ExploringExumas
An unparalleled boating utopia that offers it all: picture-perfect anchorages and placid footprint-free cays, characterful beach bars and memorable Bahamian eateries, and a kaleidoscope of saltwater adventures that will recharge and inspire.
You could spend weeks boating from one Exumas cay to the next and not set foot on them all, so we recommend adopting the relaxed pace of Bahamian life and starting first with some of the most celebrated destinations –many of which are listed here. For orientation’s sake, the Exumas island chain is divided into three regions: Great Exuma, the largest of the cays by far, and host to both the international airport and the capital of
Georgetown; Little Exuma to the south, a 12-squaremile long islet connected to Great Exuma via a small, one-lane bridge; and the Exuma Cays, the remaining hundreds of mostly uninhabited and private islands that spread out over 120 miles. Many of the unnamed cays and coves belong to the Exuma National Land and Sea Park, a marine reserve created in 1958 that protects one of the largest barrier reefs in the world.

SEA ADVENTURES GALORE
Watersport enthusiasts of all kinds will no doubt be awestruck by the dreamlike oceanscapes that the Exumas offer above and below the sea. For starters, you can jump across the tropics latitude line on Little Exuma’s Tropic of Cancer Beach; the stretch of dove-white sand and calm cerulean waters makes it a haven for those interested in paddling to nearby islands. Staniel Cay features one of the most accessible plane wreck dive sites in the world and is a great stopping point before boating over to the Thunderball Grotto, an incredible underwater cave system made famous in a James Bond film. The Mystery Cave on Stocking Island is another underwater gem for snorkelers and divers. While you’re in the area, try to spot some Stromatolites near the Stocking Island beach dunes- they’re some of the oldest fossils on the planet!
If you’ve always wanted to swim alongside sharks, venture to Compass Cay, where welcoming nurse sharks greet bathers in shallow marina waters. Or, to admire the Exuma’s celebrity swimming pigs, head to Pig Beach on the tiny island of Big Major Cay.
Allen’s Cay is another wildlife viewing treasure, featuring endangered rock iguanas - some as large as 24 pounds - that are only found in the Exumas. For boaters cruising the northernmost Exuma waters of the esteemed Land and Sea Park marine reserve, Shroud Cay is an isolated islet where visitors often catch sight of sea turtles in its tidal mangroves. O’Brien’s Cay, also in the park, features “The Aquarium,” a shoal reef that teems with a rainbow of fish and coral species.
Fishermen, too, will rejoice in the Exumas, whose waters teem with wahoo, barracuda, tuna, snapper, grouper and bonefish, amongst many others. Be aware that a permit is often required and many species are catch-and-release, and all fishing, conching and shelling is strictly prohibited in the Land and Sea Park.
A FEAST FROM LAND AND SEA
Exumian food is a mouth-watering fusion of fresh seafood and traditional Bahamian dishes. Visitors will have an array of quality options at their disposal; a good bet is to ask a local what their go-to spot is! One tried-and-true favorite is the string of colorful beachfront cottages known as The Fish Fry on Great Exuma, which are known for their barbeque and made-to-order fish fry. They’re a late-night staple, especially on weekends when the music amps up and everyone starts to mingle. On Little Exuma, the ambient, open-air grill Santanna’s (below) is just steps from Tropic of Cancer Beach, and serves authentic seafood dishes topped with some of the tastiest sauces on the islands. And for table-made conch salad, fire-roasted conch burgers, or to experience a Bahamian Sunday pig roast, head to the Chat ‘N’ Chill beach bar (left) on Stocking Island, a legendary spot that attracts an animated mix of yachters and locals. Don’t be surprised if you end up dancing next to a beach bonfire. Be sure to put your feet in white-sand beach at Nipper's Beach Bar & Grill on Great Guana Cay. Swim by the third-largest coral reef in the world or grab a "Chicken in Da Bag".
Top left: Chat ‘N’ Chill beach bar on Stocking Island. Bottom left: Nippers Beach Bar & Grill, Great Guana Cay.
Bottom right: Santanna’s on Tropic of Cancer Beach.
