INTRODUCTION WEATHERED BY NORTH CHINA’S HARSH CLIMATE AND ISOLATED AMIDST THE DRY AND BARREN LANDSCAPE OF THE MOUNTAINS THIS ANCIENT BUDDHIST MONASTERY HAS MEDITATED ITS WAY THROUGH TIME BUT BARES THE MARK OF ITS BRUTAL SURROUNDING. IN AN ATTEMPT TO BRING LIFE TO THIS ANCIENT SECLUDED BUDDIST MONASTERY AND EXPAND ITS FUNCTIONS MAKING IT MORE HABITABLE, THE GOVERNMENT AND DEVELOPER PROVIDED OUR TEAM WITH AN OPPORTUNITY TO RENOVATE IT. USING EARTHY MATERIALS WE HAVE TRIED TO PROVIDE A GREAT MEDITATION SPACE IN THE FORM OF THIS COMPLEX. THE EXISTING BUILDINGS WHICH HAVE BECOME A PART OF THE LANDSCAPE HAVE BEEN RESTORED FROM THE OUTSIDE AND TRANSFORMED FROM THE INSIDE WITH MINIMAL MODIFICATIONS. FEW ADDITIONAL BUILDINGS IN THE FORM OF A SERENCE MEDITATION TEMPLE AND A DISMANTLEͳABLE OFFICE AND ORIENTATION CENTRE MADE OUT OF WOOD AND ACRYLIC SHEETS HAVE BEEN PROPOSED FOR THIS COMPLEX.

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, THIS SPACE CAN ACCOMODATE SMALL BATCHES OF PEOPLE WHO COULD TAKE ABODE IN THIS MINIMAL, PEACEFUL PLACE AND MEDITATE AS WELL AS GET A CHANCE TO ENRICH THEIR KNOWLEDGE ON BUDDHISM. MONOLITHIC PILLARS WHICH HAVE BEEN PARTIALLY DEMOLISHED OR UNDER RUINS HAVE BEEN REINSTATED TO FORM THE CENTRAL ARCHEOLOGICAL PARK OF THE COMPLEX.

INTRODUCTION A PUBLIC BUILDING FOR THE CITY & SPECIFICALLY TO CATER TO THE NEEDS OF ELDERLY PEOPLE AS WELL AS WOMEN AND CHILDREN WERE THE DESIGN GUIDELINES FOR THE PROJECT. BASED ON THE ACCESSABILITY AND SAFETY OF USER GROUPS OF THE STRUCTURE IS PLANNED WITH ALL THE ACTIVITIES ON THE GROUND LEVEL AND OFFICIAL SPACES ON THE FIRST LEVEL. TO MAXIMIZE THE POTENTIAL AND EXPLOIT EVERY SQUARE INCH OF BUILT SPACE WE DEVISED A METHOD TO PROVIDE A CIRCULATION LOOP WHICH NOT ONLY TRAVERSES THROUGH THE SITE ON THE GROUND LEVEL BUT ALSO BRIDGES THE ROOF LEVEL OF THE BUILDINGS WITH THE GROUND LEVEL. THIS FACILITATES IN CREATING A CENTRAL CORDONED OFF SEMIͳPRIVATE PLAY / RECREATIONAL AREA FOR THE DESIRED USER GROUP ͳ ELDERLY AND CHILDREN WHILE THE TERRACE AND EXTERNAL PLAZAS CONNECT A CONTINUOUS LANDSCAPE FOR THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY. A DOUBLE GLAZED FORMAL FACADE ON THE EXTERIOR CUTS OUT THE NOISE AND CHAOS OF THE CITY WHILE THE PLAYFUL COLOURED GLASS LOUVERS ON THE INTERIOR FACADE LIVENS UP THE ATMOSPHERE THUS PROVIDING A VERY RELAXING AND VIBRANT ACTIVITY AREA.

