Concept: Genesis hengdu represents hina͛s heritage of water and agriculture innovaƟon, and the gastronomic region of a food-loving naƟon. Xinglong LaŬe represents the genesis of new life - a new city in hengdu, a new waterfront for Sichuan - a catalyst for innovaƟon, creaƟvity, for exchange of ideas and Ŭnowledge. As the centerpiece of the urban and landscape frameworŬ, the laŬe is the giver of life. And the landscape around the laŬe is created with a theme belonging to Ŭey embryonic symbols ʹ water and seeds: a botanic landscape͖ the AcƟvity Promenade on Xinglong LaŬe as an expression of the embryonic shape͖ is the catalyst for acƟvity and life around the laŬe.
LANDSCAPE MASTER PLAN dhis concept is carefully considered and taŬen through all that was developed and designed for the project, from economic planning, vision seƫng, posiƟoning, to development of landscape spaces along the waterfront. dhe result is a series of varied waterfront experiences for future users, capitalising on the Ŭey landscape and cultural features of the city.

Khalifa Port Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates xs/s/m/l/xl [2008-2010] daŬing precedence from other port faciliƟes of similar scale, the iniƟal scope for the landscape worŬs were developed around a strategy for environmental rehabilitaƟon in response to the reclamaƟon acƟviƟes reƋuired for port development. Key challenges of the project were extreme water salinity ;the site is located on sabŬha or salt ŇatsͿ, the uncertainty of available irrigaƟon sources and the lacŬ of a suitable landscape budget, which led to several rounds of reducƟon and value engineering throughout the design and documentaƟon process.

“Food Practice” is an integrated master plan of spatial, infrastructure and management strategies aimed at achieving the triple bottom line of ecological, socio-economic and aesthetic improvements. “Foodscape” , “Food health” and “Foodprint” are a series of innovative concepts that work together to balance the competing needs for resource protection and urban development.
the Concept
A creative laboratory for future food practice
food practice The proposed master plan is a competition entry for Pujiang Country Park in Shanghai, China. The 13.6 square kilometre park is located in Minhang District, 20 kilometres southeast of the city’s urban centre.
Villages
Shanghai, like many cities in the world, is caught in the competition between urban development and the natural resources it needs. Food is important to Chinese culture, thus residents are naturally concerned about food safety and security. Our proposal – “Food Practice” – is an integrated master plan of spatial, infrastructure and management strategies aimed at achieving the triple bottom line of ecological, socioeconomic and aesthetic improvements, while educating park users of sustainable food practices.
=
food +scape
Working with the client’s goals of improving ecology and environment, meeting the city’s increasing need for recreational open spaces, and sustained economic viability of the park, our multi-disciplinary team worked to retain the site’s existing character – of farms and villages intertwined within a waterway network. One of our key design objectives was to integrate and reinvigorate the forgotten joys of rural living within the context of a contemporary country park.

“Food Practice” is a master plan for “a creative laboratory for future food practice”, one that marries distinctive recreational experiences with green infrastructure and local economy. “Foodscape” a reflection of farmlands and permaculture practices that once dominated the landscapes of rural Shanghai; “Food health” refers to ecological strategies for restoring the site’s environmental health; and finally “Foodprint” of programmatic spaces and activities that form the experience of park users and livelihoods of local residents.

Inspired by the site’s existing character – of farms and villages intertwined with a network of waterways – our team sought to integrate and reinvigorate the forgotten joys of rural living within the context of a contemporary country park . foodprint the Food Experience “Foodprint” is a network of programmatic spaces and economic activities that make up the experience of park users and sustainable livelihoods of local residents. By visualising the farm-to-table process and taking visitors through an interactive and educational journey, it is envisaged that visitors will take away a better understanding and appreciation of important environmental issues such as reducing food wastages, resource conservation and sustainability.

Boutique Farms & Workshops
Permaculture principles are reflected in key demonstration areas, espcially within the Boutique Farms & Workshops. A typical demonstration module includes areas for farm production, management and maintenance, food processing, product innovation, warehouse and distribution, demonstration and workshops, sales, as well as accomodation for farm stays. These complementary facilities are designed to provide a recreational and educational experience for visitors, allowing them to understand and participate in the ”farm-to-table” process, at the same time improving the overall image and quality of life for villagers engaged in agricultural and related activities.

The design of this zone reflects the use of existing forest communities to create a dense agroforest for a range of recreational activities such as health spa and adventure playgrounds. Working with the structure and density of existing tree canopies, permaculture and intercropping techniques are again applied to achieve a different crop mix - in this case one of cultural significance such as medicinal herbs used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Associated programmes and facilities are developed to capitalise on these resources to reap social and economic benefits.

Prior to modern development of the Minhang District, Duhang Town was a significant local town centre with a history dating back to 1400AD. The town has suffered decline, characterised by its chaotic land use mix of industries, farms and rural villages. Our proposal for redevelopment aims to address the social and ecological issues by revitalising its local economy and redevelopment into a mixed-use cultural and historical precinct. The existing East and West cross streets are retained and refurbished to form a street-style Market Bazaar; conservation of buildings for new commercial uses and retaining suitable residential buildings for current residents; and introduction of new businesses and folk museums to revitalise local intangible heritage including local foodstuff and traditional handicrafts. Food processing is a significant element of the town’s heritage and this is reinforced through the introduction of vege patches and market gardens along streetscapes.

In this zone, permaculture and agroforestry techniques are used in tandem to create a self-sustaining feature landscape. Within the agrorestes, three-dimensional cropping and crop rotation techniques are strongly reflected through agriculture and planting design to create a spatially and seasonally varied agricultural landscape all year round.