Boaters that find themselves on Staniel Cay, on the other hand, will feel right at home dining at The Captain’s Lounge at the Staniel Cay Yacht Club, which has been serving salty dogs and yachtsmen since the 1950s. The club also has a Sea Level restaurant, which offers two reservation-only, candlelit dining hours with a three-course menu. If it’s exclusivity you’re after, Macduff’s, the only restaurant on remote Norman Cay, is a must for anyone craving conch fritters or a specialty grouper dish in the northernmost waters of the Exumas.
MARINAS, MOORINGS & LUXURY ON LAND
Whether you desire an upscale marina or a quiet mooring field, you’ll have no trouble finding safe a haven to suit your style while logging sea miles in the Exumas. The Emerald Bay Marina offers convenience and class on Great Exuma, with over a hundred slips within the Sandals Resort complex. Norman’s Cay Marina, to the northern end of the island chain, is popular with superyachts because of its depth and large slips, as is the Highborne Cay Marina, which also accommodates boats big and small, in a naturally sheltered harbor. For those in search of quainter docks, try the Compass Cay Marina, which tops out at 16 slips. And then there’s the famed Staniel Cay Yacht Club, loyally frequented by seasoned seamen and one of the Exumas’ oldest quays. It has a reputation for fantastic amenities and a spirited bar, and if you crave a night off the water, book a SCYC resort suite, and admire your yacht from land.
If tying up to a mooring is more your speed, The Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park offers seven different mooring fields for nearly 100 boats in an awe-inspiring backdrop, and many captains will agree they’re some of the finest in the Exumas. The Staniel Cay Yacht Club, Little Farmer's Cay Yacht Club, and the St Francis Marina on Great Exuma also offer secure mooring options. For captains dropping anchor, check nautical charts and boating directories for safe anchorages.
If you’re looking to pamper yourself on land for some nights –or aren’t exploring Exuma by boat– there are plenty of lavish hotels and private-island resorts to cater to every desire. Great Exuma's Grand Isle Resort and Sandals Emerald Bay are two revered choices that offer an all-inclusive island experience. Or cruise over to the Fowl Cay Resort and indulge in a deluxe villa stay, or a beachfront bungalow at the Kahari Resort on Stocking Island. For fishermen craving a homier, hobby-centered stay, try a locallyowned fishing lodge that offers guided excursions.
GETTING TO THE EXUMAS
Most flights arrive in Great Exuma at the GTT international airport. If you plan on chartering a vessel upon arrival to the Exumas, consider a first-class charter or private seaplane flight; the airlines usually offer a boat tender transport to your yacht or hotel, and get you on the water in a breeze. There is also a ferry service from Nassau, for travelers already in the Bahamas. Anyone arriving by personal boat, on the other hand, should be aware of all Bahamian Customs and Immigration regulations, and arrange cruising permits and visas if necessary.

MARINE
YEARS77
Allied Marine was started in 1945 along the banks of the Miami River in Florida. At the time, World War II veterans were returning and looking for recreation on the water. They wanted to purchase boats and needed a place to service them. Allied Marine was formed to fulfill their needs. The connection to WW2 veterans is how the term "Allied" made it into our company name.
Allied Marine Group was purchased by Winthrop P. Rockefeller, an avid yachtsman and fisherman and the greatgrandson of industrialist John D. Rockefeller.
Allied Marine Group establishes locations in Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach, and Stuart, Florida.
Allied Marine Group further expands to eight sales locations and five service centers on the east and west coasts of Florida.
2005 2008 2014
Allied Marine opens an office at Bahia Mar in Fort Lauderdale to offer brokerage and charter services for superyachts, or luxury craft measuring 80 feet or more.
Ferretti SpA, which owns the Italian superyacht brands CRN and Custom Line, finalized the acquisition of Allied Marine and changed the name to Allied Marine Group. The newly named Allied Marine Group specializes in new yacht sales, yacht brokerage and post-sales service.
In keeping with the times, as the demand for larger vessels grew, the new Allied Marine Superyacht Division was created.
2017
Allied Marine begins an enhanced relationship with its controlling company, The Ferretti Group. Making Allied Marine the exclusive dealer for Ferretti Yachts, Pershing, Itama, Riva and Mochi Craft in the United States, as well as an authorized dealer for CRN and Custom Line.
