A Letter from the Bertram President I knew immediately upon arrival at the Bertram headquarters in early March how fortunate I was to become a member of such a highly skilled team of boat builders building hard core sport fishing Alton Herndon machines. Bertram has a legendary history that I am proud to become part of and I’m looking forward to building the best sport fishing boats in the world and staying true to our core values and our customers. The personal excitement of being on this team was highlighted on Saturday, March 27th with the launch and christening of the largest Bertram ever built; the new Bertram 800 hull # 1. This beautiful boat is the pride of all of those who created it starting with customer input, the Allied sales team, the Ferretti Design and Engineering Group, and most importantly the Bertram men and women that completed the design and production of this massive sport fishing yacht. Most people don’t understand the scope of manufacturing requirements that are needed to turn a concept and design into a boat of this size and quality. We start with the purchasing of thousands of parts from

hundreds of vendors using many types of construction tools commonly used in automotive, home and aircraft construction. This type of naval construction requires highly skilled craftspeople for lamination, carpentry, mechanical, electrical and detailed finishing. It is a big job, and from what I have seen in the past 30 days, it was very well done by this team of professionals. Over the next few months, I am looking forward to meeting many of our customers and dealers as I believe we are one team with the same goals for Bertram. I will be fishing at both the Bertram-Hatteras Shootout and the BBC#4 in addition to meeting up with some of our Bertram Ambassador owners at a couple of tournaments on the eastern seaboard. An important part of my position, and our team, is to stay close to our customers to know what they want in their boats whether fishing, cruising, hanging at the dock or at anchor. We must also provide customer service after the sale that our customers expect and deserve. It is with this passion and focus that drives our team to continue building legendary sport fishing machines paired with excellent customer service as we stand behind our quality and production.

Be the First to Experience the Bertram 800

Bertram owners are invited to attend the debut of the Bertram 800 during the Shootout held on April 30th at the Abaco Beach Resort in the Bahamas. We are holding an exclusive sea-trial to Baker’s Bay Resort for those who crave to test this incredible new sport fish yacht in the crystal Bahamian waters. Space is limited so reservations are required. All Bertram owners participating in the Shootout are guaranteed their spot on the boat but all others must request a boarding pass in advance to ensure we can accommodate everyone. Please send an e-mail to Brett Keating no later than April 19th to get on board. If the Bahamas is not your style for a sea trial, we need to get you some help. Ok, jokes aside now… we understand that schedules can get pretty busy, so we are presenting another opportunity for you to see this boat up close and personal. Allied Marine is hosting its annual Spring Rendezvous for their owners at Ocean Reef Club from May 13-16th and we invite you to come see our new 800 on Saturday, May 15th between 1pm and 5pm for a special tour and sea-trial with the Bertram and Allied Marine team. To attend this private event, please send us your rsvp to your broker or directly to us at Bertram.

bertram 800 launches! The Bertram 800 made its first splash on Saturday, March 27th. The process to move the boat from the Miami facility across the street to the water was carefully planned and successfully executed by the Bertram factory supported by a series of cranes and a house-moving company. What normally would take about an hour for any other Bertram model was orchestrated over 4 days as a house mover and a 500-ton crane had to be brought in to lift the boat and place it into the water. It is no secret that Bertram has outgrown its current facility and the plan remains to relocate the factory to a more optimal manufacturing footprint to accommodate the production of larger models such as the 800. The current travel lift and haul-out slip on the Miami River was made for boats about 75’ and smaller. Therefore, the best way to get the new 800 into the water without causing too many traffic distractions was to lift it over the current haul-out slip. The entire process started on a Wednesday when the semi trucks rolled in to deliver multiple i-beams and steel plates to cover the existing slip to become a launching pad for the crane that would lift the 80 ton vessel. The 500-ton crane that lifted the Bertram 800 actually required another crane to assemble its booms and counter weights together. The complete crane structure required eight counterweights, each approximately 13 tons and took 10 flatbed trailers and a tractor to bring it all together. The assembled crane drove up onto the steel plate platform and was positioned over the haul-out slip where it would lift the Bertram 800 up and over the buildings. On Friday, the house-moving company spent several hours rigging the crane and boat together with multiple braces and steel beams that would hoist the Bertram out of its cradle. A group of Bertram employees gathered together on Saturday morning at the test center to take a group photo and christen the new 800 for good luck. Alton Herndon, the President of Bertram declared, “This is a GIANT deal for Bertram, while Kimberly Diamant, interior designer, graciously smashed the champagne across the bow. Overall, the launching was a success which only took 15 minutes once the crane hoisted her over the seawall into the water. For more information and video of the 800 launching, visit the Bertram web site.

Bertram Ambassador Tournament Program

Bertram is teaming up with Allied Marine and select owners to fish key tournaments this season. A big Bertram team win came early this spring at the Bacardi Billfish tournament in Port Lucaya, Bahamas. Divine Intervention, a Bertram 570 lead by Jack Widmer, took the overall win with 800 points and Syd Sussman’s Certifiable, a Bertram 700, came in second. Go Team Bertram!!!

The same Bertram fishing team at the Shootout consisting of Alton Herndon, President of Bertram, Rob McDougal, President of Allied Marine, two well-seasoned tournament anglers from the Allied Marine sales team, and Captain Terry Moore will continue their fight to win in the Bahamas on the Bertram 630, Screaming Eagle. Alongside the Bertram team at the Bahamas Billfish Championship, will be Todd Correll, on his Niza Niza to show everyone that a Bertram 410 means serious fishing business. Syd Sussman, owner of the B700, Certifiable, a proven tournament winner, will be participating in many tournaments up the coast from Palm Beach to Big Rock and into New Jersey for the White Marlin Open and Mid-Atlantic 500. Dr. Fanelli’s team of the Intrepid, a Bertram 630, also plans to fish on the Bertram Ambassador team at Big Rock and the Mid Atlantic 500. If you own a Bertram and are fishing any tournaments this season, let us know where you will be! Alton Herndon and a few of us will be meeting up with our customers along the way and we look forward to seeing our Bertram owners take the trophies home.
