Dance
The Junior School Dance Program in 2018 fostered the improvement of imaginative, creative, physical and artistic skills and responses in all students. The students worked to develop self-confidence in communicating ideas through shapes made by their bodies, choreographing short routines and performing in front of their peers. The principal focus this year has been the advancement of technical and compositional skills within a social context. Young children learn the basics of Dance through group work and Dance games, while older children explore the elements of Dance in cooperative class and group activities. This year we had three cocurricular groups of Junior School dancers showcase their skills at the College Dance Concert, Presence, on the stage of the beautiful Centre for Performing Arts. 2018 has been another great year of Dance in the Junior School. I am looking forward to fostering further skills and knowledge of Dance in the students in 2019.

Drama
In 2018 students in Years 5 and 6 were given an opportunity to learn performance skills and develop their self-confidence by taking a lesson of Drama once a week. In these classes, students were exposed to a variety of performance styles and built upon their performance skills to shape creative performances. Through improvisation, playbuilding and performance, students were encouraged to express themselves and their ideas in many different ways, while supporting each other’s growth as confident performers. The Year 5s explored improvisation and scriptwriting and devised theatre this year. The students learnt about the concept of performing in ‘found spaces’, developing theatre for new and exciting venues. They worked on creating original performances for the Year 5 Exhibition and explored how fairy tales can be changed to give different meanings, before focusing on how the audience can interact with performers through Forum Theatre. The Year 6s focused on improvisation, playbuilding and devising based on stimuli such as The Lost Thing by Shaun Tan. They created and performed their own pieces at the Year 6 Exhibition and explored how Drama can be used to solve problems through Forum Theatre.

Music
Richard Gill
All students in the Junior School engage in the rich Music program that inducts them into the practices of musicianship. The classroom Music program involves students in active music making through singing, folk dancing, creative movement and playing instruments. Students learn to read and write music, to listen analytically and for enjoyment, and to compose their own music. The program, inspired by Orff and Kodály, appeals to students’ humanity and asks them to find it in themselves and others. The cocurricular Music program offers individual instrumental and vocal tuition, Choirs, Wind Band and String Ensembles, which provide further opportunities to engage in active music making and performance. The Year 3 students undertake the String and Recorder Program, while the Year 5s are offered the chance to learn an orchestral instrument. Both programs ignite a love of music in the students and help to grow a community of musicians who perform as individuals and in ensembles. 2018 started with the Choral Festival, a chance for every student to prepare and perform a program of songs as a class group. The final performances are enjoyed by all students in the Junior School, who want to win the Choral Festival Shield for their class. A Delicate Web of Life was the Junior School Concert in Term 3, and it explored human responsibility in relation to endangered species. Each class from Pre-Primary to Year 4 engaged deeply with this concept and prepared a unique performance in response, ranging from creative movement to speech rhyme and xylophone compositions, choral singing, and a scripted drama. Students shared the hope that they will be the change!

