Advice
Pension Income: The Options By Independent Financial Advisor Rob Weale from Colwall Back in 2011 I wrote about the changes to Pensions concerning the purchase of a lifetime annuity, and the fact you could delay that purchase and stay invested. I also wrote about the turmoil in the market, annuity rates at an historic low and the need for clients to seek independent financial advice in order to ensure the absolute best method and deal before taking their pension... Well nothing has changed, not the market volatility, not the interest rate, not the historically low annuity rates, and not the need for advice. In this article we will once again explore the options at retirement. Guaranteed Annuities An annuity is affectively a ‘promise to pay’ from an insurance company, whereby you will give them your pension pot and they will give you an income for the remainder of your life. This income level will be determined by a number of factors, age, health, where you live, and then other options, for example indexation, spouse’s benefit and guaranteed periods. Often labelled unfair for a number of reasons, not least because a pensioner dying soon after buying one loses most of their life savings to the annuity provider. Another negative factor is that annuities are at an historic low, a £100,000 pension pot buys an annual income of just £5000pa compared to £10,000 in 1995, meaning you must live at least 20 years to receive your pension pot back. Fixed Term Annuities Fixed Term Annuities provide a guaranteed level of income for a specific term. This approach enables people retiring to enjoy certainty with regard to their income payments, as they would with a Lifetime Annuity, but only for the term selected, rather than throughout life. At the end of the term a Guaranteed Maturity Amount is provided, with which a further Fixed

Term Annuity can be purchased. Alternatively, a conventional Lifetime Annuity or Investment Linked Annuity could also be purchased. Other options may also be allowable at this point dependent upon the pension legislation in force at the time. The Fixed Term Annuity provides future flexibility by offering the ability to change the amount and shape of income at agreed intervals in retirement. Pension Drawdown Consumers have not be forced to annuitize pension savings since 2011 and could, as an alternative, drawdown income as cash lump sums, although there are still rules to be followed. These have been set into place to try and avoid people running out of retirement income and becoming dependent on state benefits. High earners and those on company pension schemes may be given more flexibility under the rules. The income level is linked to similar kinds of rates that would be paid by an annuity, but with a 20% uplift, and one is also able to benefit from investing for longer, have greater investment choice, take ad-hoc payments, changes also give more flexibility to those that do wish to buy an annuity but that want to choose when they do so to try and wait for rises in income rates. There are risks involved though, not least continued market exposure and depletion of funds when drawing an income therefore leaving a smaller pot with which to purchase an annuity in the future. The Right Route What is important, is that proper advice is sought from an Independent specialist, an annuity should always be purchased after comparing the ‘whole of market’, as huge variants can exist in what your current pension provider offers, and the open market. Every policy holder has the right to shop around. With regard the drawdown route, again, an independent specialist will be able to help assess whether a drawdown is suitable, and if so recommend a provider and manage your pension going forward. individual circumstances from the whole of the UK market place. We welcome your enquiry.