THE BUILDING VERY EFFICIENTLY PROVIDES VARIOUS ACTIVITIES PUBLIC & PRIVATE COͳEXISTING WITHOUT COMPROMISING ON THE PRIVACY OR SOLITUDE OF MAIN USER GROUPS. SINCE THIS BUILDING IS FUNDED BY THE GOVERNMENT WE WORKED ON A DESIGN SOLUTION TO PROVIDE A HUGE DIGITAL WALL ON THE SOUTH WEST FACADE OF THE BUILDING WHICH COULD BECOME A SOCIAL GATHERING AREA FOR THE CITY. DESIGNED TO BE A PART OF THE CITY ROUND THE CLOCK THE BUILDING EFFICIENTLY ACCOMODATES ANY ACTIVITY CHALLANGE BESTOWED UPON IT

INTRODUCTION THE EXISTING TV STATION IN BAOTOU HAS BEEN ONE OF THE LANDMARK BUILDINGS UNTIL RECENT DEVELOPMENTS. THE MODERN DEVELOPMENTS SURROUNDING THE SITE CALLED FOR A FACADE RENOVATION TO THIS ICONIC BUILDING OF THE CITY. A STUDY ON THE WEATHER AND CULTURE OF MONGOLIA AND TRYING TO FIND A DESIGN STRATEGY WHICH WOULD NOT ONLY AESTHETICALLY FACE LIFT THE PROJECT BUT ALSO BECOME A CULTURAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL LANDMARK OF THE CITY WE STARTED STUDYING THE TRADITIONAL YURTS AND FABRIC STRUCTURES. THIS LED TO THE CREATION OF A SINGLE RECTANGULAR WRAP AROUND THE ENTIRE BUILDING THUS PROTECTING IT FROM HARSH WINDS AND AT THE SAME TIME THE HUGE FABRIC STRUCTURE BECOMES AN ICONIC, MINIMAL, PURE VOLUME AND AN EXCEPTIONAL MEDIUM FOR VIDEO MAPPING. THIS WOULD TRANSFORM A TV STATION FROM A BROADCASTING CENTRE TO A FESTIVE CENTRE CELEBRATING VARIOUS CULTURAL & POLITICAL MILESTONES OF THE CITY.

BAOTOU TV STATION FACADE DESIGN | BAOTOU CITY | CHINA | 2014-15 DESIGN ARCHITECT CONCEPT | FACADE DESIGN | STRUCTURAL SYSTEM | 3D MODEL | PRESENTATION BIAD [BEIJING INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN]

THUS THE PROPOSED MODERN VERNACULAR DESIGN WAS OUR BID FOR THE PROJECT. THIS PROJECT PROPOSAL WAS SELECTED AND AWARDED TO OUR TEAM BY THE CLIENTS AND IS CURRENTLY UNDER EXECUTION AND FEASIBILITY PROCESS.

TAKING CUES FROM THE VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE OF THIS REGION WE DEVELOPED A SKIN WHICH PROVIDES AN IDENTITY AS WELL AS CULTURAL REFERENCE TO THE TV STATION

ADOPTING THE STRUCTURAL CONCEPT FROM THE TRADITIONAL YURTS TO A LARGER AND DYNAMIC SCALE IS AN ATTEMPT TO TRANSFROM THE FRAMES INTO A SCULPTURAL ENTITY & CELEBRATE TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS.

VIDEO MAPPING VIDEO PROJECTION MAPPING, ALSO KNOWN AS VIDEO MAPPING AND SPATIAL AUGMENTED REALITY, IS A PROJECTION TECHNOLOGY USED TO TURN OBJECTS, OFTEN IRREGULARLY SHAPED, INTO A DISPLAY SURFACE FOR VIDEO PROJECTION. THESE OBJECTS MAY BE COMPLEX INDUSTRIAL LANDSCAPES, SUCH AS BUILDINGS, SMALL INDOOR OBJECTS OR THEATRICAL STAGES. BY USING SPECIALIZED SOFTWARE, A TWOͳ OR THREEͳ DIMENSIONAL OBJECT IS SPATIALLY MAPPED ON THE VIRTUAL PROGRAM WHICH MIMICS THE REAL ENVIRONMENT IT IS TO BE PROJECTED ON. THE SOFTWARE CAN INTERACT WITH A PROJECTOR TO FIT ANY DESIRED IMAGE ONTO THE SURFACE OF THAT OBJECT.Ί1΋ THIS TECHNIQUE IS USED BY ARTISTS AND ADVERTISERS ALIKE WHO CAN ADD EXTRA DIMENSIONS, OPTICAL ILLUSIONS, AND NOTIONS OF MOVEMENT ONTO PREVIOUSLY STATIC OBJECTS. THE VIDEO IS COMMONLY COMBINED WITH, OR TRIGGERED BY, AUDIO TO CREATE AN AUDIOͳVISUAL NARRATIVE.

