that’s where, as a practitioner, I come in and try to balance everything in their life to get opportunities to have better luck and a better life.

“If you’re thinking about making a big decision in your life, you’re best to go to one of those areas. That will stop the blocks from happening.

“That’s what I find personally. I find that it’s amazing how it works.”

This year’s stars say the south, south-west, north and the west are the best areas of the home for good luck this year.

In Michelle’s home, you will find a lucky bamboo plant in the centre of the house to enhance the centred positives and a yellow ribbon with six coins hanging in the west to add more positive energy.

“I feng shui my home to keep it comfortable and have trust that nothing bad will happen this year.”

According to ancient findings, if possible, you also need a support building at the back of the home, something higher on the left, something lower on the right and water at the front of the home to promote good life energy.

“Thousands of years ago scholars would make observations of people in their different villages and there was a correlation between where people lived and how prosperous they were.

“It came to light in their observations that the most abundant villages were the ones where they had mountains at the back, hills on each side and water at the front.

“Those things brought good energy through the movement of the life force and then the water collects it. That’s why the placement of water is important to the outcome that people are looking for.”

Michelle said nine times out of ten her clients’ intentions are to gain more wealth.

Alive Magazine Wide Bay | www.alivemag.com.au 12
WISE WORDS

However, you must be open to the outcome of the session for change to happen.

“I have learnt that intention has a lot to do with outcomes and if you didn’t think something was going to work, you wouldn’t pay out money to have it done.

“For most people it’s about more money and more success, or just more in general.

“I need to find out what problems have they been having in their life so then I can work out what is affecting them.

“I then go away and calculate everything else to see how the energy is moving through their home and see if it matches up to what they say.”

Michelle said it could be something as simple as changing the door you walk through to get rid of negative energy.

“The front door might have negative energy through it, and they are walking in and out of it every day and bringing negativity into the home.

“So it might be that they need to change how they enter the house.

“The area where they are spending most of their time might not be so great, so we use forms and formulas through the flying stars to see what is negatively affecting them and positively affecting them.

“We are either enhancing that element and making sure it’s stronger or we are trying to negate it because it’s too strong and needs weaking or trying to balance it. It’s like a big, long scale.”

The highlight of her career, Michelle said, is seeing great outcomes for her clients.

“I just really love it! I love it when it works for me and I love it when I get great feedback from clients.

“I just feel better.

“It’s not spiritual. It’s more about the science and the magic. I am a spiritual person and can bring that to it to a certain extent but it’s not something that I bring into the feng shui itself.

“It’s all about intention and the goal… finding out what the client is looking for.

“There are people out there that need this. It’s just finding them and talking to them in their language.”

JAY BIRD

ARTIST

Making beautiful crystal lamps has been an unexpected event in my creative journey. For over 35 years, my creative forays have been linked to the abstract – writing stories, music and shows. Hands on creativity was something I never considered myself capable of, nor had I ever been drawn toward pursuits in these areas.

So, what happened? In 2021, a period of intense stress decimated my writing. Writer’s block moved in and wouldn’t budge for over a year. I felt like a husk without those worlds inside of me. It was a cruel blow, considering I’d just had my first book accepted for publication. Luckily, the creative energy that inhabits some of us, keeps moving. It pulls you out of dark places and into the light. I honestly believe my creativity is an external mechanism. God – the spirit – the divine energy, gives me the desire and energy to create. In turn, I receive enormous mental health benefits and bless others in the process.

Creating soul lights started with the desire to build upon the experience of grounding I received after creating a couple of sculptures from interesting pieces of wood. Sitting on the grass, in the sun and holding timber with old and clean energies, revitalised me. I revisited an idea I had once had to replicate a beautiful crystal lamp I had seen in a shop. These particular light features had been too expensive, but I really wanted one, and so, I decided I’d try and build one myself.

I learnt many new skills and the shed quickly became home to new tools, piles of wood, electrical components and gorgeous crystals and glass. The super charged spiritual blast that came as a result of working with natural elements, was addictive. Making the lights was a calming process of meditation and prayer. As a very energetic person, it pulled me into a less hectic realm and gave me a focus. From walking in the bush to find the wood; to carving and sanding in the sun; to handling the crystals; the entire process

was gratifying and healing.