a writer in residence
at Malvern Theatres Nick Wilkes is about to take a big risk. He’s giving up his day job to spend more time writing and producing plays. Its not a step he’s taking lightly, but opportunities like this don’t come along every day. Nick’s just been given the role of Writer in Residence at Malvern Theatres, and over the next year he’ll write and produce three plays. ‘We’ll do three and see how it goes’ he says, ‘and of course if it all goes wrong, I can always find a job stacking supermarket shelves!’ Since 2007, Nick’s small theatre company ‘MalvernBard’ has produced and performed ten plays in the Coach House Theatre, a smaller performance space next door to the main theatre in Malvern. The company has steadily built a reputation for entertaining comedies and now the management at the main Theatre is giving them the chance to perform to a larger audience.
10
The first play which opens in September is called ‘Elysian Fields’ and will be Nick’s eleventh play. His first, six years ago was produced on a shoestring, with just a few cardboard boxes as a set. ‘Working in the Coach House Theatre has been amazing’ he says, ‘but moving into the Festival Theatre is a big step up. ‘Over the course of a week, we’ll have nearly 6,000 seats to fill, compared to just a few hundred previously at the Coach House. Its certainly made me take stock of what I’m doing. Its a bit like walking through a gate and into a bigger field, the writing stays the same, but we’ll be working in a far bigger space.’
After Elysian Fields in September, there will be two further productions in 2014. And even in an era of multi-channel television and the internet, Nick’s confident in the enduring strength of live theatre. ‘You can’t beat live entertainment. As a member of the audience, you are emotionally engaged in a way that other forms of entertainment can’t begin to touch.’ ‘Theatre continues to thrive in two forms, there are the big blockbuster shows, and then there’s people like us creating new theatre. I passionately believe in the importance of what we’re doing. After all, if the Beatles had only performed cover versions of other people’s songs, we’d never have enjoyed so many of their classic, enduring songs. I believe we have a similar role to perform in theatre.’ Malvern Theatres is proud to present the first production from their new Writer in Residence Nick Wilkes, Elysian Fields from Tues 17th September.
Over the previous few years, Nick has assembled a working team of actors and technicians. ‘I feel like the perfect team is coming together, John Legg (from Hereford) is a fine director and Murray Andrews is the perfect lead actor. I know these people so well, its helped me to write parts around them, I can hear their voices in my head delivering the lines.’ Malvern Theatres has a tradition of commissioning and staging new work. ‘George Bernard Shaw wrote plays that were premiered here at the Malvern Festival’ says Nick, ‘but that was a long time ago, before the Second World War. I’ve noticed a growing trend of theatres commissioning their own work once again’ Nick continues. ‘The Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham recently commissioned a production of ‘Cider with Rosie’ which went on to tour elsewhere around the country.’ Where do Nick’s ideas come from? ‘My love of whisky was the inspiration behind Radiodram, a comedy based at a small radio station in the Highlands of Scotland. Walking past the duck pond in Priory Park one day, I spotted a shopping trolley in the water that was just out of reach. That set my mind whirring, and out came Sunking, the story of two men at a crossroad in their lives.’
Stephen Fields is having a bad day. In fact he’s having the worst day possible. Although waking in an unfamiliar place, he feels fitter, healthier, and more relaxed than he has for years. Things could seem pretty good… He just doesn’t know how he got here, who brought him here, or why? Worse. He may never leave… Well known to Malvern audiences, Nick’s previous works for Malvernbard have included, Resting, Recovering, Jitters, Sunking, Disconnecting, Oscars, iBard, Three Feet, Casting and Radiodram. Featuring the voice of Simon Callow, best know for his extensive stage and film credits in Shakespeare and Dickens roles, Elysian Fields is not to be missed.
Elysian Fields is at Malvern Theatres from Tues 17th to Sat 21st Sept. Tickets are from £12-£18 with £2 concessions over 60s/ unwaged. Under 26s £8. To book call the Malvern Theatres box office on 01684 892 277 or visit Malvern-theatres.co.uk

Careers Advice at Pitman Training There's an opportunity for some free careers advice at two Open Days at Pitman Training Worcester at the start of September. As well as a CV clinic, you can chat with staff as well as students of the centre and find out more about the variety of courses they offer. 'One of our major advantages is being able to fit training in around our clients' says Jazz Chateau, Director of the centre on New Street, in the heart of the city. 'You can start your course at a moment that suits you, and in many cases come in for training at times that fit in around your life. As well as being open throughout the week, there are two evening sessions in the week and we are open on Saturdays.'
Jazz's background in both business and as a senior lecturer means she is well placed to give advice and encouragement. 'One young woman we helped had left a university course, because she felt it wasn't right for her' says Jazz. 'With our encouragement she enrolled on our Executive PA Diploma which led to her first job. Others want to develop their existing career further, or are planning a return to the job market after a break for children.' 'We're not as expensive as you might think' continues Jazz, 'and we have a number of flexible payment packages. People are often pleasantly surprised when they find out the prices of courses.'
The Training Centre offers more than 250 different courses, covering everything from improving IT proficiency, to management and secretarial skills. Pitman is now working with the Association of Accounting Technicians, giving accounting and finance skills, from short courses to higher level qualifications.
The Open Days at Pitman Training Worcester are on Thursday 5th September from 10am to 8pm, and Saturday 7th September from 9.30am to 5pm. Enjoy a discount on the cost of a course if you come to one of the Open Days at 24 New Street in Worcester.