TRADITIONAL MONGOLIAN YURT WITH ITS FABRIC EXTERNAL TENTS PROVIDES INSULATION AND IDENTITY TO THESE MONGOLLIAN DWELLINGS

THE IMMENSELY ARTISTIC INTERNAL STRUCTURE SUPPORTING AND STRENGTHENING THESE FABRIC TENTS FROM THE HARSH CLIMATE OF MONGOLIA ARE AN INSPIRATION

INTRODUCTION PRESENTLY, ITΈINFORMATION&TECHNOLOGYΉ COMPANIES WANT TO CREATE A WORK ENVIRONMENT WHICH STANDS APART AND IS COMFORTABLE AND WELCOMING. THIS CLIENT COMPANY INTENDS TO TAKE IT A NOTCH UP BY ALLOWING THE CANDIDATES TO GET A FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE OF THE COMPANY’S WORK CULTURE AND ENVIRONMENT RIGHT FROM THE TIME THEY GO THROUGH THE RECRUITING PROCESS. THIS WAS THE DESIGN BRIEF WHICH WAS PRESENTED TO US AND WE HAD TO CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE THE CANDIDATES CAN TAKE A BREATHER AND FORGET THE COMPETITIVE AND LONG ΈA DAY LONGΉ RECRUITING PROCEDURES WHILE THEY ARE AT THE CANDIDATE EXPERIENCE CENTRE. WE PROPOSED A LOCATION RIGHT IN THE HEART OF THE COMPANIES WORK HEADQUARTERS WHEREIN THE CANDIDATES CAN GET A GLIMPSE OF THEIR FUTURE WORK CULTURE AND AT THE SAME TIME FEEL SECURE AND AT PEACE. A WAFFLE WOODEN STRUCTURE WHICH ACTS AS A PARTITION BETWEEN THE OFFICE AND THE CANDIDATE EXPERIENCE CENTRE DOUBLES AS A STORAGE AND ACTIVE MULTIPURPOSE AREA THUS OPTIMIZING THE SPACE AND CREATING A PLAYFUL SURFACE FOR THE END USER.

INTRODUCTION LOCATED ON THE COAST OF KERALA IN CALICUT AND BLESSED WITH A SCINTILLATING VIEW OF THE SEA, THIS HOUSE IS AN ANCILLARY UNIT TO THE MAIN HOUSE. THIS HOUSE, INTENDED TO BE A GUEST AND YOGA HOUSE FOR THE CLIENTS. HENCE IT TAKES A SIMPLE LAYOUT WITH THE SERVANTS QUARTER, A KITCHEN, LIVING ROOM AND A BEDROOM IN THE GROUND FLOOR AND THE TOP FLOOR SERVES AS A READING AND YOGA ROOM. THE FOLDED CONCRETE ROOF TWISTS THE TOP FLOOR TO MAXIMIZE THE VIEW TO THE SEA. THE HOUSE BEING ON A PRIVATE PLOT HAS A GLASS FACADE LEAVING THE HABITANTS TO CONTINUOUSLY ENJOY THE NATURE AROUND THEM. LOW COST AND LOCAL MATERIALS HELPED CONTROLLING THE COST OF THE PROJECT AND MAKING THE PROJECT A LOCALͳ GLOBAL DESIGN. INTRODUCTION CRAWFORD MARKET ͳ A STRUCTURE BUILT DURING THE COLONIAL RULE IN INDIA IS A PRESENTLY A UN ΈUNITED NATIONSΉ HERITAGE BUILDING. THE COMPLEX INCLUDED SMALL ISOLATED SHOPS INSIDE THE COMPLEX OTHER THAN THE GOTHIC STRUCTURE HOLDING FRUIT AND CONDIMENT SHOPS. THIS COMPLEX OVER A PERIOD HAS SEEN A HIGH LEVEL OF ENCROACHMENT AND IS PRESENTLY A MAJOR MARKET FOR FRUITS, VEGETABLES, CONDIMENTS AND MEAT. THIS ENCROACHMENT ACTS AS A THREAT TO THE HISTORIC STRUCTURE AND HAS BEEN A MAJOR CAUSE FOR THE DETERIORATION OF THE COMPLEX.

CRAWFORD MARKET REDEVELOPMENT | MUMBAI CITY | INDIA | 2009-10 DESIGN ARCHITECT - COLLABORATOR CONCEPT | DESIGN DEVELOPMENT | FACADE AND SPATIAL ANALYSIS | 3D MODEL & RENDERING | PRESENTATION G.D. SAMBHARE ARCHITECTS PVT. LTD.