SENIOR SCHOOL SS18
ALL SAINTS’ COLLEGE
In 2018, the inaugural year for the Institute, we have focused our attention on establishing some ways in which we can research, trial and implement worldleading Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 learning and teaching environments for All Saints’ College staff and students. A key first initiative was to form the Beyond Boundaries Advisory Group (BBAG) so that we can reach beyond the school for inspiration and advice in a rapidly changing world. A diverse range of leaders from educational, business, industry and social enterprise were invited to become founding members to act as a ‘think tank’ and to provide guidance as the BBI works to respond and contribute to global trends, not only within education but also in the world beyond. We are very grateful for their contributions. Our first BBAG meeting in May was led by Patron, Professor Yong Zhao, who addressed the group and led a discussion about the future of education. Our second meeting, held in October, was addressed by Dr Jan Owen AM (CEO, Foundation for Young Australians) and Peter Hutton (Director, Future Schools Alliance). The focus of this discussion was on the horizons and barriers in business, industry, higher education and the impacts for Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 schools. Both meetings were followed by round table discussions with education leaders from schools and universities, politicians and government officials. The BBI has focused on three learning trajectories at the College in 2018. In turn, the teaching staff have focused on, firstly, Cultures of Thinking; secondly, Personalising Learning and Differentiation; and finally, Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The Cultures of Thinking (CoT) trajectory saw teachers across the College focus their attention on the cultural forces that play out in our classroom – time, modelling, language, environment, interactions, routines, expectations and opportunities – using the theory of Harvard University’s Project Zero. Supported by Harvard consultant Mark Church and, later, Ron Ritchhart, our teaching staff trialled and reflected on how thinking routines leverage the opportunities for making thinking visible and creating a sharpened focus on critical and creative thinking. The CoT trajectory culminated in a TeachMeet sharing opportunity for teachers from across the campus. Our focus on Personalising Learning and Differentiation has seen a number of projects developed across the College. The Junior School has developed the Warriors on Waste project, the Science Atelier, and optimising Mathematics learning through developing relevant, rigorous differentiated learning opportunities. In the Senior School a number of key projects have been developed in 2018 aimed at personalising and differentiating learning: the HASS Headquarters Program, a revised Year 10 Science program, Project X Arts experiences in Years 7 and 8, and a new model of individualised learning experiences in Year 9 Physical Education. Finally, the introduction of on-campus VET certificates has seen many of our Years 11 and 12 students earn nationallyrecognised qualifications during the school day. Entrepreneurial-minded is a disposition to think and act entrepreneurially, defined in this initiative as learners whose curiosity leads them to seek out and identify or solve problems that are worth solving. They look at problems as opportunities rather than as dead ends. They apply their creativity and talents to develop innovative ideas and solutions. They care about the quality of what they produce, embracing mistakes as markers for learning and improvement. They are energised by the potential benefits to others, locally or globally, from what they do and produce. (From the
Mitchell Institute report: The Paradigm Shifters: Entrepreneurial Learning in Schools)
The final focus for 2018, on Innovation and Entrepreneurship, has seen the growth of entrepreneurial learning opportunities across the College. Some of the distinct features of entrepreneurial learning include: identifying and investigating real world problems and opportunities; creating authentic artefacts (products or services) of value to others; working in teams; and iterative experimentation over an extended period of time. As well as curricular and cocurricular programs in Junior and Senior School through Creative Industries, the Foundation for Young Australians $20 Boss (and the Junior School $2 version), 2018 has seen the growth of Propeller Industries and the successful launch of Runway, our Pop-up Shop. In its first year, the BBI has established itself within the national education community as a site for developing future-focused perspectives, programs and opportunities that ensure All Saints’ students are energised and empowered for the exciting futures that await them.