Outdoor Theatre in Rosebank Gardens Sunday 24th August A special evening of outdoor theatre is planned in Rosebank Gardens over the August Bank Holiday weekend. As You Like It by William Shakespeare is a comedy that’s always popular with audiences. Its being performed by Illyria, a theatre company with a reputation for top quality open air theatre, that perform regularly in many special locations around Britain and abroad. The company has won four international ‘Best Performance’ awards and attracted numerous positive reviews. With its pearls of wisdom, glittering repartee and gloriously happy ending, As You Like It is not only one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays but also the perfect comedy for a summer’s evening. For authenticity the production is performed on a stage based on those used by 16th Century touring companies.
The performance will take place on the level grass area next to the Malvern Buzzards Sculpture in Rosebank Gardens. You are encouraged to bring your own picnic blankets and chairs to make yourself comfortable before settling down to a unique evening of entertainment.
Gates open at 6pm with the performance starting at 7pm. Admission costs £14 adults and £7 for children up to 16 years old. Community focus
Christ Church in Malvern Christ Church, on Avenue Road in Malvern, is a centre of local community life, with dozens of activities taking place. They pride themselves on being friendly and welcoming, not only for people coming to worship but for everyone in the local community and beyond. Angela Green is one of the church’s Deacons and tells us more.
The aim of all our events is to bring people together. We hold a book sale every month with a cafe, which is a great social event as well as an opportunity to pick up a book for very little money. Our sale in June was buzzing with people and we raised more than £200 for a charity that helps children affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. As we move into the autumn, we’ll be running a session where you can come in and make up your Christmas shoe box for the charity ‘Operation Christmas Child’. Every year they send thousands of simple boxes containing toys and other gifts to some of the neediest children in some of the world’s poorest countries. We also have on going sales for Christian Aid. As well as helping others around the world, we help many local people too. We do a lot of work with the local foodbank and have been involved from the start with regular donations of food. We have also teamed up with Community Action to provide teas for the elderly, who come to our church for something to eat and a chat with friends. The Hall adjacent to the church is a lovely space that has just been refurbished. Its very busy and hosts all kinds of activities. One of those is Humpty Dumpty’s, a successful group for parents and their children that meets on Monday and Thursday mornings between 10.00 and 11.35, first visit free and then after that the cost is only £1. Come to our Friday Coffee Shop in the Hall 10 am to 12 noon, everyone welcome. Our church is used by local schools for their Easter and Harvest Festival services, we can seat a congregation of more than 400 people so we are one of the biggest spaces for worship in Malvern. Earlier this year the Scout Service on Saint George’s Day was attended by 550
18
beavers , cubs, scouts and their leaders and their parents. In November every year we hold our All Souls Service, when bereaved families and relatives come together to remember their loved ones. Its a very poignant moment in the church’s year, many of those attending aren’t regular churchgoers but find this service a great comfort. As a church, the help we offer people is more than spiritual. We receive so many kind comments from people we have helped and it is a privilege to offer the hand of friendship to others. Recently we welcomed someone who had recently lost her husband, she said she wished she had known we were here years ago. An exciting part of what we do is to hold music events. The English Symphony Orchestra is now using us as a base for their concerts, which is quite a coup for both us and Malvern. The church offers a beautiful setting for performances with a beautiful acoustic to match. The Civic Society holds monthly talks here, the second Friday in the month, and we were a venue for several different events during Civic Week in July. Our Gift Day in Civic Week was to raise funds for the upkeep and enhancement of our beautiful building, specifically our roof which needs replacing. Donations can still be made until the end of August.
There’s an awful lot going on here and we hope to see you soon. Sunday Service times: 11am. Holy Communion, except 1st Sunday of the month when we have Family Service. We also have an 8am Holy Communion on the 2nd Sunday as well as our usual 11am. Find us on www.christchurch-malvern.org.uk