TO TACKLE THIS ISSUE AND ORGANIZE THE ACTIVITIES EFFICIENTLY THE GOVERNMENT ALLOWED A PROPOSAL WITH AN FSI OF 4 TO REALLOCATE THESE ENCROACHED SHOPS AND ALSO INCLUDE A FEW MORE COMMERCIAL AND OFFICE SPACES IN THE COMPLEX. THIS NEW CONSTRUCTION WAS PROPOSED AT A DEAL BY THE HERITAGE COMMITTEE THAT THE NEW STRUCTURE DOES NOT BECOME A BACKDROP TO THE HERITAGE TOWER. TAKING THIS AS A CUE FOR DEFINING THE NEW CONSTRUCTION VISION LINES FROM HUMAN HEIGHT ALONG THE AREAS WERE TAKEN TO PROVIDE THE VIEW OF THE TOWER AGAINST THE SKY AT ALL TIMES. THESE VISION LINES DEFINE THE CONTOUR OF THE BUILDING AND HENCE ITS EVENTUAL LEVELS. THESE TERRACES GAVE SCOPE TO INTRODUCE TERRACE LANDSCAPING AND OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES ALONG WITH THE INTERNAL COMMERCIAL OR RECREATIONAL SPACE. THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE ACTIVITIES INCLUDED ALLOCATING A TRIPLE LEVEL UNDERGROUND PARKING; LOWER FOUR LEVELS REALLOCATING THE EXISTING SHOPS WITH HYGIENIC WORKING AND STORAGE CONDITIONS FOR THE MEAT,VEGETABLES AND FRUIT VENDORS. THE TOP FLOOR ARE LEASED OUT AS OFFICE AND COMMERCIAL SPACES BY THE BUILDING AGENCY.

INTRODUCTION SPROUTING FROM A SEA OF DUNES, THE DESERT BLOOMS BRING LIFE, MOVEMENT AND COLOUR IN A JOYOUS CELEBRATION OF NATURE AND HER MYRIAD POSSIBILITIES. GIANT FLOWERS GENTLY FOLLOW THE PATH OF THE SUN, AND SETTLE DOWN OVER THE DUNES FOR THE NIGHT; THE DUNES SHELTER PEOPLE AND THEIR ACTIVITIES, MANY OF WHICH HELP TEND THE FARM AND KEEP IT THRIVING. THE PRIMARY COMPONENT OF THE DESERT BLOOMS IS A SINGLE FLOWER, THAT IS A GAS FILLED BALLOON THAT WORKS AS A SOLAR CONCENTRATOR DEVICE. SOLAR CONCENTRATORS IN GENERAL, ARE HEAVY, GROUND MOUNTED, MIRROR BASED SYSTEMS THAT REQUIRE TO BE SITUATED ON VAST TRACTS OF OPEN, UNINHABITED LANDS. THE FLOWER IS BASED ON A DESIGN OF A SOLAR CONCENTRATOR THAT IS LIGHT WEIGHT, DOES NOT OCCUPY MUCH GROUND SPACE, IS LOW COST AND MODULAR.

DESERT BLOOMS - LAND ART GENERATOR INITIATIVE COMPETITION | DUBAI CITY | UAE | 2009-10 DESIGN ARCHITECT CONCEPT | TECHNOLOGICAL STUDY | LANDSCAPE DESIGN | 3D MODEL & RENDERING | PRESENTATION SELF - COLLABORATION

BUILT OF GAS FILLED POLYMER CELLS MOUNTED ONTO A LIGHTWEIGHT METALLIC FRAME, THE LOWER SURFACE OF THE CELLS IS PROVIDED WITH AN ASYMMETRIC PRISMATIC PATTERN TO FOCUS ALL INCIDENT RADIATION ONTO A SOLAR RECEIVER BELOW. THE BALLOON IS TETHERED DOWN AND BRACED AGAINST WIND PRESSURE BY CABLES AND A CENTRAL TRIO OF PYLONS HAT ALSO HELP MAINTAIN A FIXED ASPECT BETWEEN THE BALLOON AND THE SOLAR RECEIVER AT THE BASE AT ALL TIMES. THE SAME CABLES ARE CONTROLLED IN LENGTH AT THE BASE TO PROVIDE FOR SOLAR TRACKING ACROSS THE DAY, AND ACROSS SEASONS. THE BALLOONS THEREFORE MOVE ACROSS THE SKY THROUGH THE DAY, AND A MOTORIST DRIVING BY IN THE EVENING WOULD SEE A TOTALLY DIFFERENT ALIGNMENT OF BALLOONS FROM WHAT HE WOULD HAVE SEEN IN THE MORNING. WHILE THE BALLOONS DO NOT NEED ANY PARTICULAR FORM OF BASE SO LONG AS IT IS RIGID, THE DESERT BLOOMS DEVELOP ON THE IDEA OF A BASE TO ITS ADVANTAGE. THE LAND ART GENERATOR PROJECT IS SEEN AS ONE THAT STIMULATES AND DRAWS PEOPLE’S ENGAGEMENT AS INVOLVED PARTICIPANTS IN THE WORK, AND NOT AS PASSIVE SPECTATORS.