The Ferretti Group, the parent company of Allied Marine, launched a $302 million Hong Kong Initial Public Offering (IPO) to finance future investments.
Allied Marine has over 7 decades of experience of helping thousands of yacht buyers and sellers. Beginning in South Florida along the banks of the Miami River, Allied Marine has grown from local yacht brokerage to a global powerhouse. The exclusive dealer for Ferretti Yachts, Riva, Pershing and Itama in the US, and an authorized dealer for CRN and Custom Line yachts, Allied Marine now has over 45 brokers in 6 US offices. Financial considerations for your luxury yacht purchase from J.P. Morgan.
With a record 1,024 superyachts under construction or on order in 2022*, it’s clear that the siren song of the high seas is more inviting than ever.
Our founder and namesake at J.P. Morgan, knew the call well, regularly retreating to his beloved 165-long yacht, Corsair, as a respite from the outsized role he played in the late 1800s/ early 1900s as America’s foremost banker. He also used the Corsair to settle several deals, and disputes, as the vessel sailed leisurely around Manhattan or Long Island.
If joining the grand tradition of yachting is your passion, we are pleased to help you make this major purchase with your head, as well as your heart. There are several options
for venturing out to the sea. Each should, and can, align with your broader financial goals, and it is here that some thoughtful planning can make a big difference.
The first step is to define how you plan to use your yacht. How many people is it for? Where is it going? How often do you plan to use it?
Your answers will help you decide to build new, buy preowned or to charter. Luxury yachts that are privately owned and crewed start at about $2 million, while superyachts (at least 79 feet long) can run into the hundreds of millions. Wait times for a custom superyacht are now three to five years, and demand may push prices even higher.
Of course, the purchase price is only one aspect of a major purchase like this. At J.P. Morgan, we’re also able to help clients plan for annual costs to maintain and operate a private yacht, including crew, dockage, boat insurance and maintenance -- that will amount to at least 10% of the purchase price. And there is always fuel, insurance or security costs, too. We also see many purchasers faced with a payment schedule, often in a foreign currency like euros. Our Advisors can help you consider ways to mitigate some of the risks that come with foreign exchange volatility during these transactions.
Whatever your decision, it’s wise to consider how these options might affect your overall lifestyle and other financial goals, as each comes with different cash-flow implications and trade-offs.
If you are looking to set sail immediately, chartering can be a good option and would likely cost you less and give you access sooner. On the other hand, if you build, you can customize amenities and have unfettered access— and then charter while your yacht is being built. You could also choose to own a relatively modest yacht but charter a superyacht every year for an extended familyand-friends vacation.
At J.P. Morgan, we can help you think through all your options so that you might ensure this new commitment is incorporated into your family and financial plans. Even if you are able to afford to purchase the yacht outright — about 50% of the contract price is typically required as down payment — it could be more efficient to borrow against your assets. Or financing could be secured by the yacht itself. There are additional planning issues you might want to keep in mind, too, such as family ground
rules, protecting your personal finances from liability, and accounting for it in your will.
Ultimately, we can help you make sure your liquidity and lifestyle buckets are funded and invested to help support your adventures on the high seas. J.P. Morgan himself would have it no other way.

The story of Penfolds begins in most humble moments, on landscapes harsh and unknown.
It was 1844 when Dr. Christopher Rawson Penfold and his wife Mary boarded a ship in Europe, setting off on an arduous, long crossing to a colony in a fledgling Australia.
They settled on 500 acres near Adelaide, unpacking a
few possessions, among which were prized, delicate vine clippings from the Rhone Valley.
These European vines were planted, and a young couple pursued a dream of making medicinal, fortified wine. It was Mary Penfold who would strike a lasting image, riding a grand, white horse along the vine rows each day, overseeing the planting, pruning and production, even after her husband passed. It was Mary who expanded the operation, and she remains an honored figure in the Penfolds legacy, responsible for growing a brand before women were even allowed to vote.
Max Schubert, originally hired as the team’s messenger boy, became the brand’s first Chief Winemaker by his 33rd birthday in 1948.