When I create, prayer and peaceful intentions are infused in the receptive elements I work with. Consequently, I know that each soul light has good energies attached to it and I believe my work blesses people aesthetically and spiritually.

Just recently, my words came back and I started to write again. Busy enough, I considered a life without wood, crystal and light creating, but it didn’t feel right. So, I’m going to continue to create my beautiful lights and participate in markets when I have the time. I have been honoured to make some very special pieces for people by request and had some powerful experiences that have blessed me as a result.

The world we live in, is teeming with low vibrations. More than ever, we move out of sync with our natural orbits. The post 2020 world jolted me into an uncomfortable place of understanding that negative forces are in a state of acceleration. I believe that engaging in high vibrational activities, helps counter this. Making crystal lamps, has been part of a journey of spiritual awakening for me and writing middle-grade fiction, is also another way I use my creativity to splash some joy around. I know that many other creatives out there are doing the same thing, in their own ways. It’s a calling and if you have one, you should listen to it. You never know what you’ll end up doing, but you’ll always know why.

KIMI EXPLORES MULTIDIMENSIONAL SOUND VIBRATION THERAPY

Sound Therapy took me on a fascinating vibrational journey beyond the mind and body.

A sound bath is a definite ‘do’ on the spiritual experience menu – it grabs your brain by the ears and takes your body along for a delightful ride.

Being a first timer on this therapeutic voyage I did not know what to expect and tried to go into my session with Lynn Liniger at “Sound Alive Therapeutics” with an open mind - understanding that relaxation would be assured, and the rest was for me to discover.

Lynn holds a Batchelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Practitioner Level Diploma in Sound Therapy with The (British Academy of Sound Therapy) – as a therapist Lynn explains the science of Sound Therapy and emphasises the way our bodies react to sound and the dynamic structures of cells within the body that calibrate to vibrational frequencies and flows to assist in stress reduction, depression/anxiety, learning difficulties, MS, tinnitus, arthritis and many other chronic conditions.

Sound Therapy is self- healing, the process highlighting what needs to be addressed & healed – the vibration of sound offering space, time and an energetic channel or such awareness and healing to occur within facilitated by Lynn and the various Himalayan and Crystal bowls, percussion instruments, bells,

chimes and her ancient tones which are intuitively ‘played’ in a personalised orchestra as requested by our bodies personalised needs – tailor made just for you using ancient healing techniques combined with modern counselling methods.

I would describe Sound Therapy as a High-Definition sensory experience that is akin to meditation in the way that you tune into the massive influx of energetic and flowing sounds & vibrations in such a way that quickly & efficiently blocks out much of the ‘mind chatter’ or noise that take up residency in the mind during most of our daily lives.

After a brief aromatherapy hand massage, the audio experience began - My mind almost immediately transcending into a darkened tunnel with a water-coloured pastel pink, grey, white, green hued landscape beaconing beyond the corridor. I had a wolf and snake appear to accompany me on the journey as well as some people I needed to say farewell to appear in my sound healing journeywhich opened opportunity to say goodbye and lead them from my energy field and life, freeing myself from the hurt in the process.

Sound Therapy highlighted to me a pain in my pelvis and the aching discomfort of my lower back, my internal organs vibrated unassumingly, the mind soared and my heart opened a little to the sounds Lynn made with her voice and instruments. The process took me on a ride which felt at times like a strange dream. I don’t know if my experience is the “norm”? But I guess it was what my body needed as a reaction to the sound and vibrations.

The sound healing session resembled totem meditations I have previously experienced when I was practising meditation intensively - I assume the sound therapy tapped into that frequency of neurology and

each person would likely have an experience aligned with their own spiritual philosophies, mindset, physical & emotional experiences, and current mental state. Lynn would guide you to what you should expect and where you might journey depending on what your mind & body is adept to experience in the session. I admit on occasions my mind did wander back into familiar territory… thinking about where I needed to go after I left the session, what groceries I had on my mental shopping list, if I should buy a cheesecake from shops or if I had enough time to make an Eton Mess dessert for dinner with our neighbours…

The to-do list, monkey mind thoughts came and percolated but then got ‘jolted out’ with the change of sound frequency which innately captivated my attention with the undeniable intensity and curiosity they demanded - accompanied by an ongoing wash of acceptance.