INTRODUCTION MOST HOUSES IN INDIA ARE REPLICATIONS OF EACH OTHER MAKING THEM INDISTINGUISHABLE FROM ONE ANOTHER. MOST INHABITANTS TRY TO PERSONALISE / CREATE AN IDENTITY OF THEIR HOUSE BY EITHER CHANGING THE GRILLS, ADDING POTTED PLANTS, ETC. EVEN THE AC DUCTS AND DRYING CLOTHES MAKE ONE HOUSE DISTINGUISBABLE FROM THE OTHER GIVING EACH OF THEM A SEPARATE CHARACTER. THE GRID HOUSE VERY EASILY THROUGH ITS CUSTOMIZABLE INFILLS PROVIDES A USER TO PERSONALISE HIS/ HER HOUSE MAKING EACH HOUSE FROM A SERIES OF GRID HOUSES DISTINCT AND AN IDENTITY OF ITS OWN. MATERIALITY OF INFILLS CONTEXTUALITY ͳ BY LEAVING THE INFILL UPTO THE USERS CHOICE, ALLOWS THE GRID HOUSE TO BE CLADDED WITH MATERIALS CORRESPONDING TO THE LOCAL AVAILABILITY IN ANY PART OF THE COUNTRY. THUS MAKING CONTEXTUALITY ΈURBAN, SUBͳURBAN, RURALΉ A STRONG DESIGN FACTOR.

THERMAL INSULATION ͳ THE INFILL MATERIAL, DEPENDING ON THE CLIMATIC CONDITION BE THICKER FOR THERMAL INSULATION OR BE THIN AND TRANSPARENT FOR HEAT GAIN, REDUCING THE OVERALL ENERGY CONSUMPTION OF THE HOUSE. STORAGE ͳ A LOT OF SPACE IN A HOUSE IS USED IN STORAGE SPACES. THE GRID HOUSE FACADE ALLOWS TO INCORPORATE STORAGE WITHIN ITSELF THUS FREEING UP MORE SPACE AND USING THE INTERIOR SPACE MORE EFFICIENTLY. THE STROGE UNITS CAN EITHER PROTRUDE ON THE EXTERIOR OR BE FLUSHED CREATING A PLAY OF MASSES ON THE FACADE ITSELF. INFILL POSSIBILITIES

INTRODUCTION LOCATED IN A VICINITY SURROUNDED BY CHURCH BUILDINGS BUILT IN A MINGUO STYLE OF ARCHITECTURE IN THE NORTH AND WEST , A HOSPITAL COMPLEX TO THE EAST AND RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX TO THE SOUTH , THIS REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT POSES A CHALLENGE TO DESIGN A CULTURAL CENTRE IN THE CENTRE WHICH COULD PROMOTE CHRISTIANITY AND AT THE SAME TIME PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE QUALITY RECREATIONAL SPACES TO THE CITY. STUDYING THE EXISTING SCENARIO WE DEVELOPED A STRATEGY WHEREIN THE NEW DEVELOPMENT DOES NOT COMPETE WITH THE CLASSICAL ARCHITECTURE OF THE EXISTING CHURCH COMPLEX BUT TAKES CUES FROM THE SAME. SINCE NONE OF THE PROPOSED BUILDINGS WOULD HAVE A FACADE FACING THE CITY WE PROPOSED A DESIGN WHICH WAS SUBMERGED IN THE GROUND THUS NOT COMPROMISING ON THE LIGHT OR VENTILATION QUALITY OF THE SURROUNDING BUILDINGS , INSTEAD PROVIDING A GREAT LANDSCAPE FOR THE CITY. THE PROJECT INCLUDES A SMALL AUDITORIUM, AN UNDERGROUND LIBRARY AND EDUCATIONAL SPACES WHICH ARE ALL SUBMERGED THUS REDUCING ITS DEPENDENCY ON AIR CONDITIONING BUT HAVE AMPLE LIGHT WELLS THAT COULD MAINTAIN A HEALTHY LIGHT QUALITY DURING THE DAY. THE AUDIOTORIUM FORMS THE CULMINATION POINT OF THE CENTRAL PLAZA WITH ITS SHIMMERING TINTED GLASS WHICH TAKES ITS INSPIRATION FROM THE ROSE WINDOWS OF GOTHIC ARCHITECTURE. THE LIBRARY AND OTHER SPACES HAVE A COMPLETE GLASS FACADE WITH TWO HUGE LIGHT WELLS WHICH FLOOD THE SPACE WITH NATURAL LIGHT. THIS EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL COMPLEX SUBMERGED IN THE GROUND CONTAINS ITS TRAFFIC AND SOUND THUS KEEPING THE RESIDENTIAL AND HOSPITAL NEIGHBOURS PEACEFUL. THE ARTIFICAL LANDSCAPE ABOVE THE LIBRARY AND EDUCATION CENTRE BECOMES A PUBLIC SPACE FOR THE NEIGHBOURHOOD AS WELL AS THE CITY.

