This project takes the investigation on the typology of library. Compared to traditional library which simply devoted to books, contemporary library take on multiple roles in which all kinds of public activities could occur. This project proposes a certain kind of library that aims for education. The spatial quality of the library is a one-room space with a lot of small rooms within. Through the architectural language of ramps and stairs, spaces are actively connected to accelerate interaction and communication btween different groups of people.

The site is a left-over linear space by subwaystation-line13. Adjacent to it are a series of institutions including Tsinghua Univerisity. The site is preoccupied with a large amount of movement and activities including a day-time market and food carts at night.

There are two key aims for this project. One is about connection, that is to accelerate access and movement towards the subway station. Secondly, to imagine a certain place that could contain student life outside the campus. Exhibition space, restaurants, cafe, book store could be contained as a compensate for the normal univerisity life. The program of the student center contains three parts, a open public plaza at the ground level, a series of rooms for exhibition and a mezzanine level containg leisure spaces including restaurants, book store and lecture hall.

Sao Paulo is a modern and dynamic city of nearly 20 million inhabitants with a unique geomorphology and history of construction that together have forged a remarkable feature: a 20-meter thick ground. This has never been deliberately explored for its architectural potential. This project will build a case for a new configuration of this thick public horizontal plane in Sao Paulo, merging geography and architecture. The site for experiment is at the historic center of Sao Paulo. Two linear sites are taken under careful consideration which extends from two lower streets_ Vinte Cinco de Marco and Anhangabau to the highest street of Florencio. Connection between the two lower street could potentially reshape the mobility in the historical downtown, thus providing possibility for the investigation on a new typology of public realm. This project aims to find a way to resolve the tension between current urbanization and the spatial quality in traditional Chinese housing. Instead of thoroughly abandon the past, I tried to reinterpret some important architectural typology including the wall and courtyard in a social sense. I believe modern society lost much of its creativity which is especially notable in the field of housing. A creative society means everyone is willingly to do creative things. And, a creative space is making a place which everyone can actively use. Besides, creativity is not an individual phenomenon but a social process. It comes up with different ideas and different experience. Thus, we want to bring more collective spaces where people can exchange their knowledge and information.
