Hoffman LaChance Contemporary
This art gallery, just off the main artery through Maplewood, has been a neighborhood anchor for nearly two decades. It was started by William and Alicia LaChance and Michael Hoffman, all respected artists. Their work can be found in notable collections around the world—and occasionally completely outside of mainstream art circles, like Alicia LaChance’s terrazzo floor at Lambert International Airport.
Gallery visitors may find works from curators Alicia LaChance and Michael Hoffman—the latter had new paintings on display over the summer—but most exhibits feature works from other contemporary painters, photographers, sculptors and mixed media artists. The gallery includes group shows and individual exhibitions, large and small works, and art that uplifts and inspires. The gallery’s pieces hold deep meanings that call upon the viewer to reflect and learn.

Despite its quiet, side-street setting, the gallery is fully in the mainstream of art conversation in St. Louis. Upcoming artists include Jon Cournoyer, head of design at the Saint Louis Art Museum, whose detailed collages invite careful examination; Lauren Marx, who draws the complexity of nature; and Christopher Burch, who explores mythology and rationality.