From the Dean of Student Wellbeing
Next time you are walking through the College, it is well worth stepping into Senior School Reception, not only to be greeted warmly, but also to have a quick look at the video that is playing on the screen. Of all the footage that you might see, my favourite scenes are those of the final exit of our outgoing Year 12 students as they “walk the Colonnade”. Here our valedictorians of 2018 walk inside a line made up of every student from Years 7−11 and staff members. Our departing Year 12 students smile, cry, wave and hug everyone who has supported them or shared their journey, and younger students engage with their Year 12 friends who have helped them on their own unique journey. In the Colonnade we see a connected community that is the result of authentic opportunities to work together, mentor, lead and encourage each other in our growth as a community and as individuals. An area of ongoing focus for the Wellbeing Team has been to provide ‘real world’ opportunities for our students, to engender student agency and build a sense of meaning, purpose and belonging. Over time this has taken the form of student representation on Councils and taking responsibility for a variety of events at the College. These include student leadership in Captains’ roles, in Peer Support, as coaches and in umpiring. More recently these roles have evolved to include leading College tours for prospective families and taking responsibility for other roles that once belonged to staff. We have seen an expansion of the ownership students have towards their involvement with Service Learning, with students becoming Ambassadors, Advocates and Mentors within and beyond the College. In these roles they have represented the College and our partner organisations to the local, national and international community, seeking to make a positive difference to their world. 2018 has seen yet another evolution of Student Wellbeing through student agency. There has been a continued growth in opportunities for students to serve with wisdom and courage in the expansion of our Teach Learn Grow program. All Saints’ students continue to work alongside the communities associated with Bayulu Remote Community School in Fitzroy Crossing, and have established a new connection at Muludja Remote Community School to provide educational support for their Junior School students. In addition, the new Voices program saw College Media students also visit the same area to record the stories of significant figures from the Walmajarri and Gooniyandi people and, with them, find ways to share their rich history and culture. We have also seen far greater involvement of students in driving their own learning and being an integral part of the opportunities presented to their peers. This has taken place in Creative Industries, with students being given real problems that exist for our Service partners in aged and disability care, environmental sustainability and support of the homeless. Students have worked directly with organisations providing for these areas. Wellbeing is taking its place within the curriculum, making the connection with teaching and learning tangible and realising many of the aims of Academic Care. We are a College that, like the footage played in Reception, is becoming increasingly of the students, by the students and for the students. However, there is also a shift towards enabling each other and looking beyond their own needs; there is a growing understanding that All Saints’ students have an agency that reaches beyond our community. We are embracing an “of the students, by the students and for the world” way of being well, and are looking ever more upward and outward, beyond our own needs, to those of each other and the world in which we live underpinned by a belief in our ability to make a positive difference. In our ongoing endeavours to deliver the very best Student Wellbeing outcomes, I am blessed to work with a wonderful team of Heads of House, Year Coordinators, School Psychologists, Tutors, support staff and our Chaplain. This year we have welcomed to that team, Mr Oliver Beath as our Years 11/12 Coordinator, Mr Scott Corbett as the Acting Head of Service Learning (which will be renamed to Head of Catalyst: Our Centre for Service and Social Enterprise in 2019), and Rev Helen Corr, our new Chaplain. Sadly, in 2018 we farewelled Mr Steven Davies who was appointed Principal of St Mark’s Anglican Community School. I would also like to recognise the much-loved Mrs Sue Manolas (Student Services Officer) who is entering her 30th year of care for students at All Saints’. The last word needs to go to our students, with whom it is a great privilege to work, as it is to witness the myriad of ways in which they lead, with or without a badge. As a community we are blessed with students who actively seek to provide care for each other and for the world in which they live. This is most evident in the work of the Student Council which has represented and led the student body so ably in 2018. I thank the members for their embodiment of the College values, expressed through their presence among the younger students and their peers as strong role models and leaders in service.

From the College Captains
Last year we were told that Year 12 flies by quickly, and now here we are passing on that same sentiment. To be the 2018 College Captains has been an immense privilege and has provided us with extremely rewarding once-in-a-lifetime moments and experiences we will never forget. Our aim for the year was to increase student involvement in College life, and through extensive work with our Council, Rev Russell and Ms Provis, we have endeavoured to hand over as much control and opportunity to the younger students and student leaders as possible. We have aimed for students from Year 7 all the way to Year 12 to feel they can get involved with whatever they want, and have encouraged them to lean in to anything that comes their way. Our Assembly flash mob was part of this lean in philosophy, and we look forward to seeing it develop in the All Saints’ community. From our first coming together at Leadership Camp at the end of last year (one of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences for both of us) it’s been clear we have had an incredible Student Council. We could not think of a better group of people to have worked with throughout our captaincy. Every single person has brought something unique and valuable to the team, and it has been nothing short of inspirational watching the Council grow and develop. Through every fundraiser, activity and Council event we were lucky to be able to rely on such a diligent and committed group of students. Ms Provis, Ms Aguiar, Mr Beath, Rev Russell and Mr Davies: your support throughout this year and our entire Senior School experience is something that we will never forget. Your desire to see us succeed and achieve our goals is one of the key reasons we have seen so much positive development over the last six years. We truly have endless gratitude for your efforts, as well as the efforts of all ASC staff members. We would also like to thank our Year 12 cohort for being such an amazing year group with which to spend this journey. We wish you the best of luck for the future and have the utmost faith in your ability to succeed.