Malvern Hills Communities Festival
All About...
Celebrating our sustainable future now! The Malvern Hills Communities Festival takes place in September at Malvern Cube. It celebrates the people and organisations working towards the sustainability of our local community. Nathan Burlton is one of the organisers, and tells us more.
Has this been done before? This will be the first Malvern Hills Communities Festival, and its being organised jointly by Transition Malvern Hills, Malvern Hills Repair Café and Malvern Cube. The aim is for a family event across a single day, that will raise awareness of and celebrate local environmental initiatives, of which we there are many in and around Malvern. In particular we want to highlight the efforts of those individuals, voluntary groups and businesses who are contributing to the sustainability of the Malvern Hills communities.
What are the highlights of the Festival? There will be so much going on that its impossible to name a single highlight, but undoubtedly a key moment will be a feature presentation on ideas for Malvern’s first community energy project where we will be asking ‘What possibilities are there for us to generate our own energy in Malvern?’ There will also be a presentation on the latest Zero Carbon Britain research from The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT), a project looking at how future energy demand could be ‘powered down’ so it can be met by renewable energy.
What will there be to see and do?
The event is free and more than twenty local groups will be exhibiting. There will be stalls and local professionals that can offer advice on all areas of sustainable living, from permaculture to solar panels, with food being provided by the in-house vegetarian cafe ‘Vegetopia’. There will be something for all the family, with children’s activities and workshops running throughout the day to make this a positive community event. Anna Clifton, Jeweller & Artist will help children create recycled artwork, Fiona Hopes, a qualified and experienced garden designer will be talking about Permaculture and there will also be a talk about raw food and milk.
22
Is there any musical entertainment? Friends of Community Action are arranging a gig by Harvey Andrews in the evening. Harvey was the first half of a double bill with Gordon Giltrap, part of the Goostrey Arts and Music Festival 2009. He has a wonderful stage presence, intimate and amusing, but also comes with a serious side in his personal, thought-provoking, beautifully crafted songs. The Festival still needs people to get involved, and so if you can spare some time to help, please call (01684) 892581 or email mhcommunitiesfestival@gmail.com.
Malvern Hills Communities Festival is on 21 September 2013, between 10am and 4pm at Malvern Cube on Albert Road North in Great Malvern. The Festival has a Facebook page, facebook.com/ Malvern.Hills.Communities.Festival

Aches and Pains Treatment Clinic at Prospect View Medical Centre Ask the Osteopath
David V Jones BSc(Hons) DO Registered Osteopath
Your questions answered: After 22 years in practice and over 50,000 treatments I have seen many interesting cases.
Topic of the month: Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome What is it?
In osteoarthritis of the hip the pain is commonly felt in the groin and down the front of the thigh or even in the knee. However many patients suffer with pain on the outer side of the hip radiating down the lateral thigh. This is not usually caused by osteoarthritis and is known as Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome. It is often painful to sleep on the affected side.
What causes it?
This condition used to be called Trochanteric Bursitis as it was believed to be caused by inflammation of a fluid filled sac (bursa) that sits on the outer part of the upper thigh bone. However research now shows that only a small number of cases are due to such inflammation. It is currently thought that minor tears and tendon damage of the surrounding muscles especially in the buttock region are the more likely cause. This can be as a result of direct trauma such as a fall onto the area, repetitive irritation seen in This clinic is privately run at Prospect View by David Jones DO. All treatments are drug-free and use techniques recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence.

runners, scar tissue development post surgery, infection, or even a leg length discrepancy (the pain is usually on the long leg side).
Diagnosis Usually the diagnosis is a clinical diagnosis. In other words, no elaborate tests are required. The experienced practitioner will usually be able to make the diagnosis by routine physical examination. Some low back problems may produce similar symptoms.
What can be done?
In the past surgeons often removed the bursa but this was rarely successful. Modern thinking supports a more conservative approach. Anti inflammatory medication and ice packs are often advised. I treat using hands on work to the muscles and tendons and medical acupuncture. I also try to address issues such as leg length discrepancy and provide stretching and strengthening exercises where appropriate. Severe cases may need referral for injection with steroid/local anaesthetic. Initial consultation (with treatment) costs ÂŁ45. Follow-up sessions ÂŁ40. For appointments and enquiries ring on 01684 573989 or 07732 157772. No ache too trivial. No pain too severe.

