Add a whole load of independent reading, season with some free choice writing, and add a side of writer’s notebook.
8. Gently lower a few residents from Amana Living into the mix with a few games of Rumi K, some puzzles and a giant game of Connect Four. 9. Add a little rainfall of sandwiches and apples curated by some cheeky crows. 10. Splash in some Athletics, a Swimming Carnival and a pinch of Cross Country running. 11. Mix in some Year 5 HITS with a touch of inquiry that makes a real difference for our planet. Mix it all together, bake for approximately 200 days and… you will have yourself an egg-cellent year!

Outdoor Learning Program
On Thursday, 8 November a group of very excited Year 3 students ventured from the College for their first ever Outdoor Learning Program (OLP). Leaving family for a night and having the opportunity to look after themselves forms the basis of the program. The OLP ran for two days and utilised the beautiful Point Walter to engage the students in activities ranging from nature play, environmental work and opportunities to problem solving through team building in the natural surroundings. Students also participated in activities such as kite building and flying fox activities. A night time astronomy session which linked directly to Science learning was a highlight. Sincere thanks to all the All Saints’ staff who attended the OLP, and particular thanks to Mrs Katrina Goods who coordinated the program.

Year 4
Outdoor Learning Program
On Wednesday, 24 October at 7.45am the bus departed from All Saints’ for Moore River, Guilderton. On board were 56 very excited Year 4 students and some wonderful College staff. Once we had reached our destination, Year 4Z went to Tuppin House and Year 4L to the Guilderton Caravan Park campsite for their night in tents. After some settling in time at each site, we all met up together again on the Moore River foreshore to begin our activities. Mr Dornan, a former All Saints’ teacher, and his Year 4 students from St Joseph’s School in Moora came down to work with us for the day. This was a great addition to this year’s Outdoor Learning Program (OLP). We did lots of fun and educational activities on OLP. All of them were brilliant, but one stood out to the whole of Year 4…FISHING! A few people caught three fish, some caught two and some even caught none, but everyone had a great time fishing together. The most common fish caught in the river was Black Bream. Another great activity was the Recycle Relay. This taught Year 4 so much about how to recycle items the right way. Building sand sculptures from objects found down by the riverside was also loads of fun. Most were based on sea creatures and there were many different types, from mermaids to turtles and pelicans.
Some of the other activities included going for a fascinating walk where we learnt a lot about weathering, erosion and human impact; Marine Exploration, where we identified objects in the sea and on the shore; creating an art sculpture to take home with us; and learning to sleep in tents. Many of us had never slept in a tent before, so this was very exciting.
Overall, the Year 4s loved OLP! We would like to thank the teachers and staff for all the planning they did to make our OLP so much fun. Also, our parents for helping us to get ready for OLP and remembering to pick us up from school on Friday after the OLP had finished!

Year 5
Outdoor Learning Program
The three Year 5 classes travelled to Nanga Bush Camp in Dwellingup from 26−29 March 2018 for our Outdoor Learning Program (OLP). Over the four days we had an excellent time socialising with our peers and the OLP leaders, and participated in a lot of different activities. There were six different groups that were run by amazing teachers and supervisors. We slept in dorms for two nights and in tents for one night. The dorms were very cramped and dusty, and the tents got very wet at night, but we still had a good night’s sleep. It was really cold at night in Dwellingup, especially in the tents. Throughout the OLP we participated in many activities, including Rafting, Raft Building, Bush Survival and a Tree Tops Adventure. Rafting was such great fun and we played games on the river and everyone, including the teachers, got very wet. Brrrr; the water was cold! The Tree Tops Adventure was a new activity for most of us. We did a lot of climbing and zip-lining, which is basically hanging from a rope and flying across the treetops. We had an interesting variety of food every day for our meals on the OLP. We enjoyed pizza, burgers, sausages, and so much more. The cooked breakfast was scrumptious on a cold and frosty morning. All in all, we learnt a great deal on the Year 5 OLP, and we hope to be able to use our new skills and knowledge outside the College as well as on our next OLP.

Year 6
Outdoor Learning Program
The Year 6 Outdoor Learning Program (OLP) was a time to remember. From Archery and Raft Building to the scary campfire stories, every moment was well lived and enjoyed by all students. OLP was an amazing opportunity to express ourselves and open up to different people outside our friendship groups. Some of the highlights were Geocaching, Fishing and just going for walks along the smooth sandy beach. The Year 6 students embarked on their journey to Albany early on Monday, 30 April. We had a six-hour bus ride to look forward to, so we occupied ourselves with books, board games, and general chatter. On the way back, we watched movies to pass time. On the OLP we did a variety of enjoyable and entertaining activities. Everyone really enjoyed Archery, which for some was a new experience and for others was an opportunity to practise an old skill. Another highlight was visiting the National Anzac Centre, which was highly informative and an interesting chance to learn about the past. This was followed by a trip to Albany’s historic Whaling Station, where we went on a tour and learnt more about whales and whaling. Camp activities were amazing and all of us enjoyed them.
The OLP accommodation was very good; we shared dorms and had lots of fun together. Nearby were a campfire area and a tree which we loved climbing. In the dorms we got to socialise and discover new friendships, and we shared meals and participated in the activities together. The sceneries were spectacular, especially on the Bushwalk on the first day when we walked to a high rock from which we could see most of the camp! It’s hard to explain the views and how well taken care of we were.
You just need to see it for yourselves.

Canberra Tour
When our group arrived at the Perth Airport on 4 July 2018, all 36 Year 6 students gathered in one spot and collected our awesome All Saints’ beanies. We checked in with the five Junior School staff and then we were off on our six-day adventure. After a flight full of activities we arrived at Canberra Airport and then headed to the Gold Creek Tourist Resort. After a rough first night’s sleep, we were all excited about our first day in Canberra and visiting Parliament House. We learnt so much and even participated in a debate. Afterwards, we headed over to the National Museum of Australia where we learnt about the past and played a game with robots about Victorian times. At the Australian Institute of Sport we had a runner as our guide who told us about how athletes train, and we even saw gymnasts training! Next was a trip to the very tall Telstra Tower situated above the summit of Black Mountain. The next day we went to the Old Parliament House to learn about law and politics; to Questacon, where a lot of us faced our fears and went down the slide; and to the Australian War Memorial where we were privileged to take part in a service. On the Friday we had the surprise of playing Laser Tag, while Saturday was spent tobogganing down the hills and having snowball fights at Perisher Snowfields. The Royal Australian Mint was a very interesting experience on Sunday, as was the Cockington Green Gardens which has a fascinating display of miniature buildings. Then we went to the National Gallery of Australia to view the beautiful artworks, and to Mount Ainslie to witness the spectacular view before a fun game of bowling. On the last day of the tour we were all sad to leave Canberra, but enjoyed our final activities; visiting the National Arboretum and the National Zoo and Aquarium before heading back on a plane to our families in Perth.
