Message from the

NEWS EDITOR Hello Hedgehogs

As 2020 is coming to a close, we see a brand new year approaching with new hopes and dreams. I have to admit that 2020 was not an easy year. It was really difficult to start school online and not have the comfort of friends around as well. Well now, we can look past this and focus on the upcoming year. Make sure to always focus on your mental and physical health. Eat property and don’t skip meals. Also if you feel alone and isolated, please reach out to a friend to talk about how you feel. It’s hard to accomplish your goals when you are mentally or physically unwell. So everyone, please stay healthy! The new year also brings in election season! If you are interested in an officer position then go for it. You never know until you try. Even though some positions seem hard and challenging, take it step by step and you can make it! It’s a start of a new beginning and I hope many new leaders will be born. Stay safe everyone! See you next month Rolling to Service,

Mikaela Dinh Division 13 West News Editor

LTG LETTER

What's Up Hedgehogs

We did it! Congratulations to everyone who completed their first semester and made it through their finals. It was a long and difficult road for us to follow through this year, but I can confidently say that I am proud of each and every one of you for finishing strong! Make sure to use these next few weeks of break to recharge and get back into hobbies that help you destress. Remember to prioritize your mental health as we go into the new near and make the most out this time! A new year also means it’s time for Election Season! Anyone who is an officer hopeful for this year should be excited, but if you’re still part of that group that is on the fence about running, then this part of the message is for you. Remember to make the most out of the Election Webinar led by our PIE Chair Ilene. Learning what it takes and grappling the opportunity to run as a potential officer for your club’s next board is an amazing opportunity that you can’t pass up! Things may be a bit different this year, but continue to be hopeful for the next term and all the new memories that you can make then. Remember to reach out to a current officer or myself if you have any questions about running. I can’t wait to hear about all the new rising officers we’ll be having for the next term! To any new members joining in, continue bringing in your friends! Key Club goes on year round and it’s NEVER too late to join. We still have tons of events and opportunities to meet new people left in this term, and I would love to see new faces. Thank you for deciding to start your Key Club journey with us and I hope you enjoy your stay <3 Lastly, I want to thank everyone for sticking around and doing the most so that we can make progress on our Division goals. We still have a strong four months left to make a splash in our Division’s history, so let’s finish strong! I can’t wait to see the new heights we’ll have reached by then thanks to you all! Thank you for reading through my message and I hope that you enjoy this month’s issue of the newsletter! Until next time~ Rolling to Service,

Javier Nunez Division 13 West 2020-2021 Lt. Governor

HOLIDAY

On December 13, 2020, WE had our actual first in-person event! It was a holiday donation drive near grand park! Though it was a little mess on what part of grand park the drive was at, it pulled through pretty well than expected considering the pandemic. I was happy to see people again from our division in person but of course with social distancing.

DONATION DRIVE

THANKFUL FOR YOU

Maya Henry Historian | GALA

CARDS

Over GALA’s Fall Break, many GALA Key Club officers and members took part in Division 13 West’s service event, writing cards and emails of appreciation to fellow Key Clubbers. This was the perfect opportunity to enrich a restful week, show appreciation for the friends we love and the officers we respect, while also earning service hours as we get closer to the MRF deadline. Multiple GALA Key Club members have reported in the past week getting an email from a friend or someone they don’t know too well that “warmed [their] heart and made [their] day.” The event was a total success, and it was perfect timing for the holiday season.

CRANE MAKING

Mikaela Dinh President | Lincoln High School On December 10th, Lincoln Key Club held our last general meeting of the semester and a Crane Making Service Project. We made cranes while on Zoom to give to people in hospitals and to family members or friends. On each crane, we wrote a message which would help someone that is struggling in these current times. Members were rewarded service hours for the amount of time spent making cranes. I was happy to see even in this current situation, we are still able to bring positivity and service in our community and at home.

THE HUNGER

SITE GRAPHICS Katie Perez Historian | King Drew The Hunger site is a service event where you visit a website that was provided by our president. A list of different sicknesses are provided for you to choose from. The purpose is to create a graphic to educate people about the sickness you choose. Once

you had completed your graphics you sent them to your club president as proof towards your hours.

CSU LONG BEACH

KEY TO

COLLEGE Javier Nunez | LtG

On December 6th, Cal State Long Beach Circle K hosted their Key to College event for high schoolers from Region 8 and Division 30 South. With the brunt of college applications for seniors being done just a few days prior, the presenters at this event focused more on college life and transitioning once seniors are done with high school. My personal favorite workshop of the day was the one on mental health resources available at CSULB and all of the advice about reaching out + finding resources that the panelists had to offer. Additionally, being the only Key Clubber at the humanities major session gave me a lot of opportunities to not only learn about Long Beach humanities personally, but also bond with some of the Circle K members (who were amazingly nice by the way). The final panelist session with all of the hosting Circle K members was also insightful in teaching us about life in college beyond the classroom. All of the advice about finding clubs and interests outside of your major to make the most of your college experience was definitely something high schoolers in quarantine needed to hear. Overall, this event was a major success and having the opportunity to be invited + attend this 3 hour long journey was much appreciated. Thank you to the members of CSULB Circle K who helped guide members that day and we can’t wait to see how we can apply these skills

CANDIDATE TRAINING

CONFERENCE

Mikaela Dinh President | Lincoln High School On December 12th, Region 3 and 8 held the Candidate training Conference. CTC is where members who are interested in becoming our next LtG, get a taste of what it takes to run a Division. Members participated in many workshops that help explain the roles of an LtG. Also, after each presentation, we would be split into different rooms to talk to current LtGs about their journey as LtG It was interesting to hear many LtGs perspectives on how they felt and why they wanted to be an LtG.