Well-Being
learning
to relax
By Satya Robyn from Malvern As the weather finally brings us a few sunny days after a long and cold Winter, your mind might be turning to holidays or to lazy weekends. Most of us have these breaks to look forward to, with the promise that we will finally be able to relax. But sometimes when we get to these blank days in our diary or finally arrive on holiday, we don’t relax as easily as we’d hoped. You might be one of those lucky people who finds relaxing easy. But for many of us, it’s not so easy to wind down from the pressures of daily life. Some of this is because we are habitual beings. If we spend much of our weeks cramming in as many jobs as possible, juggling work and family and other commitments, then when we decide to take a break our mind doesn’t know what to do with itself. It feels uncomfortable to be let of the leash, and it might even start looking for things you can worry about so it can feel more comfortable again. Another reason why it can be hard to relax is that when we’re busy, we’re often ignoring uncomfortable feelings or thoughts that need our attention. When there’s nothing to distract us any more these feelings (of sadness, disappointment, confusion or anger) might start coming up. An automatic reaction to this can be to make ourselves busy again, and fast! Taking time out to relax is important – both to help us deal with any difficult feelings that need dealing with, and to allow us the space to build up our reserves and our strength again before we go back to our usual routine. Space for relaxation can also help us take a look at where we are in our lives – what we’re doing, where we’re heading – and change our plans where necessary. It also feels good! Here are my tips to help you practice relaxation. 1. Relax little and often. There are lots of ways you can start to practice mini–relaxation and the more often you practice, the better you’ll get. This might mean taking three slow breaths several
30
times a day, or doing five minutes of mindfulness meditation, or taking a slow walk around the garden every morning, or sitting quietly while you have your tea break, or noticing when you feel tension in your shoulders and consciously hunching them up and then letting them drop. 2. Book in longer opportunities to relax less often. I go on retreat a couple of times a year, when I leave behind the distractions of work and the internet and television to focus on what’s more important. You might want to go on a yoga holiday, or put a whole weekend aside without any appointments, or book an hour during a family holiday when you can walk by yourself. 3. Acknowledge what comes with relaxing. Don’t be surprised if you start to feel physically or emotionally uncomfortable as you start to relax, and be curious about what’s happening – do some journaling, or speak with a friend, or practice noticing the feelings as they arise and sitting with them rather than planning an escape. 4. Focus on something outside of yourself. When we’re caught up in our habits, the most helpful thing we can do is put our focus onto something or someone else. Notice and appreciate the beauty around you. Do something kind for a friend or a stranger. Read a book or go on a walk. Get absorbed by a simple task like doing the washing up or weeding. Allow relaxation to sneak in when you’re not looking! Now, it’s time for me to go on a slow walk around my garden before I get on with the rest of my work. The sunshine is calling me…

Local Walk
A Magical Tour on the Malverns Carl Flint has written three Pictorial Guide Books to our area. This short but fairly strenuous walk takes us through woods and meadows to the pretty hamlet of Whiteleaved Oak, before a steep climb to the summit of Raggedstone Hill.
Walk 4
The white-leaved oak is a tree standing close to a small settlement of the same name, at the southern end of the Malvern Hills. The tree is adorned with all sorts of paraphernalia such as Tibetan Prayer Flags, glass beads and jewellery in the belief that it holds symbolic meaning. The hamlet is said to lie an equal distance from the cathedrals of Worcester, Hereford and Gloucester, while according to some, other ancient Druidic sites such as Stonehenge are aligned in some magical manner to the oak! The supernatural associations of the white-leaved oak have not gone unnoticed. Phil Rickman, a local author with his successful fictional female priest and exorcist Merrily Watkins has based plots around the tree for one of his novels. Whatever you may or may not believe, this is a beautiful corner of the Hills that’s worth exploring.
32
We start at Hollybush car park where the A438 from Eastnor crosses the ridge of the Hills. Heading towards Eastnor, our route turns left through a kissing gate and onto a path through woods, before picking up a path that takes you to the ancient white-leaved oak itself. Heading into the settlement of Whiteleaved Oak, we note the counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire all meet here. A little further on, a steep path to the left takes you to the twin peaked summit of Raggedstone Hill, before another steep path down returns you to the car park. To download the full details of the walk, please to go our website www.allaboutmalvernhills/Local_Life and click the ‘Walks on the Malvern Hills & in Malvern’ window.

Have you written your Will?
Writing your Will is something many people put off as just another chore that can be delayed until another day. St Richard’s Hospice explains there are lots of very good reasons to make your Will, and the sooner it’s done the sooner you can feel happier that your assets will be distributed according to your wishes. • If you die without a Will, there are certain rules which dictate how the money, property or possessions should be allocated. This may not be the way that you would have wished your money and possessions to be distributed.
To take part – simply call your preferred solicitor and make an appointment quoting the “St Richard’s Hospice September Write a Will Scheme”. The local Malvern solicitor taking part is Star Legal on 01684 562526.
• Unmarried partners and partners who have not registered a civil partnership cannot inherit from each other unless there is a Will, so the death of one partner may create serious financial problems for the remaining partner.
For any queries about the scheme please contact Rachel Jones, Corporate Partnerships and Events Fundraiser, St Richard’s Hospice on
• If you have children, you will need to make a Will so that arrangements for the children can be made if either one or both parents die.
01905 763963 ext 2031 or rjones@strichards.org.uk
• It may be possible to reduce the amount of tax payable on the inheritance if advice is taken in advance and a Will is made. • If your circumstances have changed, it is important that you make a Will to ensure that your money and possessions are distributed according to your wishes. For example, if you have separated and your ex-partner now lives with someone else, you may want to change your Will. If you are married or enter into a registered civil partnership, this will make any previous Will you have made invalid. A gift in your Will, however large or small, whenever the time is right for you, will help St Richard’s to continue to care. After your family and friends have been remembered, it gives you the opportunity to leave a gift to St Richard’s Hospice. This gift can have an impact on people’s lives for years to come. £1 in every Will makes a difference. www.strichards.org.uk/giftsinwills