Max, like Mary, saw risk and adversity as positives, using a keen mind and a passion for adventure, he journeyed to Spain and to France, carefully studying the masters of fine wine.
Penfolds began with vines from Europe, grown in Australia. Under Schubert, an idea blossomed. He began his own experiments, harvesting Australian-grown grapes, aging and blending with ancient, French techniques.
The ‘Grange’ wine was born––one of the most famous, acclaimed and collected wines on the planet today. Max’s first vintages were not immediately accepted by the company. Ordered to cease making Grange, he stubbornly continued on, making it in secret. Resampling the same wine years later, completely unaware, the team loved it. Schubert had convinced Penfolds of what the future could hold.
The 1990 vintage of Grange was named Wine Spectator’s Red Wine of the Year in 1995. On its 50th birthday in 2001, Grange was listed as a South Australian heritage icon. Its acclaim continues with the new vintage, 2018, receiving six 100-point scores from global critics upon its release August 4, 2022.
Peter Gago is only the fourth winemaker in the company’s nearly 200-year history. His bold vision has wrought the California Collection, when vine clippings again traversed the high seas, carried from Australia to be planted in Napa and Paso Robles. The results of 20 years of viticulture and wine trials are now resting in oak and impressing in glasses. For the first time in Penfolds history, this Collection release comprises three country-of originportfolios – Australian, Californian and the inaugural French release. It showcases Penfolds enduring ‘House Style’ in a global context.
Through nearly two centuries, Penfolds has carried on the legacy of its namesake creators. With great risk comes great reward, and in the case of this winemaker, a fondness for combining techniques, styles, climates and creativity from not one region but from both hemispheres, across three continents.
Welcome to one of the most enduring sips in all the world.

MAX SCHUBERT, PENFOLDS' FIRST CHIEF WINEMAKER“

It is hard to combine innovation, versatility, and high-tech performance all into one. Yet, SEABOB, the world's fastest water-sled, manages to do exactly that while simultaneously being the pinnacle of luxury fun.
Founded in 2007 in Stuttgart, Germany, creativity and premium quality have been at the forefront of SEABOB. With thousands of SEABOB-Jets around the globe, this electricpowered propulsion device has become one of the top selling luxury yachting toys worldwide.
SEABOB is most widely recognized for its ability to glide across the water surface at speeds up to 14mph or take a dive into the world undiscovered by many, reaching depths up to 130ft. Electric and emission free, the precision that goes into every hand-crafted SEABOB is what makes this product one like no other.
There are three models available, the F5, F5S, and the top model — the F5SR, equipped with two HD cameras to capture the excitement. With zero prior training, all SEABOB models can be mastered in minutes by any age group.
After 15 years in the marine industry, SEABOB has partnered with over a dozen luxury yacht manufactures, creating custom designs unique to individual brands, yachts, and clients. The luxury yachting industry is one of the SEABOB-Jet’s most praised markets. A warm summer trip to the Amalfi Coast on an eighty-footer wouldn’t be as exciting without the thrill of SEABOB on board.
Continuously drawing the attention of on-lookers, SEABOB was designed to stand out with its bold colors and high speed. It is a luxury yachter’s dream toy; one is simply not enough. A fleet of SEABOB-Jets makes even the most lavish yacht look that much better.
Whether it be the coasts of the French Riviera, the colorful waters of the Caribbean, or the beaches of Hawaii, SEABOB can always be found alongside luxury yachting.
However, don’t let your location prevent you from enjoying SEABOB. While the brand was originally imagined with the ocean in mind, the SEABOB-Jet can be used in any body of water — whether it’s a lake, river, freshwater spring, or even a large pool.
This summer, we traveled to the Northeastern United States to join Allied Marine at their private rendezvous in Montauk, New York. It was an extraordinary event that captured the true essence of our role within the yachting industry. The Allied Marine team curated a one-of-a-kind experience for the families that attended, and SEABOB was a perfect match for the in-water day at Navy Beach.
All day long, kids and their parents were captivated by the pure fun SEABOB brought to the rendezvous weekend. Its compact size and easy-handling make it the ultimate family-friendly yacht toy — and frankly, SEABOB is a blast!

