Sustainable design of architecture
2011/2012
Concept: FROM CLOSED YARD TO EXPLOdED BLOCKs
Studio leaders: Franco Lattes, Carlo Micono, Gabriella Peretti, Rosa Rita Maria Tamborrino Location: Ex-Avio, Torino Site area: 317,000 sqm Aim of the project: review of the project of Massimiliano Fuksas for the new business center of the Piedmont Region. Keeping as a benchmark the presence of the new Piedmont Region tower and the square in front of it, the request was to propose alternative functions for the areas surrounding area. Sustainability in 5 points: -urban vegetable gardens, -green spaces, -winter gardens, -prefabricated structures, -duplex system.

Urban Planning
2011/2012 Context site
Studio leaders: Riccardo Bedrone, Sarah Isabella Chiodi, Roberto Monaco Location: Ex-Scalo Vanchiglia - Variante 200 Site area: 870,000 sqm Aim of the project: urban redevelopment of the area, with particular attention to the focal points of the big trench and the monumental cemetery, to the intended use (cf. Variante 200 - officiale document) and to the urban accessibility.
Linear park and green areas
Of particular focus are the management and the planning of the park and the creation of promenades, in order to solve the whole space and divide it in horizontal areas. They give rise to particular multiporpouse spaces. Note the prevalence of green as a concept of the project, a symbol that shows a revenge of nature over man.

MASTER OF ARCHITECTURAL STUDIO: 2013 Refining Kurnell
Studio leaders: Leena Thomas, Amelia Holliday Location: Kurnell Peninsula, NSW Australia Site area: 1240000 mq Aim of the project: the soon to be decommissioned Caltex Oil refinery at Kurnell Peninsula in Botany Bay is a contested site. We developed firstly a methodology for mapping the site and secondly proposed a strategy for architectural intervention that simultaneously remediates these conflicting conditions whilst positing an alternate future for the precinct. The general idea is to introduce into the site a number of new features that would attract people to the area, and especially those from the nearby city of Sydney. I came up with the idea of inserting a small university complex, a department of University of Sydney focused on botany and marine studies.

SITE FUNCTIONS
FINAL THESIS: 2013 MOPI:Museum of Perth Immigration. Immigrants social, cultural and financial experiences past and present.
Studio leaders: Franco Lattes, Elizabeth Karol Location: 92 Roe St, Northbridge, Perth Area, WA, Australia Site area: 4000 mq Aim of the project: I had to design a multipurpose building in a inner suburb of the city of Perth, Northbridge. I had to understand what the district needed, why and which area needed more attention to solve specific problems. My idea was to compare the cities of Turin and Perth. I found some specific key points, like the question of immigration and the reuse of an existing building. I have ended up with a design of a building that besides to fulfill its immigrantoriented tasks (such as promoting diverse cultures), can also offer an important example of sustainability.

Tutors: Peter Hoobs, Anastasios (Tasio) Coki Araia, David Lock In collaboration with: Luigi Bonora Location: Kings Square, Fremantle WA 6160 Australia Site area: 4000 mq Aim of the project: the district of Freemantle needed an improvement of the central Kings Square and a rethink of the accessibility of the precinct. The specifity of the project had to aim to design a new house for public functions(library, administration offices, City of Freemantle offices) and an integration of the existent historic town hall. The project considers 5 points: -renovation rescue: new city rooms, -all streets do not lead to Kings Squre, -public spaces, public life, -celebrating the heritage, -a new home for play, civic life and living.

DESIGN PROPOSAL_RECONNECTION BETWEEN THE CASTE AND VIA PIANEZZA
With the participation of: Legambiente Torino, City of Turin, Arch. Arturo Bracco Location: Torino, Italy We believe that with the possible extension of the existing tunnel, reaching a certain height in order to avoid the expected overflowing of the river Dora, you would achieve: 1. mitigation of the vulnerability of the tunnel during heavy floods; 2. you could create a park at the ground level in order to achieve adequate levels of mutual accessibility of the areas of the Castle, of Via Pianezza and of urban settlements on top and of green equipped areas; 3. improve landscape quality and environmental requirements of the areas in relationship with Castle Lucento, which has been classified as an asset of historical and architectural interest since 1910.

The facade aims to give a sense of verticality and a sequence of trees. Four triangular atriums with smoothed corners improve the natural ventilation and natural light, and they divide the rectangular shape of the block in several areas. An open and green court on the semibasement level connects the building with the external space.
