(n.) lit. “ one time, one meeting ”; an encounter that only happens once in a lifetime, reminding to treasure every moment, for it will never occur.
The first series of MORII photozine consist of a school excursion that took place in Tokyo, just right before Covid-19 pandemic exploded. The city of Tokyo is known for its extensive population density as well as its diverse built environment. It integrates local culture and traditions into their urban lifestyle. This blend allows the creation of a whole novelty in urban sensation. What is even more interesting, different parts of the city offer diverse sensation of urbanism, whether it is as big as a district or as small as an alleyway, which gives a whole distinct experience to new incomers.

Hello there! I hope you enjoyed flipping through these pages as much as I did. I am truly grateful and blessed to be able to visit Tokyo just right before the pandemic escalated because without this opportunity, this zine would not be out of its way. I am also thankful to the school for organizing this trip and made it happen eventhough it was such a big risk to take, nevertheless we still proceed through it safely. Thank you to those have read this zine all the way to the end and I hope to see you again in th second series! Cheers!

We live our lives in moments. Those rare experiences we stop to notice, and carry with us, in the hopes of stringing them together, trying to tell a story. But even in the moment, you can feel it start to fade. So you try to capture it, and convert it into something that will last longer than just a flash. And over time a photo feels more real than it’s subject. It lets you build a version of the world that you can take with you. A world flattened, and simple A world that doesn’t change That fits in the frame. A little brighter and more colorful. With everything under control. We try to capture moments as if we’re afraid they’ll escape, but they’ll get away eventually. Take one last look. One more shot. So years from now you can flip back through, and try to relive it all over again. But maybe even then, you’ll be thinking to yourself, “Ah well. About
MORII Inspired from Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, in short, morii means the desire to capture an ephemeral moment. There are times when we all felt we have to capture these moments before they slip through our fingers and get lost in our masked memories. Of course these moments does not necessarily revolved around travelling but all the meaningful ones too. Morii zine is created as a physical memoir for those who want to relive and relish those recollections sometime later in the near future or maybe long after. Hoping that by flipping through these pages, some of their forgotten memories could be brought back to light.