Acceptance that I could not determine what all the sounds were, or what instrument made them, or where the practitioner was standing around my body. It was a pleasant audio sensory overload which took place of the usual flow of thoughts and thinking patterns resulting in a dynamic and relaxing experience from a place of unknowing acceptance.

Humming, singing, drumming, moving to the beat and immersion in sound experiences like Lynn’s “Sound Alive Therapeutics ” harmony healing can tap into primal and ancient human responses which vibrate our organs, and all the bones in the human body – the cranial bones in the head are most affected by the music in a balancing way promoting health & wellbeing as well as relaxation.

The Thymus gland plays an important role in the immune system, producing T cells which are vital in

reducing spread/growth of viruses whilst preventing disease and enhancing wellbeing. The thymus helps regulate energy flow through the bodies energetic system and initiating energetic improvements and realignments to balance and correct to insure vitality. Research by John Diamond shows that listening to music can instantly stimulate and raise thymus activity with positive benefits. World renowned sound healing pioneer Jonathan Goldman describes the seven secrets of sound healing as being everything is vibration, intent is powerful, we are all unique vibratory beings, silence is golden, our voice is the most healing instrument, there are many notes in a scale and sound can change the world. He states that ‘through understanding and utilizing these 7 secrets, we can begin to experience the enormous power of sound to heal and transform. We can begin to resonate to different frequencies and to explore the vast network of sonic modalities that can be used to create positive change for ourselves and for others’.

Children are known to be very responsive to music and sound. I am sure most parents, grandparents and caregivers know the power of sound & music: familiar song, lullabies, instruments, and musical playto engage, calm, soothe and motivate.

I reflect on when - I established a nightly bedtime routine of playing a cd of lullabies which had a strong, steady human heartbeat back beat - the hope to

soothe my baby and help him sleep well. The process was undoubtedly calming to my babies but also to me when undertaking the nighttime feeding and bedtime ritual.

Listening to the human heartbeat to help regulate our own stress response.

Sound Therapist Lynn Liniger confirms that sound therapy has a positive effect on her client’s health, offering positive results on people with stress related illnesses such as Tinnitus, mental health issues, blood pressure, the autonomic nervous system and in some cases supporting relief of symptoms of chronic illness including cancer and Parkinson’s disease.

I can confirm that I had a spiritual and therapeutic experience when sound bathing at “Sound Alive Therapeutics”, the experience was facilitated by Lynn but ultimately a process of my own mind’s ability to react and respond to vibrations - work towards healing the wounds and stressors I personally carry. The stress has returned and certainly not cured but like any healthy lifestyle change this is not a quick fix rather a process of understanding and addressing one’s needs ongoing.

I hope to have a second session and am interested to see how it varies… I tend to think that each experience would be unique as my body reacts according to its requirements and ability to undertake the clearing, healing, and growing. I think each

WINTER YOGA

Your body will love a juicy winter twist that massages the digestive organs and promotes healthy elimination, while at the same time calming the nervous system.

Half Lord of the Fishes (Ardha Matsyendrasana) is the perfect posture for this blissful internal massage.

Simply sit on the ground with both sit bones grounded evenly. If this is a challenge, come into a supported version by bringing one leg out straight and activated on the mat – see photograph for this variation.

Bring the sole of your right foot to the floor outside your left thigh as you bring your left foot around so the heel is in contact with your right hip.

Inhale as you lengthen the spine and bring opposite

arm to leg, then exhale, twisting through the belly with the gaze either ahead or looking towards the back shoulder.

If you’d like to combat fatigue this winter, Child’s Pose (Balasana) is your go to. It’s such a simple, yet effective posture for everyone.

The ultimate act of surrender, Child’s Pose has great soothing effects on the nervous system. It will help calm the mind, eliminate any unwanted stresses and help you turn within. Start on the knees, bringing them nice and wide if you can. Hinge forward from the hips as you fold forward bringing the hands onto the mat. Stretch the arms out ahead to where they feel most comfortable and the head onto the mat. Try to keep the sit bones connected to the heels. If you can’t it’s okay. For a more restorative and supported variation, come onto a bolster or pillow. Allow the breath to become long and slow as you sink a little further into the earth. Follow each inhale and exhale, surrendering and letting go.

