Project narrative Chunan county is located in the upstream of Qiantang River, with Xinan River down through from the north-west. Xiushui Square is in the center area of the chunan city. The project consists of two parts. The first part is to rebuild the Lakeside Park in the south of the site, the second part is to plan and design Xiushui Square to meet people's needs for leisure activities as well as festival activities.
Location
Vision The core landscape The culture landmark A public space
Problems 1. How to inherit the local context, reflecting the place spirit? Square's design concept derives from the local history and culture. Qiandao Lake is an artificial lake, before it becomes the reservoir, there are numerous mountains at this place, then some of them becomes thousands of islands in the lake. However the other mountains, as a prototype, have never changed. In addtion, Water is another design language, it surrounds mountains. In this project, how to form comcept by intergrating mountian and water language in Xiushui Square's design concept has become a major challenge.
2 How to integrate the lakeside Park and Xiushui Square? The project site consists of two parts, first part is the Lakeside Park which has been completed in the south, the second part is xiushui square which will be planed and designed, so how to integrate two parts is a important issue.
3 How to meet the needs of a variety of activities in the square? Through on-site research and investigation, there is a variety of needs for local residents in the new Xiushui Square. So how to create different functional places and pleasant spaces is a problem that we must deal with.
Concept Mountain and water According to the relationship between the mountain and water in Qiandao lake, we design a series of streamlined hill and slopes to shaping space. In addition, the surface patterns of square's pavement, building facades will use more elegant arc, making the square as a whole landscape full of fluidity, thus to response the surrounding environment.
Ribbon Our inspiration for the project is from the traditional drama and China's modern dance, the ribbon is a nearly 1000 meters long and it consists of two parts: red steel skywalk and riverside walking trails, which integrates the Xiushui Square and Lakeside Park.

Project narrative The project is located in the eastern part of Lanzhou city, Gansu province. In the recent years, with rapid economic development in Lanzhou, people need more spaces for recreation. When you stand on the top of Lanshan, you can see the city as well as the Yellow River, which is really natural landscape. So the local government want this place to become an urban park which can attract both tourists.

Problems 1 How to recover the ecology of Lanshan Mountain Park? Currently, Lanshan is still in the early stages of ecological restoration , so how to turn a hilltop wasteland to a eco- friendly mountain park is a major challenge in this project.
2 How to display the local culture? Lanzhou is an important city in the silk road, it has 2000 years of history since set as Jincheng County in B.C 81, which left many ancient culture and heritage. It also has its own unique religious culture, there has Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism's historic buildings in the site. How to show the culture of the park is the issues that need to be focused on.
3 How to create a unique landscape? Lanshan has complex terrain. How to overcome the complex terrain and elevation to create the regional characteristics of mountain landscapes is another major problem to be solved in this project.
Concept
Cultivate green cells By building ecological demonstration garden and other theme parks to form a variety of green space.
Activate cultural pulse Through rehabilitation to create a variety of open spaces including leisure, sports, entertainment spaces, then stimulate a variety of acitiivies in Lanshan parks.
Strategies NO:1 Recover site environment, establish the green base. NO:2 Design the long corridor to show the chinese 5,000 years' culture. NO:3 Designing should respect the site as well as highlighting the characteristics of mountain park.

The first design strategies: Recover site environment, establish the green base. Considering the site topography, estabilshing the water harvesting system to collect rain water and guide these rain water to natural vegetation. Rain water collecting system may result in the plants' growthe A few years later, the ecology environment will be recovered on this site.

The second design strategies: Design a long corridor to show China's 5,000 years culture. Lanzhou, as one of the birthplace of Chinese civilization, is a rich cultural heritage in China. We design a long corridor which looks like a golden dragon on the mountainin in order to show the brilliant Chinese civilization, especially the traditional culture in Lanzhou. we connect public spaces by the corridor in order to design thirteen theme gardens to represent thirteen important dynasties in china. The third design strategies:ďźšDesigning should respect the site , highlighting the characteristics of mountain park. Although Lanshan's terrain is complex, we believe that it has unique advantage to desig a mesa park. According to different functions, we design mesa Villa, mesa garden and mesa square to meet people's different need.

Architecture is a art of space, I think there is a certain different understanding of the architectural space between the east and the west. But nowdays most Architects in china do not think about the essence of the architecture. Leoh Ming Pei once said, China's new buildings lack of their own culture. The combination of Chinese traditional culture and modern culture can be an research subject. By this project, we hope to recover the Chinese traditional lifestyle. It is our great pleasure if this project can arise people's thinking to integrate local culture into new architectural forms.
Anlayisis Project narrative Deqing Xinminghui Electric Lighting Co.,Ltd is located in the famous resort Moganshan --- Deqing, which is in the Yangtze River Delta economic zone. Now the company has 800 employees and a floorage of 32,000 square meters. This project is to build a comprehensive buildingTo meet the needs of local residents. The building area of the comprehensive building is 2000 square meters and the functions include office, conference, exhibition, entertainment and residence.
Site Cognition This Site is flat inside, with small plants. There is a canteen and a office building in the north of the site, in the east and west of the site there are some farmland .

Due to the impact of etiquette, this project use the layout of the "Jiugongge" from the planning to the architectural design. The design of the comprehensive building is inspired by the formation of this layout.
A window to display toward outside
Problems 1 How to organize the different functions in the comprehensive building?
Folk Houses in South of the Yangtze A notable feature of the traditional houses in southern China is inward-looking layout with a courtyard at the core. The courtyard emphasizes both privacy and public spaces. In the process of the design, we learned some case studies from folk houses in the southern China, not only enrich the space styles of the building, but also give different landscape vacant spaces to redesign.
Since the comprehensive building include office, conference, sports, entertainment, exhibition, residence and other functions, so how to arrange the different functions becomes a huge challenge.
2 How to organize the traffic within the building? Diverse functions need reasonable connection and guidance of the traffic. How to organize an effective traffic become a big challenge.

ROANOKE RAIL STATION RENOVATION Rail Station and Urban Park Design in Roanoke, Virginia
Virginia Tech Studio: Instructor: Role: Location:
Burrus Hall H. Scott Gartner Chief design, Conceptual analysis, Sketch Roanoke, VA Aug-Dec, 2013
The side is situated in the heart of the downtown Roanoke's business and shopping districts behind a series of beautifully restored 19th century building facades. The project is the public rail station design and old bus station renovation. The project seeks to impove the high quality environment arround the rail station through landscape architecture design techniques. Because the rail station is embedded into the business and shopping districts, improvements will not only benefit the passengers, but also the workers neaby. This project integrates landscape architecture and architecture design in order to foster a capability of considering synthetically a complicated project from three perspective: architecture design, landscape architecture and structure design.

Concept for the Rail Station The whole project is divided into two parts: the underground and the ground floor. The underground part are the bus lots and car lots and the ground part is a a public real station and a urban park. A moder design shape is adopted in this architecture design. However, how to deal with the lighting in the underground floor is a key problem for the whole project.
roof system
As for the rail station building, a series of light pillars are applied for guiding the light from the exterior into the interior space, especially to the underground floor. However, in the urban park, a series of skylights were hidden in the lawn slopes to guide the light into the underground floor.
waiting area
Lighting pillars is one feature of the architecture design, in addition, a pedestrian system was adopted in the design process in order to provide the walking experience to go to the architecture's roof platform, thus it can create the intimate relationship between people and architecture. waiting area lighting pillar
