THE FAMILY Allegrini has its roots in Fumane, in the heart of Valpolicella, a land of ancient and noble traditions. Documented as far back as the 16th century, the Allegrini Family has been dedicated to the production of wine for six generations. The family is at the forefront of the development and promotion of the Valpolicella Classica area, supporting the culture and identity of the region. The company experienced a profound transformation in the 1960s at the hands of Giovanni Allegrini. Recognised as one of the major players in the rebirth of Valpolicella, Giovanni mastered the art of winemaking, rigorously selecting the grapes and introducing important innovations in viticulture and winemaking. The company’s legacy was then passed on to his children, Walter, Marilisa and Franco, who have been able to adopt, develop and pass on the work of their father with passion and enthusiasm, making Allegrini and Valpolicella renowned all around the world. In recent years, the company has expanded significantly with two flagship projects: Poggio al Tesoro in Bolgheri and San Polo in Montalcino, as well as launching the Corte Giara range of wines. Allegrini’s headquarters and hospitality venue are at Villa Della Torre in Fumane di Valpolicella.
THE TERROIR
CUSTODIANS OF BIODIVERSITY
Valpolicella Classica is one of the most prestigious winegrowing areas in Italy. Located in the westernmost part of the Veneto region, between Verona and Lake Garda, it borders the Mountains of Lessinia to the north.
Allegrini has achieved Biodiversity Friend certification year on year since 2017, a quality seal that recognizes the close attention the company pays not only to the vines but also to the animals and insects that populate the countryside and to their natural habitat.
It is supremely well-suited to the production of high-quality wines. Thanks to its hillside position, it is characterised by a mostly chalky soil and a mild climate. The vineyards are arranged on terraces called marogne, which form a backdrop to the area’s beautiful villas, ancient churches and stone villages, testifying to an age-old culture and lifestyle.
In 2019 the company acquired Equalitas certification in recognition of the sustainability of its supply chain with regard to the environment, society and the economy, which also involves its entire network of suppliers. In 2021, it began constant monitoring of water consumption in vineyards and embarked upon the traceability of its carbon footprint, a process that quantifies CO2 emissions with the aim of rationalizing and possibly neutralizing them by means of other agronomic practices.
The Allegrini Family owns about 150 hectares of vineyards in Valpolicella Classica, in the municipalities of Fumane, Marano, San Pietro in Cariano and Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella, all located in medium and upperhillside locations, signifying and guaranteeing exceptional quality. Lugana Oasi Mantellina represents a new challenge for the Family, which has purchased 40 hectares of land in the municipality of Pozzolengo.

Valpolicella Superiore is one of the great traditional wines from Verona, well-known and loved for its moderation and elegance. It owes its ‘superiority’ to its ageing in oak, which helps to enrich its structure and complexity.

WINEMAKING AND AGEING The wine is produced using the double fermentation technique. Most of the grapes are vinified as soon as they are harvested, while the remainder is set aside to partially dry (appassimento). In January, the wine, blended with the pressed, dried grapes, undergoes a second fermentation. It is then aged in French oak barriques for 15 months. The ageing process continues in large casks for 2 months and then for 7 months in the bottle. TASTING NOTES This wine is elegant and well balanced, with a good structure and aroma. Ruby red in colour with purplish hues, it opens with refined notes of vanilla, black pepper, cloves and aromas of raisined grapes. It is velvety on the palate, with soft tannins and a long and lingering finish. PAIRINGS Risotto with mushrooms and sausage, Amatriciana and Carbonara pasta dishes, platters of ham and dry-cured pork, roast pork and veal, Parmigiano Reggiano and Monte Veronese cheese. Serve at 18°C and open one hour before serving.

LA POJA
Corvina Veronese I.G.T.

TASTING NOTES It is a stylish and sophisticated wine, with an elegant profile and great longevity. The enveloping and intense aroma reveals ripe but still-fresh fruit, followed by notes of toasted tobacco, dark spices and liquorice. FIERAMONTE
Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva D.O.C.G.
Fieramonte exemplifies the story of Valpolicella and its most valued traditions, with an identity firmly based on its steep southfacing slopes, and on the stubbornness of man who has always harnessed the best from these lands. Giovanni Allegrini, the Company’s founder and father of Walter, Marilisa and Franco, was proud of the vineyard’s upper hillside location and its fortunate exposure to the east, where the ripening of the grapes is very balanced because – as he often repeated – having chased away the shadows of the night, the morning sun re-awakens nature and gently caresses the grape clusters.

TASTING NOTES This Amarone cru, with its intense and compact ruby red colour, opens boldly, with broad aromas of toasted coffee and tobacco. The palate is striking for its imposing structure. The tannins are well-defined but not aggressive, accompanied by fresh, vivacious acidity that lengthens and streamlines the mouthfeel. PAIRINGS Fieramonte goes well with ‘bold’ dishes from the most diverse gastronomic traditions. In Italy, it is ideal with meats and game, while it also pairs perfectly with the spicy and sweet-sour dishes of Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine due to its distinct hints of dried grapes.