From the Academic Captain
It’s been an incredible honour to humbly follow in the footsteps of great Academic Captains past, from continuing the tradition of Peer Tutoring to developing new projects in support of our rich academic program. Peer Tutoring now welcomes students to bring a friend or two, creating an environment in which everyone can comfortably ask their ‘silliest’ questions, which has encouraged more students to get involved, and improve their academic marks and confidence. New to 2018, the Literacy Mentors Service Learning program saw some Year 10 students pair with a buddy in Year 4 to read appropriately levelled books and strengthen literacy skills. Along with specific project help for Transition students, long-lasting and close friendships were forged. Most excitingly this year, the College’s first student-led newspaper, the All Saints’ Times, was developed. This publication is entirely developed by the students, and we invite all to participate by producing creative works or working behind the scenes in design. Although it’s taken a long while to get organised, we are thrilled to see what the future holds. All the best to next year’s Publications Captain Elise Anthony who will undoubtedly cultivate and develop this newspaper. A central website with revision quizzes, help forums and a symposium for feedback on schoolrelated issues was also developed in 2018 and will be released to students in 2019! Thank you to Myles Keeffe (Year 9) who worked selflessly and compassionately throughout the year on this incredible resource. I wish enthusiasm and ambition for the 2019 Academic Captain Shevanka Dias Abeyagunawardene to facilitate a culture of courage in seeking help, kindness in helping others, and perseverance through everything within our College.

From The Arts Captains
2018 has been another exciting year for The Arts, creating many new connections and inviting back familiar Artists-in-Residence to the College, such as Niharika Senapati from the Melbourne-based Dance company Chunky Move, and Guy Masterson. The Hothouse Company (HCo) is ever expanding, with the introduction this year of the HCo Drama and Media Hub, along with other exciting opportunities like The Guardians Project, headed by playwright, director and actor Jeffrey Jay Fowler. This year has also been full of exciting performances and events in The Arts, including the College Production of Little Shop of Horrors, the Dance Concert Presence, and the annual Art, Media, Design & Technologies’ Exhibition. It was amazing to see so many students committing to these projects with such enthusiasm and dedication, which was wonderfully captured by professional photographer Jon Green, who photographed the Production and Concert. Being the 2018 Arts Captains has been such a beneficial experience; and it has been inspirational to have this leadership role within such a thriving community. The wisdom we have gained will guide us throughout our life after All Saints’ College. We would like to thank and acknowledge all the staff within The Arts for all their outstanding work, constant support and buzzing enthusiasm that they’ve provided us over the years. Mr Roberts, Miss Codalonga, Mr Clarke and Mr Trezona are just some of the many staff who have gone above and beyond for us. As we depart the College and our role as The Arts Captains, we’re excited to see the 2019 Captains take our place and look forward to the work they’ll provide within this role. It’s been a pleasure to work with The Arts Department, and we both look forward to returning to the College through the HotHouse Company in the near future.

From the Environment Captain
The role of the 2018 Environment Captain has been especially rewarding, given the increasing interest in environmental responsibility at the College. I have taken this opportunity to improve All Saints’ habits by supporting Mr Gale’s process of the implementation of new recycling bins across the campus. To bridge the gap between the Junior and Senior Schools, a Junior School Sustainability Club has been established this year, thanks to Miss Chatto. This newly formed club has been created to encourage innovative and critical thinking across the College, specifically targeting environmental concerns. Furthermore, Ms Strentz’s creativity and passion have proven to be a great deal of support to all new projects, including the Go Green in 2018 studentled team that is working to increase recycling at the College. The team is planning activities to build awareness and to encourage more students to be involved in environmental issues on and around campus. Our College’s environment group, the LEO Club, run by Mr Reynolds and me, has offered support to these projects. I am excited to see the progression towards an even more environmentally friendly campus and community in the future. Finally, I’m incredibly thankful and fortunate for the guidance given to me in this role by a series of passionate and supportive staff members, including Ms Dolan, Mr Reynolds, Ms Strentz, Mr Gale and Miss Chatto, as well as various other staff, and students.