IF IT FEELS RIGHT, GO FOR IT!

The thing I love about money, business and investing is that the data doesn’t lie. It’s there in black and white. Once you learn how to read it, you can then begin to make informed decisions about your next move.

I will always remember the greatest piece of business advice I learned from my old bosses working at an organic barramundi farm in Adelaide, “always take calculated risks.” Some people may read that as “always take risks” and get scared of that statement, but the key word is “calculated.” Take your data, take your statistics, do your numbers, and make sure your goal is close enough that you’re willing to take the risk. That is a personal thing. Not everyone is willing to stick their neck out the exact same length as their friend, their neighbour, or their work colleague etc. And that’s OK. The point is to ascertain what level of risk you’re willing to take and can you mitigate as much as possible to make the move feasible.

Above that, you always want to trust your gut. You can do as much groundwork as possible but if the move doesn’t feel right then go with your gut feeling. I have always crunched my numbers and calculated my risk, but above all I have listened to whether I feel the deal is right for me. It has never steered me wrong in an investing and business perspective. This isn’t to say some things may not go to plan but in the

hiccups is where our lessons lie. To take that lesson and apply it to your next move ups your game. It levels you up for the next decision you need to make, and you now have that experience under your belt to know better next time or tweak what you did last time to get a more favourable outcome.

Your perspective is also at play here. It is easy to be stomped on and feel sorry for yourself when something doesn’t go to plan. We’ve all heard the old “don’t buy an investment property this happened to me horror story,” but that’s just that person’s experience and their perspective on it. If they bought better, rented better, and learned from their lessons they’d not repeat the same mistake on their next property. They’d then have a different story to tell and also a more valuable one. Listen to advice but take what you need from it. Get so knowledgeable on your subject that the only thing you have left to do is take action. Only your lived experience will push you to grow. Your gut will guide you when making bigger moves.

Be smart.

Take calculated risks.

Trust your gut. You only live once.

SOUL AND SPIRIT

We are created body (the physical), soul (the mind, will and emotions) and spirit (matters of the heart) with a free choice as to the path in life we follow.

In his book, ‘The case for Christ’, Lee Strobel describes his journey of faith, finding that the Son of God is indeed ‘the way, the truth and the life’. For him, it became clear that in the perilous times of chaos, confusion and deception that is so prevalent in the world today, there can be found a place of peace and answers to the most searching questions.

While he understands that this new found belief is foolishness to those who are perishing, he acknowledges that many people are looking for wisdom but never come to a full knowledge of the truth, which is spiritually discerned.

Hal Lindsey begins each of his broadcasts with this: ‘When anyone, anywhere, responds to this knowledge by having a desire to know this God, God will move heaven and earth to get the message to him.’

So this month we have especially chosen white linen and cotton pieces from our collections of Italian fashion... white traditionally symbolises purity, respect and reverence.

THE CHALLENGE

Who are you?

In a world where your social media profile knows more about your next move than you do. In a world filled with advertising at every turn- telling you what you should look like, think like, act like. Are you really who you think you are?

Where are you in this moment? Are you here in your body reading this article, or are you where your mind has travelled, re-living the past or pondering the future? Come back for a moment, please. This world is designed to shape us and distract us, but our breath is all we need to come back into ourselves. Close your eyes, take a slow, deep breath in and out, and feel the tug as your body pulls your mind back to the essence of you, feel the stillness, feel who you are without all of the pushing and pulling of the external world. Its nice right here, isn’t it? This IS you. You are home.

The power we hold in living our best life is in knowing who we really are. Experiencing each moment standing firmly in our truth, knowing that our actions can have far-reaching consequences, and whilst the sound of our words may only last a moment, the effects they have can last a life time.

Imagine a world where every single person looked out for one

another. A world where all care was taken to preserve the land we live on. It would be nice wouldn’t it?

Consider that feeling you get when you spend time around fellow loving human beings. The love they emanate is contagious; it seeps out and swallows all of those they come into contact with. It’s impossible to ignore, and it’s hard not to want more.