-ADDING BUILDINGS TO THE ALREADY DENSE NEIGHBOURHOOD WOULD COMPROMISE ON THE QUALITY OF EXISTING AS WELL AS NEW BUILDINGS - IT WOULD TRY TO COMPETE WITH THE SKYLINE OF THE EXISTING CHURCH - IMPACTS THE POSSIBILITY OF DEVELOPING A URBAN LANDSCAPE WHICH IS AN IMPORTANT ELEMENT OF CURRENT SCENARIO IN CITIES

-SUBMERGING THE BUILDINGS UNDERGROUND REDUCES ITS INTERFERENCE WITH THE NEIGHBOURING BUILDINGS - IT CAN HAVE A DYNAMIC FACADE YET WOULD NOT AFFECT THE RELIGIOUS SKYLINE OF THE NEIGHBOURHOOD - PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP GREEN ROOF WHICH FORMS THE GROUND LEVEL OF THE AREA AND THUS PROVIDING A PEACEFUL AND FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE TO THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

INTRODUCTION THE PROJECT ON MULTI MATERIALITY WAS TO EXPLORE NEW POSSIBILITIES BY COMBINING MATERIALS AND SEEING THEM IN A COMPLETELY NEW FORM. THIS LED TO THE CONCEPTION OF THIS PROJECT WHICH USES THE MOST COMMONLY RECYCLED MATERIALS 由 GLASS AND BRICKS. BRICKS HAVE BEEN A MAJOR PART OF THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY AND LATELY THEY ARE USED MERELY AS PARTITIONS AND DO NOT TEND TO TAKE ANY LOAD. MANY PROJECTS LATELY HAVE APPRECIATED THE TEXTURE AND MATERIALITY OF A BRICK AND HENCE THE CONCEPT OF EXPOSED BRICK CONSTRUCTIONS.

TAKING CUES FROM THESE DIFFERENT ASPECTS THIS PROJECT OF A NON由STRUCTURAL, EXPOSED, MULTI由MATERIAL BRICK MADE OUT OF RECYCLING BROKEN BRICKS AND GLASS BOTTLES WAS TRIED OUT. THE PRESENT PROJECT IS TESTED WITH COMMONLY AVAILABLE ADHESIVE AND THE RESULTS WERE IMPRESSIVE. THESE MULTI由 MATERIAL BRICKS HAVE BEEN STABLE AND NO SIGNS OF CRACKS HAVE DEVELOPED. THIS PROPOSES A POSSIBILITY OF TRYING OUT THE SAME EXPERIMENT WITH A STRONGER TESTED ADHESIVE WHICH WOULD NOT ONLY PROVIDE A NEW PERSPECTIVE OF CREATING BRICKS IN A VERY EFFICIENT AND LOW COST METHOD BUT ALSO PROVIDE A NEW WAY TO REUSE AND RECYCLE THESE PRODUCTS WHICH OTHERWISE ADDS UP TO THE URBAN WASTE OF VARIOUS CITIES.