From the Functions Captain
This year I was incredibly fortunate to be appointed the 2018 Functions Captain. My role began in Term 3 last year with the opportunity to design the Leavers’ Jackets for my peers to wear through their final year at the College. I was able to facilitate a vote for the best design and cater for the majority of the year group. The next term I began organising the College Ball, which was themed as an enchanted forest with a modern-day twist. The evening was held at the end of Term 1 this year and was a spectacular event, with everyone looking amazing while celebrating their final year at All Saints’. The Ball would not have been possible without my amazing Committee which helped me with organising every aspect. Around the middle of this year I was able to organise another night to remember, this time for the Year 11s. There was a great turnout to the Dinner Dance, with all the students dancing throughout the night. I thoroughly enjoyed planning a surprise for all the Year 11s and 12s after the mid-year examinations. A bright pink Mr Whippy van rolled up near The Common to serve free ice creams to the students to reward them for putting in such a great effort to get to this part of the year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my partner in crime Mr Beath. What a legend you have been in supporting me throughout my role this year and helping in every aspect! Also, many thanks to my Committee for putting in a lot of effort throughout the year and the College for its support. Good luck to Ella Trolio who will be taking on the role of Functions Captain next year − I know you will rock the show!

From the Service Captains
To be 2018 Service Captains has been an incredibly exciting and rewarding opportunity. We have learnt a lot from our experience of working alongside others; helping us to grow and be further involved in the community beyond All Saints’. We cannot thank Rev Russell enough for his help and guidance this year, especially in the formation of the Year 9 Service Council. This new Council has further increased engagement with Service in younger years at the College, which wouldn’t have been possible without his mentoring and support throughout the year. We have continued our involvement in and support of our Service partner organisations, hosting events within the College and wider communities, including Wheelchair for a Day and Basketball Game supporting Rebound WA, Disabled Surfers Association, and The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal in which we collectively raised more than $5 000. The Anglicare School Sleepout was another great event involving a group of students from All Saints’ who fundraised and spent a night sleeping on cardboard with 13 other schools at Optus Stadium. This event was a great success, with All Saints’ students raising around $6 180 and developing a stronger awareness of those sleeping rough in our community. In the Senior School, we started a new initiative with the formation of the Year 9 Service Council. A group of 13 Year 9 students met fortnightly and helped us greatly in planning, discussing ideas and promoting various Service events, including the Year 8 Social at Bounce, in support of Anglicare WA. The India Immersion and Fitzroy Crossing Immersion provided some incredibly eye-opening and rewarding opportunities for All Saints’ students to immerse themselves in different cultures and provide support and service to those in the local and global community. We have thoroughly enjoyed our involvement in the Service Learning program this year and wish next year’s Captains the very best of luck in continuing to encourage others to share this passion.

From the Sports Captains
2018 has been an exciting year, with all students continuing to demonstrate great talent and enthusiasm for the sporting program at All Saints’. This year we’ve had success at all three major Associated and Catholic Colleges of WA (ACC) events. The ACC Swimming team showed great dedication to training and performed their best this year at the ACC Carnival. Their hard work and dedication paid off with All Saints’ placing sixth overall. The Cross Country season was a great success with large numbers of students dedicated to training. This commitment helped the College to achieve one of its long-term goals of placing in the top 10 at the ACC Cross Country Carnival. Most recently, at the ACC Athletics ‘B’ Division Carnival, there were some great achievements with All Saints’ achieving third place and winning the overall Girls’ Trophy. Interhouse Sport was a great success at the College this year. We had many senior students who acted as coaches and umpires for the younger students, who in turn showed a keen eagerness to get involved with the Sport they were playing each afternoon. Throughout 2018 we hosted Staff vs Student Sports competitions, with both staff and students showing a high level of competitiveness and great sportsmanship as they went head to head in rounds of Basketball, Netball and Volleyball. This year we also held two World Cup events for Senior School students. Term 1 saw the Futsal World Cup kick-off, with much enthusiasm from the competitors. We had significant involvement from students who played, and a large crowd at each game showed strong support. Due to the high level of interest, we decided to host a Netball World Cup in Term 3; this also was met with keen excitement and was another great success. We would like to express a huge thank you to Miss Gray, Miss Greene and all the Health and Physical Education staff for their ongoing support and encouragement throughout the year!