Custom Line 106' is the epitome of pure Italian excellence. The succinct lines of the bottom and hull maintain the exemplary hydrodynamic performance of the latest models in the brand’s planing range. The minimalist design melds interior and exterior into a single elegant whole, as the surfaces dovetail in an architectural harmony that breaks down the boundaries between the spaces.
A MASTERPIECE OF BEAUTY AND COMFORT
The surfaces are interconnected like a sculpture, crafting a fluid sequence of volumes running the length of the yacht. The stern vaunts a refined, clean-cut aesthetic, while the designers have dreamed up some larger, complementary spaces to relax and rest in further forward. The bow is linked to the flybridge, protected by two side windows and featuring a standard hard top with paired skylights – an exclusive area for admiring the wonders of the sea stretching out in all directions.
RESPLENDENT IN THE LIGHT
Natural illumination adds an extra dimension to the space, magnifying the pleasure of cruising. The generous floor-toceiling windows on the main deck let the sun filter through so that you can revel in every ripple.

NATURAL TECHNOLOGY
Advanced technology makes the cruising experience even more natural. The Dual Mode Transom (DMT) system is implemented with two hatches that cover the stairs when the vessel is under way, for complete aesthetic clarity; when moored or at anchor, they vanish into the middle of the door. The garage can accommodate a tender and three-seater jet ski. Electro-hydraulic stabilising fins with under-way and zerospeed modes plus gyroscopic stabilisers on request offer even greater comfort while at rest.

The Macallan has unveiled The Reach, an incomparable single malt whisky that reflects an extraordinary moment in time and exemplifies the enduring spirit that has been at the heart of the brand for almost 200 years.
Crafted during the Second World War in a period of increasing hardship, The Reach was laid to rest in 1940 before The Macallan was compelled to close its doors for the first time in its history.
Its very existence is testament to the care and commitment to uncompromised excellence that has driven The Macallan since it was founded in 1824. It also pays tribute to those who strived amid great adversity to resume distilling The Macallan’s spirit, as well as the craftspeople today who continue to uphold the brand’s values.
A rare single malt at 81 Years Old, The Reach is the oldest whisky ever released by The Macallan, crafted from a single, sherry seasoned oak cask. The dark, precious whisky is encased in an exquisite decanter created from mouth-blown, hot glass, cradled on a bronze sculpture of three hands.
Each hand represents characters in The Macallan’s history and their unique story. One commemorates the Distillery workers of 1940 who crafted the spirit into existence, in challenging times, over eight decades ago. Another is the hand of one-time chairman, Allan
Shiach, whose grandfather headed the company when this remarkable spirit was first consigned to its cask. The third is that of today’s Master Whisky Maker, Kirsteen Campbell, who carefully selected the 1940 cask used to create The Reach, deciding that now was the time to share this precious whisky with the world.
Reflecting its rarity and significance, The Reach is presented in unique packaging brought together by a collective of Scottish artisans. A tale of collaboration and connectivity, the result is a handcrafted quartet of liquid, glass, bronze and wood that is a fitting tribute to this very special whisky.
Highly limited to only 288 decanters worldwide, The Reach will be on display at The Macallan Estate Boutique from 9th February 2022 and later in The Macallan domestic and travel retail Boutiques. The RSP is $125,000 / £92,000 / €110,000.
This blaze of brilliant style, this irresistible thunderbolt, is ready to seduce owners and devotees of the Riva legend around the world.
Riva 88' Folgore is the new sportfly with a difference: potent and revolutionary with an almost sci-fi beauty, this is a yacht that is made to dazzle.
The magnetic allure of her design is all in the harmony between past and present, in the concept that unites innovative materials like carbon fiber with traditional stylish features from mahogany inlays to decorative steel.
Like all the masterpieces in Riva’s recent history, the 88' Folgore is a product of the partnership between Officina Italiana Design (the studio founded by Mauro Micheli with Sergio Beretta), the Product Strategy Committee headed by Piero Ferrari, and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department.
