Message from the

NEWS EDITOR Hello Hedgehogs Can you believe we are already wrapping up this year? It felt like it just started yesterday! This year presented us with many difficult challenges and tasks that we had to overcome. But we made it through to the end of the year. The winter season is finally kicking in am I right? The weather is getting colder and colder so remember to stay warm. A pro tip is to buy Hand Warmers, they are the best for the cold weather. Even though it doesn’t snow in California I really wished it did. But it’s snow problem. To all my fellow Seniors who are applying to college, I wish you all the best of luck. We can all get through this together. Please do not procrastinate until the very last minute to finish them. I beg of you, please don’t wait! Even though I’m sad we weren’t able to hold Fally Rally this semester, there is always a chance for next semester. My Fally Rally depression hasn’t worn off yet! Times are still hard but we can get through this era to a new one. Take care!

Rolling to Service,

Mikaela Dinh Division 13 West News Editor

LTG LETTER What's Up Hedgehogs

LtG Javier here to say that I cannot be more happy with our progress as a Division this past month. We doubled our service hours and increased our membership dramatically. We’re only continuing to go up and continuing to crush our old records in our division, so I am incredibly grateful to have a division that keeps on fighting despite our current situation. To all of my seniors reading this, good luck on what’s the final stretch of college app season for many of us. Get those final revisions on your CSU and UC apps if you haven’t. Regardless of your path, know that I am proud of each and every one of you for making it through the roughest part of this year. With that being said, I hope you all enjoy this month’s newsletter! Continue to invite friends and new members to events. We’re always looking to expand our family from any school in our division. Thank you for reading through my message and I hope to see you all soon! Until next time. Rolling to Service,

Javier Nunez Division 13 West 2020-2021 Lt. Governor

EVENT

RECAP Mikaela Dinh President | Lincoln High School On October 27, we had a joint service project with Crystal KIWIN's where we created flashcards near the end of our joint Kiwanis One Day. Members were able to create flashcards that help elementary school students study for Math or English. We spent about an hour chilling to good music and making cards. We were also allowed to decorate the cards with a "spooky" theme. It was fun to see everyone recommending songs and seeing people enjoying other’s taste in songs. It was bittersweet when the time was running out. The event ended and some members continue to finish their flashcards afterward.

13 NORTHWEST DLT FUNDRAISER

Simon Zhong Historian | Downtown Magnets High I’m actually pretty hyped about this upcoming event that D13W and D13N have been planning together that’s going to be happening soon. Though I can’t really say very much about this upcoming DCM, there is a D13 North bingo fundraiser happening from November 16- 20 that I want a lot of people to take part off. Especially taking part in the DCM happening because we spent a lot of time on the activities!

Maya Henry Historian | GALA On November 4th, the Girls Academic Leadership Academy’s Key Club threw themselves into the annual Key Club Week, starting with Dare to Care Day. On the 4th, Key Club officers emphasized the importance of being kind and welcoming to all, and with the election still on everyone’s mind, stressing love and peace was especially helpful. GALA Key Club is continually trying to encourage all our members to rack in service hours, so the officers chose to offer up to three hours of service for members to play either Free Rice or use Charity Miles. Many members took full advantage of the day to earn hours and had tons of fun while they were at it. Dare to Care Day was a great start to GALA’s celebration of Key Club Week, and the days will only get better.
