Painting by Jylian Gustlin, on view in the Live Auction
Friday, October 20, 2017 City View at Metreon
Having toured the world, Whitney now helps others own a little piece of one of its most beautiful cities. Like Whitney Baxter Davis, you can travel the world and never find a city quite like San Francisco. Unique neighborhoods. Breathtaking views. Remarkable people. Who wouldn’t want to own a piece of San Francisco? Whether it’s your first home or just your latest, you’re making a sizeable investment. Whitney takes pleasure in helping people find and purchase the home of their dreams, in the city they love. And as a longtime resident of the City himself, Whitney is honored to have had the opportunity to support the Art for AIDS Auction for the past 13 years.
Whitney Davis has supported Art for AIDS since the

Alliance Health Project—Serving the LGBTQ and HIV Communities We Need Your Support—Now More Than Ever! Thank you for joining us at our 21st Annual Art for AIDS! This year, as we witness our rights (and the rights of so many others) being stripped away, we are inspired by the memory of our decades-long battles for those rights. Before Stonewall and AIDS activism, our choices were bleak. Now, pride marches, activism, and ACT UP campaigns proclaim our resistance, dyke and trans marches celebrate our diversity. The Alliance Health Project is an LGBTQ+-affirming mental health and HIV organization, helping people seeking safety, solace, and professional mental and behavioral health care to live full and integrated lives. But the current political climate puts our work at risk from policies that attack our rights, values, and lives. Threats to health care and Medicaid threaten the funding on which so many of our clients rely. Art for AIDS is an event that blends traditions of resistance and celebration that stretch from Stonewall to the triumphs and challenges of today. All proceeds from the auction help AHP help others. Tonight you can be an activist simply by bidding, simply by showing up! And if you miss your chance during the auction, or if you want to give even more, please go to ucsf-ahp.org and make a donation. Our clients need your support now more than ever!
HIV and STD Prevention Know Yourself, Know Your Status, Know Your Community. HIV and STD testing empowers people with information. For appointments, go to “Make Your HIV Test Appointment” on AHP’s homepage, or call 415-502-TEST (8378) from 11 am to 4:30 pm, Tuesday through Friday. To find our van, see twitter: @502Test. AHP also provides clean syringes to people who inject drugs and runs one of the city’s new PrEP navigation programs, helping people assess whether PrEP is right for them and, if so, access it.
Mental Health and Substance Use Help People Help Themselves. Individual and group support, immediate intervention for people in crisis, and psychiatric assessment and medications management. Most mental health and support services are free; some have income or insurance status limits. Meet Folks Where They Are. “Harm reduction”—individual substance use counseling, case management, and group support—creates a constructive and effective setting for addressing mental health and substance use concerns.
Training and Research Build Knowledge and Capacity. AHP trains HIV test counselors, mental health and substance abuse professionals, and staff from agencies seeking to foster a well-informed, clientcentered, culturally competent, stigmafree environment. Discover While Serving. Doing HIV and LGBTQ work leads AHP staff to recognize gaps and develop ideas for filling them. AHP researches new approaches to HIV prevention and LGBTQ mental health.
Support Groups and Wellness Workshops Connect People Together. Support and therapy groups help people build community and address mental health and wellness topics together. Groups vary in length and in their target audience. Some focus on specific populations or topics. Feel Better Than Ever. AHP also uses the power of community to promote a world of well-being through workshops and forums on both LGBTQ and HIV-related topics. 1

How to Bid / Auction Rules LIVE AUCTION Begins at 7:00 pm. At registration, each guest will receive a unique bidder number, printed on the back of their catalog. To bid in the live auction, hold up your catalog with the number facing the auctioneer. By bidding in the auction, each bidder agrees to the auction rules. The auctioneer will announce the number of the winning bidder. An auction monitor will provide the winning bidder with a bid sheet, identifying the lot and the winning bid. This will facilitate payment and pickup of your piece(s). Absentee bids may be made on live and silent auction items. Successful bidders must pay for items and make arrangements for pickup at the checkout area no later than the conclusion of the event, estimated to end at 10:00 pm. A bid acknowledged by the auctioneer is a legal contract to purchase the item. SILENT AUCTION Silent auction artwork is divided into different color sections—yellow, red, blue, and purple—in the auction hall and
PAYMENT AND PICKUP Providing credit card information in advance significantly speeds up the payment process. Your credit card will not be charged unless you are a winning bidder in the silent or live auctions. All sales are final and no exchanges are permitted. Computers, scanners and laser printing have broadened the range of print techniques. Terms such as Lassengraphs, Iris prints, Giclée prints (and others) refer to these reproduction processes supervised by artists and technicians to assure a final product that will aptly represent the original. Adding value to these latter processes, as well as to traditional prints, is the inclusion of an artist signature, numbering, and limited editions of works. We avoid prints that are photographs of work originally created in another medium.
