MUSIC TUITION GUIDE

LEARNING MUSIC AT ALL SAINTS Music is one of the world’s most popular art forms. It is also a creative language that is common to millions of people from all backgrounds. It is an important part of our daily lives and, as such, an integral part of the School curriculum. Music is studied at All Saints through: •

The curriculum (Prep to Year 12).

Individual instrumental and vocal tuition.

Choral groups, concert bands, string orchestras, big bands and ensembles in brass, woodwind and percussion.

Students who wish to participate in school instrumental ensembles are expected to take tuition on their instrument. The tuition can be either with an All Saints specialist or an external teacher of choice. Students wishing to participate in school choirs are encouraged to take vocal lessons, however this is not mandatory.

Music in the classroom Junior School

The aim of the classroom program is to foster and develop an aesthetic appreciation and understanding of music by engaging each child in instrumental performance, singing, listening and movement. Middle School

Students in the Middle School participate in classroom music and further develop skills in listening, composing and performing. Senior School

Music and the performance subject Music Extension are studied as elective courses and are offered as Queensland Studies Authority subjects. They prepare students for tertiary study and undertaking music as a vocation.

Music tuition

Students who take private or paired lessons at All Saints are expected to participate in the ensemble program when they have reached a sufficient standard (with the exception of Drum Kit for Leisure students). As their first priority, students who learn a band instrument will need to play in one of the concert bands, those learning a stringed instrument will need to play in one of the orchestras and vocal students will need to be in the choir. Private lessons are available on the following instruments: • • • • • • • • • •

Flute Oboe Clarinet Bassoon Saxophone French Horn Trumpet Trombone Euphonium Tuba

• • • • • • • • • •

Percussion Drum Kit Guitar Bass Guitar Piano Voice Violin Viola Cello Double Bass

Please note, paired lessons are only available on some of the above instruments and will only be offered to students who are in the early stages of musical development, and where suitable pairing can be achieved. After 12 months of paired tuition, students will be required to undertake private lessons. Students who wish to participate in any school ensembles or bands must take percussion lessons.

• •

Duration of a lesson is generally 30 minutes unless indicated otherwise. Longer lessons are at an increased cost. A ‘private’ lesson is on a one-to-one basis.

A ‘paired’ lesson consists of two students sharing a 30-minute lesson. This is only offered to beginners, where appropriate pairing can be achieved. After 12 months of paired tuition, students will be required to undertake private lessons. There is limited availability for paired lessons and not all instruments are included. Lessons will generally be held during school hours. Preference for lessons outside school hours will be given to Senior School students. Music tuition contracts are for a full semester. Rebates are not given where the full semester of tuition is not completed. A report from the student’s teacher is provided annually.

Music theor y

Theory lessons covering AMEB requirements in all grades are offered. Private or paired theory lessons can be taken, providing there are sufficient students in a particular grade.

Individual music lessons in Prep to Year 2

At All Saints, individual music lessons before Year 3 are not encouraged, as the focus during these early years instead is an enriching and rewarding class program delivered by a specialist music teacher.

Hire of school instruments

All Saints has some musical instruments which are available for hire. To aid with maintenance and repair costs, a nominal hire fee per semester is charged: $154.00* for band instruments, $88.00* for string instruments and $44.00* for desktop xylophones. After 12 months of tuition, students are expected to purchase their own instruments (with the exception of some larger instruments). *Including GST.

Termination of lessons Fees

Fees are calculated on a semester basis (two terms) of 16 lessons and invoiced at the beginning of Terms 1 and 3. Students should expect to receive 32 lessons in the year, however, if this is not the case accounts will be adjusted accordingly at the end of the year. Weekly Private Lessons 30 minutes - $701.80* 45 minutes - $1,036.20* 60 minutes - $1,370.60*

Notice of inability to attend a lesson

Weekly Paired Lessons 30 minutes $393.80* Small Group Theory (minimum three students) 30 minutes $297.00* * Including GST, per semester (16 lessons). Please note these fees are subject to change.

Payment options • •

If lessons are to be discontinued, the School requires formal notice from a parent or guardian by completing a cancellation form before the end of the semester. This form is available from either the Performing Arts office or can be downloaded from Parent Lounge or FIDO. Cancellations will not be accepted after lessons have either commenced, or have been timetabled for the semester. Notice of deadline dates are published regularly in Saints Alive.

Cash or cheque BPAY

Payments cannot be made via Parent Lounge nor any payment plan options. Accounts are due for payment each semester in advance.

For any term in which fees are not paid by the due date, an administration reimbursement cost of $75.00 will apply. In addition, an account rendered generation reimbursement cost of $20.00 per statement may be applied to overdue accounts.

Wherever possible, 48 hours’ notice should be given to either the Performing Arts Administration office or the appropriate music tutor if a student is unable to attend their lesson. If a student misses their lesson due to illness, every effort will be made to reschedule if notice has been given. When one student of a paired lesson is absent, the lesson cannot be rescheduled for that student. For prolonged illness, special arrangements must be made with the Director of Performing Arts. Please note, lessons missed due to extension of normal school holidays will not be rescheduled.

New enrolments

Co-curricular music enrolment forms for new students are available at the Performing Arts office and on FIDO. A signed enrolment form must be received by the Performing Arts Administration office before lessons can commence. If a vacancy is not available, students will be placed on a waiting list.