INTRODUCTION THE GYEONJJI ͳ DO JEONGOK PRESHISTORY MUSEUM IS INSCRIBED WITHING A SITE THAT IS ITSELF A SUBJECT OF GREAT ARCHEOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE. ALONG THE HANTAN RIVER, THE LAND HAS COLLECTED DEPOSITS OF BASALT AND IS STILL THE SHELTER OF ARTIFACTS THAT WILL BE DISPLAYED IN THE MUSEUM AFTER BEIJING EXCAVATED IN THE FUTURE. THE AREA DESIGNATED FOR LOCATING THE MUSEUM IS PART OF THE JEONGOKͳRI PALEOLITHIC SITE. THEREFORE, ITS ENTIRE EXTENT IS ENVISAGED AS AN OPEN AIR MUSEUM. THE PROGRAM IS CONCEIVED LIKE CHAPTERS OF A STORY THAT UNFOLDS AT EVERY TURN. THE CAVES OF THE EXHIBITION ARE PART OF A COMPLEX LABYRINTH. THE BASALT ROCK IS THE TREASURE THAT ENCAPSULATES THE PART OF THE BUILDING BELOW THE GROUND, WITHING VISUAL ACCESS, YET OUT OF REACH. THE DIAGONAL TRAVERSAL FROM THEBOTTOM TO THE TOP IS ONE WAY OF DISCOVERING THE WORKINGS OF TIME’S AGENTS. THE VISITOR MOVES THROUGH OVERLAPPING LAYERS OF THE PAST, CONTINUOUSLY DISCOVERING WHAT IS HIDDEN BENEATH. BY WEAVING VARIOUS COMBINATIONS OF NAVIGATION ROUTES THROUGH THE SITE, THE WORLD OF PREHISTORIC EXISTENCE CAN BE EXPLORED IN DIFFERENT MODES AND LEVELS. THE MUSEUM SINKS INTO THE EARTH AND ABSORBS THE RICH HISTORY OF THE SITE, CREATING A MUSEUM WITHING AN EXISTING NATURAL MUSEUM. PERHAPS TO CUT AWAY FROM THE PRESENT, PERHAPS TO CREATE A NICHE THAT FOCUSES ONLY ON PREHISTORY, DIGGIN DEEP INTO THE EARTH IS THE ANSWER THAT GIVES ANY VISITOR THE TRUE SENSE OF WALKING IN THE ARCHEOLOGIST’S SHOES. THE JOURNEY OF DIGGING DEEP INTO THE EARTH AND ITS HISTORY, THROUGH THE TRANSLUCENT PRISM OF THE PRESENT, WE FEEL, WILL ILLUMINATE FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL , NOT ONLY WHAT EXISTED BEFORE BUT CONNECT THEM TO THE VERY ESSENCE OF MATTER, SPACE AND COSMIC TIME.

ALGORITHM LOGICS LOGIC 1 : FACE SELECTION THE ALGORITHM BASED ON THE DESIGN DECIDES UPON THE FACES THAT NEED TO BE ANALYSED FOR ASSEMBLY, HEREIN SINCE THE DESIGN IS LINEAR IT ANALYSES ONLY THE TWO FACES HIGHLIGHTED. IT THEN FI NDS A MATCH FOR THE ADJACENT BRICK BASED ON THE PROPERTIES OF THE FACE OF THE FIRST BRICK. LOGIC 2 : FACE ROTATION THE ALGORITHM BASED ON THE SIMILARITY OF THE CONNECTING FACE MOVES THE MOST SUITABLE CONNECTING BRICK TO ONE OF THE VERTICES AND THEN ROTATES THE CONNECTING BRICK TO ADHERE TO THE DESIGN REQUIREMENT. THE CONNECTING BRICK NOW IS ANALYSED WITH BOTH THE LOGIC 1 AND 2 AND THE BEST BRICK IS THEN SELECTED. LOGIC 3 : FACE PERPENDICULARITY THE ALGORITHM FI NALLY CHECKS THE OPPOSITE FACE OF THE CONNECTING BRICK OF ITS PERPENDICULARITY TO THE DESIGN GUIDELINE TO PREVENT THE NEXT CONNECTING BRICK TO WAIVER TOO MUCH FROM THE DESIGN GODLIKENESS THREE LOGICS THUS EFFI CIENTLY HELP IN SELECTING THE COMPLEX BRICKS TO ASSEMBLE ALONG A REQUIRED DESIGN PATH.

DIGITAL DATA & DESIGN SIMULATION DIGITALLY PRODUCED LIVE BRICKS THE SET OF BRICKS IN IMG1. ARE THE DIGITAL REPRODUCTION OF THE ACTUAL BRICKS STACKED AND ARRANGED AS SHOWN IN IMG.3 . THEY ARE SCANNED AND THEN USED AS COMPONENTS TO BE ANALYSED AND USED IN THE ALGORITHM TO STUDY THEIR ALIGNMENT & ACHIEVE THE BELOW PROPOSED DESIGN.