Make a simple* Will during September for only £85 or £135 for a double. For any queries please contact Rachel Jones, St Richard’s Hospice on 01905 763963 ext 2031 or rjones@strichards.org.uk www.strichards.org.uk/writeawill *A simple Will assumes no detailed advice on inheritance tax is required and instructions are taken at the office. The solicitors’ decision is final in this respect.

All About...
Running your own business A steep learning curve, but help is at hand. Do you say ‘I run my own business’ when people ask what you do? Or are you at the stage of ‘I’m thinking of starting up for myself’? There are lots of ways you can find support and help locally, Bronwyn Durand runs marketing agency JupiterJasper in Malvern and has this advice. effectively you invest in marketing activity, the less it becomes a cost, and more a catalyst for business. The clearer your marketing strategy, the easier planning where to best spend your time is. We have a local Marketing Club that meets every month for friendly workshops focusing on the marketing that’s important for small businesses.
It doesn’t matter how experienced you were before; when you are self-employed there are times when you feel overwhelmed by responsibility and things you have to know. But there is also that particular thrill of knowing you are in charge. Once you have taken on the learning curve, you will be better for it. At times it may feel like it’s just the customer in charge. Or the bank. Or HMRC. And then the reality of needing some answers, some support, a magic wand even, may hit. Our business community locally is exciting and supportive. There is talent, creativity, and even some really big ideas that can change the world. How we deploy our respective skills to help and evolve each other as businesses will benefit the entire community. The Malvern area has businesses and organisations that exist to help your business thrive, grow and overcome challenges. Get a handle on numbers and cash flow with a book-keeper or accountant. Refocus and develop your confidence with a business coach. Understand your role as an employer with some HR support. How about crafting your copywriting skills? All these services can be accessed here in our part of the world. As a Marketing Mentor, my advice is the more
42
Perhaps the best place to start is to join a local networking group where you can find support, advice and the right kind of people to connect with. The Malvern Small Business Forum meets every month and has people from a wide variety of business backgrounds. Mumpreneurs is another local group, there’s a Small Business Breakfast Meeting every month in Cradley which is a chance for good food as well as networking! There are local BNI groups, part of a wider international organisation, and there are even local networking groups operating through social media; have a look at #Worcestershirehour which goes live between 8-9pm on Mondays on Twitter. And don’t forget our local councils, who actively work to support the small business sector. Malvern Hills District Council produces a regular newsletter with information on training courses, funding and other opportunities. Small businesses in Herefordshire can look for similar support from their council.
We have created a Business Support section on our website with links to all networks and support mentioned: www.allaboutmalvernhills.com/ business_support Bronwyn Duran offers personal business marketing advice and develops commercial identities for business through her consulting work. Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Paul Papandreou feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving people
money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Malvern, Worcester & Hereford areas and Paul is finding that his approach is a major
factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family of people
I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Paul a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

Malvern Theatres Young Company present Les Miserables School Edition Malvern Theatres Young Company formed entirely of 14-19 year olds will bring to life the epic musical story Les Miserables, recounting the struggle against adversity in 19th century France. Imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread, petty thief Jean Valjean is released from his 19-year term and not only becomes an honest man, but the mayor of a prosperous town and a loving adoptive father - violating his parole in the process. The relentless Inspector Javert, who makes a decent life for Valjean impossible, consequently pursues him. Only years later, after Valjean proves his mettle during a bloody student uprising and saves the life of a young man hopelessly in love with Valjean’s adopted daughter, does the ex-convict finally feel fully redeemed.
