DAY SPA & TREATMENT CENTER MARVIN, NORTH CAROLINA 7 weeks | Individual Work | Fall 2021 Community members of Marvin, NC are all familiar with Efird park, a central gathering space offering visitors opportunities to enjoy nature and embark on trails as alternate ways to move throughout the city and suburbs. The park acts as a refreshing and balanced space connecting people and ultimately guiding visitors to the final point, a scenic lake. This finalizes guests’ journey through the park and acts as a space for reflection, relaxation, and release. Pathways throughout the park engage residential communities, encouraging social interaction, exercise, recreational, and educational opportunities Efird park’s quality of being a refreshing and connected space to reset from daily stresses is representative of the qualities that Refresh medical Spa will conceptualize. The medical spa will act as the same buffer helping to ease and minimize pain, provide exercise and health assistance, and connect a community of individuals going through similar struggles to give them hope and tactics to live a comfortable, balanced life.

Lowered ceiling makes for a more intimate space that also provides a biophilic elements to the room. Blackout blinds are added to the windows to allow for user control of daylight and to assist with light sensitivity issues
YOGA STUDIO The ceiling design in the Yoga Studio was Inspired by the overhead canopies that trees form as your walking through trails. The top of the canopies create abstract shapes where light peaks through. The yoga ceiling takes this form in a linear approach with light features peaking out of wood

Release medical spa is alternatively a residential unit for the owners of the facility to reside in. The unit features a fully functional and universally designed kitchen, living room, and office space that doubles as a guest bedroom. The unit is located in close proximity to staff areas of the spa while still providing privacy from the entirety of the treatment center. Design choices were made to reflect similar values of nature and sustainability as the rest of the spa, but still create a different vibe to lend the residents a space ‘away from their facility’.

BEAUTY AND LIFESTYLE BRAND NEW YORK OFFICE 7 weeks | Individual Work | Fall 2021 Both New York and NEXTs beauty and lifestyle brand oppose against a “one size fits all” mentality. This philosophy is represented through their office design, Inspired by WERO by SaaWee, a traditional Korean musical performance that can be seen in theaters across New York. SaaWee often performs in circular forms and includes not only musical aspects but also theatrical and visual movement aspects to create 3 dimensional experiences. WERO, translating to console, heals its diverse audiences with cross cultural rhythms and melodies and dazzling eclectic colors. Just as SaaWee takes their audience through different healing experiences, NEXT’s office design consists of similar experiences representing values of inclusion, collaboration, and diversity. Incorporating the bright colors, textures, movements, and healing value of nature seen in traditional WERO style, employees experience a unique and inspiring office environment and are motivated to work.

3D PARTI
WERO, translating to console, seeks to heal their audience through circular, unwinding movement. The parti and spatial planning of the office space encasulates this idea by creating a winding circulation path that guides guests through different interconnected workspaces and ultimatley leads to an impactful staircase. The stairs embody the healing 3D approach that WERO performances create by sending employees and guests to the upper level, consisting of social and rejuvinating spaces. 18

3D EXPERIENCE THROUGHOUT NEXT
Image of WERO’s perfomaning group SaaWee, sources from their website SaaWee was formed in 2018 by two Koreans, Sita Borahm Chay and Jihye Kim, to manifest spiritual aspects of Korean traditional music. Through contemporary music and art language , they connect with a global wide audience to heal them from stresses of daily life - more recently, the impact of COVID-19. Saawee uses 3D experiences to create a healing production that symbolizes the uniqueness of “now”. NEXT office space embodies this same concept of 3D experiences to heal employees and guests of stress, burnout, and dissatisfaction in order to create an inspiring and revitalizing work enviroment that encourages in person connection while balancing remote connection as well.

AUDIBLE | TACTILE | VISUAL NEXT office creates an audible experience by providing acousitcally sound open spaces as well as smaller nooks and meeting areas in order to maxmize privacy. In addition, to reflect the sound values of WERO, an auditory reset space including meditation spaces, a phone booth, and nap sacks with headphones offering nature sounds is incorperated within the space to provide relief and healing from the daily stresses of the office. NEXT products are included to be utilized for additional self care.
AUDIBLE | TACTILE | VISUAL To appeal to employees tactile experience within the office, varying materials are utilized through different spaces to maximize comfort and emphasize the brand. Technology also plays a role in this experience though accessible touch screen displays.
AUDIBLE | TACTILE | VISUAL Aiming to create a visual experience for employees and guests of NEXT’s office, visual curvalinear forms are incorperated throughout the space to not only reflect the brand of NEXT but also the circular movement of WERO.