So it is up to us to be those that spread the love and kindness, to allow our good intentions to sweep out over the world and fill others with the same positive intentions. Filling this world with a light so bright that only a few remaining shadows may be left.

We are at a point in our evolution where the power of our minds can change a situation in an instant. We have the power to create a beautiful world like nothing we have ever experienced. It is up to us to step up and take on the challenge to be better humans, to try that little bit harder, to shine a little brighter, to love a little deeper, and to forgive a little more.

We are the change makers, the way-showers, and we are all here with a deeper purposeare you ready to rise up to the challenge to be the best version of you?

Let’s start by trying that right NOW.

AUGUST INSPIRATION

This month, I want you to feel strong and determined! I remind you to focus on your strengths, and the direction you are moving in. Let go of fear, drama and any other stuff that gets in your way.

Say after me: I am strong and determined. I move beyond all limitations. I flow freely and effortlessly forward.

Capricorn

Dec 22 -Jan 19

Capricorn, you are traveling a well worn road, but this month’s card indicates that you may have to make a decision about which path to take.next. This can be hard, especially when you don’t really know which choice is best..I feel, either way will be beneficial, there is no right or wrong here.

Aquarius

Jan 20 - Feb 18

What a big heart you have, and it has been hurt. This month Aquarius, I feel, it is the right time to piece together and heal life’s past traumas. Keeping yourself in hurt or grief does not allow you to move forward towards a positive future. Remember, go easy on yourself, it is one step at a time, so be patient, forgive yourself, and know bit by bit you can put the pieces together again.

Pisces

Feb 19 - Mar 20

Are you being kind to yourself, Pisces? I get the feeling, you often look after others before yourself. August is the month to start a little self care. Remember, you too are important! Forgiveness is also highlighted this month, so begin with yourself. Treat yourself to a massage or pedicure. Enjoy!

Aries Mar 21 - April 19

Things tell me you are a little entangled at the moment.. Perhaps, you lack direction, are feeling stagnant, and feeling unsure as to which path to take. Time to surrender and put complete trust in the Universe. Keep an eye out for signs, as they will be little hints from the universe that you are on track.. She is guiding you, keeping you in good hands.

Taurus April 20 - May 20

You are absolutely shining this month, Taurus. Be like a movie star, strutting the red carpet, because all the stars are aligning for you. You had better believe it, because I see wheels turning in a positive direction. Shine on!

Gemini May 21 - June 20

Finances are highlighted this month, in a great way, Gemini. Perhaps you are in line for a hefty tax return, or I see there is a collection of some kind. Either way, you are on point with abundance on all levels. There is also a focus on treasure. Mmm, do you need to treasure something?

Cancer June 21- July 22

Why the heavy head Cancer? All I see is worry raining down on you. If you are feeling sorry for yourself, just stop! Could you benefit from a mindset adjustment? Your thoughts and mood are manifesting on subtle levels determining your future. So keep your thoughts positive, practice mindfulness, have fun, and just breathe. You have got this.

Leo July 23 - Aug 22

What has got you fired up Leo? You are certainly worked up about something. Unclench your fists, and relax your shoulders, and hold your forehead with the palm of one of your hands.. This will allow for logical clear thought, and decision making. Is it time for a refresh on your point of view?

Virgo Aug 23 - Sept 22

I declare there are good changes, and new projects afoot this month. Congratulations, you have cracked it, but remember to keep looking forward, and not looking back. I believe you have earned this new chapter in your story book. Get egg-cited!

Libra Sept - 23 - Oct 23

Libra, there is a great opportunity for you to get out of your comfort zone and show your true colours. Be honest with yourself, if there were no limitations, what sort of life would you paint for yourself.? Start thinking about it, because an opportunity just may come your way.

Scorpio Oct 24 - Nov 21

It is important that you take note of communication this month. Check in on your communication skills Scorpio. Are you missing something because you are not listening, or conversing properly?

Also, there could be some important news coming via email or text. Good luck!

Sagittarius

Nov 22 - Dec 21

You are a wary one Sagittarius. It is time to kick these trust issues to the curb, once and for all. An opportunity is indicated to come your way, and it is important to not let past issues of hurt and betrayal cloud your judgement, otherwise you could miss something really good. Think wisely before you act. You have got this!

COULD YOU BE AN EMPATH?