From the Cowan House Captains
It has been a great honour and privilege to be able to serve Cowan House as Captains this year. Cowan is a House renowned for the unparalleled participation of its members who put their heart and soul into every competition in which they take part. The first big competition was the Interhouse Swimming Carnival. Here we saw what impact Cowan has as a collective group. We achieved a respectable placing for these great efforts, and the work that our talented Cowan competitors put in couldn’t have made us any prouder of our House. The enthusiasm of ‘Cowanites’ has shone throughout this year, with students showing their House spirit in interhouse Sport, Debating, Spelling and Quiz. Most notably, congratulations to the Cowan Years 7 and 8 Girls’ and Years 9 and 10 Boys’ Soccer teams which won their Term 1 and Term 2 interhouse Sport competitions, respectively. We celebrated the annual House breakfast in our last term of captaincy. This special tradition in Cowan House strengthens the deep connection between students of different year groups and teachers. It is obvious to the two of us that the immense amount of work, time and energy that Mrs Watt, our amazing Head of House, has put into Cowan and into showing us the ropes, has been the driving force behind our success this year. The efforts of all the coaches, marshals, Peer Support leaders, councillors and volunteers, have been fundamental to the smooth running of our activities this year. We wish next year’s Captains, Catherine Choong and Eleanor Crowhurst, the best of luck. We are confident that you will strive to bring Cowan even more success!

DURACK HOUSE
From the Durack House Captains
L-R: Ruth Nesaraj, Mr Gregory Hill, Amy Burwood
If you ever had to come up with one word to describe Durack House, it would be ‘participation’. Over the past six years Mr Hill has always told us that it doesn’t matter if we win or lose, it’s all about participating and doing our best. This year, we may have not won any Carnivals, but every Durack student from Years 7−12 has given 100% to the House, whether it be in Swimming, Athletics, Cross Country, Debating, House Choir or After-school Sport. We are so proud to have been a part of Durack’s incredible enthusiasm and achievements this year and to have had the opportunity to get to know so many of our fellow Durack students, thanks to our position as House Captains. We started our roles by getting involved in welcoming the Year 7s to the College on their Orientation Day. We thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to get to know the new members of Durack House and help them settle in, along with the other members of the Durack House Council. Term 1 saw us involved in the annual Interhouse Swimming Carnival in which we all enjoyed a fun day of competition and dressing up! During this term we also kick-started all our other interhouse competitions such as After-school Sport, Debating, Quiz, Chess and Spelling. In Term 2 we had the Interhouse Cross Country Carnival in which Durack students put in an amazing effort; we were inspired by the level of energy and participation on the day. During our final term as House Captains we participated in and encouraged the Durack students through our final Interhouse Athletics Carnival where we came sixth place, but nevertheless had an awesome day and managed to fill every single event. We have particularly enjoyed being a part of the Durack House Choir where we sang This is Me from The Greatest Showman movie. We would like to say a big thank you to Mr Hill for giving us this opportunity as Durack House Captains and for everything he has done to support us this year. We would also like to thank all the Durack teachers for their ongoing support throughout the year. Last, but not least, we would like to thank the Durack students who always participated with enthusiasm and commitment, and made our job so enjoyable. To the 2019 Durack House Captains Elyse Belford-Thomas and Andrew Jiang: we wish you the best of luck and know that Durack is in very good hands for next year.

