Message from the

NEWS EDITOR Hello Hedgehogs We have finally entered the first month of school!! YAY!! I'm excited about this new school year even though this is not what we were expecting. It will take some time to get used to but I know that we will get through this. We should continue to be optimistic about the future. Key Club will continue to be active even though we are not physically not at school. I would like to thank everyone who has continued to participate in our events this past summer. You guys are AWESOME! Please anticipate for many events coming in the near future. I hope everyone continues to stay safe and healthy during this upcoming school year. I believe in you!!

LTG LETTER

What's Up Hedgehogs

With school starting up again, things have gotten pretty busy already. Getting back into the rhythm of doing actual school can be difficult. Thankfully, your Division Leadership Team is working on new ways to promote amazing opportunities and offer you all the chance to unwind with other hedgehogs. To all of the officers that have been working their hardest to keep their clubs active during this past summer break, thank you! Your hard work and dedication knows no bounds and I couldn’t have been proud at the progress some of you all have made. Remember that right now, recruitment is our major focus above all else. BEE prepared for virtual club fairs and FINALLY having your first meetings of the school year. We have a brand new generation of potential members to tap into and I know from experience just how much Key Club can change some of them. So keep on evolving as the term continues on. I can’t wait to hear from all of you soon! Before I go, I hope that you all are continuing to stay safe during these times. Remember that your actions affect not only yourself, so please continue wearing your mask and social distancing. I am still waiting for the day that I can happily announce our first in-person event of the term and so should all of you! I can’t wait to see what this school year has in store for us. If you ever feel stressed or overwhelmed, please remember that I am only one text, one email, and one phone call away. Thank you and I hope you enjoy this month’s Rolling to Service, newsletter!

DIVISION UPDATES

We are starting this month with our Kiwanis Zoom Meeting on Monday, August 10th. Clubs can come and give some updates to the Kiwanis adults about what their clubs are planning for the future. Clubs can also introduce them self to our Kiwanis Advisors and learn more about volunteering opportunities. On the 15th of August, Circle K will hold an Intro to College Webinar. Circle K is giving Key Clubbers the opportunity to learn more about College and answer questions that you may have for the application process. This webinar is open to EVERYONE, not just Key clubbers. Near the end of the month, we will hold our August DCM Game Night. Our monthly DCM allows our Clubs to give updates on events and plans for the future. We will also hold a game night where we will be playing multiple games during the meeting.

EVENT RECAP JULY DCM

Allison Ojeda Historian | Lincoln High School During the month of July, Key Club held it’s monthly DCM. During the event, we talked about the MRP, member recognition program, and the different levels of recognition a member can receive from their participation in

Key Club. Any member can be recognized by the MRP. The DCM allowed for many members to widen their understanding of the MRP and the different organizations that Key Club holds fundraisers for. During the DCM, the Color-A-Smile Service project was held. To participate, all you had to do was print out one of the coloring pages given and color it. You then took a picture of the page and sent it in.

KIWANIS ZOOM CALL

Maya Henry Historian | Girls Academic Leadership Academy On July 13th, 2020, from 7:30 PM onward, the Kiwanis advisory board hosted a Zoom call in which attending individuals were kept up to date on new items and upcoming events. 22 members, officers, advisors, and board members were in digital attendance, including the majority of the GALA Key Club officers(two couldn’t make it due to prior commitments that couldn’t be rescheduled). GALA received a super warm welcome from everyone there and finalized and secured registration details. Afterward, GALA officers met digitally and chatted via Instagram group chat and private Discord channel, and it was decided that the events we as a club are looking forward to most are the movie night, card creating, and food drive. The meeting also inspired each officer to work harder to recruit members so more students at GALA can be part of and experience these amazing events and give back to the community. Overall, the meeting was definitely worth its time, as all confusion surrounding upcoming events was cleared up, and it was wonderful as a new club to meet and get to know the Kiwanis board members, other club officers, and other school advisors. We will be sure to join and advertise attendance at similar meetings in the future!