The spiritual theme this month excites me, as spirituality is the field I’ve been working and teaching in for more than thirty years. There’s no doubt that since the 1980s, soulawareness, belief in life after death, energy chanelling, such as Reiki, and trust in our intuition have become more mainstream. I realise these concepts don’t fit everyone’s belief systems. It’s important we each hold true to what feels right for us. However, while my offering a psychic development meditation circle caused people to raise their eyes at me thirty years ago, there’s little reaction today.

At the moment, many individuals are yearning to understand what’s happening to them. They ‘sense’ or ‘feel’ things, only to discover that their impressions were spot on. They don’t know how they knew what they knew, and yet somehow, they did.

Perhaps they sensed a particular friend was in trouble, and this turned out to be correct. Perhaps they sensed an unsettling atmosphere in a room and just had to leave. Perhaps someone called just as they were thinking of that person, or they felt someone’s emotions as if these emotions were their own. The list of examples is endless, but in each case, intuition was at work. Their psychic senses worked like a satellite dish that picked up and accurately interpreted the energy of the situation. An empath is someone whose senses are so finely tuned that they feel what many others do not – energies relating to people, animals, the environment around them, even nature. Empaths don’t need to try to do this. It is likely a gift that they have had for a long time. If you can feel what someone else is feeling, without them sharing through word or their body language, then you could be an empath.

If you are an empath, you probably find crowded, noisy environments overwhelming. Large shopping centres with bright lights and music may confuse and exhaust you. You may need to spend time in nature just to recharge from the stress of daily life, and you may find certain news- stories too painful to watch or hear. You’ll also be a great listener, because you’ll really hear what people are saying to you and will have a deeper understanding of their issues. These intuitive gifts are wonderful, but they come with some risks. Burnout is a problem. If you sense what others are feeling, remember not to take on their issues as your own. This is a real risk because you unconsciously want to help, but another person’s problems are not your responsibility. Allow them the privilege of meeting their own challenges. Support them, but do not lead. It’s also very important not to ‘read’ others all the time. They have a right to their privacy, and even if you can sense personal information, ask yourself if it is ethical to do so. Would you like someone else to do the same to you?

I’d love to write more about this, but my word-limit is up. If you are interested in a Zoom course in developing your intuitive gifts, please email me: michellerobinson2207@ gmail.com. If I have the numbers, I am happy to offer another program.

Have a wonderful month. LIFE CHAT WITH MICHELLE

CHILLY DAYS WON’T STOP US

August fishing can be great here on the Fraser Coast with those chilly mornings reminding us that winter is still here. It won’t be long before we see things heat up and some of our summer species moving around.

Burrum

The Burrum has been fishing fairly well of late casting soft plastics in the upper reaches has been producing flathead, bream, trevally, tarpon and queenfish. Around the mouth flathead can be found between the ramps with live baits getting the better fish. Out the front a few golden trevallies can be found on the 8 mile along with squire.

Wide Grounds

The wide grounds like 25 fathom and the southern gutters have been a good option of late, snapper, sweetlip, trevally, reef jacks, red emperor and parrot have been reported. The grounds over break sea spit have also been producing over recent weeks.

Platypus Bay

The fishing in Platypus Bay has been hard going, snapper have been hard to find over the past few weeks with fishing at night the best bet. Fishing in a berley trail has attracted a few nice snappers, but a lot of effort is required up there at present.

Local Reefs

On the local reefs snapper have been taking cut and live baits on the Arty, with a berley trail also working well to bring in the fish. Sweetlip, blackall and cod have been other catches. For those chasing a feed of squid good numbers can still be found around the Islands of the straits and on the weed beds. Along the western side of Fraser Island.

Sandy Strait

Flathead are beginning to fire in the Sandy Straits, as we move into September, we will see some good fish move onto the flats, letting the bigger fish go is very important to our spawning of flathead so please handle with care when putting the bigger fish back. Whiting, bream, grunter, jew and trevally have been other captures in the Sandy Straits.

Urangan Pier

Off the Pier flathead can be found around the pylons with live pike getting the best results. Out the end longtail tuna have been reported hitting live baits floated under balloons. Bream, golden trevally and squid have been other catches from the Urangan Pier.