FORREST HOUSE
L-R: Ryan Garvey, Ms Brooke Haendel, Piper Gregory
From the Forrest House Captains
We are beyond proud of the commitment, enthusiasm and support that Forrest House continues to show.
Throughout this year Forrest students participated in many opportunities which they readily took on and enjoyed. In all House activities we had strong participation, and the teamwork and integrity that were displayed helped us to achieve some wonderful outcomes and brought us closer as a House.
Forrest has continued to show its dedication to Service and the wider community. We contributed to the Wheelchairs for Kids organisation by collecting aluminium to fund and build wheelchairs for those less fortunate. Earlier this year at the College’s Pasar Malam Twilight Market, the House Council was able to collect aluminium cans and raise awareness of the organisation within the wider community. We are pleased to see the start of a similar program in the Junior School, and look forward to being able to witness how this initiative continues to grow and develop over the coming years. We appreciate the significant contribution that Forrest families have made to this year’s College Food Drive. We were thrilled at the number of donations that we received this year and the commitment of students who volunteered to organise this event and pack items.
We would like to say a special thank you to our Head of House Ms Haendel for all the work she does behind the scenes, and for providing us with support, care and guidance throughout our Senior School journey. We would like to thank the Forrest House Tutors for their unwavering support and the daily effort and care that they put into the House. We also thank the Forrest House Council for their encouragement and ceaseless assistance to us, and also their thoughtful and hard-working attitude to helping the House wherever they can. And most importantly, we thank all the members of Forrest: you are all such wonderful, enthusiastic people, and you make Forrest the House that it is.
Forrest truly does means family.

MURDOCH HOUSE
L-R: Michael Fallon, Mrs Christine Kroeger, Steven Thiele
From the Murdoch House Captains
It is clear to see that the Murdoch staff and students have done their best to lean in this year, and they couldn’t have done it any better, making 2018 another hugely successful year for Murdoch House. We started the year with a victory in the Interhouse Swimming Carnival. The teamwork and strength shown by the students were exceptional, and everyone stepped up. Term 1 also saw the return of the popular House Day, incorporated into a round-robin activity day from Year 7 all the way up to Year 12, which combined with our annual Year 7 Easter Egg Hunt. New bonds and friendships were forged across the years during this event. This year we have seen the continuation of the Murdoch Pizza Fundraiser, as well as a Murdoch Crêpe Stall at the Pasar Malam Twilight Market, both raising much-needed funds for Rebound WA. Our participation in cultural events has remained as robust as ever this year, with strong efforts put in by all. The Murdoch House spirit has now become legendary, something we will miss in later years. A huge thank you to Mrs Kroeger for being an incredible Head of House, and to the Murdoch House Tutors, particularly Mrs von Dietze and Miss Perrella who assisted with the Pasar Malam stall. It has been a remarkably busy year, but all the Murdoch students can be exceptionally proud of what they have achieved in 2018. We wish everyone in Murdoch, particularly the 2019 Murdoch House Captains Lauren Hanson and Bartholomew Tang, the best of luck.

O’CONNOR HOUSE
L-R: Mitch Stone, Mr Steve Young, Ellie Smith
From the O’Connor House Captains
Our year as the 2018 O’Connor House Captains has been an eventful one. From Year 7 Orientation Day kicking off the year to House Choir rounding it off, both of us have had a blast taking in new experiences and embracing our new responsibilities to further our House, help with the leadership of the College and act as role models for our peers. This position has allowed both of us to form great relationships with other members of our House, develop more professional relationships with our teachers, House Tutors and, most of all, our Head of House Mr Young. We are both extremely grateful for Mr Young’s leadership and encouragement this year; the experience wouldn’t have been the same without his flexibility and helpfulness. Many College staff alongside Mr Young have enabled the experience as House Captains to be what it has been for us: in particular our Tutors, Ms Schoen and Ms Knoblauch, and Rev Russell (Head of Service Learning before his move to Dean of Student Wellbeing in Semester 2). We both thank you for your support, advice, assistance and compassion throughout the year. You have all made our experience so much smoother by supporting us with our fundraiser, workloads or stresses. We are also very grateful to our awesome House Council which helped us brainstorm for fundraisers, organise events and assist us with running the House we love so much. Thank you to everyone in O’Connor who has leaned in this year, filling events, signing up for interhouse activities and supporting each other from the sidelines. One of the best aspects of our year was supporting our athletes at the Interhouse Athletics and Swimming Carnivals, committing 100% to the House we are so proud to be a part of and are pleased to have led in 2018.