PRESENT SCENARIO IN CITIES

A PROJECT TARGETING RECENTLY DEMOLISHED SITES OR DISASTER HIT AREAS AND REͳINSTATING THE SITEͳFOUND BROKEN BRICKS AS POTENT DESIGN COMPONENTS.

SALVAGED BRICKS FROM A PARTICULAR SITE

THE PROJECT UTILIZES THE ATYPICAL GEOMETRY OF BROKEN BRICKS TOWARDS RESEARCHING ON POSSIBLE EMERGENT FORMS. THE RESULTANT IS AN EMERGENT OUTCOME OF USERͳ CONTROLLED DESIGN INPUTS & INHERENT PROPERTIES OF THE BRICKS. THE PROJECT ESTABLISHES A SITE BASED ACTIVE DESIGN SYSTEM WITH A REALͳTIME INTERACTION BETWEEN THE DESIGN AND EXECUTION ALTERNATE TO THE CONVENTIONAL OFFICEͳSITE INTERACTION MAKING THE DESIGN PROCESS VERSATILE AND HOLISTIC.

THE BROKEN BRICKS ARE REPRODUCED INTO A DIGITAL PLATFORM, GIVEN AN IDENTIFICATION TAG, ANALYSED OF ALL ITS PROPERTIES, SORTED AND THE DESIGN OUTCOME IS EVALUATED. THE PROJECT FURTHER CREATES AN INTERACTION PLATFORM WHEREIN THE TAGS CROSSͳCHECK THE POSITIONING OF THE SORTED BRICKS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE DESIGN. THIS OPENS UP AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE DESIGNER TO NOT ONLY VERIFY THE EXECUTION PROCESS IN REALͳTIME BUT ALSO TO REͳEVALUATE THE DESIGN IN CASE OF A CHANGE.

INTRODUCTION THIS ASSIGNMENT WAS EXPLORE THE DIFFERENT POSSIBILITIES WITH 3D PRINTING TECHNOLOGY. EACH TEAM WERE GIVEN A STANDARD BRICK MODULE WITH TWO CYLINDRICAL EXTRUSIONS ON THE TOP AND SIMILAR SIZED INTRUSION AT THE BOTTOM FOR THE BRICK MODULES TO EVENTUALLY INTERLOCK. ANOTHER CRITERIA TO BE MAINTAINED WAS THE EIGHT CORNERS OF THE BRICK NEEDED TO BE PRESERVED SO AS TO MAINTAIN THE SHAPE OF THE BRICK. THE VOLUME WITHIN THE BRICK WAS THE DESIGNABLE SPACE. WE CHOSE TO CREATE A NARRATIVE OF THE CONFLICT BETWEEN NATURE AND MACHINES WHEREIN THE NATURE TRIES TO WRAP AROUND THE MECHANICAL INSTRUMENTS TO STOP THE UNCONTROLLED GROWTH OF THE MECHANICAL WORLD. THIS NARRATIVE NOT JUST PROVIDED US WITH AN OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE AND EXPLORE TWO DIFFERENT TYPE OF DETAILING BUT ALSO HELPED US EXPLORE THE AMOUNT OF DETAILING AND COMPLEX INTERTWINING STRUCTURES POSSIBLE WITH THIS TECHNOLOGY.

THE Z由CORP POWDER PRINTER WHICH PRINTS IN SECTIONS APPLYING AN ADHESIVE BASED ON THE USERS DESIGN INPUT EVENTUALLY GENERATES THE PROVIDED DESIGN ALONG WITH DRY POWDER IN THE NEGATIVE PARTS OF THE BRICK MODULE. THIS NEGATIVE PART NEEDS TO BE CLEANED WITH A PRESSURISED AIR NOZZLE CAREFULLY SO AS TO REVEAL THE FINAL MODULE. THIS CLEANING PROCESS NEEDS UTMOST ATTENTION AND SENSITIVITY TO MAKE SURE THAT THE NOZZLE DOES NOT DAMAGE THE MODULE. ONCE THE FINAL MODULE IS SEPARATED OFF THE DRY POWDER, A SMALL COAT OF CHEMICAL ADHESIVE IS USED TO STRENGTHEN THE BOND OF THE STRUCTURE. THE SLENDER INTERTWINING STRUCTURES COULD BE PRINTED AS SLENDER AS 1.5 MM AND THE 0.2MM DETAILS WERE PROMINENTLY SEEN ON THE GEARS OF MECHANICAL INSTRUMENTS HIGHLIGHTING THE FINESSE OF THE MODULE AND THE LIMIT OF THIS TECHNOLOGY.
