Message from the

NEWS EDITOR Hello Hedgehogs

My name is Mikaela Dinh and I am happy to serve Division 13 West as your Division News Editor for the 2020-2021 term. Finally after all the testing and exams we have arrived in summer. Summer is such a great time to start new hobbies, catch up on some shows you haven’t finished, and sleep until noon. I am looking forward to a calm and chill summer. Even though we might not be able to see everyone in the summer, I know it will still be fun and an amazing summer. But for now we can only dream of the day we can have Division events together in person. I hope everyone is doing well and safe. I will continue to pump the same quality of work throughout the term and I hope you continue to check all of our events and plans for the future. Rolling to Service,

Mikaela Dinh Division 13 West News Editor

LTG LETTER

What's Up Hedgehogs?

We’re all officially done with another year of school! To the class of 2020, congratulations on finishing your high school journey! You have all made such an impact on our division and in the lives of the people you talked to at each and every event. Though the way it ended was incredibly bittersweet, know that your contributions to the world did not go to waste and that you’re all off to be doing bigger + better things. Despite the difficulties that came out of the COVID-19 pandemic and school closures, I am proud of everyone for getting through the rest of the year and still finding ways to give back to the communities you serve. Whether you’re a recent graduate or still have a couple years left in Key Club, never forget your passion to serve wherever you are! Summer may not be what any of us expected it to be back in March, but Division 13 West is set on making the most out of it and having a great time even in the quarantine summer heat™. Our annual Officer Training Conference with Division 13 North and South is coming up next Saturday. Learn more about the positions you serve, how you can change your club for the better, and shoot your friendship shot with a hedgehog, ninja, or monkey! Spirit and Judging Team applications are still out until Wednesday, so I encourage you all to take advantage of this amazing opportunity to become more involved in the Division this term. It may not look like much now, but we’re going to be ROLLING into new adventures together before you know it. Continue to practice social distancing, wearing face masks in public, and wash your hands! It takes the effort of the entire community to curb this pandemic and change starts with YOU. Finally, Division 13 West would like everyone to know that black lives matter and that we stand against racial injustices. To those out there listening to the voices of the unheard and personally advocating, thank you! Continue to fight for what you believe in and serve your communities in the best way possible. With all that being said, I hope that we can all eventually come together for an in-person DCM, event, or service project to catch up and be around people we care about. Stay safe out there and I hope you enjoy this month’s issue of the newsletter. I miss you all! Rolling to Service,

Javier Nunez 4

Division 13 West 2020-2021 Lt. Governor

EA MESSAGES

WHAT’S SPIKIN HEDGEHOGS?! I wanted to share a little science lesson on melanin. According to @instituteofhumananatomy, “The evolution of the human body tell the amazing story about how human beings came to be in different regions on planet earth. Some needed more or less protection from UV light (the sun), and so the body responded accordingly with genetic variations in melanin production.” Melanin had the sole purpose of protecting us from the sun and should never be a reason for injustice. Keep the distance, stay safe, and keep on ROLLIN.

Hello Hedgehogs!! I hope you all are doing well and I hope you enjoyed recent events that we had. As we are now beginning the new term I am excited and I hope the rest of you feel the same way. I hope we all continue to stay active and continue providing our service although we’re still stuck at home. I know staying at home sucks but let’s make the best of it and hope this quarantine is over soon. Stay safe and be careful <3!!
