LTG LETTER What's Up Hedgehogs We’re officially more than a month into summer break! Thank you to everyone who has been participating in our Division events and for taking part in our Jun-ly service week. We’ll have more service opportunities in the future, so make sure to stick around for that. Although it’s tempting to spend this time out with friends and go places together, please remember to continue practicing social distancing and wearing your masks to help stop the spread of COVID-19. I’m so glad that I got to see so many new faces at our last DCM and at Division 13’s Officer Training Conference. As we continue on with the term, make sure to stay active with our Division’s updates for more online service, socials, fundraising opportunities (there’s a fun one coming soon :>), and more! We have a lot planned for you all that you don’t want to miss. I hope that you’re all continuing to stay safe and hydrated, enjoying your summer, and keeping active with our 13 West family! Enjoy the newsletter~ Rolling to Service,

Javier Nunez Division 13 West 2020-2021 Lt. Governor

Division Updates We kicked off this month with the rest of our Jun-Ly Service Week from July 1st to July 4th. Members participated in various service projects to earn some service hours right at home. We ended our service week with a Zoom call where members created dog toys together. We would like to thank members for participating in our Jun-Ly Service Week. On July 25th we will have our July DCM. We will talk more about MRP and different requirements for recognition and also have some fun with a skribbl.io tournament. Please join us by signing up with the link.

DOG TOY MAKING

Simon Zhong Historian | Downtown Magnet Recently we had spirit week and on July 3rd we had a dog toy making zoom call. Originally it was also supposed to have a crane making portion in the call but nobody was able to host it sadly. But throughout the call, there were about 5 people in the call where we used old shirts and branded them into dog toys.

JUN-LY SERVICE WEEK

8| EVENT RECAP

Allison Ojeda Historian | Lincoln High School Through the end of June and the beginning of July, Key Club had a Jun-ly Service Week. Each day had a theme or task that had to be done in order to get service hours. The first day was on June 30th. The name of this day was Infographics Tuesday. The task given was to create your own infographic for one of Key Clubs’ preferred charities. The next day on July 1st was Free Rice Wednesday. To get your service hours, you had to answer trivia questions on the FreeRice app to help earn food for the World Food Programme. The following day was called Chalk Walk Thursday. The task was to create a chalk walk in your neighborhood that would be able to bring joy to people who would walk by. Word Of Thanks Friday followed next. The task for this day was to write a letter for the people working on the frontlines using a link given. The last day was Dog Toy/Paper Crane Saturday. Key Club held a zoom meeting where you would either make dog toys out of old clothes or paper cranes. Each of these days allowed for you to gain service hours while still at home.

HARRY POTTER OTC Maya Henry Historian | Girl Academic Leadership Academy On June 27th, 2020, every GALA officer represented Division 13 West at the 2020 Officer Training Conference, where we learned everything about Key Club, from official fonts to charitable goals. Each officer attended a different meeting each session in order to maximize the knowledge gained, and immediately after the meeting ended, we utilized Facebook and Instagram groups to discuss and pass on the information. Some favorites of the sessions we attended included the Safekey 101 meeting and the Stress Management and Mental Health talk, as both provided “many informative and clear graphics we can refer back to at a later date,” one officer remarked. Speaking of graphics, the slides featured in the visual above were used in the Etiquette and Professionalism session, which were incredibly useful, as it gave proactive ways to improve public speaking and communication skills. Overall, this year’s OTC was an interactive, fun, and most importantly, informative meeting that not only boosted our hedgehog pride but made the GALA team even more anxious to start the year! And, of course, it didn’t hurt that everybody had an excuse to dress up in Harry Potter gear to boot!
