We began the month with our T-Shirt contest which will be ending soon. Given this, we also elected our new Spirit Team! On June 19 we had our bake sale distribution. This will continue until June 26. With that, OTC is also on that date. Towards the middle, we had our Pride Service Month begin. This focuses on infographics and craft making. Lastly, we will be having our last spirit week June 21-25.

LEI-MAKING FOR SENIORS

Yunju Park Historian |Larchmont As the school year comes to an end, seniors are graduating to enter the next chapter of their lives. To celebrate a memorable moment, the Key Club members at Larchmont had come together to create leis to show our congratulations. When we had first met at the school campus to prepare for the event, everyone had paid and received their Key Club t- shirts. We took a group photo with everyone wearing their shirts and posted in on our Instagram account. For crafting, we were split into several tables. Leaders who had arrived earlier had taught the others how to create the leis.

Free Rice Service Hours

Leaders who had arrived earlier had taught the others how to create the leis. While it was pleasant crafting once we all got the hang of it, it was nice to meet other people after a long isolation as well. All tables were able to have an entertaining conversation filled with joy and laughter. In my table particularly, for some people, it was their first year at Larchmont, so we got to know each other better, asking each other what we like and dislike. Halfway through our lei making, the Key Club had received pizza, chips, and soda to eat. It was a form of break time for us. After we ate, we continued making the leis until it was time for us to go home.

In between the times we were in sitting on the tables, members and leaders had come around taking pictures of each group. Some of us were being funny, asking to take pictures of us crafting and looking into the camera. In the end, we had a huge stack of leis to give to our graduating seniors. This event was heavily supported by the parents who first taught the leaders and helped glue the leis into a necklace. Overall, the event was fun! We were able to establish new friendships and give back to our school community.

Esteffany Paredes Historian | South Gate From June 2nd to June 16th, South Gate Key clubbers are able to earn service hours by using free rice. Free rice is a website that allows players to donate rice to families in need by playing a multiple-choice quiz game. Every question that key clubbers answer correctly, they earn ten grains of rice. These grains of rice are donated via the United Nations World Food Program. The maximum number of service hours that could be given is up to 5 hours if you obtain more than 1,000 grains of rice. It is an easy way to not only receive service hours but also be able to help families in need. It is a nice feeling knowing you can help make a difference by even doing small quizzes.

Division Newsletter Lizette Negrete Historian | Huntington Park My club and I decided to collaborate with one of our school clubs called “Spartan Buddies”; essentially group members interact, play games, and talk with other teachers and classmates for fun. They will be hosting a fundraiser event that will be held at Pacific Blvd on June 9th. Our club decided to promote this event so both Spartan Buddies and the “Inclusion Revolution” receive support. The title of this event is called “Twinkle Brown Sugar” and we posted this information on our key club instagram. This was a way to spread the word of this important event and for our key club to participate in!