88' FOLGOREThe Ultimate Boat Show Style Guide inStyle Explore
The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is one of the most important events of the season, so you’ll need to dress the part if you want to do serious business at the next show. Whether you’re in the market and want to see many of the yachts for sale, or you just want to enjoy the social scene, our edit of the best looks for the day will have you covered.
A day at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show invariably involves a lot of walking and hopping between the must-see new yachts, so being practical is essential.
The best looks for men at the boat show are functional, versatile, and fashionable. To combat the South Florida humidity, dress like a boater, with a mix of lightweight and loose-fitting styles. Orlebar Brown’s linen and cotton-blend twill trousers look great with Ralph Lauren’s smart blue and white striped button down . Berluti’s boat shoes (3) are ideal for climbing aboard boats or roaming the docks and canvassing the acres of outdoor marine-accessories exhibits. Finish the look with a iconic Cartier Aviators and, a luxurious sport watch, such as the Patek Philippe Nautilus pictured below.
Ladies can pair a lightweight, cotton button down in a slim silhouette for a neat tuck - James Perse’s slub supima cotton version is ideal - with chic, high-waisted linen shorts, like Jonathan Simkhai’s belted ‘Rami’ shorts, for a pop of color and elegant style. When it comes to shoes, because you will be walking a lot, comfort is vital. Consider that you will be putting on and taking off your shoes all day to board and view various yachts, so think about what style would work best for you. We recommend your favorite easy slip-on silhouette sandals for exploring the yachts like Jimmy Choo’s brown leather sandals a perfect mix of elegant and easy. Choose a versatile light weight tote bag large enough to hold all your essentials, which in this case should undoubtedly include sunscreen, a pair of oversized sunglasses and a classic Rag & Bone straw fedora to protect yourself from the bright Florida sun. Complete your look with a stunning statement piece, such as the Slim Wavy Bangle from Akaila Reid and you’re ready to take on the show!

Weezie Towels is a luxury bath brand based in Atlanta, Georgia with a creative team office in Savannah. Recently introduced to Allied Marine, Weezie was thrilled to participate as a sponsor of the Rendezvous event in beautiful Montauk, New York this summer.
Luxury yachts call for luxury towels, making Weezie the perfect provision. We sat down with founders Liz Eichholz and Lindsey Johnson to learn more about Weezie Towels and their participation in this summer’s event.
How did you come to start a luxury bath brand?
The idea for what ultimately became Weezie came several years ago: Liz had recently gotten married, bought a new home in Savannah (upgrading from a tiny NYC apartment!), and was on the hunt for fresh towels. Unfortunately, the process proved to be frustrating and overwhelming: the jargon was confusing, quality was unpredictable, and embroidery options were archaic. What should have been a joyful experience really fell flat.
Liz approached Lindsey about the idea while she was in business school. The more people we talked to, it quickly became clear there was a gap in the market for a go-to, luxury bath towel brand. A year and a half of customer research and product development later, we launched Weezie in October 2018.
What makes your towels the best on the market?
Prior to launching the business, we surveyed thousands of consumers on preferences and found that it boiled down to three key attributes: softness, absorbency, and aesthetics. Too often, one of these qualities comes at the expense of the others: soft towels are not absorbent, and vice versa. In developing the Weezie towel, we leveraged a patented spinning technology that spins air
into each and every fiber for the optimal balance of softness and absorbency. We were equally thoughtful about aesthetics and design: rounding the corners, adding a drying hook, and offering endless customization options.
Tell us a bit about your experience at the Allied Marine Rendezvous event.
We so enjoyed connecting with the Allied Marine community at our Navy Beach, New York event and beyond. We greeted owners with custom Weezie coconut waters, enjoyed some sun on Weezie Beach Towel-adorned chaise lounges, and showcased some of our favorite products, including our Apres Swim line and newly debuted Yacht Bundle.
What are some of your favorite products for our readers, and where can we find you?
If we’re boat-bound for the weekend, one of our favorite hostess gifts is a customized Beach Bundle with the name of the yacht embroidered. High-quality, personalized gifts: what’s not to love?! You can shop us online at www.weezietowels.com and in-store at our flagship in Atlanta, Georgia.
